It's no secret that I've had a love/hate/obsessional relationship with Mortification over the years, however no matter the ups and downs they have remained one of my all time favorite bands since I was in highschool. Join me on the first leg of Mortification's journey into becoming a band that would go on to change Christian Metal forever, from the band's early day's as Lightforce all the way through Post Momentary Affliction. Living Sacrifice has had one of the largest impacts on Christian Metal out of any band that I can think of. Originating in the late 1980's and early 1990's Living Sacrifice released a trilogy of albums that explored the extremity of Thrash and Death Metal and they would go on to influence countless bands as well as set the band up to transition into one of the most popular metalcore bands in the Christian music scene as well as metal at large. If the first album you've ever heard from the band is Reborn. You might be curious to hear what the band was up to before that.

Some albums teach us what it means to be cool and gives us something to emulate, but there are some albums that are content with just meeting us where we are at a certain time in our lives. Underoath's The Changing of Times embodies the feeling of being a teenager, that feeling of trying to move forward towards adulthood but being stuck in our past. The Mechanical Hand by Horse the Band is a misunderstood record. You might think it’s just a light hearted and fun record that evokes childhood nostalgia, and you’d be right, but there is so much under the surface of these familiar sounds that you may miss the first time you hear it. I did. However in this episode I attempt to explain the depth of this record through relating it to the same struggles I have faced in my own life. I hope you enjoy it.
