6 quick questions with Madison Stefanis Founder of 35mm co (Part 2) 07 Dec 202300:07:15

Hello everyone and welcome back to the show! It’s Doone here - your host and hype girl. It’s been such joy seeing so many of you joining us in the Facebook group and posting your questions!

Joining us today on the show is Madi Stefanis - the founder of 35mm co. And I love this episode so much! Made started her business after spotting a gap in the market for vintage cameras, she started flipping them online and after selling hundreds of thousands of dollars worth - but after experiencing so much demand and never being able to keep up with the pace, realised she had an opportunity to create her own product that she could scale. It’s a great lesson in finding market fit before going all in.

And while I’ve got you here - a big huge full of love thank you to everyone sharing their Spotify Wrapped with us. I can’t even begin to tell you how grateful I am to see thousands of people with Female Startup Club in the their top 5 or their number 1 listened to podcast for this year. Creating a new class of nutrients: bioactive human proteins for people of all ages - with Laura Katz, Founder of Helaina20 Nov 202300:52:19

This is Laura Katz for Female Startup Club

Hello everyone and welcome back to the show! It’s Doone here - your host and hype girl.

On today’s episode we’re chatting with Laura Katz. Laura is the founder of a company called Helaina. Helaina invented a biomanufacturing platform to recreate the bioactive proteins in human milk and throughout the human body for functional food and supplements. They "teach" yeast to replicate these human proteins using precision fermentation. Isn’t that amazing? God I love modern science and technology! Laura has always been obsessed with food and her career followed that true love and passion into food science. In this episode we talk through Laura’s big lightbulb moment, how she approached raising capital with no network and no experience in her early 20s and how you get a big idea like this through to commercialisation. Because it’s definitely not straightforward. This episode blew my mind and I’d love to know what you think about it so join me in the Facebook group to chat more!

6 quick questions with Pascale Helyar-Moray, Founder of Super Rewards (Part 2) 16 Nov 202300:07:29

This is Pascale Helyar-Moray for Female Startup Club

Hello everyone and welcome back to the show! It’s Doone here - your host and hype girl.

Today on the show we’re chatting with Pascale from Grow My Money (previously known as Super Rewards). Did you know that in Australia 1 in 3 single women retire in poverty, and 1 in 6 women overall retire into poverty. That’s a very scary and very real stat. Now there’s multiple factors that play into that statistic but one of them has to do with our superannuation. If you’re listening in from outside of Australia - superannuation is kind of like a 401k in America, or your state pension in the UK. Over the course of your career, your employee puts money into something you can’t touch until you retire - and that money significantly grows over the course of 30+ years so that when you retire, you have a chunk of cash to live off. Simply put. And men retire with almost double the superannuation kitty than women do. And with that in mind Pascale wanted to do something about it. This is a real eye opener and I would love to know what you think about it - come and chat with us in the Facebook group.

6 quick questions with Lezlie Karls, Founder of Mid-Day Squares (Part 2) 07 Nov 202300:11:24

This is Lezlie Karls for Female Startup Club. Hello everyone and welcome back to the show!

It’s Doone here - your host and hype girl. And before we jump in today marks something really bloody exciting for Female Startup Club! As of this week we have joined the Acast podcast network and that means lots of exciting things! Firstly we’re going to start introducing some different kinds of episodes, like strategy breakdowns with industry experts, and how-to’s for earlystage founders and future founders.

It also means you’re going to start hearing a new voice on the show - you’re going to meet my wingwoman and one of the best humans I know, Josephine. If you’ve ever messaged us on Instagram or you’re part of Majic you’ll know just how wonderful Josephine is and she’s gonna be joining me in a new series where we talk through insights, questions and what’s happening in the world of business.

Now something I’m really excited about is the comeback of our Facebook group. It’s linked in our show notes and I want you to jump in there and join us asap! Every Monday I’ll be sharing who I’m interviewing for that week and this is where you can ask specific questions you want me to answered on the show. You can also drop your own questions and challenges and we’ll be shouting those out too. It’s a great chance to get your brand featured on the podcast.

