Episode 202: Free Play29 juil. 2026
You know it by now: it's our annual Free Play episode where we talk about anything and everything related to video games. What do we have this time? Listen in and find out!

Episode 201: And AWii We Go!14 juil. 2026

Seeking very much to reverse its fortunes after the flop that was the GameCube, Nintendo decided to focus its attention on gaming experiences rather than the raw power that Sony and Microsoft were providing with their own contributions. And that renewed focus led to one of the greatest-selling consoles of all time. We look back with fond nostalgia to the Nintendo Wii, released twenty years ago this year.

Episode 200: Level 20026 mai 2026

In January 2011, the first episode of this very fine sophisticated programme was released to the world. Fifteen years later and 199 more episodes later, DLC is still going strong and doesn't intend on stopping anytime soon. Listen in as we do a retrospective celebrating these two milestones, and thank you so much for being part of the journey.

Episode 199: Beyond the Credits23 avr. 2026

The idea of post-game content is nothing new. For as long as video games have existed, developers have tried to find ways to keep you engaged with a game for as long as possible, including having more game after the credits. But what was once a bit of a novelty has now become the norm, even expected. We take a look at why that is, and also talk some of our favorite bits of post-game content from games we've played.

Episode 198: Like A Warm Blanket24 févr. 2026

Video games have always been a way for us to escape reality, but with the events of the last decade such as COVID, terrible government, and global calamity, the need for escape is higher than ever. Enter the cozy and wholesome game: relaxing, low-stakes, low or no combat, and an excellent way to unwind and de-stress from our current timeline. We talk about a bunch of them on this episode

Episode 197: For the Fun of It30 janv. 2026

On our first episode of 2026: it seems pretty obvious as to why we play video games, but in this age of being hyper-critical of every piece of media we consume, it feels in some ways that we’ve in some ways lost why we play these in the first place – to simply have fun. We talk about some possible reasons about why we're compelled to be so critical and encouraged to fire off a hot take, then follow up with several games that we play purely for fun.

Episode 196: The Rise, Fall, and Resurrection of Game Informer15 déc. 2025

On the final episode of 2025, we talk about the rise, fall, undignified death, and resurrection of what's now the only print video game magazine left in the United States: Game Informer.

Episode 195: One & Done15 déc. 2025

What games have you only ever beaten once and never returned to? On this episode, we examine our own personal one-and-dones, games that once we finished, for whatever reason, we decided never to return to.

Episode 194: To the Far Horizon22 oct. 2025

Usually when we talk about a game or franchise on DLC, it's associated with an anniversary milestone. Rarely do we devote an episode to a game simply because it's awesome and we just want to be rabid fans. So, we do just that with the two main games in the Horizon franchise: Zero Dawn and Forbidden West.

Episode 193: Free Play15 sept. 2025

It's a tradition on DLC to have at least one episode each season devoted to just an open discussion on anything related to video games, and on this episode, the three of us talk about the feeling of playing a video game too late, old games currently being played, and the loss of dedicated exclusive handheld consoles now that we have things like the Switch and Steam Deck.

Episode 192: The Industry Needs An Intervention13 août 2025

It's not a theory or trend anymore: the video game industry is broken. From tens of thousands of layoffs, to AI slop, to focusing on money above all else, it's clear that the industry needs some correction. But how? EDGE Magazine asked a bunch of their industry contacts and published some two dozen or so replies in their February 2025 issue. We go through some of those and give our own opinions

Episode 191: A History of Trans Representation24 juin 2025

In celebration of Pride, Veronica takes the helm as guest host of DLC and gives us an overview of trans representation in video games, starting back to the classics and bringing us up to modern gaming. You might learn a thing or two! Ep 191

It's all music on this one! On this episode, guest-hosted by Spencer, each member of the panel highlights a favorite video game composer and talks about the effects their music has left on them. This episode went long, so it's being broken up into two halves. On the first half, we highlight Yoko Shimomura, Toby Fox, the Capcom Sound Team, Ryo Nagamatsu, Takeharu Ishimoto, and Widdly 2 Diddly. Ep 190A

