| #125. Proverbs 31 for Exhausted Moms: Why It Should Encourage You, Not Feel Like an Impossible Checklist | 23 Jun 2026 | 00:14:46 | |
*This episode is longer because we need to meditate on the countercultural traits that God values in us as women! In this final episode of our study through Proverbs, we explore the wisdom of Proverbs 30–31 and discover that God's vision for a godly woman is far more encouraging than an impossible checklist. Many women approach Proverbs 31 feeling discouraged, overwhelmed, or convinced they're falling short. But what if this chapter isn't meant to crush us? What if it's actually a celebration of the strength, wisdom, diligence, and influence God has given women? Join Stephanie Hickox as we walk through the closing chapters of Proverbs, examining Agur's humble prayer for daily dependence on God, King Lemuel's mother's warnings about temptation and leadership, and the famous portrait of the Proverbs 31 woman. Together we'll see how Scripture calls us to faithfulness, wisdom, generosity, kindness, and above all, the fear of the Lord. Whether you're a busy mom, a wife, a mentor, or simply a woman seeking to follow Christ, this episode offers biblical encouragement to help you view your daily work through God's eyes. In This Episode:
Key Scriptures:
Key Takeaway: The Proverbs 31 woman is not presented as an exhausting to-do list but as a beautiful picture of a life shaped by the fear of the Lord. Her strength, wisdom, generosity, diligence, and kindness flow from a heart that trusts God. As believers, our goal is not perfection but faithful dependence on Christ, who is at work in us day by day. Giveaway closes: Saturday, June 20, 2026 Winner announced: Monday, June 22, 2026 What happens when someone blessed with extraordinary wisdom slowly compromises their devotion to God? In this episode of The Dwelling Place, we study 1 Kings 10–11 and 2 Chronicles 9, exploring the visit of the Queen of Sheba, Solomon's incredible wealth, and the heartbreaking decline of a king who knew God's commands yet chose a different path. We examine why the Queen of Sheba traveled so far to see Solomon, how her response points beyond human wisdom to the glory of God, and why Jesus later used her as an example of genuine spiritual hunger. As Solomon accumulates the very things God warned Israel's kings against—gold, horses, and wives—we see the devastating consequences of small compromises. His story serves as a sobering reminder that wisdom alone is not enough. We need hearts that remain wholly devoted to the Lord. We'll also wrestle with an important question for parents: Is anger always sinful? Looking at God's response to Solomon's rebellion, we discover that anger is not necessarily the opposite of love. Often, righteous anger reveals how deeply we care about God's ways and the spiritual well-being of those we love. Whether you're studying the Bible, raising children, or simply seeking to guard your own heart, this passage offers both warning and hope as it points us back to our faithful Savior. In This Episode
Key Scriptures
Key Takeaway Solomon's life reminds us that knowledge and wisdom are not enough to keep us faithful. The greatest dangers often come through small compromises that slowly pull our hearts away from God. Yet the Lord graciously calls us to guard our hearts, repent quickly, and remain wholly devoted to Him. Giveaway closes: Saturday, June 20, 2026 Winner announced: Monday, June 22, 2026 In this episode of The Dwelling Place Podcast, Stephanie Hickox walks through Proverbs 17–20, uncovering practical wisdom for Christian moms who desire to raise children in the fear of the Lord and build homes marked by grace, self-control, and biblical truth. One theme rises above the rest: the power of our words. Solomon repeatedly reminds us that our speech can bring life or destruction, strengthen relationships or create conflict, and reveal the true condition of our hearts. As parents, wives, and disciples of Christ, our words matter deeply. Stephanie shares memorable illustrations that can help children understand why Scripture calls us to be slow to speak and quick to listen. You'll also discover biblical encouragement for navigating sibling conflicts, cultivating strong family relationships, pursuing heart-level discipleship, and helping children develop wisdom that lasts a lifetime. Most importantly, this episode points us to Jesus—the perfect source of wisdom—who always knew when to speak, when to remain silent, when to offer correction, and when to extend compassion. Whether you're studying Proverbs, seeking biblical parenting encouragement, or longing to grow in self-control and wisdom, this episode will equip you to apply God's Word in everyday family life. | #25. Exodus 10-13 | Specific, Yet Unspecific Directions | 03 Feb 2026 | 00:09:52
I know I've had to talk fast recently to get everything in, but I slow down just a little bit as we prepare to leave Egypt with the Israelites. It's a solemn exit and full of grieving for all who did not heed the word of the LORD. God gives specific instructions for honoring the Passover, but there are certainly things left unsaid. If you are in a season of waiting on God for guidance, be encouraged that you just may have what He wants you to have right now. In Exodus 7-9, we see a curious tension as we're told that God will harden Pharaoh's heart, but we're also told that Pharaoh hardens his own heart. Which is it? As usual, we'll look to the rest of God's Word to give us clarity... and even when it is hard to understand, we will trust that His ways are higher than ours. We're not coming to the Word to confirm our view of God, we are coming to learn more about who He truly is. And He could not be more worthy of our worship. Did you get our February Reading Plan? | #102. 1 Chronicles 23-24, Psalm 108, 109, 110 | The Priest King Who Will Reign Forever | 21 May 2026 | 00:09:59
First, we'll watch a king establish the priestly duties, then we'll reflect on how we righteously handle our anger, And then we'll conclude with the only king who was also a warrior and a priest. In the last episode, David brought an abundance of gold and silver And much of what Solomon would need to build a dwelling place for the Lord. It wouldn't just be a tent anymore. God was allowing Solomon to build him a temple. If you're a student of history, you know that we can't really call this a permanent dwelling place, but it would be much more secure than a tent. At first glance, these chapters and chronicles might make you feel, " Oh, no, are we diving back into genealogies again?" But they're actually revealing a strength of David's that's often not noticed... Today, our Bible reading plan covers 2 Samuel 24, 1 Chronicles 21-22, and then Psalms 30, 97-99. We'll see a loving parent setting their child up to worship the Lord. We'll also have confirmation that though His anger is for a moment, God's favor is for a lifetime. How clearly is that displayed in the life of David?! Our first narrative for today displays one of the most controversial differences in scripture, but it's by no means a discrepancy! See this article from "Desiring God" for more clarity.
