Jodi and @mikewindyart have been trying for awhile to get another conversation recorded including an attempt when the wifi at mikewindy's just wouldn't cooperate. A few weeks back we finally got an hour for a "short" episode where we still covered a lot of ground. Having to rethink the story(at least that mikewindy) we tell ourselves, being teachable vs. unteachable, and so much more. @mikewindyart recently had an inspiring 3+ hour conversation with the incredibly talented Sam Dunson, an Atlanta/Nashville-based artist and professor at Tennessee State University.

Sam shared why he no longer paints on canvas, revealing how his teaching practice has shaped this decision. His "100 Works for 100 Books" project is nothing short of amazing, showcasing his dedication to building and investing in his artistic ecosystem

In this conversation we talk a lot about language and Danielle's delving into language in her creative practice that includes hand lettering and social practice strategies. We also dive into the project she is working on in her MFA program which may or may not have her visiting every Kroger in the southeastern US. She also talks about her company and the grad degree level of knowledge she gained from seeking a patent as well as the grief of when projects don't turn out the way we want them to. I didn't know Alvaro before this conversation. I have only admired his incredible water color/drawings on Instagram.

It was a really awesome conversation and he talks beautifully about the ways in which his advertising career is different than his art making and ways in which these adjacent practices also intersect. We talk about all sorts of things but an exciting piece is the Brazilian skateboarding scene in the mid 1980's. I'm so grateful that Pat took the time to talk with me for a few hours about his photography practice. It was so wonderful to hear how he dealt with coming to the work of great photographers before him by letting it blow his mind but not blow away his curiosity and interest in making images. I was fascinated to find out that he curated one of the first exhibits ever of Vivian Maier's photography at Wilco's Solid Sound Festival.