Phew. Ok! That’s all my exciting news for today. Let’s get into the good stuff. Today we’re chatting with Lezlie Karls from Midday Squares. We actually recorded an episode with Lezlie way back in December of 2021 and sooo much has changed in that time. She’s gone through probably the worst time in her business since then and has just come out the other side so there’s plenty of great insights and learnings to take away here. I hope you love this episode just as much as I do - and remember if you have some specific questions you want to ask on our upcoming episodes, come join us in the Facebook group.

Let’s get into it, this is Lezlie Karls for Female Startup Club.

Dealing with Crazy Ups & Downs in Business with Lezlie Karls, Founder of Mid-Day Squares (part 1) 06 Nov 202300:49:46

6 quick questions with Breanna Lane, Co-Founder of Glossyboys (Part 2)25 Oct 202300:09:49

Hiiii and welcome back to the show! It’s Doone here - your host and hype girl. If you’re new around here, hi - welcome! I’m so happy you found us. Every week we’re having conversations with amazing female founders, entrepreneurs and women in business to understand their blueprint when it comes to money, marketing and mistakes. The good stuff. Like Breanna Lane. She’s the co-founder of a company called Glossyboys which she’s bringing to life alongside her 13 year old teenage son, Lucas. I first came across Glossy Boys a couple weeks ago when they were pitching on Shark Tank Australia and was just so moved by their story and what they’re creating in the world. Breanna’s is out there doing this really special thing with her son and having a lot of fun along the way. And I just love how she’s approaching raising her kids - outside the box - while having her full time career while also building this business. It’s really cool.

And as always, if you love this episode - please take a tiny action for me in return. We’ve dubbed this the girl code. When you send an episode to a friend or post a screenshot on IG stories, that stuff actually makes a really big difference to me and what we’re doing and I’m always grateful to everyone who does this already.

This is Eshita Kabra for Female Startup Club

Hello and welcome back to the show. It’s Doone here - your host and hype girl. It is a beautiful day here in Sydney, Australia and I’m excited to be bringing this episode to your ears. Eshita Kabra is the founder of a company called By Rotation. It’s essentially app where you can rent stunning clothes, shoes and bags - but the twist being that it’s all community driven. So think Instagram, but where you can rent the clothes straight from your favourite friends, influencers and stylish women. Eshita created this business out of a view to make a positive impact in the world and change the way we consume fast fashion by creating a more sustainable economy around what we wear and buy.

I got to know Eshita’s business when I was living in London and have the sweetest story that I’m gonna share in the episode which I just love so much and it speaks to the power of how she’s managed to build a really strong sense of community inside this app.

Quick reminder about our November meetup which is gonna be in Australia this time.

Please do slide into our DMs and let us know if you vote for Sydney or Melbourne.

And obvs shout about the episode or Female Startup Club in general if you learn something or love something or leave this with a smile on your face.

6 quick questions with Rachael Wilde (Tyers), Founder of TBH Skincare (Part 2)10 Oct 202300:11:43

Hi and welcome back to the show! It’s Doone here your host and hype girl. If you’re new here - we love to understand the insights and playbook behind the brands we love and buy - and if you’re an OG listener. Well, LOVE you. You know what this is all about. Today’s episode is a follow up to our original episode with Rachael from 2021. Which I’m going to link in the show notes incase you wanna circle back for all the early stage story stuff and her blueprint for getting this brand off the ground. I love doing episodes like this because so much has happened in between then and now. Rachael’s since merged with another skincare company, she’s launched TBH skincare into hundreds of Priceline stores around Australia and she’s just got so many good insights when it comes to her approach to marketing. She’s a big believer in grassroots, guerrilla style marketing - which I just absolutely love - it’s so my vibe - and there’s so much gold packed in here. It’s a great episode! There’s a few crazy stories sprinkled in here.

