168 Cold-Case Christianity - J. Warner Wallace11 Dec 201900:56:35

In about 30 A.D., Jesus Christ was crucified. Three days later he rose from the dead. The only evidence? The recorded writings of his followers. Is it possible to solve this cold case nearly 2,000 years later and determine whether or not it’s true?

Kevin’s guest, J. Warner Wallace believes so. J. Warner Wallace is a Dateline featured cold-case homicide detective, popular national speaker and best-selling author. He continues to consult on cold-case investigations while serving as a Senior Fellow at the Colson Center for Christian Worldview. He is also an adjunct professor of apologetics at Biola University and a faculty member at Summit Ministries. J. Warner became a Christ-follower at the age of thirty-five after investigating the claims of the New Testament gospels using his skill set as a detective. He eventually earned a Master’s Degree in Theological Studies from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary.

J. Warner has appeared on television and radio, explaining the role that evidence plays in the Christian definition of “faith” and defending the historicity of Jesus, the reliability of the Bible and the truth of the Christian worldview. Jim also speaks at churches, retreats and camps as he seeks to help people become confident Christian case makers. J. Warner’s book, Cold-Case Christianity, provides readers with ten principles of cold case investigations and utilizes these principles to examine the reliability of the gospel eyewitness accounts. In God’s Crime Scene, he investigates eight pieces of evidence in the universe to make the case for God’s existence. In Forensic Faith, J. Warner makes the case for a more reasonable, evidential Christian faith.

If anyone can make a case for the reasonableness of Christianity, it is J. Warner Wallace. Tune in for a great episode and learn how a former atheist and cold case detective came to the conclusion that Jesus is for real.

165 Evolutionary Fraud - Dr. Jerry Bergman30 Oct 201900:49:08

Charles Darwin popularized the idea of Evolution with his theory on Natural Selection. Over the years scientists have put forth evidence in support of Evolution. One of these pieces of proof are vestigial organs. These are supposedly left over pieces from our Evolutionary past.

The appendix is often put forth as an example of a vestigial organ that has no purpose. However, recent research has shown that it acts as a “safe house” for beneficial bacteria that our gut needs to function.

Today on Educate For Life, Kevin has as his guest, Dr. Jerry Bergman. Jerry Bergman has taught biology, genetics, chemistry, biochemistry, anthropology, geology, and microbiology at Northwest State College in Archbold OH for over 25 years. He has 9 degrees, including 7 graduate (= ‘post-graduate’ in some non-US systems) degrees. Dr Bergman is a graduate of Medical College of Ohio, Wayne State University in Detroit, The University of Toledo, and Bowling Green State University. He has over 800 publications in 12 languages and 20 books and monographs. He has also taught at the Medical College of Ohio where he was a research associate in the department of experimental pathology, and he also taught 6 years at the University of Toledo, and 7 years at Bowing Green State University.

Among his books is a monograph on peer evaluation published by the College Student Journal Press, a Fastback on the creation-evolution controversy published by Phi Delta Kappa, a book on vestigial organs with Dr George Howe (‘Vestigial Organs’ are Fully Functional), a book on psychology and religious cults, a book on religious discrimination published by Onesimus Press, and a book on mental health published by Claudius Verlag in München. He has also published a college textbook on evaluation (Boston, Houghton Mifflin Co.), and has contributed to dozens of other textbooks. He was also a consultant for over 20 science text books, mostly biology and biochemistry.

Tune in to learn about irrefutable proof that evolution is not scientific. In fact, he knows many people who have come to Christianity through the study of science. You don’t want to miss this.

160 Replacing Darwin - Dr. Nathaniel Jeanson06 Sep 201900:53:30

Charles Darwin’s On the Origin of Species is considered one of history’s most influential books and has become the foundation of evolutionary biology. But what if Darwin was looking at the same evidence today using modern science; would his conclusions be the same?

Today on Educate For Life, Kevin’s guest is Dr. Nathaniel Jeanson. Dr. Nathaniel Jeanson holds a PhD in cell and developmental biology from Harvard University. He serves as a research biologist, author, and speaker with Answers in Genesis and formerly conducted research with the Institute for Creation Research.

