Season 7 Episode 6 - Shear Haven: Beauty, Safety, and the Power of Connection01 Apr 202600:46:49

What a complete joy and privilege it was to spend time with a guest whose story embodies compassion, courage, and change. With over 30 years as a salon owner and stylist, she has witnessed first-hand the power of connection, trust, and empathy within the beauty industry. Her career has always been about more than transforming hair—it’s been about creating safe spaces where people can truly be seen and heard.

As a survivor of domestic violence, she understands the profound difference that one caring person can make. This insight inspired her to co-found Shear Haven, an initiative that trains beauty professionals to recognize the signs of domestic abuse and connect clients to help. To date, Shear Haven’s free training has reached over 150,000 individuals across more than 100 countries, empowering salon professionals to become a lifeline for those in need.

In 2020, her advocacy led to groundbreaking legislation in Tennessee, making this training mandatory for all licensed beauty professionals. Today, she continues to drive this mission forward through the bipartisan Salon Stories Act, working to ensure that every salon professional in the United States has access to this vital, life-saving education.

Her mission is clear and powerful: to reach every licensed beauty professional with the knowledge and tools to support survivors and help build safer, more compassionate communities.

Season 6 Episode 1 Michelle John PEGS - Child to Parent Abuse Expert19 Jun 202500:45:56

NEW SEASON! And what a season it will be....

I had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with the magnificent, Michelle John Founder of PEGS. Her aim is to reduce the impact of CPA by helping parents, training frontline professionals, impacting policy and raising awareness.

"Child to Parent Abuse is where a child (of any age) displays repeated abusive behaviours towards a parental figure. This abuse may be physical, verbal, economic, digital, coercive or even sexual - and it's thought to occur in at least 3% of UK homes, although the real figure could be much higher.

CPA is not 'normal' challenging behaviour experienced by most parents. It causes parents to feel fearful, isolated and like they're treading on eggshells, forces them to leave their careers and change their routines and lifestyles, and has a profound impact on families." https://www.pegsupport.co.uk/

Aimee Says, is dedicated to helping individuals as they navigate the path towards safety and healing, not just for themselves but also for those they cherish.

Anne is passionate about transforming the discourse around intimate partner violence and advocating for a narrative that holds perpetrators accountable.

In 2023, founders Anne Wintemute and Steven Nichols saw that even the most dedicated human supports could never meet the scale of need. Abuse is widespread, its patterns are complex, and survivors often face their hardest moments in isolation. The two began testing whether advanced AI could recognize the recurring dynamics of power and control in abusive relationships—and respond with empathy, accuracy, and practical guidance at any hour of the day.

And her private practice quickly flooded with women recounting an all-too-familiar story of abuse.

Her book, Run Like Hell, offers the reader both her personal experience and professional expertise to explain the behaviors of pathological lovers (PL), reveal the traits of women who become the “victims” of PLs, how women can leave safely, and most importantly, heal.

Nadine shows how women can be "surthrivers" of these trauma bonds and go on to have healthy, positive relationships and lives armed with knowledge and awareness.
