Come celebrate with us as we bring you our 100th episode of Fairy Tale Fix! We mark this momentous occasion with the tale that's been told 100 million times and counting–the transformation queen, the midnight majesty, the bippity-boppiest of them all, Cinderella. Abbie reads the Brother's Grimm version for a fun twist on the tale, and Kelsey gives our former friend James Finn Garner a chance at redemption with his politically correct version.

December is the time of year we all collectively reach the end of our mental ropes and get to stop thinking - but Kelsey clearly didn’t get the memo! Fairy tale architecture and the decisions of kings are questioned when Abbie reads the Greek tale of The Nine Doves, followed by Kelsey’s reading of the Norse tale The Lad Who Went to The North Wind (a super chill dude actually).

ROSES HAVE THORNS! Kelsey reads The Rose Elf from our favorite bisexual disaster, Hans Christian Andersen, which starts off like a true fairy tale and then takes a sharp turn toward horror story. Abbie gets argumentative and reads African folk tale The Contest of Riddles, giving listeners the opportunity to argue amongst themselves whether or not Kelsey got any points or not for her predictions.

Abbie tells the lesser known but very exciting Brothers Grimm tale The Iron Stove, while Kelsey is super excited to debut The Lost Sister from her newest folktale book, Tales of East Africa. We’re sorry to say it (are we though?) but this is the episode of men who suck.

Bringing some true holiday nightmare fuel to your ears, Kelsey tells the world’s most depressing Christmas story ever, The Fir Tree, while Abbie tells the world’s weirdest fairy tale ever, The Snowman, both tales by known bisexual disaster Hans Christian Andersen. Brace yourself because both of these are TRULY WTF and that’s why we love them.

In this very special episode of Fairy Tale Fix, Abbie covers the Ballad of Mulan and then Abbie and Kelsey discuss the 1998 Disney film versus the 2020 Disney film.

Kelsey tells the strangely unsatisfying tale of Buttercup / Butterball / Butterbuck (or better still, Smørbukk) by the Norwegian fairy tale collectors Peter Christen Asbjørnsen and Jørgen Moe, while Abby covers TWO animal folk tales, Why Is The Bear Stumpy Tailed (another tale from Asbjørnsen and Moe) and Elephant And Hare, a story from the Massai people in Kenya and northern Tanzania.

Abbie and Kelsey read your stories! This first Listener Tales episode includes stories of hilarious things parents tell their kids to get them to behave and how they unexpectedly backfire on them, as well as how strongly kids believe in stuff and the destruction that ensues to prove a point.

Kelsey covers The Goose Girl from the Brothers Grimm (story told to them by Dorothea Viehmann), and Abby covers one of the many Russian folk tales of Baba Yaga (who is NOT John Wick but an old witch).

Just in time for Halloween, Abbie covers the classic Brother’s Grimm Hansel & Gretel, while Kelsey retells the lesser-known but equally thrilling Golden Hair. They also discuss their best Halloween costumes and favorite candies.

Kelsey covers the classic Hans Christian Andersen tale The Wild Swans, and how some kingdoms really need to focus on their education systems and vampire infestations rather than kidnapping poor mute maidens. Abbie tells a tale of Toads and Diamonds...and...how exactly does this gift/curse work??

Welcome to Fairy Tale Fix, a WTF fairy tale podcast. Abbie starts off spooky season with the fearsome tale of Bluebeard by Charles Perrault from the Blue Fairy Book, while Kelsey covers The Magic Lake from A Choice of Magic by Ruth Manning-Sanders.

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful young maiden with a face so fair and voice so eloquent no one could help but adore her. And, oh ho! Did she have a friend! But unbeknownst to the maiden, her good friend was a witch.

In this special Patreon preview, Abbie recites for Kelsey the 1680’s satirical poem The Dragon of Wantley, also known as A Farting Dragon Burlesque. Kelsey then regales her co-host with the tale of The Boy Who Wanted More Cheese. Both of these stories are exactly what they say on the tin, and it’s glorious.

In this special Patreon preview, Abbie & Kelsey pick a couple of random fairy tales to read, and boy do these stories deliver! Kelsey discovers an incredible tale about an unreasonably confident man who has ALL the audacity in The Brave Little Tailor. Abbie brings the mood way down with Children of Famine, then way, WAY back up again when she reads The Ungrateful Son.

Abbie cold reads a Cornish folk tale, The Mermaid's Vengeance, and it's a slow burn – you'll just have to trust the process. Mermaids Ahoy! Kelsey kicks off MerMay 2024 with the Irish tale of Fish Fitzgerald…err…the Lady of Gollerus - about an unlucky merrow whose story was definitely written by a weird old man. Abbie follows up with the true Bangladeshi story of a Puri Enchantment, and we hope everyone’s doing ok.

