| Special Announcement | Disciple Blueprint Podcast | 12 oct. 2026 | 00:03:13 | |
A Short Pause—and What’s Coming Next Disciple Blueprint Podcast Episode Description After two years of publishing new Disciple Blueprint content every week without taking a single week off, I am stepping away from the production schedule for a short season of rest and refocusing. Jesus told His disciples, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while” (Mark 6:31 ESV). They were not abandoning their calling. Jesus recognized that faithful people sometimes need to step away from constant activity. Beginning October 12, new Disciple Blueprint podcast episodes, blog posts, videos, social media posts, and member resources will pause. Fresh original content is planned to return on Monday, November 2, 2026—or sooner. This is a pause from production, not from God, His Word, or the mission of Disciple Blueprint. I will continue praying, studying Scripture, and following wherever God leads without the weekly pressure to write, record, edit, design, and publish by a deadline. The entire Disciple Blueprint podcast archive will remain available during the break. This is a good opportunity to explore an earlier series or return to an episode that challenged you. You can also hear the six concluding episodes from the Start at Home series and read the complete companion series at: https://www.discipleblueprint.com/startathome I will also spend some of this time exploring a new idea. I am not ready to promise what form it will take, but I can share its working title: He’s God, I’m Not. God sees what we cannot see, knows what we do not know, and controls what we cannot control. I look forward to spending time with that truth and sharing more in November. This is not goodbye. Lord willing, I will return rested, refocused, and ready for whatever comes next. Until then, keep opening your Bible, serving your family and church, loving your neighbor, and following Jesus faithfully. Follow the Disciple Blueprint Podcast on your favorite podcast platform so you will know when the next episode is released. Please like this episode and share it with someone who may need permission to step away from constant production and rest for a while.
| If You Want to Change the World, Start at Home | Start at Home | 10 oct. 2026 | 00:07:30 | |
Episode Summary Christians can become so focused on changing the country that we neglect the people sitting at our own table. This final Start at Home episode brings the entire series to a personal conclusion. Government, elections, laws, and public justice matter, but none of them can repent for us, disciple our children, repair our marriages, or make us faithful members of Christ’s body. Culture is shaped through repeated choices long before those choices become movements, policies, or headlines. Listeners are challenged to stop waiting for a large platform, an official title, or the next election. Open Scripture at home. Strengthen the local church. Help someone in need. Pray for leaders. Speak truthfully. Begin with the people and responsibilities God has already placed nearby. What Listeners Will Learn Why public influence must grow from private Christian character How ordinary faithfulness shapes families, churches, and communities Why political engagement matters without becoming ultimate One concrete act of obedience listeners can begin this week Key Scriptures Matthew 5:14–16; James 1:22; Galatians 6:9–10 Companion Post Read the complete capstone article and explore the entire Start at Home series at https://www.discipleblueprint.com/startathome Listen and Share If this episode encouraged or challenged you, please like or rate it and share it with someone who may need this message. | What Happens When We Ask the Wrong Institution to Fix the Problem? | Start at Home | 09 oct. 2026 | 00:07:05
Episode Summary A dentist may be intelligent and compassionate, but that does not make the dentist the right person to repair a transmission. In the same way, good intentions do not guarantee that we have assigned a problem to the right institution. This episode examines what happens when families transfer discipleship to the church, church members transfer ministry to a few leaders, or families and churches leave needs unattended until government becomes the default provider. It also warns against the opposite mistake of using private responsibility to excuse government from justice and protection. The goal is not an inflexible formula, but better biblical questions: Who is closest to the need? Who carries the clearest responsibility? What kind of help will relieve suffering while strengthening dignity, stability, relationships, and responsibility? What Listeners Will Learn How Scripture establishes an order of responsibility for practical care Why government often enters gaps that families and churches leave open The difference between inability and unwillingness to accept responsibility Four questions for deciding how a need should be addressed Key Scriptures Romans 13:4; 1 Timothy 5:4, 8, 16; Galatians 6:10; 2 Thessalonians 3:10 Companion Post Read the complete capstone article and explore the entire Start at Home series at https://www.discipleblueprint.com/startathome Listen and Share If this episode encouraged or challenged you, please like or rate it and share it with someone who may need this message. | What is Government Actually Responsible For? | 08 oct. 2026 | 00:07:39