Dr. Jeanson will describe for you how Darwin’s theory is falling apart and the tide is turning toward Creation Science. One common objection against Creation Science is that it doesn’t make any predictions. Not only is that objection false, the predictions that are being made are coming true. Dr. Jeanson lists several predictions in his book, “Replacing Darwin”. He continues to work on research that continues to prove those predictions.

159 Raising Emotionally Strong Kids - Brooks Gibbs04 Sep 201900:46:09

In today’s world, aggression seems to be at an all time high. It seems like everyone is offended by practically everything. In order to fit in, you got to be woke and speak your truth and shout down anyone who opposes you. However, this strategy doesn’t work in any kind of human relationship or any kind of real world situation. If you're a parent, raising kids in this kind of environment is daunting. The solution is to raise your kids to be emotionally resilient.

Today on Educate For Life, Kevin’s guest is Brooks Gibbs. Brooks Gibbs is an award-winning social skills educator. He is a popular youth speaker who's presented 2,500 speeches. His viral videos have been translated into 20 languages and amassed more than 200 million views. He specializes in teaching youth how to be emotionally resilient and inspires them to live by the Golden Rule.

Brooks teaches students two basic principles:

• Don’t get upset (Emotional Resilience)

• Treat them like a friend (The Golden Rule)

Most youth aggression is non-criminal and consists of name calling, social exclusion, rumors, etc. These behaviors are inevitable between siblings at home and peers at school. Despite the pettiness of these behaviors, they can do tremendous emotional harm to a student. Brooks teaches students how to protect their emotions from the effects of these behaviors through emotional resilience.  He also communicates the genius of The Golden Rule. This social instruction teaches students how to make friends and also manage their perceived enemies. The Golden Rule takes advantage of the law of reciprocity, and as students learn to treat others as friends, this positive behavior becomes the social norm.

158 What Are the Nephilim? - Tim Chaffey13 Aug 201900:46:53

Nephilim are mentioned three times in the Bible. There is a lot of mystery surrounding who or what they were. Some theories claim that they are aliens. They point to the root word in Hebrew which means “fallen one” meaning they fell from the sky. However, that may not be accurate. The true root word may be an Aramaic term that simply means “giant”.

Today on Educate For Life, Kevin has as his guest Tim Chaffey. Tim Chaffey has written the book, literally, on the subject. It is called “Fallen: The Sons of God and the Nephilim”. Genesis 6 introduces two of the most mysterious groups in all of Scripture: the sons of God and the Nephilim (or giants). Scholars have been divided over this issue since the early days of the church. Were the sons of God really fallen angels that married women or were they something else? Were the Nephilim the offspring of the unions between the sons of God and women or were they already around prior to these marriages? Why were they on the earth again after the Flood?

Find out the truth about two of the greatest mysteries in Scripture as Tim clears up the misconceptions and presents one of the most detailed and scholarly studies ever done on this subject. You may never look at the Old Testament the same way again.

Tune in for a great episode that unpacks a biblical mystery and sheds light on the subject. If you want to learn more, check out http://midwestapologetics.org.

157 How Kinds (Not Species) Originated - Pastor Andrew Rappaport and Dr. Anthony Silvestro11 Aug 201900:48:41

Today on Educate For Life, Kevin has two great guests to discuss the interesting connection between science and ministry. How do you get a scientist and a pastor to team up?

Dr. Anthony Silvestro grew up in a Roman Catholic family. His love for science began at an early age. Throughout his early years of education, he excelled in both mathematics and science. As a result, the secular world accomplished its goal: he became an evolutionist by the time he completed his ninth-grade biology class. This became the start of his fast-paced drift away from God. Years later after meeting his wife Julie, who was also raised Roman Catholic, God got ahold of Dr. Silvestro. On a trip to a medical conference he visited the Creation Museum and discovered that he needed to rethink everything he thought he knew about evolution. Today, he is a creationist working with churches to equip them to defend a biblical worldview.

