NIORS (aka MASTERS)07 Dec 202400:29:42
Today the Eyres do a deep dive into the questions of ageing, of relevance, of diversity, and of the enormous and growing (but undervalued and underused) asset of those who are over 70. If you are a senior, how do you stay relevant in your family, in your church, in your community? And if you are younger, how to you honor and tap in to the wisdom? Maybe, as in sports, we call the older divisions "Masters."
KIDS, GRATITUDE, and COUSINS30 Nov 202400:30:22
On the morning after Thanksgiving, Richard and Linda talk about their day of gratitude with their family and the guest family of refugees from Guatemala who joined them for the holiday. Is gratitude inversely related to how much we have? Why do those with less blessings seem to appreciate them more? Two of the Eyres' grandkids join them for part of the podcast.
FRIENDSHIP28 Sep 202400:30:04
On today's episode, Richard and Linda are joined by their son Eli for a discussion of the power and value of friendships. They share a family discussion they recently had about talking to our children about how to be a good friend, and they refer to a YouTube video featuring Trevor Noah and Simon Sinec that you can watch at https://youtu.be/CNBxIhxHHxM.
3-Letter Lesson #21: ODE24 Dec 202200:32:04
On Christmas Eve, the Eyres present 3-letter lesson #21 in their series. "ODE" is defined as a poem of praise, and they pose the question, "Why do prophets and sages spend do much time and effort praising God? Does God need our praise? No, it is about what God knows WE need--we need the perspective of His "everythingness" and our own "nothingness." Praise is important because it is the antidote to pride, and Christmas is the ideal time to start!
3-Letter Lesson #20: NOW17 Dec 202200:31:15
As Christmas approaches, Richard and Linda reflect on Christmases past and look to the future, but introduce the 3-letter lesson of NOW and the importance of living in the present and learning to love THIS moment in time. They challenge us, during this busy season, to pause and really be here, NOW, noticing the smiles, the surprises, and the momentary joys that we often miss.
Gratitude and Grace10 Dec 202200:30:07
In this episode, Richard and Linda carry on with their monthly gratitude challenges and encourage us to incorporate the beauty-full concept of Grace into our entries in our gratitude journals. They invite us to consider the relationship between being grateful and being grace-full. General thankfulness is fine, but only when it has a deeply felt object or focus and the subject or recipient of God does it begin to fill with Grace.
Christmas and Money03 Dec 202200:30:59
That title may mislead--but on today's episode the Eyres talk first about Christmas Traditions and recall some of their most cherished family memories at Christmas. Then they shift gears to concerns over the materialism of Christmas and how to separate the giving from the getting in children's minds. They conclude by mentioning their Grandparenting101.com Zoom seminar this week which focuses on helping grandkids financially without entitlement.
Three-letter Lesson #19: SSS26 Nov 202200:30:54
In the aftermath of Thanksgiving, Richard and Linda focus on three 11-letter "S" words that they feel are the keys to true happiness; and each word is the opposite of or the antidote for an attitude or paradigm that makes us miserable. The opposite of the false concept of Ownership is Stewardship. The antithesis of Control is Serendipity, and the antidote for Independence is Synergicity. You will enjoy the Eyre's unique outlook and discussion of each of the three.
Three-letter Lesson #18: GGG19 Nov 202200:29:44
As Thanksgiving approaches, the Eyres spend this episode talking about the relationship between three "G" words: Gratitude, Generosity, and Graciousness. This is the 18th concept in their 3-letter Lessons series, and one that is particularly timely for the Thanksgiving weekend and the Christmas season that follows. They also share their Thanksgiving Card poem and would be happy to send the card to you if you request one at EyresGrandparenting101@gmail.com.
One-on-one Relationships between 3 generations within a Family12 Nov 202200:30:58

