62. Alison's Journey To Finding Joy With Horses Again After Years Of Battling Chronic Illness14 Apr 202200:43:54
In this episode, I chat with Alison Curtis, who has just completed my Confident Equestrian Program (CEP) on a one on one basis.

Alison had years of experience with horses and always found it easy to spend time with them until she fell ill and battled chronic illness for five years. During the time she was ill, all she was able to do was feed her horses.

Then as she began to recover, she suddenly lost her heart horse which added to the fear she was feeling about spending more time with her horses.

About a year later, she contacted me and joined the CEP to see if she could get back her joy with her horses again.

Together we chat about all of the above plus an honest reflection of how her journey in CEP unfolded, and she found happiness with her horses again, which she never thought would be possible three months ago.

Her journey is so inspiring. I am so happy for her and so grateful for the ability to be able to guide her on this journey.

61. Balancing Positive & Negative Reinforcement, Setting Quiet Horses Up For Success, and Trusting Yourself With CEP Graduate, Cassie07 Apr 202200:49:33

In this episode, I chat with Confident Equestrian Program (CEP) graduate Cassie. She has a background in psychology and is a dog trainer who predominately uses positive reinforcement, but before she joined CEP, she struggled to find a method of reinforcement that felt right to her to use with her horse.

Together we discuss:

- How she was able to find and accept a method of reinforcement that works well for her quiet but very foody Clydie x, Oakie

- Her concerns about using negative reinforcement and desensitising and what her views are on that now

- The struggles she was facing as someone who wants to use both positive and light negative reinforcement with her horse and the perceived judgement that can come from that

- How she has been able to set Oakie up for success and prioritise their relationship whilst progressing with their training goals

- Her journey towards trusting herself and realising that she is the expert of her horse

- Her thoughts about CEP

and so much more.

56. Emma's Confidence Journey From Being Bolted On & Terrified To Cantering Her Horse Holding An Umbrella10 Feb 202201:04:16
In this episode, I chat with the lovely Confident Equestrian Program (CEP) graduate, Emma Nixon. She joined CEP because her confidence level plummeted after her young horse bolted on her and she fell off. She had addressed some holes in his training since that incident and he hadn't shown any signs of doing it again but she still perceived him to be quite noise sensitive and she didn't completely trust him.

Listen to hear her background with horses and how she got to that point plus the awesome wins and lessons she learnt inside CEP along the way.

Plus towards the end of this episode we also touch on how she has been able to stop worrying about what other people think and what has happened since she has started doing what she wants to do and putting herself out there.

If you are someone who lacks confidence you should definitely listen to this episode and let Emma inspire you!

47. How Waiting Allowed Nicole's Horse To Become Way More Curious & Open Up After Years As A Riding School Horse02 Dec 202100:32:12

If you own a shutdown horse, struggle to connect with your horse or feel anxious around them then you must listen to this episode!

I chat with Nicole Warwick who is a recent graduate of my Confident Equestrian Program (CEP). She joined the program because she was struggling with her horse, Captain. He is in his 20's and has spent most of his life as a riding school horse and Nicole really wanted to connect with him on a deeper level. However, traditional methods weren't working for her and she ended up feeling unsafe around him which caused her to seek out alternative methods which led her to clicker training and to join CEP.

Initially, she joined with a focus on helping her horse but soon realised that it was her mindset that needed to have the biggest change and oh my goodness did she gain some amazing lessons.

Her horse is now so much more curious, he is much braver and he is showing a side of himself that quite possible no one has seen in the past. He has really taught Nicole the power of waiting and surrendering to the process.

I just think it's the coolest thing ever to be able to change a horses life like that and whilst doing so changing your own life for the better in the process.

So sit back, listen and enjoy!

46. How Sarah Went From Feeling Crippled With Fear Trying To Ride Out Of The Arena To Riding Around A Huge Paddock & Enjoying Herself25 Nov 202100:29:16

I am so happy to bring you this episode today as I feel that it is a conversation that isn't openly shared enough! Join me as I chat with my past client, Sarah about how she went from feeling crippled with fear trying to ride outside of the arena to riding around a huge paddock and enjoying herself!

Before Sarah contacted me she had spent 1 year trying to force herself to ride out of the arena but was only able to progress 10 meters in that time. People would tell her to just push through the fear and keep going but that strategy just wasn't working.

She then contacted me and 3 private mindset sessions later she was able to get to the root cause of her anxiety, reframe it and make progress riding out of the arena. Within a very short period of time, she was riding around a huge paddock and now she catches herself realising how much she is enjoying it.

