The Grinch Who Stole Cher24 Dec 202401:00:30
It’s not easy being green—especially when your heart is three sizes too big. No, we’re not talking about someone abusing anabolic steroids; we’re talking about everyone’s favorite green Christmas curmudgeon: The Grinch.

Created by Dr. Seuss and brought to life in the iconic animated Christmas special by Chuck Jones—of Tom & Jerry fame—The Grinch was voiced by two legends: Boris “The Mummy” Karloff and Thurl “Tony the Tiger” Ravenscroft. As two beloved queer cultural figures, both are integral to this beloved holiday tradition.

And yet, despite the popularity of the book, the animated TV special, and the live-action movie, you seldom see people dressing up as The Grinch, until recently.

Today, actor, mime, and drag queen Gregg Steigmeyer joins us to talk about his unique gig playing The Grinch at holiday parties. Gregg shares how he strikes the delicate balance between staying in character as the grouchy Grinch while still spreading that essential holiday cheer.

Why is Gregg so good at playing The Grinch? Maybe it’s his background in physical comedy, or maybe it’s because he’s Vikki Spykke, one of Chicago’s drag legends going back to the 80s when drag queens excelled at bringing in the sass and the spunk.

Plus–– An original Christmas classic: The Grinch Who Stole Cher.

Golden Girls’ Bea Arthur Lives on in Luke McQuillan24 Dec 202401:14:25
The TV sitcom The Golden Girls went off the air 32 years ago, but thanks to reruns, Dorothy Zbornak and her gal pals live on in the hearts of many, especially queer folks who delight in the comedic hijinks of four senior women living together in Miami.

Although he was a toddler when the Golden Girls was first broadcast, voice over and musical theater actor Luke McQuillan’s viral covers in the voice of Bea Arthur is helping to keep the show’s legacy alive and it got him cast on Cartoon Network and Netflix shows.

Is Luke so good at challenging Bea Arthur that he runs the risk of being overshadowed by the Broadway legend?

Today Luke McQuilan joins us to celebrate the life and career of our favorite WWII Marine sergeant Bea Arthur, from her gigs in gay bars here in Chicago, to singing about drugs with Rock Hudson on her CBS TV special, from her quirky TV appearances like the Star Wars Holiday Special to her unforgettable portrayals as Maude and Dororthy on The Golden Girls.

Damon L. Jacobs' Project $20.2521 Oct 202401:22:08
The 2024 US Presidential election is a real nail biter. It’s now a choice between maintaining our democracy or turning the government over to a dictator, so it’s no wonder this election is causing a lot of anxiety, even pop stars and baby hippos are shooketh.

Project 2025, the well funded political scheme by the right wing hate group The Heritage Foundation hopes to replace all Federal leaders and judges with ultraconservatives loyal to Trump. The plan also calls for concentration camps for LGBTQ+ folks, immigrants and women who’ve had abortions.

Thankfully our friend, family therapist and PrEP activist Damon L. Jacobs has his own Project for 2025, calling it “PROTECT 2025” where he invites undecided voters living in one of the 7 swing states to have a conversation about the election with him. If they do, he will give them $20 and 25¢ for twenty minutes of their time.

Ka ching!

What does Damon hope to accomplish? Today Damon L. Jacobs joins us to look at the 2024 US Presidential Election between Trump and Harris, and why, like George Takei says, it’s urgent for all LGBTQ+ folks to take a stand and speak out.

Muscle Worship for Entertainment - Andrew Dombos26 Jul 202201:31:09
Bodybuilding is now a competitive sport, but its roots lie in show business. Strongmen have long been a staple of circus acts for their feats of strength but it was Prussian bodybuilder Eugen Sandow, who, under the management of Florenz Ziegfeld, went from lifting heavy objects onstage to capturing the world’s imagination by posing and flexing his muscles for fun and entertainment.

Over a hundred years later, there’s a club night called FLEX in San Francisco’s leather bar Powerhouse, which has bodybuilders come show off their muscles and invites the audience to join in on the fun with a best biceps contest.

Today FLEX organizer, bodybuilder and performer Andrew Dombos joins us to talk about putting together his muscle worship quarterly events, inspired by classic live muscle worship videos made by JimmyZ where audiences marvel at muscular physiques.

Pride Marches On22 Jun 202201:26:46
Ever since the Stonewall Riots ignited the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement in 1969, most major cities have had Pride Parades until the Covid Pandemic of 2020 where it was all put on pause.

This year will be the first Pride Parade we’ve had in two years, and while we are still concerned over Covid, there’s now also the worry over violence, like recently in Idaho where a van full of Fascist militia were ready to harm people celebrating Pride.

Joining us today is our pal Jack Ryan, the host of The 10% Percent Show that ran on Chicago Cable Access in the late 80s and early 90s, to take a look at the changing face of Pride and the new challenges we face this year as millions of people gather once again to celebrate sexual and gender diversity.

Drag Queens vs Fascists20 Jun 202201:11:04
Like St. Patrick’s Day or Mardi Gras, Pride month used to mean drunk, rowdy folks celebrating out in the streets, and now, for some, it means dragging your screaming kids to the local library to see drag queens struggling to read a children's book.

Fascists are now more critical of drag queens than Aubrey O’Day reading Alyssa Edwards for her perfume ad in Season 5 of Drag Race (look it up). But is all this commotion just a distraction from the January 6 hearings on the Republicans’ sloppy attempt at a political coup to end democracy?