If you love it! Shout about it! Tell a friend. Honour the girl code. Oh! And I’m thinking about our next meetup for November and I’m trying to decide if we do Sydney or Melbourne. Sooo let us know in the DMs where we should host our Aussie catch up next month. I would love to meet you IRL

6 quick questions with Lily Harper, Founder of Lily Lou’s Aromas (Part 2)02 Oct 202300:08:10

This is Lily Harper for Female Startup Club

Welcome back to the show! It’s Doone here, your host and hype girl. So todays episode is very special, this is the youngest entrepreneur we’ve ever had on the show - by a long shot - and Lily is proof that when you set your mind to something and you follow your dreams and goals - amazing things can happen, no matter how old or young you are.

Lily Harper is an 9 year old entrepreneur and the founder of Lily Lou’s Aromas, and her story starts when she was being emotionally and physically bullied in school. So during the pandemic when schools were shut down students were sent to learn from home, and Lily found a passion in creating beautiful scented products. She started to thrive.

With a hyper-creative mind, Lily is continually coming up with new ideas and has set huge goals for herself and her company. An important foundation of Lily’s personal and business life is that she is involved in every decision, from Lily Lou’s Aromas to how her school day is planned out. This gives Lily the opportunity to learn and acquire knowledge and essential skills, while maintaining the freedom to grow in the direction she chooses.

A strong advocate against bullying, Lily is extremely involved in areas of charity work that holds significant meaning to her.

It was such an honour to get to chat with Lily about what she’s building and how she’s living her life - she’s an inspiration to us all.

Let’s get into today’s episode!

Welcome back to the show! If you’re new here... Hi! I’m Doone, your host and hype girl in business. Every week we learn from 7, 8 and 9 figure female founders to understand their blueprint in business when it comes to money, marketing and mistakes. Women like Jennifer Neville the founder of Live Zen With Jen.

Jen is a former professional golfer turned celebrity astrologer and YouTube psychic. Yep, you heard that right! Jen has found her path helping people find their passion and purpose in life through astrology and spirituality. 6 quick questions with Alexandra Fine, Founder of Dame Products (Part 2)20 Sep 202300:10:46

This is Alexandra Fine for Female Startup Club

Welcome back!! It’s been a hot second. I have MISSED this. Wow. So today after 7 weeks of not recording I’m jumping back on the show with a friend of mine, Alexandra Fine, the founder of Dame - she makes cool vibrators and is leading the charge when it comes to women and pleasure. We actually recorded an episode a few years ago which is such a vibe and you should definitely go back to hear her startup story but today we talk a lot about what it’s been like having her second baby and managing all the things, launching into 300+ target stores, what it’s like managing a co-founder relationship break down and at the veryyyy end she shares a funny story about her grandma’s best friends getting in on the vibe action. Loved this episode.

And while I’ve got you here - quick refresher on the girl code! If you listen to an episode and you smile and get value from it - take a tiny action for me. Tell a friend, share it on Insta. Subscribe. Eave a review. All these things matter and it’s the girl code!

I’m so happy to be back recording and I hope you love Al’s update in Business. Let’s jump in, this is Alex Fine for Female Startup Club.

Telling your Grandma you’re selling vibrators with Dame’s Founder, Alexandra Fine (Part 1)19 Sep 202300:42:38

SUMMER ‘23 - 6 quick questions with Hannah Drury, Founder of Peppermint Grove (Part 2)05 Sep 202300:10:32

This is Hannah Drury for Female Startup Club.

Welcome back to the show - if you’re new here! Hi! I’m Doone, your host and hype girl in business. Every week we learn from 7,8 & 9-figure female founders to understand their blueprint in business when it comes to money, marketing, and mistakes. Women like Hannah Drury the founder of Peppermint Grove Australia and Moss St Fragrances. Hannah started this business in 2014 with an investment of $50,000 and now she’s selling more than 100,000 products every month. Today we’re digging into Hannah’s story of building this brand over the last 10 years; what she did when her 100% retail model in business went to zero overnight when the pandemic hit and how she diversified her business by becoming her own manufacturer and perfumer.