It honestly makes me SO HAPPY that she is able to enjoy her horse and let go of the debilitating fear that she was holding on to and I hope her honest story inspires you to show you what is possible and makes you feel not so alone.

45. Katherine Lowry On How She Came To Be An Equestrian Biomechanics Clinician18 Nov 202101:01:37

In this episode, I chat with Katherine Lowry, an Equestrian Biomechanics Clinician based in the United States.

Together we dive into:

  • When she started riding and how she never knew her mum was into horses before having children
  • Learning to ride and the importance of developing an independent seat
  • Her journey to becoming a horse trainer and how working in different barns with different disciplines allowed her to develop her feel for what worked across the board and the intricacies of each training regime
  • Her journey to healing after having some bad falls and overcoming her diagnosis of never being able to ride again
  • How in giving a lesson she was able to realise that she was actually more of a Biomechanics Coach than she realised which led her to hone in on that as her niche
  • How to invite chaos back into your riding
  • The number 1 exercise she believes all riders should incorporate into their routine

and so much more!

Plus stay tuned because there will be a part 2 coming out in the future to dive deeper into some practical biomechanics tips for everyone to try!

44. Balancing Being A Horsey Mum & Helping A Sensitive Pony With CEP Grad, Amy Bianchi11 Nov 202100:53:43

In this episode, I chat with one of my wonderful Confident Equestrian Program (CEP) graduates, Amy Bianchi. She is a mum of 3, an Earth Energy Guide, and she joined CEP to help her daughter's pony feel more confident and expand her skills.

  • The mindset shifts she made to allow her to follow her feel
  • Balancing her kid's expectations of wanting to do things with the horses whilst prioritising the horse's confidence levels
  • How her goals have shifted completely now that she is viewing things through a new lens
  • How much stronger her connection is with Milo, her daughter's pony

43. Navigating The Up's & Down's That May Come With Owning A Very Sensitive Horse Featuring CEP Graduate, Kellie04 Nov 202100:39:51

In this episode, I chat with Confident Equestrian Program (CEP) graduate Kellie McCleave. Kellie joined CEP because she was having some trouble helping her very sensitive warmblood and wanted to pursue her dressage goals confidently and safely.

Little did she realise that her goals would actually change along the way as she started to connect with her horse on a deeper level. It has been a bit over a year since she completed the program, but she still utilises what she learnt each time she sees him, and some days are great, and some days he still struggles. The beautiful thing is that either way, Kellie can still appreciate the journey, not take it personally and help him through it.

Listen to hear about:

  • Her journey with horses before and after having children
  • What she was like before she started CEP
  • Lessons learnt throughout the program
  • Navigating the up's and down's whilst trying to help her sensitive warmblood
  • Her new goals and how differently she is viewing her time with her horse

and so much more.

Happy listening :)

42. Why I Think You Should Desensitise Your Horse & How To Get Started28 Oct 202100:35:35

Ok, desensitising can be a bit of a taboo word in the compassionate horsemanship realm BUT I want to explain why I use that term and why I actually love desensitising, which is why I decided to create this episode!

Listen in to hear about:

  • What desensitising IS and ISN'T
  • The benefits if done correctly and why you should consider adding it to your training regime
  • How to get started with your horse
  • Working with horses that have established fears vs those that don't

Prevention from big fear-inducing situations is better than cure and in my opinion, desensitising in a controlled environment first can help you do that.

We owe it to our horses to best prepare them for our human world. Their flight response can only get them so far and sometimes it isn't enough to help them or keep us safe.

There is a better way and I want you to feel empowered to prepare your horse for ANY environment because you can!

41. How To Get Over Worrying About What Other People Think21 Oct 202100:29:28
There have been many times in my life when I have worried about what other people think and have trusted other people's judgment over my own.   Like when I: -was competing and wanted external validation -was showing and wanted to learn about horsemanship -would have lessons with people I look up to -was trying to blend horsemanship and competing -first started posting on social media -did my first podcast -started giving lessons -launched my Confident Equestrian Program And this list goes on...   But what has always served me has been connecting back to my why and learning how to completely back myself.   So in this episode, I wanted to share with you how you can navigate worrying about what other people think and come out of the other side of it feeling confident instead of holding yourself back.   I hope what I share helps you understand your concern a little more and helps you to move forward with a bit more ease.    You don't need to hold yourself back because of others. You can learn to trust yourself. Just keep going. You've got this!   Happy listening :)

40. Josh Nichol On Building Relationships, Cultivating The Energy You Wish To Be In & Being Authentic14 Oct 202101:08:53

In this episode, I have a conversation with horseman and horsemanship trainer, Josh Nichol. Josh teaches people in person and on a global scale Relational Horsemanship Training and has a strong emphasis on cultivating deep connections with both our horses and ourselves.