Andrew Rappaport is the founder and president of Striving for Eternity Ministries and the executive director of the Christian Podcast Community. He is the host of several podcasts; Andrew Rappaport's Rapp Report, Andrew Rappaport's Rapp Report Daily, Apologetics Live,  and So You Want to be a Podcaster. Andrew is the author of the books  What Do They Believe, which is a systematic theology of the major western religions, and What Do We Believe, which is a systematic theology of the Christian faith. He also contributed to other books like On the Origins of Kinds and Sharing the Good News with Mormons. Andrew established Equip Conferences (formally Spread the Fire), evangelism training and outreach events. He is the instructor for the Striving for Eternity Academy, an online school that teaches hermeneutics and systematic theology.

156 How a New Ager Became a Christian - Pastor Strat Goodhue26 Jul 201900:43:12

Imagine you are a young kid and you start having out of body experiences. You travel the world and visit people you’ve never known. You talk to spirits both human and animal. Some of you might be freaked out and some of you might be thinking that would be pretty cool. This has been the real life experience of Strat Goodhue as part of the New Age movement.

Strat Goodhue was born and raised in Hawaii. He graduated from Kalaheo High School in Kailua, and went to college in Hawaii and California. He didn't have any real goals in life, and being a product of the public school system, he believed that people evolved by random chance from primordial goo and he didn't think life had meaning or purpose. His life was radically changed at the age of 30, when he entered into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Strat is currently pastoring a Calvary Chapel church plant in Renton, Washington. Tune in for a powerful episode exploring the New Age movement and the spirit realm. If you want to find out more about Strat Goodhue and his experiences, check out https://howtoknowthewillofgod.com.

153 How to Combat Anxiety - Dr. Esther Yi11 May 201900:46:30

Anxiety is on the rise. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults in the United States age 18 and older, or 18.1% of the population every year. Anxiety disorders develop from a complex set of risk factors, including genetics, brain chemistry, personality, and life events. 152 How An Atheist Became a Christian - Mary Jo Sharp07 May 201900:47:41

“Religion is for the weak minded.” That is the mindset among many who are non-religious or atheist. Kevin’s guest, Mary Jo Sharp, thought exactly that. But then she discovered otherwise. How does that happen?

Mary Jo is a former atheist from the Pacific Northwest, who thought religion was odd at best. But then she went looking for answers to her questions and she found the answers in the Bible.

She now holds a Masters in Christian Apologetics and is an assistant professor of apologetics at Houston Baptist University. Several years ago, a friend asked her,”Why would a woman want to go to a session on apologetics?” Her question hit me like a load of bricks. She was so excited about finding answers to her doubts that she had never considered there was a lack of women in this field (or, as the question implies, a lack of interest from women). She came to discover, however, it is not so much a lack of interest as it is a lack of acquaintance.

She finds that apologetics serves us in three ways: it answers doubts, builds confidence and changes our lives. Apologetics is a field that handles the difficult questions people have regarding belief in God. Some of those questions include: 1) How can anyone say God is good, when there is so much evil in the world? 2) How do I know that Jesus rose from the dead? 3) Why should I trust the Bible? and 3) How do I know God exists? Unanswered questions may eventually lead to doubt. Those doubts, after festering for many years, can lead a person to live a defeated life; one that lacks the power of the Lord Jesus Christ. Further, a person cannot reasonably trust God if they do not know whether or not He exists: in bigger things such as salvation, or even in smaller things found in daily living. Yet, when a person begins to answer their doubts those answers can build their confidence in what they believe. As a person gains confidence in their faith, that confidence can begin to change their lives.

151 How Rome Fell - Professor Edward Watts07 May 201900:47:00

In 509 BC, the Roman Republic was born. The Romans established a republic, a government in which citizens elected representatives to rule on their behalf. A republic is quite different from a democracy, in which every citizen is expected to play an active role in governing the state. This is the governmental model America’s Founding Fathers chose to emulate.

Because of the close similarities between Rome and America some use it as a model to predict what the fate of America may be. Is America fated to fall and repeat the same mistakes as those of the Roman Republic? Here today on Educate For Life, Kevin has as his guest Professor Edward Watts.

