From his early films like The Roost (2005) and Trigger Man (2007), to  his work with other bootstrappy filmmakers on the original V/H/S anthology, to this year's double  -- no, make that triple! -- feature of X, Pearl, and soon MaXXXine, director Ti West has been a distinctive voice in the genre cinema landscape.  So how perfect that he felt seen -- and inspired -- by another unique cinema voice, Peter Jackson. Jackson's first film, Bad Taste (1987), saw him play multiple roles both behind and in front of the camera. It proved to a young Ti West that if you want to make a movie badly enough, you can always go ahead  and do it yourself.

Norwegian writer/director Eskil Vogt (on both solo projects and those co-written with frequent collaborator Joachim Trier) is intrigued by the idea of “coming of age”...regardless of what age that might be. Kali Reis is a champion boxer, but as she shares in this interview, she has always been "boxing for a cause" -- in particular, that of Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women. In her feature debut, 'Catch the Fair One' (directed by Josef Kubota Wladyka), she plays a  woman whose world is shaken when her sister goes missing.  Reis, who is of Wampanoag and Cape Verdean heritage, brings us a character with much different problems, but whose physicality, sense of humor, and deeply felt emotions, have been making Kali feel seen: Rue Bennett from HBO's Euphoria.