Episode Summary Government is a terrible savior, but that does not make it an unnecessary servant. Scripture gives civil government real authority to restrain wrongdoing, punish crime, protect the innocent, administer justice, and preserve public order. It also places government beneath God and within important boundaries. This episode addresses two errors Christians frequently make: political idolatry, which gives a candidate or party the hope that belongs to Christ, and political cynicism, which treats all authority as illegitimate whenever we disagree. Listeners are challenged to pursue truth and impartial justice, understand the actual authority of public offices, pray for leaders, become involved locally, and refuse to let political personalities disciple their emotions. Government has authority, but Jesus is Lord. What Listeners Will Learn The legitimate purposes and limits of civil authority Why submission to government does not require blind agreement How biblical justice rejects favoritism in every direction What responsible Christian citizenship looks like in practice Key Scriptures Leviticus 19:15; Romans 13:1–7; 1 Timothy 2:1–4; 1 Peter 2:13–17; Acts 5:29 Companion Post Read the complete capstone article and explore the entire Start at Home series at https://www.discipleblueprint.com/startathome Listen and Share If this episode encouraged or challenged you, please like or rate it and share it with someone who may need this message. | What is the Church Actually Responsible For? | Start at Home | 07 oct. 2026 | 00:06:49
Episode Summary The church is not a religious vendor, and Christians are not customers evaluating a weekly product. The church is the body of Christ, called to proclaim the gospel, teach Scripture, worship, make disciples, equip believers, cultivate fellowship, and care for people in need. This episode gives particular attention to the church’s responsibility toward widows, struggling families, vulnerable people, and those whose family support is exhausted or unavailable. Acts 6 shows that the early church refused to choose between biblical teaching and practical care. Both mattered. Listeners will also consider why wise benevolence involves discernment, accountability, relationship, and long-term health—not simply writing a check—and why ordinary church members must help notice and carry needs that pastors cannot meet alone. What Listeners Will Learn Why every believer is a participant in ministry rather than a spectator How Acts 6 joins biblical teaching with organized practical care Why compassion and discernment belong together in church benevolence Practical ways ordinary Christians can strengthen the local church Key Scriptures Matthew 28:18–20; Acts 2:42–47; Acts 4:32–35; Acts 6:1–6; Ephesians 4:11–16; James 1:27 Companion Post Read the complete capstone article and explore the entire Start at Home series at https://www.discipleblueprint.com/startathome Listen and Share If this episode encouraged or challenged you, please like or rate it and share it with someone who may need this message. | What Is the Family Actually Responsible For? | Start at Home | 06 oct. 2026 | 00:06:41
Episode Summary Family discipleship is more than holding a perfect devotional or taking children to church. It is the pattern of faith, love, repentance, work, care, and obedience that people see in the home every day. This episode examines God’s design for the family as a place of covenant faithfulness, spiritual formation, practical care, protection, discipline, and love. It also addresses difficult realities: not every household looks the same, faithful parents cannot force belief into a child’s heart, and biblical responsibility does not mean accepting abuse or trying to control another person’s choices. Whether listeners are married, single, raising children, caring for aging parents, or carrying wounds from a broken home, the central question remains: What does faithfulness require in the life God has actually given me? What Listeners Will Learn Why God’s Word must shape a parent before it can be taught faithfully How everyday example forms children as much as direct instruction What Scripture says about caring for relatives across generations The difference between personal responsibility and controlling outcomes Key Scriptures Deuteronomy 6:4–9; Ephesians 5:22–6:4; 1 Timothy 5:4, 8, 16 Companion Post Read the complete capstone article and explore the entire Start at Home series at https://www.discipleblueprint.com/startathome Listen and Share If this episode encouraged or challenged you, please like or rate it and share it with someone who may need this message. | God Designed Society - We Didn't | Start at Home | 05 oct. 2026 | 00:07:11