Hannah also dives into her wholesale strategy in the early days and how she managed to secure her brand in 110 retail stores within the first 6 months of starting her business - as a one-woman show! I love her approach to pounding the pavement and owning her backyard which saw the brand incrementally grow across retail stores at an incredible rate. And the best bit? It was totally free!

And while I’ve got you here; you might have noticed that I’ve been talking more and more about our newsletter. And that’s because we’ve been crafting it to be an absolute go-to resource that delivers you weekly insights, resources, and extra content to keep you in the loop on all things women in business. Like industry news you know should know about, quick lessons and strategies you can use today, up-to-date grants, and special opportunities we’re offering to our newsletter subscribers aka more features and spotlights on YOU. SUMMER ‘23 - 6 quick questions with Kaylin Marcotte, Founder of Jiggy Puzzles (Part 2)30 Aug 202300:10:44

This is Kaylin Marcotte for Female Startup Club.

Welcome back to the show - if you’re new here! Hi! I’m Doone, your host and hype girl in business. Every week we learn from 7, 8 and 9 figure female founders to understand their blueprint in business when it comes to money, marketing and mistakes. Women like Kaylin Marcotte the founder of Jiggy Puzzles. And if you’ve been around FSC since the very early days circa beginning of 2020 you might remember our first interview together. It’s number 10 if you want to go back and listen to Kaylin’s story at the very beginning of her journey only a few months into building Jiggy (and also the very beginning of my journey with building Female Startup Club!) Today we’re getting up to speed on what’s happened in her world since then and we deep dive into the power of her business model when it comes to collaborations with female artists, strategic partnerships with corporate clients and how she managed to get on Oprah’s list of favourite things.

And while I’ve got you here; if you’re a founder yourself or you’re just getting started with putting together your ideas to launch a business slash side hustle; something I’ve come across that’s a problem for every founder at every stage is capital. Every entrepreneur or future founder I speak to - myself included - struggles with the money piece. We all need more money. So we’ve put together a comprehensive list of every grants and accelerator thats live right now - and we’re keeping it updated weekly. There’s some really good ones that are closing in a weeks time you should jump onto. To access the doc for free go to femalestartupclub.com/grants to get your copy.

SUMMER ‘23 - 6 Questions with Erin Deering, Founder of Triangl (Part 2)24 Aug 202300:12:52

This is Erin Deering for Female Startup Club

Hi, it’s Doone here - your host and hype girl - if you’re new here: welcome to the Female Startup Club podcast - where we interview some of the world’s most successful founders in business. We chat with entrepreneurs - who happen to be women - about all things money, marketing and mistakes - and dive deep into the blueprint that got them to where they are today.

Today we’re chatting with Erin Deering who is the founder of a cult swimwear brand you probably recognise, called Triangl. It’s one of those stories that has so many highs - it gained instant cult status within it’s first year of business, it was all over our feeds, it grew to a $200m valuation and from the outside - everything looked amazing. But on the flip side, Erin wasn’t living her best life and she was struggling. In this episode she shares the story of her highs but also of the lows and what it took to exit the business and follow her instincts. It’s rare to hear founders go so deep into the lows and this is one of those episodes we can all learn a lot from so I hope you love it as much as I did.

I particularly love diving into Erin's approach to influencer marketing right back in the early days of building Triangl, all with gifting making up the entirety of their marketing budget. The idea is that your product is still the hero, but this marketing strategy put trust into your new brand. That's the key point there, build trust. When you apply that logic with your marketing strategy, building trust with them instead of getting sales, it will shift who you target and who you reach out to. That logic is still applicable in 2023.

And if you want even more content from us, we send out an email every Monday that features strategies you can implement into your business, job opportunities at female founded startups, all the best news about women-led startups and women in business as well as new grants and other fun stuff that’s worth knowing. It’s totally free and you can subscribe at femalestartupclub.com.