Today the Eyre's discuss two podcasts, "IN THE ARENA with the Eyre Sisters" and "Couple Things" with Shawn Johnson and Andrew East--and point out that while "social media" may strike fear and dread in the hearts of many parents, there are great, family-focused "influencers" that can help our families. Their daughters talk about growing up in the Eyre family and now raising their own, and Shawn and Andrew represent still another generation of younger families.
3-Letter Lesson #39: T.F.G.21 Sep 202400:30:54
This week's 3-Letter Lesson is a warning and a caution--about how Taking For Granted (TFG) can undermine our happiness, eliminate our wonder and awe, and sedate us into missing out on all the little and big joys that life offers us. Richard and Linda explore why our minds default so often to a sense of entitlement or of taking things for granted instead of to the antidote of gratitude, awareness, and praise.
Three-Letter Lesson #17: AGE15 Oct 202200:29:35
In this new episode, Richard and Linda continue their series of three-letter concepts, and focus on our attitudes toward AGE, which is perceived so differently in various parts of the world. Then they drill down to the personal level and discuss "the joys of growing older" and the ways that parents and grandparents can form synergistic teamwork in how children and grandchildren are raised. Richard and Linda are still in London this week, and start today's show with some observations about the West End Theater district and the powerful symbolism of a couple of new productions--which leads into the October Gratitude Journal challenge--to write down each day a blessing that we don't deserve, have not earned, and could never repay, often connected to Christ's Atonement, the greatest of all gifts.

The Eyre's join us on this episode from the Big Apple where they are visiting some of their grandkids and going to the U S Open Tennis, Richard's (but also Linda's) passion. As always in the first week of a month, they challenge us to a new twist in our gratitude journals, focusing each day on being thankful for one thing we do not control--from our digestion or sweat glands to the sunset or the weather. The idea is to focus our gratitude this month on Serendipity and Stewardship.
Meekness, continued27 Aug 202200:28:33
This week the Eyre's continue and conclude their discussion of their three-letter lesson "Mek," and talk about humility and "nothingness" as the antidote for the division, discord, dissension, and disrespect that infests our politics, our church congregations, and our families. Highlighting quotes from C. S. Lewis, G. K. Chesterton, and Richard Rohr they conclude with President Russell M. Nelson's three word summary.
Three-Letter Lesson #15: MEK20 Aug 202200:30:52

For more information see grandparenting101.com.
3-Letter Lesson #38: AGE14 Sep 202400:31:20
After 12 episodes exploring a "new lens" for viewing Church and family, the Eyres get back to their ongoing series on "3-Letter Lessons"--little word-pegs that remind us of perspectives and attitudes we want to embrace. Today the word is AGE, and Richard and Linda advocate that age and its wisdom and perspective should be valued, respected, tapped-into, and even cherished-- much more so than it is in western society today.
Putting Adversity in Your Gratitude Journal06 Aug 202200:30:45
It sounds counter-intuitive--being grateful for opposition and problems and adversity, but actually these things are an important and essential part of thankfulness and gratitude. As on every first week of the month, Richard and Linda issue a challenge on a new approach to gratitude journals for the month ahead, and for August their challenge is to write down an obstacle each day and how we either resolved it or embraced it.
Three-Letter Lesson #14: END30 Jul 202200:29:55
This episode is devoted to vision, dreams, and the ENDS that we want to work toward in our lives. The Eyre's begin with some final end-notes on their Family Reunion that has just concluded and then move to their three-letter lesson series where END becomes the focus, along with the MEANS or plans that get us to our desired family and relationship goals or ends. Richard and Linda point out how all parents throughout the world share the goal of raising Joyful, Responsible, Sensitive Children, we all find our own methods for doing so. Jonah and Aja's example is extreme in some ways, but it will prompt our own ideas.
3-Letter Lesson #13: REL25 Jun 202200:32:06
Today the Eyre's continue their 3-letter lesson series. REL abbreviates Relationships, which they contrast with Achievements as the two things we desire and that we spend our time and energy on. The Eyre's conclude with the revolutionary concept of setting "Relationship Goals."
Throwback- Three-Letter Lesson #9: LOW18 Jun 202200:30:16
On today's show, the Eyre's continue their series on "three-letter lessons"--little word-pegs that represent touchstones or concepts to live by. The word LOW may initially have a negative connotation, but think of it as a representation of humility, of the joyful acknowledgement of our own vulnerability and "nothingness" contrasted with the glory and "everythingness" of God. This replaces self-confidence with faith and leads to calmness and peace (and even to lower blood pressure!)
The Summer Of Grandparenting11 Jun 202200:30:32
As always in the second week of the month, the Eyre's focus today on grandparenting and on the teamwork that good families strive to create between parents and grandparents for the benefit of the children. Gratitude and Vitality04 Jun 202200:30:49
On the first week of every month, Richard and Linda talk about another unique aspect of Gratitude, and today they challenge us to focus on one physical, bodily blessing each day while meditating for three minutes, and then to write, in our gratitude journals, a sentence about that aspect of our health. Gratitude, the Eyre's believe, is a key to vitality, and shifting our focus from something that is not going well in our bodies to something that is--can bring a welcome bit of joy.
(Re-run) PRAYERFUL PARENTING07 Sep 202400:29:01
(Re-run from 10/30/2020) Lincoln said "Sometimes I am driven to my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I have no place else to go." As parents, we often feel this same feeling. Parenting is hard, children are complicated, the world is dangerous and confusing, particularly in this pandemic--and we are driven to our knees because we have nowhere else to go. And this can be a GOOD THING, because an earthly parent praying to a Heavenly Parent about a child that they share can create some of the most fervent, effectual prayers ever uttered. And it can generate answers that we would never find anywhere else. On today's show, the Eyres talk about parental prayer and how we can all make it a more important part of our lives.