- How important it is to listen to ourselves and our horses

39. Past Not So Great Experiences With Horses & How I Would Mitigate Them From Happening Now07 Oct 202100:43:23

In the past, I have forced horses to do things. I have lunged horses for hours, used tack that didn't fit, used tongue ties, used earplugs, let people hit my horses, used draw reins, yanked, kicked and felt let down by my horses 'poor' behaviour.

I wanted to share some of these experiences with you all and explain how I would mitigate them from happening now. Because I can't go back in time and change what I did, I might be able to help someone who listens to realise that there is a better way to work through these situations.

I genuinely believe that when these things happened, I was doing the best I could with the knowledge I had, and so were those around me. My intentions were good, and I loved my horses so much, I just didn't know of another way.

I hope that this episode makes you feel not so alone and inspires you to think outside the box and realise that you can help your horse through any situation you encounter.

37. How To Get Out Of Your Own Way & Start Flowing With Life With Spiritual Mentor, Shadya Karawi Name23 Sep 202101:03:57

In this episode, I have a beautiful conversation with my amazing friend Shadya Karawi Name about how we can get out of our own way and start flowing with life!

Shadya is a Spiritual Mentor from Barcelona who inspires, expands and transforms the lives of thousands of people all around the globe. To do this she uses an intuitive combination of astrology, channelling, psychology, tapping and family constellations so they can let go of whatever holding them back in their life so they can step into the highest, most magical version of themselves.

I met (and manifested) Shadya just under a year ago and she is my go-to person to help me reframe, shift and celebrate anything that is coming up for me in my life. Even though we have never physically met we are totally best friends and she is super gifted at what she does!

Together we have a conversation about:

  • How to navigate new beginnings in life and with our horses
  • How we can understand our behaviour through connecting to our inner child
  • How we can slow down and be present in our lives
  • What it means to be brave and how we can use this to cultivate our dream life and relationships
  • How to reframe worrying about what others think of us
  • Navigating guilt and allowing ourselves to move on
  • Taking responsibility for our own lives and navigating triggers with ease

Plus so much more.

Whilst Shadya doesn't have horses physically in her life everything we speak about is directly applicable to any area of our life including what we are doing with our horses. Because if we can become our happiest, most authentic versions of ourselves then that's when our horses truly shine.

26. Learning To Work With Young Horses Featuring Bec Plunkett08 Jul 202101:02:47

In this episode, I chat with my beautiful friend and former Confident Equestrian Program (CEP) student. Bec Plunkett.

Bec was the very first person to join CEP in April 2020 and initially came to me because she had 3 young horses that she wanted to work with but was worried about making mistakes.

So often people are told to just send their horse to a trainer (particularly with young horses) but I think if you are committed enough and willing to put in the time to learn and implement your skills then you can definitely work with young horses.

But...it is definitely a journey!

Listen in to hear about:

  • How Bec was introduced to horses and the main horses in her life
  • How she was feeling before she joined CEP and the doubts she had
  • The core lessons she learnt inside CEP and how she was able to view the horses differently
  • The shifts that she noticed in each of her horses including one very unexpected change in her older mare
  • What she has been able to achieve with the horses
  • Her future plans and how her goals have shifted

and so much more.

25. Teaching Horses True Self Carriage & The Importance Of Strengthening The Thoracic Sling With Celeste-Leilani Lazaris01 Jul 202101:15:57

In this episode, I chat with Celeste-Leilani Lazaris from The Travelling Horse Witch. Celeste heals both horses and humans using bodywork, breathwork and mindset - for more on this check out episode 11 of the podcast.

In our last podcast episode, Celeste touched on the importance of the thoracic sling and how releasing any nerve pain from this area and slowly teaching horses to carry themselves correctly is having a huge impact on the horses she is working on.

She has also shared many before and after posts and informational posts on her social media accounts which outlined how important this work is but it led me to ask her...ok this is great but how can we help our horses build up their front end?

Which brings me to this episode of the podcast! Together we have a conversation about traditional horse training and how the focus is predominately on the topline and the hindquarter which often fails to build up the chest and abdominals which is responsible for our horses being able to really carry themselves correctly.

Celeste talks about what the thoracic sling is, the findings she is seeing in the many horses she is working on, how we can start to really build our horses front end up and what our horses should feel like.

+ so much more

Aiyana completed my Confident Equestrian Program (CEP) in December 2020 and was kind enough to share her journey with horses and the honest results she has seen since incorporating more horsemanship into her routine.