Can’t these furry horned right wing fascists sashay away?

Today comedian Dan Cass, who sees the January 6th hearings as some of the best theater, joins us to make sense of the storm cloud of madness brewing.

Winning an Oscar Will Make You Slap Someone29 Mar 202200:54:10
The 94th Academy Awards were a pretty, oh so pretty event for West Side Story’s star Arianna DeBose.

Six decades after Rita Moreno won an Oscar for her portrayal of Anita in the first big-screen adaptation of the beloved musical, DeBose followed in her 90-year-old costar's footsteps to win for playing Anita in Steven Spielberg's 2021 version of West Side Story.

Then things got really wild when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock onstage after the comedian delivered a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith.

Today we’re talking about the highs, the lows and the blows of this year's Oscars ceremonies with comedian Matt Brown, who claims Jessica Chastain has his Oscar because the role of Tammy Faye will always be his.

Even pop star Sting has us wondering again if the Russians love their children too.

Eartha & Kitt: A Daughter's Love Story in Black and White22 Feb 202201:26:18
One of the artists who has had a profound influence on me is Eartha Kitt, the enchanting singer best known for her Christmas classic Santa Baby and for her portrayal of Catwoman in the purrfectly campy TV show: Batman.

Onstage, Eartha was as Orson Wells called her, “The Most Exciting Woman in the World.” Eartha sang in multiple languages and flirted mercilessly with her audience. But as outrageous as Eartha was on stage, the one thing she really wanted in life, after suffering an abusive upbringing in the South, was to be a mother.

That wish came true with the birth of her only daughter Kitt who grew up to be Eartha’s greatest life companion. Kitt toured the world with her mom and eventually went on to manage Eartha’s career and was with her when she died on Christmas Day in 2008.

Kitt Shapiro tells the story of their close relationship in her new book "Eartha & Kitt: A Daughter's Love Story in Black and White.” The book feels more relevant now than ever as it illustrates Eartha’s groundbreaking positions on race, diversity, the anti-war movement and embracing LGBTQ people.

Today Kitt Shapiro joins us to look back on her mom Eartha Kitt’s amazing life and adventures, singing songs in Tagalog and Japanese, and her love for gardening and eating all her vegetables.

The Battle Over West Side Story15 Dec 202101:04:03
When West Side Story hit theaters in 1961, it was a commercial and critical success, with Rita Moreno becoming the first Puerto Rican actor to win an Oscar for her role as Anita.

This urban take on Romeo and Juliet created by four Jewish gay artists as a cautionary tale about the hate destroying forbidden love resonated with audiences worldwide. The musical is nowadays considered a classic, but it’s also been criticised for its portrayal of Puerto Ricans and for casting white actors in brown-face makeup instead of actual Latinx performers.

60 years later, West Side Story is back, this time directed by Stephen Speilberg with new lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, a new book by Tony Kushner and Executive Produced by and starring Rita Moreno in a new role as the motherly Valentina.

The remake is being celebrated for its more positive portrayal of minorities, but some folks are still stung by the racist legacy of the original work and would rather see new films created for and by Puerto Rican people.

Today we take a look at Stephen Speilberg’s remake of West Side Story, what changes they made, why the box office numbers are low and why you will love it!

FOF #3000 - And the Feast Goes On08 Dec 202101:38:38
It’s the 3000th episode of Feast of Fun, the Gay Talk Show that (accoring to Apple) “helped pave the way to bring podcasting from an underground movement to a mainstream phenomenon.”

Today we celebrate like a bridesmaid at a destination wedding who’s had way too much to drink. We are spilling all the delicious tea, iced of course and looking at how everyone’s lives have changed as a result of podcasting, the Internet and Feast of Fun.

A lot for you and me has changed:

Transgender and queer people of color visibility is at an all time high, PrEP is a pill that effectively blocks all new HIV infections, LGBTQ folks can now serve openly in the military, and most important, cake sitting activists finally brought marriage equality into reality.

But it’s not all been good news, the Internet and podcasting ushered in a new rise of facism, social media is used as a tool for disinformation and a global pandemic is in full swing as right wingers deny it even exists.

Over the years, we’ve had the honor and pleasure of chatting with legends like Debbie Reynolds, George Takei, RuPaul, Carol Channing, Elvira and everyday artists who rose to become some of the most celebrated entertainers in the world.

But this time, we’re putting ourselves in the hot seat, as we unlock some of the dark, dirty secrets hiding in our vault of horrors.
FOF #2999 - Muscle Worship Adventures07 Dec 202101:27:41

But for those turned on by a muscular physique, whether it’s bodybuilders, bears, otters, or jocks in speedos, muscle worship is an exhilarating celebration of the body.

Let’s Grow Big Together! A podcast that makes your legs weak, but that’s because yesterday was leg day.

In this series, we’re taking a look at the passion for muscle: how to build it, how to keep it, muscle gods and muscle worship, and how LGBT folks are connected to bodybuilding.

Today we’re talking to a man we call Muscle Worship Bill, whose anonymous Instagram account Slave to the Muscle states “I pay to worship muscle.” While Bill’s identity is kept a secret, he’s happy to share his stories about what it’s like to kneel before a muscle god’s beefy brawn.