Episode Summary Before asking who should fix society, Christians need to ask who designed it. This episode introduces the biblical framework behind the family, the church, and government. Each institution exists under God’s authority, each carries a distinct responsibility, and each becomes distorted when it abandons its work or attempts to absorb the work of the others. The family forms and cares for people, the church makes disciples and serves those in need, and government restrains wrongdoing and administers public justice. The episode also explains why institutional authority is never unlimited and why our first allegiance belongs to God. Listeners are challenged to stop beginning only with what Washington, church leaders, or other families should do and instead identify the responsibility God has placed directly in front of them. What Listeners Will Learn How Scripture distinguishes the responsibilities of family, church, and government Why cooperation among institutions should not erase their boundaries How every form of delegated authority remains accountable to God Why meaningful reform begins with personal faithfulness Key Scriptures Genesis 2:24; Matthew 28:19–20; Romans 13:1–7; 1 Timothy 5:4–16 Companion Post Read the complete capstone article and explore the entire Start at Home series at https://www.discipleblueprint.com/startathome Listen and Share If this episode encouraged or challenged you, please like or rate it and share it with someone who may need this message. | When Should a Christian Disobey the Government? | Start at Home | Disciple Blueprint Podcast | 03 oct. 2026 | 00:07:11
When Should a Christian Disobey the Government? “We must obey God rather than people.” Acts 5:29 establishes an important boundary on governmental authority, but it isn't permission for Christians to ignore every law we dislike. So where is the line? In this episode, Raymond examines Acts 5, Daniel 6, Romans 13, and 1 Peter 2 to distinguish ordinary political disagreement from genuine biblical civil disobedience. Government possesses real authority, but it never possesses ultimate authority. That belongs to God alone.
Acts 5:27–29; Daniel 6; Romans 13:1–7; 1 Peter 2:13–17 Key Principle: When government exercises legitimate authority, Christians submit because Christ tells us to. When government requires us to disobey God, Christians obey God because Christ is Lord. Learn more and find additional resources at DiscipleBlueprint.com.
| How Should Christians Treat a Government They Disagree With? | Start at Home | Disciple Blueprint Podcast | 02 oct. 2026 | 00:07:14 | |
How Should Christians Treat a Government They Disagree With? Respecting government is fairly easy when the people we voted for are running it. The real test comes when they're not. Scripture doesn't tell Christians to respect governing authority only when we agree with it. Romans 13 and 1 Peter 2 give Christians responsibilities that aren't determined by which political party controls government. In this episode, Raymond examines how Christians should respond when we strongly disagree with our leaders while still faithfully representing Christ.
Romans 13:1–7; 1 Peter 2:13–17; 1 Timothy 2:1–2; Acts 16:35–39; Acts 22:25–29 Key Principle: Christians can strongly oppose government policies without abandoning the character Christ calls us to demonstrate. Learn more and find additional resources at DiscipleBlueprint.com.
| Does Biblical Justice Mean Equal Outcomes? | Start at Home | Disciple Blueprint Podcast | 01 oct. 2026 | 00:08:03 | |
Does Biblical Justice Mean Equal Outcomes? What's the difference between equality and equity, and does biblical justice require everyone to experience the same outcome? In this episode, Raymond examines one of the more difficult questions surrounding modern discussions of social justice. Scripture clearly teaches equal human worth and commands impartial justice. It also commands Christians to recognize genuine needs and care for vulnerable people. However, different circumstances or outcomes do not automatically prove that an injustice occurred. Using practical examples from poverty and criminal justice, we'll consider how Christians can recognize genuine injustice without making equal outcomes the definition of justice.
Leviticus 19:15; Romans 13:1–4; Proverbs 18:17 Key Principle: Different outcomes may give us a reason to ask questions, but biblical justice requires us to find the truth before deciding the answer. Learn more and find additional resources at DiscipleBlueprint.com.
| Who Gets to Decide What Justice Means? | Start At Home | Disciple Blueprint Podcast | 30 sept. 2026 | 00:07:40 | |
Who Gets to Decide What Justice Means? Everyone seems to want justice, but we don't always mean the same thing when we use the word. So who gets to define it? For Christians, justice doesn't begin with a political party, cultural movement, or social-media campaign. Justice begins with the character of God. In this episode, Raymond examines several biblical principles of justice, including impartiality, truth, evidence, protection of the innocent, and accountability for wrongdoing. We'll also consider why biblical justice must use the same standard regardless of someone's wealth, poverty, influence, or political affiliation.
