| How to Prepare for an Internal Job Interview | 04 Feb 2022 | 00:11:45 | |
If you’ve found the perfect company to work for, you don’t need to land the perfect job…yet. After all, even if you’re in a less-than-perfect position, you can apply for a more suitable job internally as soon as it opens. By then, you will have had the chance to show your quality of work, work ethic, and commitment to the company, making you an ideal candidate. While interviewing for an internal position is a wonderful opportunity, it includes unique challenges. One of the biggest mistakes people make when interviewing internally is failing to prepare adequately. They may believe the interview is simply a formality, and they have the job in the bag. Their interviewer may be familiar with their work, so they may not arrive prepared to talk about the specifics of their contributions. And finally, they may have a friendly relationship with the interviewer and treat the interview too casually. Tune into the latest Express to Impress Podcast episode to get my tips to prepare for an internal job interview and get the job you want! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Original theme music by Lucas Knutter Read the transcript here. | Executive Coach Shares Surprising Ways to Stand Out in a Job Interview | 03 Nov 2021 | 00:14:34
I invite you to tune in to hear the rest of my conversation with Executive Coach Terri Creeden! In the last episode, Terri talked about authenticity and vulnerability and how they can help people get a job and build meaningful relationships in the workplace. This time, we talk about being authentic in an interview and hear two stories about women who leaned into vulnerability and authenticity and how it helped them in their careers. Here’s an excerpt from our conversation: You're never gonna have it all, right? So she went (into the job interview) and said, “This is who I am. This is what I do. You can look at my track record. This is what I've done in the past. I love doing it, and I am the right person for this job.” And she got it! Original theme music by Lucas Knutter Read the transcript here. | How to Get a Job While Being Authentic & Vulnerable With Terri Creeden | 27 Oct 2021 | 00:18:04
Get ready for a special treat! In this episode, I talk with Terri Creeden, an Executive Coach, trainer, and facilitator. Terri is a Certified Daring Way Facilitator and Dare to Lead Facilitator through the Brené Brown Education and Research Group. During our conversation, we talk about how to get a job while being authentic and vulnerable. Here are some gems from this episode: "The employer will be most impressed by an authentic person sitting in front of them and not somebody who has canned, formulated responses that they've heard from every other candidate. Let them see who you really are and not who they are hoping you are." "Anytime we are caught up managing our image, how we look and appear, and come across to somebody else, that immediately takes us right out of authenticity. So you're moving further away from what's really going to win you that interview." "What leaders really want to see is that they can trust somebody. If you aren't able to say, "I need help, or I can't do that, or I don't know how to do that," they're going to have trouble trusting you." Tune in to get more valuable insights from Terri, so you're well prepared for your next job interview! The second part of our conversation will be released in the next episode. | Expert Coach Shows How to Master Impromptu and Nonverbal Communication | 24 Jun 2023 | 00:26:23
In the second half of my interview with Communication Coach Mike Acker, he said something I see all the time with my clients. He said, “If you have your nonverbals misaligned with your verbals, you’re going to be overpowering your verbal content. I’ve seen that again and again. Where people say, “I’m excited to be here.” But they don’t sound excited. They don’t look excited.” Nonverbal communication often isn’t taught in English classrooms, just like pronunciation isn’t. But these are both important aspects of communicating in English effectively! | How to Present Ideas Successfully | 22 Jan 2021 | 00:15:29
Have you been promoted at work for your great ideas? While we all have good ideas, sadly, most of them never see the light of day. People keep their ideas to themselves for many reasons. Perhaps they don’t like speaking up in meetings or feel overburdened by work and don’t want to invite more work. Maybe they’ve brought up ideas at work before, and others didn’t seem interested or even discouraged them. After all, most people don’t recognize the potential of an idea at first. But of course, we all benefit from good ideas. In the workplace, they can lead to the creation of entirely new products and services, an easier way to do something, time saved, or countless other benefits. Tune in to this episode of the Express to Impress podcast to find out how to present ideas successfully. You’ll advance your career in no time!

In this episode, we dive into communication styles by nationality, and you’ll learn how to prepare for an interview with a hiring manager who expects concise answers. If you’re accustomed to talking at length and rambling, modifying your communication style will take some effort. But, it’s possible if you follow the seven tips outlined in the episode.