Richard and Linda's youngest daughter, Charity, joins them on the podcast today from Costa Rica.
Three-Letter Lesson #11 "ONE"14 May 202200:30:44
On today's episode the Richard and Linda reveal more about the book they are writing called "Three Letter Lessons" and how simple little "word-pegs" can influence how we live and how we see the world. The eleventh lesson is "ONE" which is about how we can be united with and tolerant of those we disagree with or are different from. And, the Eyre's contend, "oneness" is a better and more complete goal for marriage than "equality."
A 6-month course on Grandparenting and 3-generation families07 May 202200:30:54

The May Challenge for Gratitude Journals30 Apr 202200:30:44
On today's episode, Richard and Linda unveil the new "take" on gratitude and challenge us to write one handwritten thank-you note each week and to write one "happy" and one "sad" each day in our gratitude journals. They discuss how the art of graceful and grateful receiving can transform our lives and the lives of others. One metaphor is that no matter how perfect a pass the quarterback throws, it is not complete until the receiver gathers it in.
Three-Letter Lessons (A review and a special guest)23 Apr 202200:30:13
The Eyre's are casting today from the Island of Mallorca off the coast of Spain in the Mediterranean. They are there with their son Talmadge, working on their forthcoming book THREE-LETTER LESSONS, which presents 20 "word pegs" to help refine and improve our attitudes and our characters. Most people today work and plan harder on what they are DOING than on who they are BECOMING. The word pegs of the three-letter lessons can change that balance.
Three-Letter Lesson #10: FAM16 Apr 202200:30:13
On today's episode, the Eyre's continue with their mini-series on short, three letter words or abbreviations that can set our priorities and attitudes for life. The tenth three letter lesson is FAM, or the ultimate priority of our families in the broadest extended sense that includes cousins, uncles, aunts, parents--everyone to whom we are blood related. Learning to love and serve and forgive and mend fences within this "inner" of life is the key to everything.

Three-letter lesson #9: LOW26 Mar 202200:30:16
On today's show, the Eyre's continue their series on "three-letter lessons"--little word-pegs that represent touchstones or concepts to live by. The word LOW may initially have a negative connotation, but think of it as a representation of humility, of the joyful acknowledgement of our own vulnerability and "nothingness" contrasted with the glory and "everythingness" of God. This replaces self-confidence with faith and leads to calmness and peace (and even to lower blood pressure!)
The "EVERYTHINGNESS" of CHRIST31 Aug 202400:32:50

To see the full article go to latterdaysaintsmag.com.
Three-Letter Lesson #8: FLO19 Mar 202200:30:11
Continuing with their series on "Three-Letter Lessons," the Eyre's talk today about the concept, the attitude, and the paradigm of FLO--of getting into the mental "zone" where things happen naturally and calmly and fall into sync with the realities of the day. Discussing methods like meditation, breathing, and music, Richard and Linda discuss the internal ways of feeling FLO, and then turn to the more spiritual approach of prayer and asking for God's Spirit to bring the FLO.
A Spiritual Approach to Grandparenting12 Mar 202200:32:03
If you are a grandparent, listen to this episode. If you are not a grandparent, send the link to someone who is. The discussion is about taking grandparenting to a new, higher level, and becoming the "trunk" that links your roots with your branches. The spiritual part is understanding that our grandkids are actually our brothers and sisters, and that we can get help and inspiration from the real Father.
Does Gratitude Equal Character?05 Mar 202200:29:16
As always on their first podcast of the month, Richard and Linda discuss the connections between gratitude and character and propose that "the deliberate effort to see through a gratitude lens makes bad people good and good people better." They quote Cicero who said "Gratitude is the greatest of virtues, in fact, the parent of all other virtues." The Eyre's then present the Gratitude challenge for March which is to thank someone personally each day and record it in our gratitude journals.
