| The compelling case for renewables investment in Spain & Italy with Galileo’s Ingmar Wilhelm | 29 Jul 2026 | 00:39:34 | |
In the latest episode of Energy Transition Today, we sit down with Ingmar Wilhelm, co-founder and CEO of renewables IPP Galileo, to discuss the challenges and opportunities for clean energy technologies in Southern Europe. Wilhelm breaks down the events leading up to the blackout in Spain last year [2025] and how the market has responded since. He emphasises the importance of aligning energy generation with consumption profiles and why going the “hard route” in the near term will make developers more resilient for the future. He also addresses the fallout from the first MACSE auction in Italy and outlines why the perception of market attractiveness shifting is misguided. Wilhelm makes a case for renewables investment in Southern Europe amidst the market hype shifting to other countries in the CEE. | US chooses Venezuelan oil over domestic wind, Poland’s offshore and gas push, UK’s M&A run | 09 Jan 2026 | 00:30:59
For the first Energy Transition Today episode of the year, we summarise the goings on over the past few weeks, starting with the US military intervention in Venezuela. The Trump administration’s intervention in Venezuela accompanied by a soft pledge to exploit the country’s oil resources has cast doubts over US’ energy transition targets. This move, barely two days into the new year, follows additional restrictions on 6GW of offshore wind capacity that is currently under construction. On this side of the pond, there has been slow but steady progress within the renewables sector with Gresham Houses new storage acquisition, Equitix increasing its ownership of offshore transmission assets, among other green infra-assets, and the gradual inflow of winner announcements under NESO’s Gate 2 tender. Poland, on the other hand, has defied all odds and successfully concluded its first offshore wind auction late last month. The country also proceeded to log impressive progress on grid upgrade projects that will facilitate the influx of offshore wind generation in the future. In addition, Poland has been steadily adding more gas peaking capacity to its generation portfolio to plug the gap left by its aging coal fleet. This move has widespread backing including from commercial banks. | Death by a 1000 cuts: Ørsted share price plunge, Sumitomo offshore volte-face and France energy bill tug of war | 15 Aug 2025 | 00:34:18
In this week’s episode of Energy Transition Today, we unpack a turbulent period for offshore wind and renewable energy policy across the world. We begin with Orsted’s plan to raise nearly €8 billion to fund its US offshore wind projects after investor pullback and a 30% share price drop, as the company signals plans to scale back in the US. In Estonia, Sumitomo has withdrawn from a joint offshore wind venture in Estonia, citing unclear government support, which casts uncertainty over the project’s future. The Dutch government has also reshaped the 2 GW IJmuiden Ver Beta project, delaying its green hydrogen phase and splitting delivery into two stages. There’s better news from Romania, where the latest CfD auction awarded 2.75GW of onshore wind and solar with 15-year support. But in Poland, a presidential veto threat could block reforms to ease onshore wind restrictions. We close with France’s ongoing delay to its multi-annual energy program, which is stalling major offshore auctions. Across the board, renewable investment is increasingly caught in political crossfire, with shifting policies and investor caution shaping the sector’s trajectory.