Deuteronomy 32:4; Leviticus 19:15; Proverbs 18:17; Proverbs 17:15; Romans 13:1–4; Isaiah 10:1–2 Key Question: Before deciding whether something is just, ask: What standard are we using? For Christians, that standard must ultimately come from God. Learn more and find additional resources at DiscipleBlueprint.com.
| If Government Does Less, Are Christians Willing to Do More? | Start at Home | Disciple Bueprint Podcast | 29 sept. 2026 | 00:07:28 | |
If Government Does Less, Are Christians Willing to Do More? It's easy to complain that government does too much. But if Christians believe government has assumed responsibilities belonging to families, churches, and individuals, there's another question we need to answer: Are we willing to take those responsibilities back? In this episode, Raymond uses Paul's instructions about caring for widows in 1 Timothy 5 to examine God's order of responsibility. Biblical compassion doesn't eliminate personal responsibility. Instead, Christians should care for genuine needs while helping people and families fulfill the responsibilities God has given them.
1 Timothy 5:4, 8, 16; Galatians 6:10; 2 Thessalonians 3:10 Key Question: Instead of only asking what government should stay out of, perhaps Christians should ask: What should we step back into? Learn more and find additional resources at DiscipleBlueprint.com.

When Should Government Stay Out of the Way? God established government, but did He establish government to do everything? In this episode of the Disciple Blueprint Podcast, Raymond looks at the boundaries of government through Romans 13 and asks an important question: Who did God make responsible for this? Scripture gives responsibilities not only to government but also to individuals, families, and the church. Using raising children and caring for widows as examples, we'll examine what happens when government begins assuming responsibilities God primarily entrusted somewhere else.
Romans 13:1–4; 1 Peter 2:13–14; Deuteronomy 6:6–7; Ephesians 6:4; Matthew 28:19–20; 1 Timothy 5:4–16 Key Question: Before asking government to solve a problem, ask: Who did God make responsible for this? Learn more and find additional resources at DiscipleBlueprint.com.
| Stop Listening to Campaign Promises? | Start at Home | 26 sept. 2026 | 00:10:33 | |
A politician tells you exactly what you want to hear. Should you believe them? Maybe—but don't stop with the promise. In this episode, we use three simple words for evaluating political candidates: Promise. Record. Power. What is the candidate promising? What does their actual record show? And does the office they're seeking have the constitutional or legal authority to accomplish what they're promising? We'll also talk about political advertising, edited clips, voting records, original sources, and why Christians need to investigate their own candidate with the same enthusiasm they use to investigate the other side. A disciple should be searching for truth, not ammunition. Scriptures discussed: Proverbs 18:17; Matthew 7:16; 1 Thessalonians 5:21; Proverbs 11:1. | What If Neither Candidate Deserves to Your Vote? | Start at Home | 25 sept. 2026 | 00:10:25
Have you ever looked at an election ballot and thought, “Seriously, these are my choices?” Christians don't usually get to choose between perfect candidates. We vote for imperfect people to serve in an imperfect government in a fallen world. So what do we do when both candidates give us legitimate reasons for concern? In this episode, we talk about character, policies, wisdom, conscience, and the difference between voting for someone and endorsing everything about that person. We also address the Christian who considers not voting because neither candidate seems good enough. Your vote doesn't transfer your allegiance to a politician. That still belongs to Christ. Scriptures discussed: Exodus 18:21; Proverbs 29:2; James 1:5. If this episode helped you think through difficult voting choices, share it with someone. | When Good Intentions Undermine God's Design | Start at Home | 24 sept. 2026 | 00:10:21
Can helping someone actually hurt them? Christians are commanded to care for people in need. But Scripture also shows that God designed responsibilities to operate through families, churches, and relationships. What happens when a well-intentioned government program begins replacing those responsibilities—or creates incentives that work against God's design? Using the Great Society and welfare policy as a case study, we examine the difference between good intentions and good outcomes. We also look at Paul's instructions for caring for widows in 1 Timothy 5 and the order of responsibility he established. The question isn't whether Christians should be compassionate. It's whether our compassion is being applied with biblical wisdom. Scriptures discussed: Proverbs 14:12; 1 Timothy 5:4, 8, 16; James 1:27; Galatians 6:10; Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:4–6; 1 John 3:16–18. | Who is Discipling Your Politics? | Start at Home | 23 sept. 2026 | 00:10:22
