In our Season 13 finale, we take a look back at our year at the movies in 2024. We hand out awards in a variety of categories both celebrated and maligned. Bill and Ted haven’t yet fulfilled the prophecy of creating the perfect song that will unite the world and now, they learn, that the song will also restore peace to space and reality as well. So they travel into various times in the future to steal the song from themselves. Meanwhile, their daughters are also time-travelling to put together the greatest band of all time!

After George Almore lost his wife in a car accident, he took advantage of Archive’s service in an attempt to create an android and transfer her into it. But the key is currently around the neck of the teenager Becky in her private clubhouse. Now, it’s a showdown between the worst Neo-Nazi criminals and the most psycho teenager ever. Who will win? And what does it take to make the hero the villain?

India’s top drug lord is behind bars leaving his family open and vulnerable. His son is kidnapped by the king drug lord from Bangladesh. With his financial assets frozen by the Indian government, Ovi Sr. turns to a group of mercenaries to get his son back. Chris Hemsworth leads the group but soon finds that the mission has more to it than expected.

Well this week we’re bringing you three for the price of one. First, Al Capone is retired and living in a mansion in Florida. But there’s a smaller matter of $10,000,000 hidden on the property. Then, we go to Los Angeles where a Valley girl meets a boy from the wrong side of the tracks. Finally, we found Simon Pegg trapped in an underground bunker and it’s up to a young District Attorney to find out why.

This week, we’ve managed to work in a double feature. First, the gritty story of a man who had to become a criminal in prison to save his family on the outside. Second, the reboot/sequel of the Scooby Doo franchise updated for the 2020 family audience. Two more different movies there could never be.

Another two-for-one from quarantined isolation. This time, we’re depressing ourselves with two isolation themed horror films, Vivarium and The Platform. First, a young couple looking for a house gets tricked into a maze of a suburban neighbourhood that they cannot leave. Then, go into The Hole and scavenge as much food as you can from the lowering platform each day. One’s worth it and one isn’t.

It's been 300 years since the passing of Caesar and the world is run by Apes. But the peaceful Eagle training tribe is attacked and enslaved by Proximus Caesar, an evil ape hell-bent on ruling over all apes and obtaining the secrets of man.

Deep at the bottom of the Mariana Trench, a drilling facility experiences a major malfunction. The entire facility collapses and all but six lucky employees survive. Now they have to get to the escape pods before being killed by the pressures of the deep, weird undiscovered sea creatures, and an H.P. Lovecraft God. Yep. That’s what actually happened!

With the worldwide pandemic is full effect, we’re taking a look at movies released on streaming services. This time around, we take a look at two Netflix originals. First, Ryan Ryenolds stars in an action-packed adventure where he forms a team of undercover badasses to take out an evil dictator in 6 Underground. Then we review Mark Wahlberg’s latest cop drama/mystery story in Spenser Confidential.

In a world where the political landscape is more toxic than it’s ever been, comes a movie that splits the rights and lefts both literally and violently. A group of wealthy Liberal elites kidnap and hunt down a group of ultra-right wing conservatives on a large compound. Dubbed Manor Gate, it’s up to one to turn the hunted into the hunter.

Cecilia (Cee) has left her abusive boyfriend, Adrian, and trying to get into a normal life. Finally, news comes that Adrian has committed suicide. No longer afraid to face the world, Cee starts to see and hear things leading her to believe that her ex isn’t really dead but somehow invisible. Is she right or is she slowly losing her sanity?

Well, after the Internet bitched and complained, Sonic finally has been released. Was it worth it? We have two very special guests to help us decided. Derek sits down with comedians Dylan Rhymer and Mike Storck to review this controversial movie. Movies based on video games are sometimes rough.

It’s the spin-off from DC’s much maligned Suicide Squad but starring Suicide Squad’s favourite character, Harley Quinn. Two years ago, horror movie box office records were broken when It Chapter One become the highest grossing rated R horror movie ever. Now, the story finishes as the Losers Club are grown up and must return to Derry to force Pennywise into a final showdown.

It’s the day you’ve been waiting for your entire life. Your wedding day. Everything has been perfectly planned, you’re getting hitched to the man of your dreams, and best of all, he’s rich. But Grace finds out there’s a catch. You must play a game on the night of your wedding and when she draws “Hide & Seek”, the game turns deadly.

