Autumn Fladmo Smith began her academic career with a Bachelor's degree in psychology and a minor in dance from the University of Montana. Upon graduation, Autumn danced professionally while becoming a certified yoga instructor. Hoping to combine her love of dance with her passion for health, Autumn became a celebrity fitness trainer with Tracy Anderson, most notably completing a world tour with Jennifer Lopez.

While working as a fitness trainer, Autumn could see that exercise alone was not enough for many of her clients to achieve the radiant health they worked so hard to achieve. Meanwhile, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and anxiety continued to plague her personal health, starting in adolescence. These frustrations further ignited her passion and interest in the study of holistic nutrition. Through self-guided research, she and her husband, Chas, healed her IBS with the paleo diet. She then studied with the Institute for the Psychology of Eating to become a Certified Eating Psychology Coach and Hawthorn University where she obtained a Masters in Holistic Nutrition.

In 2013, she founded Paleovalley with her husband and brother-in-law. Paleovalley’s mission is to disseminate excellent nutritional information and organic food products with 100 million people worldwide. Autumn's commitment to health reached new heights last year following the birth of their son, Maverick. Also, Autumn became a Certified FDN Practitioner as of 2018!

#329: Decoding Milk Choices: Raw, Goat, and Non-Dairy Options for Your Family’s Health with Haley from My SuperHero Foods30 Apr 202400:57:20

Milk options can feel overwhelming for parents striving to make the healthiest choices for their families. In this episode, health and wellness advocate Haley Scheich, co-founder of My Superhero Foods, dives deep into the pros and cons of milk—from raw and goat milk to non-dairy alternatives like nut and oat milks.

Haley shares her personal journey of eliminating and reintroducing dairy, including the transformative health benefits she experienced with raw milk. Learn how to navigate confusing labels like "grass-fed" and "organic," and uncover surprising truths about the milk industry, including concerns around glyphosate contamination, pasteurization, and gut health.

We also explore alternatives for those who can’t tolerate cow’s milk, such as goat milk, coconut milk, and nut milks—offering practical tips for choosing the least processed options. Plus, Haley and Dr. Elana discuss common fears about raw milk safety, the realities of herd shares, and how to make informed, budget-conscious decisions for your family.

Whether you’re navigating milk choices for toddlers, teens, or your entire family, this episode is packed with expert insights and actionable advice to help you feel confident and empowered in your decisions.

Topics covered in this episode:

  • Benefits of Raw Milk for Families

  • Comparing Goat Milk vs. Cow Milk

  • Non-Dairy Alternatives: Coconut and Nut Milks

  • Milk Industry Myths and Facts

  • How to Choose Safe and Healthy Milk

Show Notes:

Haley Scheich is the cofounder of My SuperHero Foods, a wellness brand that teaches families about the powers of real foods and the importance of what we put in our bodies.  She’s a working mama of 3 kids and 3 step kids, ages 2 to 18. She’s married to Dr. Tarek Pacha, her best friend and co-founder.

Haley spent 17 years in the healthcare industry before creating My SuperHero Foods. Her first 9 years were spent at Pfizer. There she learned that so many chronic medicines aren’t needed if you change the way you eat. Food can be the real medicine. She later spent another 8 years in bioinformatics, specifically urologist cancers, and genomics.

After being introduced to yoga and healing her own body through nutrition, she discovered a disconnect between the healthcare and nutrition industries and the strength of food as medicine. Shortly after, she dropped out of her Masters in Nutrition program and began a decade-long journey of self-education.

Haley and Tarek co-authored the children’s books, My SuperHero Foods and My SuperHero Sleep as well as the breakfast cookbook Sunny Side Up and The Ultimate Guide to Avoiding Seed Oils in Your Kitchen. They also created mysuperherofoods.com, a free robust resource to help raise awareness about the power of whole foods and wellness. You can find her on Instagram @mysupherherofoods, where she continues to educate parents and caregivers on the importance of real food for all kids.

Dr. Chen is a UK trained medical doctor with 15 years of clinical experience. She is board certified in the UK in both internal medicine and family practice.

Her world turned upside down when her daughter was hospitalized soon after being born with symptoms no doctor could figure out. Through doing her own research, she was able to help her daughter recover. She also realized that the many years of chronic fatigue, acne and brain fog she had was due to environmental toxicity. This opened the world of root causes she had never considered before as a conventional medical doctor.

Today she lives in San Francisco with her family and coaches clients back to health by identifying root causes and implementing lifestyle solutions. She is also on a mission to help people reduce their toxin load because she believes environmental toxins to be one important root cause of many chronic health conditions.

Ashley, a certified Pregnancy and Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist, teaches women not only how to return to exercise safely and effectively, but how to kick all the butt while doing it! Her home-based fitness program takes women from the postpartum basics through total body, high intensity workouts that strengthen the core and pelvic floor.

Street Parking was founded by Julian and Miranda Alcaraz in 2016. Miranda – after 15 years in the fitness industry, 8 years on CrossFit HQ seminar staff, and 8 years competing in CrossFit. Julian – after 10 years in the fitness industry, and 5 years competing in CrossFit. Both having trained and competed at the highest level – the CrossFit Games – they found themselves in new territory – busy. Julian was running a business and Miranda had settled into a full time job. At the time the couple was dating and lived over an hour away from each other. They noticed something interesting. The workouts they would post on their social media from HOME – with simple equipment – was what people who followed them responded to most.

An idea was formed. Post the simple workouts we are doing at home – so people can follow along. Charge a fee that is totally doable for most people. Create a community where we can push and motivate each other. The first ever workouts were posted in November 2016 (just a few days before Miranda found out she was pregnant with their baby boy). Memberships went up for sale the week before New Years. Within the first month, Street Parking had 700 Members.

As Street Parking continued to grow and the members were posting about how this had changed the game for them to be able to see success at home. The fire that Julian and Miranda felt to provide the best programming, community, and service possible grew as well. With their own lives about to change forever with the birth of their son – they knew that this was something they wanted to dedicate themselves to 100%. Miranda left her full time job. Julian sold his business.

He still remembers the day she held up some collagen, rattled off some of the benefits and then looked at him and said, "You're not getting any younger," so Sean gave it a try. Needless to say, he was hooked right away on the benefits.

Sean leaned on his experience as a former professional athlete, skilled marketing director and entrepreneurial spirit to create BUBS Naturals along with business partner TJ Ferrara , the purest form of collagen protein on the market.  The spark for the business came as a combination of FEELING GREAT with quality product and DOING GOOD by donating 10% of all profits to charity. That charity is the Glen Doherty Memorial Foundation in memory of his lifelong friend, Glen "BUB" Doherty, a Navy SEAL heroically killed in Benghazi during the 9/11 terrorist attacks (if you’ve seen the movie 13 Hours then you know part of Glen's amazing story).

She and Sean enjoy pushing their bodies and minds in effort to grow continuously and live by the BUBS’ motto: Die young, as late as possible.