Why do you believe what you believe politically? Our political beliefs don't develop in a vacuum. Family, news, social media, commentators, political parties, fear, and confirmation bias can all shape how we think. The danger comes when Christians stop testing those influences against Scripture. In this episode, we explore the difference between a clear biblical command, a biblical principle that requires application, and a political judgment call where faithful Christians may reach different conclusions. We'll also look at the Bereans, who tested even Paul's teaching against Scripture. If they checked Paul, maybe we should check our favorite political commentator. Scriptures discussed: Romans 12:2; Acts 17:11; 1 Thessalonians 5:21; Proverbs 18:17; James 1:5; Philippians 3:20; Romans 14:1–4. | What Happens When Government Does Our Job? | Start at Home | 22 sept. 2026 | 00:11:40
What happens when families and churches stop carrying responsibilities God gave them and government steps in to fill the vacuum? Scripture clearly commands God's people to care for widows, orphans, struggling families, and people in genuine need. It also places significant responsibility on families to care for their own. Yet many of those responsibilities have gradually been transferred to government programs. In this episode, we look at the enormous financial cost of that transfer, but the bigger issue isn't money. Government can provide financial assistance, but it cannot replace relationships. A program can help pay an electric bill, but it can't sit beside a widow, pray with her, or become the church family she needs. Before Christians complain that government has gotten too big, we need to ask whether we're willing to take back the responsibilities God gave us. Scriptures discussed: James 1:27; 1 Timothy 5:8; Romans 13:1–7. If this episode challenged you, share it with someone and talk about it together. | Do Christians Have to Obey the Government? | Start at Home | 21 sept. 2026 | 00:11:14
Romans 13 tells Christians to submit to governing authorities. But Peter also said, “We must obey God rather than people.” So where is the line? In this episode, we look at what biblical submission to government actually means. Submission doesn't require agreement, political support, or silence when government is wrong. Christians can strongly disagree with those in authority while still respecting the authority of the office. We'll also examine Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, and the apostles to see what happens when government commands something that conflicts with God's Word. The question isn't simply, “Do I agree with this law?” but “Has God clearly commanded something different?” Scriptures discussed: Romans 13:1–7; 1 Peter 2:13–17; Acts 5:29; Daniel 3; Daniel 6. What Happens When Half the Body Doesn't Work?Episode SummaryFirst Corinthians 12 describes the church as a body made up of many different parts. So what happens when a large portion of that body decides not to function? In this episode, we consider what happens when a relatively small group of Christians carries most of the work while many others primarily attend. The functioning members compensate, take on more responsibilities, and eventually become tired, while the body never functions as God designed it to function.Your role may never involve preaching, teaching, or leading a ministry. It might be encouraging someone, helping behind the scenes, providing transportation, praying faithfully, discipling a younger believer, or noticing a need that others missed. The question is not whether you can do everything. Did You Hire the Pastor to Do Christianity for You?Episode SummarySometimes Christians treat the pastor as though he is the church's paid Christian—the person responsible for preaching, teaching, visiting, evangelizing, discipling, counseling, encouraging, and doing most of the ministry. But Ephesians 4 gives us a different picture. Pastors and teachers are called to equip the saints for the work of ministry. The biblical picture is not a pastor doing all the ministry while everyone else watches. It is a pastor helping equip a congregation that goes out and does ministry.Every believer has a responsibility to serve. That service may happen through teaching or an organized ministry, but it may also look like preparing a meal, encouraging someone who is hurting, welcoming a visitor, helping an older member, or giving someone a ride. You do not have to do everything. Christians are constantly being taught how to think through social media, entertainment, news, politicians, friends, schools, and countless other voices. The church should not become an arm of a political party. Its responsibility is more important than that: help Christians learn to think biblically. Romans 12 calls believers to be transformed by the renewing of their minds rather than conformed to this age. When a difficult cultural question arises, the disciple's first question should not be, “What does my party say?” or “What does the culture say?” It should be, “What has God said?”Listen & ShareIf this episode helped you, please like it or rate the show if your podcast platform allows it. What Is Church Supposed to Do for Me?Episode SummaryIf God designed the church to be part of the Christian life, what exactly should the church accomplish in us?Jesus told His followers to make disciples. That means the church should do more than provide a Sunday service. It should help Christians understand God's Word, know God better, renew the way they think, become more like Christ, and learn how to serve others. But there