Titre: La Reine des Neiges (L'Odyssée Sonore)
Auteur: Hans Christian Andersen
Narrateur: div.
Format: Original Recording
Durée: 45 mins
Langue: Français
Date de publication: 03-26-13
Éditeur: Editions Eveil et Découvertes
Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10

Narrator Toby Stephens' lighthearted performance of this classic tale is sure to become a favorite with young listeners. Aladdin is tricked by an evil magician into a cave but manages to escape with a lamp that contains a genie who grants Aladdin everything he desires. Stephens effortlessly evokes Aladdin's youthful voice, contrasting it with the voices of the other characters, from the genie's growl to the Sultan's stern commands, and his descriptions of the unimaginable riches and treasures in the story will linger in listeners' minds.

Title: Rip Van Winkle and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
Author: Washington Irving
Narrator: George Guidall
Format: Unabridged
Length: 2 hrs and 14 mins
Language: English
Release date: 12-16-99
Publisher: Recorded Books
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 16 votes
Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10
Publisher's Summary:
These 2 stories from the pen of one of America's earliest and most popular writers draw upon the myths and legends of local and European folklore to create memorable, richly American tales and characters. In the title story, Rip Van Winkle wanders into the Catskill Mountains before the Revolutionary War. When he helps a dwarf carry a heavy keg to a ninepins game, it seems natural to drink the strange, small men's brew - but he hasn't the head for it, and wakes up 20 years later! In "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," the gawky schoolmaster, Ichabod Crane, and his rival Brom Bones, both court beautiful Katrina Van Tassel - until a Headless Horseman makes a ghostly ride.
(P)1993 by Recorded Books, Inc.
Editorial Reviews:
"Rip Van Winkle" is one of Washington Irving's most iconic scary stories. Rip falls asleep after drinking too much and awakens 20 years into the future with a rusty gun, a dead wife, and a now-adult daughter. What's more, looks like Rip has missed the entire American Civil War. George Guidall is an incredibly talented audio performer. He brings this famous and traditional American ghost story to life. Guidall plays with his intonation, utilizing both high and low registers to make this audio version even more captivating than the original. In particular, Guidall endows elderly Rip with a spot-on croaky and bewildered voice. This audiobook is a great Halloween-time listen.
Critic Reviews:
"Irving belongs to the number of writers who can be read by all who admire a combination of elegance, sentiment, and wit." (American Literature and Culture)

Editorial Reviews:
Rebellion against a monarchy in favor of semi-popular elections. Massive infrastructure projects aiding in explosive commerce. Leaders despotic, benign, and martyred. Entanglements in foreign wars.
The above could be a description of the United States, Australia, France, or many other industrialized countries. It also fits the ancient Roman Empire, perhaps the greatest empire the world has ever seen. In this very brief audiobook, Leah Vandenbergs pleasant Australian voice will guide the listener through the most significant milestones of Roman history. While only a cursory sketch, the information provided here may be of use to an armchair player of trivia games, or to a young student seeking a broader base of culturally significant knowledge.
Critic Reviews:

But Mama's new husband doesn't think a little girl should live with parents who work all night and sleep all day.
Meanwhile, Lexie's class has been raising money to ship a doll to the children of Japan in a friendship exchange, and when Lexie learns that the girl who writes the best letter to acccompany the doll will be sent to the farewell ceremony in San Fransisco, she knows she just has to be the winner. But what if a jealous classmate and Lexie's own small lies to her grandmother manage to derail her plans?

Sussy and Guy are best friends, fourth graders who share their silliest thoughts and deepest hopes. One afternoon the two of them decide they must have something of their very own to love. After a trip to the pet store, they bring home a spotted lizard, the one with the ancient face and starfish toes, and they name her Matylda (with a Y so it's all her own). With Guy leading the way, they feed her and give her an origin story fit for a warrior lizard.
A few weeks later, on a simple bike ride, there is a terrible accident. As hard as it is, Sussy is sure she can hold on to Guy if she can find a way to love Matylda enough. But in a startling turn of events, Sussy reconsiders what it means to grieve and heal and hope and go on, for her own sake and Matylda's.
By turns both devastating and buoyant, this story is a brave one, showing how far we can justify going for a real and true friend.

Publisher's Summary:
Professional biographer Carl Rollyson has pioneered a new kind of biography for children and adults alike. His narrative of Marie Curie's life is rendered in simple, precise prose. Each chapter is designed to provoke further discussion and research into the life and career of one of the century's greatest scientists and - as Rollyson shows - one of the most important figures in human history. At a time when the ethics of science and of scientists have been called into question, Rollyson's searching examination of Madame Curie's methods and morality makes this a sharply focused and challenging biography. Marie Curie emerges from this account as a woman of great integrity and self-discipline, acutely conscious of her historic role, keenly devoted to protecting her private life, and yet willing to shape her personality to the public roles demanded of her.

Publisher's Summary:
"Listen my children and you shall hear of the midnight ride of Paul Revere." This opening line, from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's tribute poem "Paul Revere's Ride", celebrates a highlight of this Boston-born folk hero's life and times. Like many of his contemporaries, Paul Revere was not only a businessman and family man, but also a soldier and spy. Minutemen were patriots ready at a moment's notice to serve the cause of the Revolution.