Episode 189: Xbox 360, Twenty Years On07 avr. 2025

In 2005, Microsoft launched their second console, the Xbox 360. It proved to be a runaway success, finally establishing them as a major player in the console game. Boasting PC-like graphics, a robust online network, and massive third-party and indie support, it was a must-have system. We look back on its legacy here. Ep 189

Episode 188: Ashley Needs Saving Again03 sept. 2024

For the first time in two years, DLC records an episode! It's been a hot minute! On this episode, we talk about the Resident Evil 4 remake and give our thoughts and experiences playing this compared to the original Gamecube classic. Ep 188

We shine a spotlight on a genre of video game that has old roots, but has found a second life in the indie scene: the classic Metroidvania. From its beginnings with Metroid and Castlevania to new classics like Hollow Knight, Ori, and Bloodstained, we find that there's still a desire for these kinds of games. What are some of your favorites? Ep S11E4

On our 8th episode of DLC, we did our very first retrospective episode, talking about Sonic the Hedgehog as the franchise turned 20. It seems only fitting that as DLC nears its end, we do our final retrospective on our favorite speedy blue mascot and see what he's been up to as he turns 30. Ep S10E13

Episode S10E12: A Tribute to the 3DS06 janv. 2021

It's an undisputed fact that Nintendo is king of the handheld consoles. On this episode, we take a fond look at the Nintendo 3DS, a plucky little handheld that stumbled out of the gate in 2011 but ultimately became well-loved in its own right well before it was discontinued in September 2020. Ep S10E12

Episode S10E7A: A Realm Resurrected, Part 112 août 2020

It's been 10 years since Final Fantasy XIV launched, its second major MMO in the flagship franchise. It wasn't without its problems, though, and opened to such dismal reviews, forcing Square Enix to shut it down and go back to the drawing board. Episode S10E5A: From Virus to Plagas (Part 1)19 mai 2020

It is without question that Resident Evil 4 marked a drastic change for the franchise, dropping its formula of puzzle solving, conserving ammo, and Raccoon City, shedding many of its own created survival horror tropes. Fifteen years later, we take a look back and revisit this divisive game. Turns out we had a lot to say, so here is Part 1. Ep S10E5A

Episode S10E2: The PS2 Isn't A Teen Anymore03 mars 2020
Twenty years ago, the Playstation 2 was released, boasting full backwards compatibility with the entire PS1 library, and a DVD player to boot, marking the first major console to make a serious push at being a multi-functional entertainment center. Episode S9E10: Dancing Mad19 déc. 2019

The Super Nintendo era of Final Fantasy was so good that many long-time fans of the series often see those games as the best in the series. Their amazing stories, memorable characters, and wonderful music make them worthy of being viewed in such a light. On this episode, we’re going to take a deeper look into Final Fantasy 6, and how its influence is still felt in JRPGs 25 years later. Ep S9E10
Episode S9E9: Free Play04 déc. 2019
It's a sparse panel this time, and we shoot the metaphorical shit for 2 hours in this Free Play, covering topics like: yet more things that video game developers do that piss us off, the possibility of selling your digitally-purchased games and the court case in the EU that could be huge in that regard, and devoting the entire second half to Team Cherry's amazing game, Hollow Knight. Ep S9E9
Episode S9E8: Bombs Away!07 nov. 2019

Reviews are probably the only direct way a consumer has to voice their enjoyment or displeasure regarding a product. In the world of video games, though, coordinated efforts to quickly bombard a game's page with (mostly) negative reviews to address a perceived wrong either with the developer or the game itself leads us to ask: is this practice a good way to try to effect change, or are these review bombs just complaints by whiny and seemingly-entitled gamers? Ep S9E8
Episode S9E7: Crunch Time18 sept. 2019
It has been a brutal year for developers in the video game industry. Massive layoffs from Activision Blizzard, EA, and ArenaNet, the collapse of Telltale Studios…well over a thousand people suddenly out of work. Then we have the phenomenon known as "crunch." It is pervasive, with developers working 14-hour days for weeks and months on end to meet the unrealistic deadlines of publishers and shareholders. Is there anything that we as gamers can do, or that the industry at large can do? Ep S9E7