is another side to discipleship: your church cannot make you grow. A pastor can teach, a Sunday School teacher can prepare, and other Christians can encourage you, but you still have to respond to what God is teaching you. This episode challenges us to stop asking only, “What did I get out of church?” and begin asking, “How is God using my church to help me become a better follower of Jesus—and what am I going to do with what He is teaching me?”Listen & ShareIf this episode helped you, please like it or rate the show if your podcast platform allows it. You can stream a sermon, listen to worship music, and study Scripture online, but there are some things technology simply cannot reproduce. In this episode, we look at the difference between content and community. Some of the most meaningful ministry in a church happens in ordinary conversations: checking on someone who is hurting, encouraging a child, listening to someone going through a difficult season, helping an older member, or simply providing a ride when someone needs one.We also turn the usual question around. Instead of only asking, “What can I get from church?” perhaps Christians should also ask, “What can I give?” Healthy churches are built through ordinary believers noticing one another, caring for one another, and using what God has given them to serve one another.Listen & ShareIf this episode helped you, please like it or rate the show if your podcast platform allows it. Can I Follow Jesus Without Going to Church? Episode Summary Today, Christians have access to more biblical teaching than perhaps any generation before us. Bible apps, online sermons, worship music, podcasts, devotionals, and Christian videos can all help us learn and grow without ever leaving home. So do we really need the local church? In this episode, we look at the difference between receiving Christian content and actually being part of the body of Christ. Online resources can be valuable—I use them myself—but they cannot fully reproduce being known by other believers, serving alongside them, carrying one another's burdens, or having someone notice when we're struggling. God did not design Christians to follow Jesus in isolation. Online Christian content can supplement the local church, but it cannot substitute for the relationships and responsibilities that come with being part of the body of Christ. If you stopped going to church for a month, who would notice? And there's another side to that question: if someone else disappeared for a month, would you notice? It's possible to attend the same church for years, recognize dozens of faces and still remain mostly unknown. But the New Testament describes something much deeper than simply sitting together during a worship service. In this episode, Raymond looks at Acts 2:42, Galatians 6:2 and 1 Corinthians 12 to explore fellowship, carrying one another's burdens and what it means to function as part of the body of Christ. We'll also talk about why watching a church service online can provide valuable content but can't replace genuine relationships, and how serving alongside other believers can turn familiar faces into people we actually know and care about. Church isn't supposed to be an audience we sit in. God designed us to participate in one another's lives. Sunday morning has a lot more competition than it used to. Sports leagues schedule games. The weather is perfect for outdoor activities. We've had an exhausting week and would rather sleep in. And with church services available online, it's easy to tell ourselves we'll just watch later. In this episode, Raymond starts with a real-life Sunday Pony Football game and asks a larger question: When church and something else compete for the same place on our calendar, how do we decide what wins? Using Hebrews 10:24–25, we'll look at the difference between treating church as an elective and making gathering with other believers part of our normal rhythm. We'll also consider what our repeated Sunday choices are teaching our families. But showing up isn't the finish line. Church was never intended to be about earning a weekly attendance sticker. Gathering should eventually lead us toward participation, relationships, encouragement and service. | Stop Trying to Fix Everybody in Your Family | 03 sept. 2026 | 00:10:16
Have you ever had someone in your family you desperately wanted to change? When we love someone, it's difficult to watch them make decisions we believe are hurting them. We may speak truth, offer advice, send Scripture and keep having the same conversations, but eventually we have to recognize the difference between what God has given us responsibility for and what we simply cannot control. In this episode, Raymond uses Romans 12:18—“If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone”—to help us think through difficult family relationships. What depends on you? Your words, attitude, forgiveness, apologies and sometimes the boundaries you establish. What doesn't depend on you? Another person's response, repentance or choices. We can faithfully love the people in our families without trying to do the work that belongs to God. | God Has Always Worked Through Messy Families | Disciple Blueprint Podcast | 02 sept. 2026 | 00:10:59