Professor Watts received his PhD in History from Yale University in 2002. His research interests center on the intellectual and religious history of the Roman Empire and the early Byzantine Empire. His first book, City and School in Late Antique Athens and Alexandria (University of California Press, 2006), explains how the increasingly Christian upper class of the late antique world used a combination of economic and political pressures to neutralize pagan elements of the traditional educational system.

His second book, Riot in Alexandria: Historical Debate in Pagan and Christian Communities (University of California Press, 2010), uses Greek, Latin, Coptic, and Syriac sources to reconstruct an Alexandrian riot that erupted in 486 AD. Riot received a 2010 PROSE Award Honorable Mention in Classics and Ancient History. His third book, The Final Pagan Generation (University of California Press, 2015) offers a generational history of the men born in the 310s that traces the experience of living through the fourth century’s dramatic religious and political changes. It was awarded the 2015 Phi Alpha Theta Best Subsequent Book Prize. His fourth book, Hypatia: The Life and Legend of an Ancient Philosopher (Oxford University Press, 2017) recounts the life of an important female philosopher whose work redefined philosophy and whose death resonated as a symbol of dramatic religious and social change in the early fifth century. He is also the author of Mortal Republic: How Rome Fell into Tyranny (Basic Books, 2018).

150 How to Reach Muslims For Christ - Pastor George Saieg08 Apr 201900:52:12

Recently in the news there has been the story of the ISIS bride. Hoda Muthana left Alabama at the age of 19 to join ISIS of her own free will. Now she wants to come home, with her young son, but whether she will be able to get back into the United States is completely out of her hands.

Muthana, now 24, insists she has the right to come back, and she's pleading for a second chance. The Trump administration, however, does not consider her a U.S. citizen.

So, should she be allowed to return to the US? Here today on Educate For Life is Pastor George Saieg to provide a unique perspective on this story.Born and raised in Sudan Pastor George Saieg is all too familiar with Islam. Now the founder and director of Ministry to Muslims, his lifelong experiences with Islam have given him a burden to reach Muslims with  the truth of the Gospel.

God revived Saieg’s passion in 2001, with a vision. While Saieg stood in a shopping center parking lot in Southern California, he envisioned a tent over flowing with Muslims that needed to hear the truth. Saieg immediately asked the parking lot owner for some space to hold a book fair. The man granted his request and went a step further – he provided a location for an Arabic Christian bookstore.

Just a few weeks later the attack on 9/11 occurred and George realized his calling to expose Islam’s deceptive teachings while also mobilizing American Christians to reach out to their Muslim neighbors. Soon after, he began a Weekly Outreach to Islamic Centers and has been training Christians to share their faith ever since. God has given George a platform speaking in churches and at conferences all across the US. In 2006,  George was ordained as a pastor.

149 How School Unions Bully Teachers - Rebecca Friedricks05 Apr 201900:48:30

Teachers in America are under attack by the very organization that was set up to protect them. There are stories nation wide of teachers who have been harassed and intimidated by the Teachers Unions. But now that the Janus Case has passed, those teachers now have the freedom to leave the union but still many do not.

Here on Educate For Life today Kevin has as his guest Rebecca Friedricks to help break it all down and explain what is actually going on. Rebecca Friedrichs has been an elementary school educator in Southern California for 28 years.  Since the first day of her career in 1988, she’s been concerned about the policies and politics of the teachers’ union she’s forced to financially support.

Although she “opted out” of the political dues for the first ten years of her career, she later joined as a full member in order to gain a voice because “agency fee payers” lose all rights of membership, including the right to voice their opinions and vote within collective bargaining.

She served on her local union board for three years with hopes that union representatives would listen to common sense and reason in order to bring about positive change in her district and in union expenditures of members’ dues.  She discovered that many union representatives agreed with her concerns, but to her disappointment, she was unable to make any positive impact because even the union representatives were afraid to speak up to union bosses.  Rebecca knows from personal experience that even union representatives have no real voice in union policies, and are bullied and silenced if they dare to question the unions’ narrow views.

