Owning a dog can teach us valuable lessons that we utilize beyond life with a dog. Because of this, Karoline loves to take the familiarity of owning a pet and relating those experiences to emotional well-being and more raw topics on her social platforms and podcast. Her goal is to make new dog owners feel less alone, give hope for those problems people thought they couldn’t solve, and match words to how their dog is acting or how they are feeling. This podcast is catered for those who have been emotionally affected, inspired, and empowered from owning a dog. For all the dog pictures and relatable content, follow @dogmommentality. How to Navigate Difficult Conversations as a Dog Owner

jeudi 20 juillet 2023Durée 01:20:47

Grab your notebook and pen because this episode with Jess from @handlersandhumans is jam packed full of info!! Jess is a licensed professional counselor who lives in Pennsylvania with her husband, her 8 year old pit mix Dio, and her cat named Bat. Animals and therapy are two of Jess's passions, and she has brought them together in many ways, such as getting certified in animal assisted therapy, by doing equine psychotherapy work, training her reactive dog to become a therapy dog, and now as a coach who supports dog owners struggling with the human side of their training journey. Dio is a reactive boy who has worked hard to earn his CGC and pass the therapy dog evaluations - but made it clear that therapy work wasn't a fit for him, so now he's a happy house dog, loving life and hanging out with his cat all day.

You can find Jess’s course, Coping with Canines, at handlersandhumans.com! You can use the code DMM23 for a discount!

Being Mindful in Your Dog Training Journey

jeudi 13 avril 2023Durée 49:35

This week we are talking to Alex Peacock! Alex lives in New Hampshire with his wife, Kelly, and their two dogs Odin and Cosmo. Odin is a 60 mile per hour couch potato, and Cosmo is a sweetie with his head in a cloud. Alex is a passionate dog trainer who loves the challenge of solving unique dog behavior problems, and currently is focusing on running an online training program for owners who's dogs struggle with excessive barking.

He has found dog training to be a powerful tool for self improvement- his pitbull Odin has been one of the most difficult dogs he has trained (in part because of the learning he had to do to help him).

Period Talk: PMDD, Our Cycle Stories, and How We Think It Affects Our Dogs

jeudi 6 avril 2023Durée 01:07:30

Hiya!!! This week we are talking to Alexa from @tellingourtails! Alexa, her dog, Joni, her cat, Sid, and her partner, Brad, all live in Brooklyn, New York. Alexa’s account, Telling Our Tails, showcases life in the big city with a rescue dog and cat. They focus on how to live comfortably with your pets while also taking care of yourself. Alexa says Joni has not always been an easy dog to live with due to some behavioral issues that they have worked very hard to grow through. By helping Joni find comfort in the world, Alexa has found comfort and confidence in herself.

Alexa also lives with PMDD, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, and has been advocating for more education around it on her social platforms. I am so excited to talk to her about being a woman, menstrual cycles and how our mood at different times of the month can affect our dogs!

April is PMDD awareness month!! You can donate to Alexa’s fundraiser for it here: https://secure.givelively.org//donate/international-association-for-premenstrual-disorders/alexa-reidenauer

ADHD, Dog Personalities, and Living in a Rural Area

jeudi 30 mars 2023Durée 01:06:02

This week we are talking to Autumn from @autumnal.aussies! Autumn is a dog bather and daycare handler living in Washington State with her husband, Timothy, and their 4 Australian Shepherds: Camo, Skittles, Rand and Xayah! Ranging from 15 months to 12 years old, they mainly do off leash hikes in the forests in their area, but Autumn also dabbles in sports with them to varying degrees as their budget and mental health allows. Autumn focuses on accessible, affordable sports that don't require rigorous repetitions or commitment to a class schedule, because of her ADHD, and taps into her dogs’ natural drives. Barn Hunt, Herding, Parkour, and Bikejoring are her main focuses at the moment!

Autumn says she can definitely emphasize with her reactive dogs' struggles with impulse control, emotional regulation and overstimulation because she lives with ADHD. Dog training has given her a way to cope and has provided grounding strategies, which is what we are going to talk about today!
