Episode 114 - When Legacy Meets Arrogance: The Snow White Catastrophe12 May 202500:26:36

Send us a text

Hollywood's perfect storm has arrived in the form of Disney's live-action Snow White remake, a film that may go down in history as one of the studio's most spectacular failures. With a staggering production and marketing budgets,  this reimagining of the 1937 classic is projected to loose eye watering amounts of money.

At the heart of this catastrophe lies a fundamental disconnect between filmmakers and audience expectations. The original Snow White wasn't just any film – it was Walt Disney's revolutionary gamble that changed animation forever. Disney mortgaged his family home to complete what industry insiders mockingly called "Disney's Folly," only to see it earn $8 million during the Great Depression and establish his studio as an entertainment powerhouse.

What went wrong with the remake? The trouble began well before release when lead actress Rachel Zegler made comments dismissing the original as "weird" and criticizing its love story, calling the prince "a guy who literally stalks her." This set the tone for a production that seemed determined to distance itself from rather than honor its source material. The film underwent multiple delays and changes, particularly around the portrayal of the Seven Dwarves, suggesting a production lacking clear creative vision.

The audience response has been historically brutal, with the film currently holding a 1.6/10 rating on IMDB from over 350,000 reviewers – one of the lowest scores for any major studio release. Reviews consistently mention "lifeless" scripts, "artificial" dialogue, "uninspired" performances, and visual effects that fail to create the magic expected from Disney.

This cautionary tale offers a powerful lesson for studios: when reimagining beloved classics that have maintained cultural relevance for generations, respect for the source material isn't optional – it's essential. As we've seen with successful adaptations like Sonic the Hedgehog, listening to audience feedback and honoring what made the original special creates a path to both artistic and commercial success.

Welcome back to DMR!

As I review the much anticpated second installment in Tim Burton's horror/comdey franchise:

"Beetlejuice is back! After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia's life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened.

With trouble brewing in both realms, it's only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice's name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem."

Welcome back to DMR!

As I review that much anticipated sequel to Dune being Part 2 in the series.

The film explores the mythical journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.

Episode 113 - A Minecraft Movie (2025) Movie Review15 Apr 202500:26:43

Welcome back to DMR!

As I review the latest kids movie taking the world by storm:

"Welcome to the world of Minecraft, where creativity doesn't just help you craft, it's essential to one's survival! Four misfits--Garrett "The Garbage Man" Garrison (Jason Momoa), Henry (Sebastian Eugene Hansen), Natalie (Emma Myers) and Dawn (Danielle Brooks)--find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination.

To get back home, they'll have to master this world (and protect it from evil things like Piglins and Zombies, too) while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve (Jack Black). Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative... the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world."

The film as already made over $552m globaly in less than two weeks and has become the most successful video game based movie in history!

This film had elements of The Labyrinth, The Matrix & Tron; however it definitely stands on its own two feet despite some similarities.

This is what happens when you make a kids movie that stays true to its story and avoids adding in politics or changing a storyline.

Episode 92 - Saltburn (2023) Movie Review - SHOCK VALUE!16 Jan 202400:24:00

Send us a text

Welcome back to DMR!

Where does one start with one of the most controversial films of the century...An Amazon Prime exclusive.

"Academy Award winning filmmaker Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman) brings us a beautifully wicked tale of privilege and desire.

Struggling to find his place at Oxford University, student Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan) finds himself drawn into the world of the charming and aristocratic Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi), who invites him to Saltburn, his eccentric family's sprawling estate, for a summer never to be forgotten."

I also discuss what films and shows I feel are similar to this movie and what role shock value is playing in todays films/series.

Just watch the film, buckle up if your easily offended or grossed out...Still a great movie...somewhat....Don't know if it requires a second viewing!

Welcome back to DMR!

Ahhhhhh man this one stings....Val Kilmer....has sadly passed away at age 65, just take a look at some of the roles he played:

Iceman - Top Gun - 1986

Jim Morrison - The Doors - 1991

Doc Holiday - Tombstone - 1993

Batman/Bruce Waye - Batman Forever - 1995

Chris - Heat - 1995

This guy threw everything inot his craft and was a huge part of my childhood seeing Batman in 1995 as a ten year old.

Gone way too soon, VK is now up in the heavens in that golden cinema with the rest of the greats.....Thank you, fly high Iceman, the skies are clear

Welcome back to DMR!

As I review Martin Scorsese's latest and one of the most anticipated films of 2023.

Killers of the Flower Moon is a American epic western crime drama film, set in 1920s Oklahoma, it focuses on a series of murders of Osage members and relations in the Osage Nation after oil was being produced on tribal land. Tribal members had retained mineral rights on their reservation, and whites sought to gain their wealth.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro and Lily Gladstone lead an ensemble cast, that also includes Jesse Plemons, Tantoo Cardinal, John Lithgow and Brendan Fraser.

With a monster run time of 3.5 hours, this film will fit in well on Scorseses amongst his other highly successful films.

Painkiller is an American drama limited series made for Netflix.

The six-episode series, which is based on Patrick Radden Keefe's New Yorker article "The Family That Built an Empire of Pain" and Pain Killer: An Empire of Deceit and the Origin of America's Opioid Epidemic by Barry Meier, focuses on the birth of the opioid crisis, with an emphasis on Purdue Pharma, a company owned by Richard Sackler and his family that was the manufacturer of OxyContin.

The Sackler family have been described as the "most evil family in America" and "the worst drug dealers in history.

Welcome back to DMR

During World War II, Lt. Gen. Leslie Groves Jr. appoints physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer to work on the top-secret Manhattan Project. Oppenheimer and a team of scientists spend years developing and designing the atomic bomb. Their work comes to fruition on July 16, 1945, as they witness the world’s first nuclear explosion, forever changing the course of history.

Christopher Nolan’s latest WW2 epic is a must watch for war enthusiasts, however, do not go into this film expecting what we have seen from this director in the past.

Stand out performances from Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon & a strong performance from Robert Downey Jnr.