Join us this week as Abbie cold reads a couple of obscure Brothers Grimm fairy tales, including The Castle of Murder and The Carpenter & The Turner. Kelsey cold reads a tale that a listener sent specifically for Kelsey to read to Abbie. Can you guess where this is going? That's right – this tale is called The Cat and…erm… Rooster.

This week we finally learn the term “cold reading” thanks to our amazing Faerie Overlord and good friend, Giselle! Kelsey reads from a book discovered in her Little Free Library, posing the timeless question: Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People’s Ears. Meanwhile, Abbie treats us to a cold reading of a tale from our favorite storyteller, Ruth Manning-Sanders, featuring The Princess in the Iron Tower.

This week we're joined by our longtime friend Caroline Donham! Caroline tells us her Red Riding Hood fix that she rewrote when she was little, and it's just as cute as you'd imagine. Then she tells us some effed up nursery rhymes, and Abbie reads an even more effed up Brother's Grimm tale, The Heavenly Wedding.

We’re into some 100% real faerie stuff for Irish Fairy Tale Month with Abbie tackling the Harp of Dagda and attempting to coherently describe the Tuatha De Danann. Then Kelsey brings it home with a story that left our jaws on the FLOOR MULTIPLE TIMES: Hudden, Dudden, and Donal O’Leary.

For our first episode of Irish fairy tale month, we’re joined by some incredibly special guests… Katrina and Geoff from The Fairy Tellers podcast! Strap in for this super-sized and hilarious episode where Geoff puts the fear of God into us with The Doom, and then Katrina takes us for a wild ride that literally none of us could have ever predicted with The Legend of Ballytowtas Castle, both by the illustrious Lady Jane Wilde.

Today’s episode brought to you by existential dread! Kelsey regales the overly sappy fairy tale The Selfish Giant by Oscar Wilde—but don’t worry, she’s got a delightfully unhinged fix for our collective mood. Meanwhile, Abbie shares the indigenous (most likely Haida) folk tale The Ogre, the Sun, and the Raven, retold by Ruth Manning-Sanders. (That’s sun, not son.)

This one is for the #VillainSympathizers out there so…us basically! Kelsey retells the African American folktale Lonna And Cat Woman (we’ll let you guess who we’re rooting for here), and Abbie relates the story of Greek Cinderella - the most unreliable narrator of all time.

We're back with another of Abbie & Kelsey’s favorites – it's random reading time! Abbie continues our journey into the Ivanverse with the worst Ivan yet in What Happened To Ivan by Ruth Manning-Sanders, and Kelsey reads a fun dog-saves-the-day story with RMS's Niassa and the Ogre.

Kelsey and Abbie finish part two of The Snow Queen, Hans Christian Andersen’s timeless tale of friendship, childhood innocence, the darkness of the human heart, epic quests, strange side drama, and the enduring power of love. There’s just one problem; where the heck is the Snow Queen!?

We just can’t get enough of Hans Christian Andersen on this show and it’s freaking COLD out there anyway, so bundle up in your finest faux fur blankets, clutch a mug of something warm, and harken to this winter tale. That’s right, Abbie and Kelsey are finally tackling The Snow Queen.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year: Sad Victorian Bisexual Boy Christmas! Kelsey and Abbie regale each other with the traditional Hans Christian Andersen double feature with Kelsey reading The Red Shoes, and Abbie reading the Beetle. CW: These stories come with strong undertones of religious trauma and narcissistic behavior, but would it even be Christmas without them?

It’s all about who you know and how much money you have (just like real life) in today’s episode! Abbie tells the Russian folk tale of The Smith and the Demon, where you really only need $200 or so handy to become young again, and Kelsey follows up with the Icelandic Christmas monster the Yule Cat - who traditionally noms on...well you’ll see.

We examine the Pied Piper of Hamelin from every possible angle! Kelsey reads us the original Brother’s Grimm tale, a more recent poem based on it, and theories about the real life events that inspired it. Abbie follows up with the PC version from Politically Correct Bedtime Stories by James Finn Garner, and capstones it all off with the PC version of Red Riding Hood. Garner really posed the ultimate fix there, whether he meant to or not.

Abbie continues our dive into Little Red Riding Hood by reading the Algerian version called Rova. You won't find this tale in English anywhere else (probably)! Kelsey says goodbye to spooky Halloween with the Russian tale The Dead Mother and takes a sharp turn into a happily ever after with Ruth Manning-Sanders’ Andromeda Dances (without her insignificant slippers).