147 How the Sexual Revolution Has Changed Schools - Dr. Judith Reisman02 Apr 201900:53:59

Ever think that sex education has a link directly to abortion? In the words of Planned Parenthood, “[We must] be ready as educators and parents to help young people obtain sex satisfaction before marriage . . .and we must be ready to provide young boys and girls with the best contraception measures available so they will have the necessary means to achieve sexual satisfaction without having to risk possible pregnancy.”

Today on Educate For Life, Kevin has as his guest Dr. Judith Reisman to illuminate the growing problem with abortion and sexual education. As a researcher and author, historian and teacher, Judith Reisman has focused on pornography as a pandemic, addicting men, women and children and upon exposing Dr. Alfred C. Kinsey's fraudulent sex science research and education.

Dr. Kinsey is considered one of the pioneers of the sexual revolution. 144 Is Classical Conversations The Best Homeschool Platform? - Christina Robinson and Julie Friesen01 Mar 201900:45:06

Homeschooling is gaining popularity. Among many the reasons why parents choose to homeschool their kids are crowded classes and a decrease in the quality of education from public schools. But what if you’re not a teacher? That’s where homeschool platforms come in.

Today on Educate For Life Kevin has as his guests Christina Robinson and Julie Friesen. They are both involved with Classical Conversations Homeschooling. They are a Christian centered homeschooling program. The purpose of Classical Conversations® is to lead the home-centered education movement by teaching parents and students the classical tools of learning so that they can discover God’s created order and beauty— and as a result— enable others to do the same.

Classical Conversations fulfills its mission and purpose by establishing and supporting Classical Conversations communities across the United States and in several countries, and by empowering parents in the classical, Christian teaching of their children through Parent Practicums. They enable parents everywhere to equip their children with a Christ-centered worldview and the classical “tools of learning” in order to impact the world for God’s glory.

143 How Can New York Condemn The Unborn to Death?23 Feb 201900:49:38

Recently, in New York, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed into law a bill that legalizes abortion up to nine months. How did we get to a point in this country where this is acceptable? The very definition of being a human has been changed.

What is the difference between a fetus 2 days before birth and a baby 2 days after birth? Virtually nothing except for location. If a baby is inside the womb it is legal to kill it but after birth, it is considered infanticide. Does size, level of development, environment, or degree of dependency (SLED test) change the value of a life? Today on Educate For Life Kevin will make the argument that none of these things change the value of the life of an unborn child.

132 How To Know America Is a Christian Nation28 Sep 201800:49:43

Is America a Christian Nation? Is it different from any other country in the world? In today’s culture, these two questions are being hotly debated. Today on Educate For Life Kevin will dig into some facts that will help you answer these questions.

Brazil has had 7 Constitutions since 1822. Poland has had 6 constitutions since 1921. Afghanistan has had 5 constitutions since 1923. Russia has had 4 constitutions since 1918. France is currently on its 15th constitution. America has used the same Constitution for over 200 years. That is more than any other nation on earth. Why is that? Could it possibly be because it contains Biblical principles that make it exceptional strong?

A majority of the founding fathers believed in the Bible. When framing the Constitution they quoted and referenced the Bible and other writings that also referenced the Bible. One of the most reference writings for the Constitution was “The Two Treatises of Government” by John Locke. In that document, he references the Bible an astounding 1500 times!

129 Helping the Homeless – Pastor Harold Brown, Luke Gibson, Steven Roberts04 May 201800:59:02

Today on Educate For Life, Kevin has as guests Pastor Howard Brown, Luke Gibson and Steven Roberts. Pastor Howard is with the East County Transitional Living Center. The East County Transitional Living Center helps the homeless living on the street get back into life by helping them beat addictions and overcome difficult life situations. Steve has been through the program and will share his amazing journey and testimony. Luke Gibson is a business owner who helps ECTLC by hiring people in the program and giving them valuable work experience.