Joseph's family was a mess. Favoritism, jealousy, resentment, deception and betrayal were already part of the family long before Joseph became a ruler in Egypt. Yet when Scripture tells Joseph's story, we discover that human brokenness never prevented God from working. In this episode, Raymond looks closely at Joseph's family and what their story can teach us about our own. We may inherit unhealthy patterns and wounds that we didn't create, but we still have choices about what we do with them. Joseph's story doesn't give us a simple formula for fixing every broken family. It does remind us that our family history doesn't have to control our future and that God can continue working in us even when our relationships aren't what we wish they were. Twenty years from now, what will your children or grandchildren remember about your faith? It may not be the formal lessons you taught them. Often, the things that stay with us are the ordinary moments: watching someone pray when life gets difficult, seeing a parent apologize when they're wrong or recognizing through everyday choices what truly matters to them. In this episode, Raymond shares the memory of his grandmother sitting at the piano singing The Old Rugged Cross and considers how our families are learning from us even when we don't realize they're watching. What do you do when you want to lead your family spiritually, but nobody ever showed you how? If you didn't grow up in a home where your parents prayed with you, read Scripture with you or modeled spiritual leadership, it can feel like you're trying to figure everything out on your own. In this episode, Raymond looks at how we can learn from faithful people God places around us. Using Paul's words in 1 Corinthians 11:1 and the example of Timothy, we'll talk about finding people whose lives are worth learning from while remembering that Jesus and God's Word remain our ultimate standard. You don't have to recreate someone else's family, and you don't have to repeat the home you grew up in. You took them to church. You taught them about Jesus. You prayed for them. You tried to live your faith in front of them. Then they grew up—and they walked away. For a Christian parent or grandparent, few questions hurt more than: “What did I do wrong?” This is a deeply personal episode for Raymond. Neither of his adult children regularly attends church today, and he openly discusses the questions he still asks himself about what he could have done differently. But Scripture makes an important distinction between our responsibility and God's responsibility. Parents are called to teach, love, pray, model Christ, speak truth, and repent when they fail. We were never given the ability to make another human being surrender to Jesus. In this episode, Raymond looks at Proverbs 22:6, parental guilt, the difference between conviction and condemnation, and Paul's reminder that we may plant and water—but God gives the growth. Your family probably learns more about your faith by watching you than by listening to you talk about it. They see how you respond when you're angry. They notice whether you pray. They see whether Scripture actually affects your decisions. They watch how you treat people, whether you forgive, whether you apologize when you're wrong, and whether Jesus makes any practical difference in your everyday life. In this episode, Raymond looks at Deuteronomy 6 and the responsibility we have to spiritually influence the people God has placed closest to us. Surrender sounds good until God allows something you never planned. It's easy to say, “God, Your will be done,” when His will seems to line up with ours. But what happens when the job disappears? The opportunity doesn't happen? The door closes? The future suddenly looks nothing like the one you had planned? That's when surrender stops being theoretical. In this episode, Raymond shares from his own experience of being fired from his position as a CTO and sitting in his Honda HR-V afterward wondering, “What now, Lord?” Sometimes God changes our direction in ways we don't understand. The question is whether we trust Him only when we understand the plan—or whether we trust the One who sees what we cannot. In this episode:

| Have You Really Surrendered Your Life to God? | 26 août 2026 | 00:16:25 | |
Christians talk a lot about surrender. We sing about it. We pray about it. We tell God, “I surrender everything.”But what does surrender actually mean when God wants something different than we do?In this episode, Raymond looks at surrender as more than an emotional moment. Biblical surrender means voluntarily yielding to God's authority. If Jesus is Lord, then He isn't merely someone we ask to bless the decisions we've already made. He has the right to direct them. That affects our relationships, priorities, finances, church involvement, politics, careers, and every other part of life. The real question isn't whether we call Jesus Lord. It's whether we're willing to let Him be Lord when obedience costs us something. In this episode:What biblical surrender actually meansWhy surrender involves authorityThe difference between asking God to bless our plans and submitting to HisWhy selective obedience isn't really surrenderWhat it means for Jesus to be Lord over every area of lifeHow to identify areas we're still trying to controlContinue the Start at Home Series:https://www.discipleblueprint.com/startathomeFree Resources:Explore free Bible studies, guides, and resources designed to help you grow as a follower of Christ:https://www.discipleblueprint.com/freestuff/If this episode challenged you, share it with someone else. | What Do You Say to God When You Have Nothing to Say? - Start at Home | 25 août 2026 | 00:14:44
