And the user experience is not great, since the user must memorize this complex secret, which changes periodically.” Passwordless authentication allows users access applications and systems without the need for a password. Instead, users authenticate themselves using a private key stored on their local device. The private key is then matched with a public key registered with the online service. This eliminates the need for users to remember or manage passwords, which can be difficult and often lead to weak or reused passwords.