The story began over 15 years ago as a group of businessmen and a small church began to transform not only an old motel but thousands of homeless men, women, and children. Many of the larger churches in the county, the Southern Baptist Association and the City of El Cajon all came together to develop one of the most successful transitional living centers in the country.

The story continues as you now consider becoming a part of providing an additional 40 rooms for homeless families. Today in San Diego County hundreds of families are sleeping in their cars and are waiting for a room to open so that they too would experience the transformational change that is offered here at ECTLC. Join them and become a part of that story by donating your time, talent and or treasure to this great work that is happening right here in San Diego. ECTLC plans to expand its outreach by building two dormitory style building and remodeling 40 of its existing rooms opening the door for 40 to 50 new families and possibly 100 children. No child in the USA should have to sleep in a car or under an overpass. Won’t you help them to provide a hand up and guidance back into safe and healthy living conditions? Your donation no matter how large or small will help us to achieve our goals this year.

128 Should Teachers Be Forced to Pay Union Dues? – David Schmus02 May 201800:56:17

Would you donate to a cause that you don’t believe in? What if you were forced to support a cause because you were part of a certain organization? If you are a teacher, you are likely a member of a union. Even if you’re not in a union, you generally still have to pay dues to a union. If you are a conservative and/or a Christian, your dues are likely being used for causes you do not support. But, there is a Supreme Court case that may soon change that.

Today on Educate for Life, Kevin will speak with David Schmus. David has been involved in public schools for over 15 years, both as a high school AP US History/Government teacher and as a Christian Club adviser. He has been repeatedly honored as Most Inspirational Teacher. David and his wife Elizabeth have been married since 1992 and have 3 daughters. He holds an M.A. in Biblical Studies and Theology from Biola University, taught Biblical Worldview classes as an adjunct professor for 14 years, and was recently a featured speaker for the Talbot School of Theology Chapel Series. Now on staff full-time with CEAI as Executive Director, David is passionate about coming alongside Christian educators to provide them with resources and encouragement to enable them to walk out their calling.

David will also talk about Janus v. AFSCME, a Supreme Court case concerned with freeing public school educators from forced unionism. Many expect the case will be resolved in favor of Mark Janus when the ruling is announced in June. If the court does rule favorably, public employees will have the option to join a union, another professional association like CEAI, or nothing at all. We encourage you to get the facts and pray about this important decision. It is important to note that CEAI is not anti-union, but are opposed to forced union membership. If you feel God is leading you to remain a member of your union, then do that. However, if you are a teacher and feel God is leading you to seek other options, then CEAI encourages you to allow them to serve you by becoming a member of their association.

Tune in for a very informative episode. If you are a teacher or know someone who is a teacher, you can find great resources and information at their website: https://ceai.org/.

126 Young Life – Tobias Haglund and Kristi Fox18 Apr 201800:59:20

Today on Educate For Life Kevin has as guests, Tobias Haglund and Kristi Fox. Tobias and Kristi are with Young Life a Christian Youth Ministry. Young Life is a group of caring adults who go where kids are, win the right to be heard and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them.

The vision began in the early 1930s when an elderly woman, Clara Frasher, recruited a group of her friends to pray for the teenagers attending Gainesville High School in Texas. Six years later, during the spring of 1939, a young seminarian, Jim Rayburn, started a chapter of the Miracle Book Club in Gainesville, Texas, a small town 75 miles to the north of Dallas. As he was developing the program in Gainesville, Rayburn also worked with a local pastor, Clyde Kennedy.

Today, the Young Life mission is still committed to incarnational witness: embodying and expressing the love of Christ through relationships with all kinds of kids: WyldLife is our outreach to middle school kids, Young Life for those in their high school years, and Young Life College is our program for college and university students. In addition to the ministries mentioned above, Young Life reaches military teens through a program called Club Beyond, the Small Towns/Rural initiative brings Young Life to communities of fewer than 25,000 people, and Amicus is Young Life’s student exchange and hosting program for international kids.

Tune in to hear more about Young Life and their incredible ministry and how they are changing lives one kid at a time. If you want to explore more, head over to https://www.younglife.org.