Episode 37 — What Do You Say to God When You Have Nothing to Say? Sometimes the hardest part of prayer is simply figuring out what to say. You sit down to pray. You know you should talk to God. You may even want to talk to Him. And then...nothing. In this episode, Raymond gets practical about those moments. Prayer doesn't require a speech, a formula, or thirty minutes of carefully organized requests. God already knows what's happening in your life. You can begin exactly where you are. That might mean telling God you're tired, frustrated, confused, grateful—or even admitting that you don't feel like praying. Prayer becomes much more natural when we stop trying to sound spiritual and start talking honestly to the God who already knows us completely. In this episode:

Episode 36 — Why Does God Want Us to Pray? If God already knows what you need before you ask Him, why pray? That question gets to the heart of what prayer actually is. Prayer isn't about giving God information He doesn't have or finding the perfect words that will somehow get His attention. It's about relationship. In this episode, Raymond looks at Jesus' teaching on prayer and asks whether we've made prayer more complicated than God intended. Drawing from Scripture and his own relationship with Wendy, he explores what happens when we stop treating prayer like a religious obligation and start seeing it as conversation with our Heavenly Father. If you've ever struggled with prayer, wondered what you're supposed to say, or felt guilty because your prayer life isn't what you think it should be, this episode is for you. In this episode:

In this episode of the Disciple Blueprint Podcast, we're making daily Bible reading considerably simpler. Have you ever finished reading a chapter of the Bible only to realize a few minutes later that you can't remember what you read? If so, it's reasonable to ask how Bible reading is supposed to transform us. In this episode of the Disciple Blueprint Podcast, we move beyond “Christians should read their Bibles” and examine why Scripture matters in the first place. According to 2 Timothy 3:16–17, God's Word teaches, rebukes, corrects, and trains us. It gives us God's perspective against which we can test the assumptions we've absorbed from family, culture, experiences, news, and social media. The goal isn't simply to get through the Bible. It's to allow God's Word to get into us. In this episode:

Most Christians would say God is directing their lives. But there's another question worth asking: Do we actually seek God's direction, or do we make our own plans and then ask Him to bless them? There's a significant difference between wanting God's help and surrendering to God's leadership. In this episode of the Disciple Blueprint Podcast, we explore what it means to trust God when we cannot see the entire road ahead. God's direction doesn't guarantee an easy life, and Scripture never promises that obedience will eliminate difficulty. It does promise that the God leading us sees what we cannot see and knows what we cannot know. Following Christ means more than inviting God along for the ride. It means letting Him choose the direction. In this episode:

You've probably heard Christians describe their priorities this way: God first, family second, church third, work fourth. But does God really belong at the top of a list—or should He be at the center of everything on it? In this episode of the Disciple Blueprint Podcast, we examine what it really means to put God first. Following Christ isn't about giving God a few minutes in the morning before moving on to the rest of our lives. Biblical surrender means allowing Him to shape our families, work, finances, relationships, decisions, politics, priorities, and even our thought lives. But what if the most important ministry God has given you is already sitting across the dinner table? Rather than waiting for a bigger opportunity, Jesus calls us to be faithful with what God has already placed in our hands. Your family, neighbors, coworkers, friends, and church family aren't interruptions while you wait for your “real” ministry to begin. They may be the very people God is calling you to influence today. We spend enormous amounts of time arguing about elections, politicians, laws, and what Washington should do to fix the problems facing our country. Government matters, and Scripture gives it a legitimate role—but there are some things government simply cannot do. In this episode of the Disciple Blueprint Podcast, we look at the difference between changing behavior from the outside and the transformation that only Christ can accomplish from the inside. Government can restrain wrongdoing, enforce laws, and maintain order, but it cannot change a greedy heart, heal hatred, create faithfulness, or cause someone to love Christ. If we want to see lasting change in our country, perhaps we need to stop looking first toward Washington and start asking what God wants to change in us and in the people within our own sphere of influence.