If you gave Red Riding Hood a nickel every time a wolf tried to eat her, she’d have two nickels. Not a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice right? Kelsey finally gets to tell her favorite childhood fairy tale, and surprises Abbie with the sequel she never knew existed! After that, Abbie tells the Taiwanese folktale of Aunt Tiger - a badass immortal witch who comes with sweets and an appetite for children.

Join us for a chilling episode as we're joined by visual storyteller and brilliant artist Chadwick Heiberg for spooky season! Chadwick unveils his original fairy tale, The Three Witches, following young sisters fleeing from their Salem home–a New England classic not for the faint-hearted. Kelsey shares two dark and twisted robber bridegroom tales; Greenbeard from Lithuania, and The Cannibal Innkeeper from Romania. Get ready ‘cause this one’s a doozy.

It’s still spooky season in our hearts (and IRL apparently but let’s not focus on that)! Abbie regales three cautionary tales about traveling through bogs (which are always scary), and Kelsey recounts more millennial folklore with Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.

#SwampWitchSummer is officially over and we’re back to give you some extremely WTF fairy tales! Kelsey fulfills her promise of making everyone uncomfortable with the indigenous Ponca-Otoe tale Teeth In The Wrong Places, and lightens it up a bit with indigenous Flathead folk tale Coyote Kills the Giant. Abbie randomly picks Thumbnickel from The Turnip Princess.

In this patreon preview, Kelsey reads some pure Danish nightmare fuel that somehow turns wholesome in Merman Rosmer by Ruth Manning-Sanders, and Abbie reads a poetic Scottish tale that had more potential in The Fisherman and The Merman and also reads The Toad Bride from the Turnip Princess.

To close out Pride Month 2023, Abbie tells the story of The Princess Who Would Be A Prince, a story with a serious case of gender. Come for the magician horses and the crossdressing and gender-swapping, stay for the chamois, which is definitely a type of light footed goat.

We decided to treat ourselves, and you, to some truly WTF stories to kick this Pride Month off! Abbie tells the Swedish tale of Prince Lindworm, a guy you're totally on board with, until you're very not. Kelsey follows up with a cautionary tale about believing too much in your dreams, The Daydreamer, and then the pièce de résistance of our episode: the Wintu story of the Rolling Head. You will be uncomfortable. And that's by design.

Move over Sad Girl Mermaid, you’ve gotten enough attention. We’re in our Mad Girl Mermaid era now, with Kelsey telling the origin story of the Mermaid of Warsaw. Or we’re possibly in our Fancy Girl Mermaid era, as Kelsey follows that story up with a tale about Nigerian water goddess/benevolent fish giver Mami Wata. Finally, Abbie gives us all a Greedy Girl Mermaid with The Nixie in the Pond, but we never learn enough about her to know if we want her to be a whole era.

It's Halloween–time for spooky forests, creepy disguises, and taking sweets from strangers. What better fairy tale than the classic Brothers Grimm Snow White & The Seven Dwarves?? In this episode, Kelsey retells the classic SW tale, and Abbie reads the somehow even more chilling politically correct version. Strap in because this episode gets REAL spooky. Seriously...wtf???

We explore the three types of mermaid in the first #MerMay episode of 2023, with two Filipino folktales from Abbie: The Litao and Serena, and The American and The Sirena. Later, the Ivan Cinematic Universe (ICU) is expanded with the true origin story of the mermaid from Episode One’s The Magic Lake when Kelsey tells the tale of Long John and the Mermaid.

Ahoy, matey! Prepare yourself for rough winds ahead on our pirate-themed episode! Steering us into merMay Kelsey hoists her hope sails high for piratey nonsense in The Cock with the Golden Feathers by Ruth Manning-Sanders. Then, prepare for Abbie to shiver your timbers with a haunting listener-recommended tale of Black Bartelmy’s Ghost.

On Fairy Tale Fix we believe in the Ancient and Sacred Right of Dibs, and so does everyone in the Swedish story Kelsey reads: The Troll Ride. Next, Abbie celebrates not having to be in the U.S. or at work by reading the Malaysian fairy tale: The Fairy Princess of Ledang Mountain.

It's the end of Irish fairy tale month, and we've got some good ones! Abbie reads a short story just for Kelsey called The Talking Cat, then follows it up with another story just for Kelsey, The Giant’s Stairs. Kelsey gets spooky and reads a tale from the banshee section called Hanlon’s Mill.

It’s March and that means Irish fairy tales ALL MONTH LONG! Kelsey kicks us off with Ethna The Bride, a tale about a man who will hire other people to do ANYTHING for love while he watches. Then Abbie reads The Brewery of Eggshells, which is somehow creepy AND light-hearted at the same time.
