Transformers22 nov. 202102:02:29

Adam and Brent get into 'Transformers' with Delfinpod head honcho Emmanuel! They talk about what makes the action in this Michael Bay movie different from his others, other iconic franchises from the early-to-mid 2000's, and ponder why the leads of the movie had sex on top of their sentient car! It's a loose, fun one to welcome listeners back after our brief break, and only two episodes are left this season so we hope you enjoy!

Sucker Punch04 oct. 202101:31:33

Adam and Brent get into Zack Snyder's audacious yet messy 2011 action film 'Sucker Punch'! They break down what works about it and what doesn't, where the disconnect might be for fully hitting on all cylinders, and what it means to make 'commentary about geek culture' and the inherent irony in doing so! They also praise Oscar Isaac for bringing a ton of integrity to a role that doesn't really call for it. It's a great breakdown of a real mixed bag of a movie and the guys had a good time getting into it!

Pearl Harbor16 août 202101:43:21

Adam and Brent break down Michael Bay's box-office hit and critical failure 'Pearl Harbor'! They get into comparisons to other epics of the time (especially Titanic), where it fails in comparison, but also ways it could've been really special. They also do their first live commentary on Brent experiencing the R-rated scenes that make up the extended edition that actually turned out to exist, despite Brent gaslighting Adam via the Mandela effect! It's a fun, tangent-heavy episode, shorter than most, ironically on one of the longest movies of the podcasts yet, so enjoy and thanks for subscribing/listening/reviewing!

******This episode also contains a secret, nested review of 'Space Jam: A New Legacy' the boys meant to record weeks ago but didn't because it drained them physically, emotionally and spiritually, so enjoy******

GOTTI24 août 202001:46:37

It’s our first random grab-bag bonus episode this season, and we decided to watch Kevin Connolly’s ‘Gotti’. It’s a truly awful movie that the guys had a lot of fun watching, with plenty of fun things to get into about what makes it such a badly executed riff on gangster movie tropes. There’s a lot of Scorsese talk in this one, what makes this movie feel so immature and derivative, as well as John Travolta’s weird and pretty tragic life and career. Brent also has a pretty long tangent about watching all of Entourage. It’s a bit of a wacky one, so we hope you enjoy. Make sure to recommend the show to someone you know, rate/review on your podcast app of choice, and thanks for listening!

The fellas talk about mid-to-late 2000’s indie films, the oddly massive impact of Napoleon Dynamite, and some of their issues with Waititi’s first film! It’s a fascinating first movie to start a career, as Waititi has grown into one of Hollywood’s biggest current “It” celebrities and creators. If you haven’t seen ‘Eagle vs Shark’ prior to the podcast (we wouldn’t be surprised) it’s worth a watch to see where Taika started and to chart how much he’s grown since. Stay safe and indoors out there everyone!

Shaun of the Dead13 avr. 202001:28:48

It’s finally time for Season 8 of Director Showdown: Edgar Wright vs. Taika Waititi, kicking things off with 2004’s ‘Shaun of the Dead’! We’re talking lighter fare this season, since the whole damn world is locked inside and quarantined. We’ve also been talking about covering comedy directors since practically the beginning, deciding on these two guys, each with their own careers climbing the zeitgeist and building interesting filmographies. On this season opener talking ‘Shaun of the Dead’, the guys lay out what’s coming ahead, get into Wright’s unique, and modern culmination of visual storytelling, foreshadowing and callbacks, and their favorite zombie movies! We hope you’ll join us with a nice, comfy quarantine season of entertaining comedies while we all wait for this to blow over!

Cats30 mars 202001:18:42

Listen, you guys asked for it and here it is. Our shortest episode with a fittingly weird energy to discuss Tom Hooper’s cinematic travesty, ‘Cats’. We get into the financial loss of the movie, the indecision of any strong choices to make it something more interesting, and the inherent hubris of attempting a Cats cinematic adaptation in the first place. This will be our last bonus episode for season 7, and we’re getting under way with the next series ASAP (as we’re all locked away in quarantine anyway, might as well be productive!) Thanks so much for being patient with our chaotic release pattern and for spreading the show to friends and family, please continue to do so!

Dealer’s Choice: Wet Hot American Summer23 mars 202002:04:56

Adam and Brent are finally back with this seasons Dealers Choice winner ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ with Erik Casarez! It’s the first ‘good’ movie of the 4 Dealer’s Choice competitions we’ve had so far, and the fellas enjoy getting into the nitty gritty of David Wain’s cult comedy classic! The first on-screen appearance of Bradley Cooper, the comedy style of Wain and his comedy troupe ‘The State’, as well as why Wet Hot American Summer was misunderstood at the time and the importance of ‘time and place’ to a films success. All these topics, as well as Tom Nook’s crooked business practices and tangents about loving Paul Rudd make this an all-time bonus ep! Thank you all for being patient with our release schedule, we’ll be getting back to a regular release cycle soon, what with having to stay indoors for the next 3+ months or so.

Zero Dark Thirty03 févr. 202001:51:33

Adam and Brent finally wrap up season 7 with Bigelow’s acclaimed Bin Laden manhunt film ‘Zero Dark Thirty’! They get into the complicated legacy of the film, it’s depiction of torture scenes as well as the intense and realistic raid at the end of Zero Dark Thirty! Aside from that, they get into a brief ‘Chris Pratt Chat Corner’, talk Deuce Bigelow’s relation to Kathryn Bigelow, and an overall discussion and ranking for the season overall (with a few VERY surprising placements). Thank you all so incredibly much for listening to the show, telling your friends about it, and especially being patient during the few gaps we had between episodes (we’re busy boys with busy, chaotic lives!)

We’ll be back within a week or two with DIRECTOR SHOWDOWN DEALER’S CHOICE 4! We have no goddamn clue what it’ll be, so make sure you’re subscribed so it pops up in the feed!

Adam and Brent are once again joined by Amy Kidwell to talk James Cameron’s box-office behemoth ‘Titanic’! They get into their personal histories with Titanic, it’s place in society as a huge cultural touchstone for generations, and the sexual awakenings caused by Leo DiCaprio. Some other topics are tangents into practical vs. digital VFX, balancing a romance with set pieces and how James Cameron used prior successes to become ‘king of the world’! It’s a wild episode, even by our standards, so enjoy and thanks for listening!

Strange Days16 déc. 201901:42:03

Adam and Brent are once again joined by friend David Rodriguez to discuss Kathryn Bigelow’s millenium-epic ‘Strange Days’! They talk the movies many themes, how it represents the era of late 90’s/early 2000’s , the ‘squid’ technology, and how it’s box office failure knocked her career off course for a decade. It’s a great, tangent-y talk about a very solid and under-seen/under-discussed movie, so we hope you watch it if you haven’t. As always, thank you for listening, and make sure to like, comment and subscribe to the pod wherever you get them and have a great Christmas and New Year!

PROGRAMMING NOTE: WE’LL BE TAKING A SHORT BREAK FOR CHRISTMAS AND (FITTINGLY ENDING ON THIS MOVIE) NEW YEARS. WE’LL BE BACK IN JANUARY WITH TITANIC!

After that, they take a moment to highlight their favorite directors of the decade, and their favorite year since 2010.
