Author: Jules Verne
Narrator: Geoffrey Giuliano, The Icon Players
Publisher: Author's Republic
Release date: 05-19-2020
Language: English

Summary:
Mysterious Phileas Fogg is a man of the most repetitious and punctual habit - with no apparent sense of adventure whatsoever - he gambles his considerable fortune that he can complete a journey around the world in just 80 days...immediately after a newspaper calculates the feat as just barely possible. With his excitable French manservant in tow, Fogg undertakes the exercise immediately, with no preparations, trusting that his traveling funds will make up for delays along the way. But unbeknownst to him, British police are desperately seeking to arrest him for the theft of a huge sum by someone who resembles him, and they will track him around the world, if necessary, to apprehend him. This is an adventure novel of the first water, with wholly unexpected perils, hair-breadth escapes, brilliant solutions to insoluble problems, and even a love story. And can this be? - That he returns to London just five minutes too late to win his wager and retain his fortune?

Data di pubblicazione: 05-18-2020
Lingua: Italiano

Riepilogo:

Editore: Il Narratore s.r.l.
Data di pubblicazione: 05-13-2020

Riepilogo:

Please note: This audiobook is in Spanish.

Title: De L'Orme [Elm]
Categories: Classic, Fiction
Author: G. P. R. James
Narrator: Lynne Thompson
Publisher: Author's Republic
Release date: 05-12-2020
Language: English

Summary:
G.P.R. James was a historian and novelist, who took well-documented historical events and characters and wove stories around minor or imaginary actors in the events. In this work, set in 17th century France, we follow the adventures of young Louis, heir to the Count of Bigorre, after an encounter with the vindictive Marquis de Saint Brie forces him into exile. The tale wends its way inexorably towards the Battle of Marfee in the 30 years War and the death of the Count of Soissons in a failed coup against the much hated minister, Cardinal de Richelieu. Young love, a brush with the law, card sharks, a deadly avalanche - life is definitely interesting for the young adventurer.

Series: #1 in Alice in Wonderland
Categories: Classic, Fiction
Author: Lewis Carroll
Narrator: Tony Walker
Publisher: Author's Republic
Release date: 05-07-2020

Summary:
A top notch retelling of Lewis Carroll's classic. Alice falls down the rabbit hole and wanders through a bizarre procession of memorable characters who have become figures of speech in English speaking culture ever since. Meet the Mock Turtle, the hookah smoking Caterpillar, the murderous Queen of Hearts, the anarchic cook with her pepper pot, the baby that turns into a pig, not to mention the grinning Cheshire Cat and the forgetful White Rabbit. This narration is humorously performed in a collection of English (one Scottish and a hint of Irish) accents to bring out the wit and wisdom of this classic tale.

Editore: Area51 Publishing
Data di pubblicazione: 05-05-2020
Lingua: Italiano

Riepilogo:

Title: The Picture of Dorian Gray
Categories: Classic, Fiction
Author: Oscar Wilde
Narrator: Arielle Lipshaw, Rob Goll, Graham Scott, Mark Crowle-Groves
Publisher: Spoken Realms
Release date: 04-18-2020
Language: English

Summary:
This extended moralistic fable, Oscar Wilde's longest work of fiction, was first published in 1890. It may be described as a tragedy of manners, in which a wealthy young man, endowed with great powers of physical and personal attractiveness, embarks on a hectic course of life which brings destruction to many around him, and ultimately to himself. In a response to a hostile critic in the St James Gazette, Wilde wrote of the book: "..... they will find that it is a story with a moral. And the moral is this: All excess, as well as all renunciation, brings its own punishment. The painter, Basil Hallward, worshiping physical beauty far too much, as most painters do, dies by the hand of one in whose soul he has created a monstrous and absurd vanity. Dorian Gray, having led a life of mere sensation and pleasure, tries to kill conscience, and at that moment kills himself. Lord Henry Wotton seeks to be merely the spectator of life. He finds that those who reject the battle are more deeply wounded than those who take part in it."

Author: Charles Dickens
Narrator: Rob Goll
Publisher: Spoken Realms
Release date: 04-17-2020
Language: English

Summary:
Hard Times is set in and around Coketown, a fictitious, Victorian mill town in the North of England. A town of red brick, machinery, and tall chimneys. A town blackened by soot, shrouded in mist, and choked by smoke. The working men and women of Coketown, referred to generally as "Hands" as if they were merely extensions of the machinery they operate, and not individuals with loves and likes, memories and inclinations, souls to weary and souls to hope. Among the masters of Coketown are the boastful and blusterous Josiah Bounderby, mill owner and banker; and the founder of the Coketown school, Thomas Gradgrind, a man of rigid facts and calculations; Gradgrind's children, Louisa and Tom, are model examples of his educational system: replete with facts and useful knowledge, and without a taint of fancy. Other characters include the highly connected Mrs. Sparsit; and the tender-hearted circus girl, Sissy Jupe, and the genial circus master, Sleary, whose entertainments provide relief from the monotony of Coketown life. Hard Times is Charles Dickens' tenth and the shortest of his full-length novels. It was first published as a serial in the weekly publication, Household Words, between April and August 1854.