SUMMER ‘23 - 6 quick questions with Babba Rivera, Founder of Ceremonia (Part 2)17 Aug 202300:13:32

This is Babba Rivera for Female Startup Club

On today’s episode we’re learning from Babba Rivera, the Latina founder behind Ceremonia, which is a clean hair care brand rooted in her heritage, inspired by the rituals she grew up with. And we’re talking through all the things! From Babba’s upbringing in a small tiny part of Sweden to big shiny startup life in New York City and the drive she got from her childhood and heritage to start this brand and have representation in the Latinax community for the next generation of founders. And Babba also shares some crazy stories like how she launched her brand from the nicu - and what can go terribly terribly wrong if you don’t have the right accountant. And trust me - that is not one to skip over it’s right at the very end of the show.

If you love this episode, please do leave us a review or share a screenshot on IG stories to help other ears find us! Let’s get into it, this is Babba for Female Startup Club

SUMMER ‘23 - 6 quick questions with Daniella Pierson, Co Founder of Wondermind (Part 2)14 Aug 202300:14:40

Hello and welcome back to the show! It’s Doone here, your host and hype girl. Today we’re learning from Daniella Pierson, the 27 year old Latina co-founder of Wondermind.

Daniella started her first company, The Newsette, as a sophomore in college, and despite not having any VC funding, seven years later The Newsette closed 2021 with $40M in sales and 8-figures of profit with a valuation of over $200 million. But that’s not all… she’s also the founder of the newly launched mental fitness startup Wondermind, that she launched with her co-founders Selena Gomez and Mandy Teefey after a powerful conversation around their mental health struggles. She is the World’s Youngest Wealthiest Self-Made BIPOC Woman.

This is seriously seriously an incredible episode. Daniella is very open about having ADHD, OCD, and Depression, and is passionate about showing the world that you can achieve success at any age, even without millions of VC dollars, while struggling with learning disabilities and mental health disorders.

You are going to love this really down to earth chat about building a startup and the high highs that come with the lowest of the lows. If you love this episode please do share it with someone that would benefit from hearing Daniella’s truly inspiring story.

SUMMER ‘23 - 6 quick questions with Ellen Yin, Founder of Cubicle to CEO (Part 2)11 Aug 202300:10:38

Today’s episode is brought to you by our pals at Norby - who we just love so much - we’re talking to Ellen Yin, the founder of Cubicle to CEO on all things being a content creator and working in the digital space.

What I love about this episode is Ellen’s ability to see when things aren’t serving her and take big leaps to move in new directions. As entrepreneurs we’re always evolving and it really is a process of iteration so I really resonated with this episode and I think you’ll get a lot out of it. You’re going to hear her transition from the corporate grind to agency to course creator to media company! Packed with tips and insights that will give you inspiration wherever you are in the journey.

I love the part of this episode where we dive into the future of media. All these traditional media companies are not necessarily going to disappear ofcourse, but the way consumers engage with the media will change. People these days would rather receive news and updates from a trusted voice and personality than they would tuning into their nightly news. Understand how are creators influence the media space and how are creators the future of the media space.

6 quick questions with Geo Moriarty, Co Founder of CinCin (Part 2)04 Aug 202300:08:14

This is Geo Moriarty for Female Startup Club

Today we’re learning from Geo Moriarty who is one of the co-founders behind my absolute GO-TO favourite fashion label CinCin. If you can imagine the vibe of FSC but in fashion label form, I mean this is it. It’s bold. It’s bright. It’s super cool. It’s giving maximalist OTT everything - and all the things I love. Right down to their hot pink couch in their retail store.

Geo and I go back circa 15 years and watching her build this business from the ground up into a multi 7 figure empire has been nothing short of bloody amazing to say the least. And if you’re in fashion I think you’re gonna love this episode. Seriously. We’re talking through the manufacturing and printing piece, even down to the nitty gritty of why you should or should not use silk. Lol. We talk about how to fund a fashion business and why it’s so tricky. We talk about retail, we talk about wholesale, the marketing piece. There’s literally so much gold packed into this episode. You are gonna love it!