The best parts of the Fast & Furious universe are teaming up in a brand new spin off movie. Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw are tasked to save Shaw’s sister after she injects herself with a super-virus owned by Brixton. Sounds easy but Brixton is a cyber-enhanced super villain hell bent on eliminating the weaker of the world’s population to make the human race as strong as it can be.

Disney’s latest remake of their animation classic has hit the big screens and it’s not been very loved by critics. Well, we took a look this weekend and we may know why the critics have been so hard on this one. Nostalgia? Disney hate? Random or valid reasons? We go over it all plus we also talk about the movie pre-roll annoyances and our weird movie-going experiences this weekend. It’s a packed episode so download and enjoy!

It’s been a while after the events of Avengers: Endgame. The “blip” has had its effect on the world and Peter Parker just wants to get away. Sorry Jack, Chucky’s back. The killer doll made famous in 1988 is reborn in 2019, updated for the modern audience. Kaslan, the Goolge-like company, makes all manner of products and the newest one is a doll that can control all of the Kaslan products in your home through voice controls. But one of the dolls has a dark secret and learns differently than all of the others. This difference leads to deadly results.

Another sequel/reboot coming out in 2019. This time, Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson take over for Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones and there’s a mole inside of Men in Black. There is also the most dangerous weapon in the universe floating around on Earth. Agents H and M must find the weapon, defeat the mysterious new aliens coming after it, and flush out the mole before the world is destroyed.

The final X-Men movie (for now) has been out for a couple of weeks now and we’re still playing catch-up. We checked out the somewhat maligned Dark Phoenix. It’s the re-telling of the famous Dark Phoenix comic book storyline with the new X-Men cast. Jean Gray has been hit by a space force that makes her powers stronger and uncontrollable and aliens are after her to steal her powers away. Yep, aliens.

A late night talk show host wants to beat Johnny Carson in the ratings and to do that he'll risk the lives on everyone in the studio by communing with the Devil.

We also review X-Men '97, Fallout, The American Society for Magical Negroes and Shoresy!

Five years ago, Godzilla re-introduced himself to the world defeating two Mutos and saving the Earth. Now, more than 17 other Titan monsters have been discovered and thanks to the bumbling humans, King Gidorrah has been released and taken over the Titans causing destruction worldwide. We need to save Godzilla and help him fight off the Titans so that the human race doesn’t go extinct!

This week, we’re jumping into the summer movie releases beginning with the live-action adaptation of Aladdin and the evil Superboy interpretation in Brightburn. First, Mark reviews the Disney remake Aladdin starring Will Smith as the Genie. Then Derek joins in for a look at the story of an alien child who uses his powers for evil means in Brightburn.

John Wick is on the run as he’s now ex-communicato from the High Table. He only has one chance . . . to reach the one man who is above the Table and can grant him a chance to redeem himself. But along the way, he has a wall of enemies, frenemies, and greedy contract killers all waiting to claim their bounty.

There’s a strange grave that holds the power to bring the dead back to life. But is it really a good idea? We find out!

Jordan Peele’s long anticipated follow up to Get Out has finally arrived. It’s a suspense-filled, horror about a family being stalked by another family that looks like exactly like them.

Marvel’s latest and last offering before Avengers: Endgame introduces the most powerful hero in the MCU to date. Carol Danvers must reconnect to her human roots in order to tap into her ultimate powers. Also Agent Nick Joe Fury makes a furry friend.

Hiccup and Toothless are back for their third and final adventure. This time, an evil dragon poacher is out to hunt the final Night Fury. So our heroes are are looking for a new home for the dragons they’ve already rescued.

Kong is lonely but discovers he's not the only Kong in the Hollow Earth. Meanwhile, Godzilla is on Muto duty on the surface. And because they can't help it, the humans are finding everything that doesn't concern them and poking their asses into it!

College student Tree is back in the time loop and this time, she knows why. A science experiment gone wrong has caused her to repeat the same day over and over again and she must find out who the new killer is before she dies permanently.

With his friends captured, Emmett Brickowski is on a mission to rescue them and stop Momaggedon. We here at Film Studies have been big fans of the Lego movies that have come out as of late but we’ve also seen what can happen with sequels to successful movies.

Glass is the long-awaited trilogy finale from M. Night Shyamalan. David Dunn, The Horde/Kevin Wendell Crumb, and “Mr. Glass” Elijah Price have been placed under the care of Dr. Ellie Staple who believes they are under the delusion that they are super-humans. But there may be more going on.
