On a Monday morning in August, I sat quietly in Erzebet Ter and recorded some sounds.

It's mostly general hubbub from a European city but the park gives some separation from the traffic and delivery drivers.
I was on a bit of a sound recording mission so there's a few more to come from this walk around Central Budapest.

All summer the House of Music has been putting on free shows on their intimate outdoor stage and this is a couple of snippets from artists Lil404 and Zse.

Some more quality hubbub…only this time from Wien, Austria.

Sat in Stephansplatz next to St Stephen’s Cathedral. I recorded earlier in the day but there was not a lot going on and an annoying breeze buffeting the binaural microphones. (I managed to lose one of the wind protection covers in Italy)

Returned later that day and the wind had dropped and the commotion risen so here’s some more awesome sounds from a city square.

Waiting for a train to Tatabanya at Budapest-Deli station.

It was pretty early so I’m sure the hustle and bustle and get more hustley and bustley but these are snapshots of what was going on while I was there. I may go back to get some peak hubbub.

Lake Bled is a beautiful spot in foothills of the Slovenian Mountains but the town of Bled was rather busy on a Saturday in July, so after an expedition to Vintgar Gorge, we cooled off with a swim at the other end of the lake, Bled Jezero.

While the family popped to the supermarket on the corner, I sat in Kongressni Trg and listened to the world passing by.

It was a quiet Friday afternoon and very hot and the whole place just had a really relaxed and chilled vibe which I enjoyed very much.

While searching for a spot for a dirtbag picnic in Venice back in July, we stumbled upon the Giardini della Biennale.

While the kids were eating fancy bread and a bit of cheap cheese I wandered off to capture the sounds of boats, seagulls and cicadas.

A stroll down Via le Venti Settembre, Trieste after a huge downpour had sent many diners scurrying inside and caused the cancellation of a free jazz show I was hoping to record.

Hopefully this recording shows a little of the remaining energy from what was a really vibrant street…even if it was a little damp.

Recorded during a day trip to Venice.

While travelling earlier this summer we decided to take a train to Venice for my daughter’s birthday. This recording is the general sounds and multi-national hubbub of the Piazza San Marco.

Fortunately, not all of Venice was this busy and we managed to find some wonderful moments of quiet down some back alleys and areas a little further away from the main attractions.

I’ve never heard Cicadas* as loud as those in Zadar earlier this summer so I got the recorder out and grabbed a snapshot of the cacophony.This wasn’t just an evening thing though….all. day. long. If there was a tree, it was singing. This snippet was made on the side of the road on the way back to our apartment after recording the sea organ

*may not actually be Cicadas but close enough.

The sound of the sea through the Sea Organ of Zadar, Croatia

The Sea organ  is an architectural sound art object located in Zadar,  Croatia which plays music by way of waves passing through tubes located underneath a set of large marble steps.

Chaotic reconstruction work was undertaken to repair the devastation Zadar suffered in the Second World War The frantic reconstruction turned much of the sea front into an unbroken, monotonous concrete wall.

The device was made by the architect Nikola Bašić as part of the project to redesign the new city coast (Nova rive) and the site was opened to the public on 15 April 2005. 

In 2006, the Sea Organ was awarded with the prize ex-aequo of the fourth edition of the European Prize for Urban Public Space.

I took a wander around my local food emporium with my binaural microphones in my ears. Maybe commit to both earbuds for this one.

Sitting by a campfire at a Saxon Roundhouse on the Llyn Peninsula, North Wales while the sun begins to set, listening to crackles and birdsong in equal measure.

Some background shenanigans may be detected...it's just kids exploring the woods
