35 | Job Searching isn't Easy!13 Mar 202400:06:27

Job searching isn’t easy.

You may have heard that:

> The job market is more competitive

> Getting a job is harder than ever

> People are applying for thousands of jobs and not hearing back

While those things are true – it’s not the case for everyone.

Some people are getting job offers and transitioning careers to their dream job.

If you are deep in the job search process, here are 3 things you can do to support yourself during this transition:

> Be realistic in your Expectations

Remember for online applications there is about a 5% response rate. That means to get one response you would need to apply for 20 jobs. (on average)

(That’s why networking is key!)

> Take Time for Self-Care

Job searching can be challenging on your mental health and confidence. Take time for yourself and build supports throughout the process.

> Re-Evaluate your Strategy

Tracking your applications can help you see where there might be roadblocks in your job search.

Do you keep getting rejected after submitting online? It’s time to revamp that resume.

Do you struggle with getting second interviews? Time to brush up on your interview skills.

Take a listen to this weeks podcast episode on Destination: Dream Job for all the details!

Your personal brand is really what will set you apart in your career. ➡ Check out the 5 biggest mistakes people make with their personal brand. 💡 But first, what is a personal brand? It’s a combination of your resume and cover letter, LinkedIn profile, and other public social media profiles. 🎙 Today on the Destination Dream Job Podcast, I talked about the 5 biggest mistakes when it comes to your personal brand. Tune in to hear the full episode! ❌ Inconsistency across platforms You want to be known for one thing – make sure all your branding reflects this. ❌ Keeping your personal profiles set to public. 91% of hiring managers review social profiles, if you don’t want them seeing it, set it to private. ❌ Not leveraging LinkedIn LinkedIn is a great way to have a living resume, an opportunity for hiring managers and recruiters to find you with minimal effort on your part. ❌ Listing tasks instead of accomplishments on your resume When you list accomplishments you prove to the reader that you are really good at what you say you are. ❌ Forgetting to send thank you letters after an interview. We all have a lot of different skills, but sometimes it’s a challenge to figure out which direction to take. Over the next 3 weeks, I will delve into 5 Steps to Finding and Pursuing your passion.

First things first is I will shatter the myth that we have to choose one career/business path for life. I'm here to tell you, no matter where you are in your career or entrepreneurial journey, it's never too late to start fresh.

The first step to finding and pursuing your passion is to Start to Dream again.

Remember those days when you were bursting with dreams and plans in your early 20s? Then life happened, and dreaming took a back seat. I get it. But guess what? You can start dreaming again. And believe me, it's a game-changer.

Here are a few ways to get started:

> Self-reflection: Find a quiet spot and ponder over questions like, "What used to excite me in the past?" and "If I could do anything, what would it be?"

> Pay Attention to Inspirational Stories: We all have our heroes. Some will resonate with you and some won’t. Paying attention helps us figure out why.

> Step out of your Comfort Zone: Staying complacent keeps us stuck.

> Try a vision board: Notice what resonates with you and what themes you notice.

Don’t forget to tune in next week, we'll be digging into Steps 2 and 3 of your passion-finding journey.

13 | Embracing the Journey: Why Patience Matters in Business06 Sep 202300:06:39

Are you in the early stages of your business and are frustrated by how slow things are going?

I totally get it!

Starting a business is really exciting, you create your goals and your dreams for the next 5 years, where you would like your business to be, and how you want to get there.

But then, it starts to lose its excitement.

So, you start to change your program, analyze your offering, adjust your pricing strategy, or look at yet another certification.

While all that stuff is important, sometimes it becomes busy work to distract from what you really need to be doing and that is outreach, networking, and marketing.

Most of the time it’s not a product problem, it’s a marketing problem.

Especially if you are like me, you love helping people, working with them but putting yourself out there online makes you feel uncomfortable.

Here are 4 tips if you are feeling frustrated in the early stages of your business:

  1. Stop comparing your beginning to their middle.

Everyone starts at the beginning and goes through the same struggles that we all go through when we start something new.

  1. Have patience

Building a business takes time, it’s not an overnight success. Focus on the right things and your business will grow one step at a time.

  1. Account for the stage of life you are in

If you have young kids or your goal is to spend more time with your family, do it! You don’t need to revolve your whole life around your business.

  1. Don’t give up

If you know there is a market for your business idea, don’t give up. Keep going!

You’ve got this!

If you have been trying to think of a great business idea, I recently started Business Brainstorm Sessions where you can get on a call with me for 45min and we can brainstorm your business ideas.

With my expertise, I can get to know your background and skills and easily see what skills you have that will translate well into business.

10 | Finding your Why: The Key to Staying Motivated in Business02 Aug 202300:06:17

Finding your Why is the best way to stay motivated when building a business.

Your why is the reason for being in business, why you are willing to put yourself out of your comfort zone and achieve your dream life.

When I first started my business, my why was to replace my income.  When I achieved that goal, I got comfortable in my business.  What I noticed is that my business started to become stagnant.

I re-discovered my why and am as excited as ever about business.

My why is to help people build a life they don’t need a vacation from and to build both financial and time freedom into my own life.

What is your why? If you are thinking of starting a business you need to get clear on your why.

Here are some questions to help you figure it out:

  • What does my ideal life look like?
  • If I could wave a magic wand and change 2 things – what would they be?
  • If I had all the money in the world, what would I spend my time doing?
  • Why do I want to start a business?
  •

If you need some help figuring out your why, get a mentor, coach or accountability partner.

This episode was one of my favourites because I love LinkedIn and think there is so much untapped value!

Did you know there are over 900 million LinkedIn users now? Wow! That’s a lot of people.

LinkedIn is a powerful networking tool for relationship marketing.

The thing she said that stood out to me the most was:

“If you’re going to have a LinkedIn profile at all, make it a good one.” – Janice Porter

  • When you send real cards in the mail, they get opened 100% of the time and move people from the head to their heart and build a true connection.

Transitioning from being an employee to an entrepreneur requires a significant mindset shift.

With Roy's expertise, he shares his journey from Employee to Entrepreneur.  His journey showcases the challenges and rewards of embracing an entrepreneurial mindset, thinking outside the box, and fostering a growth mindset.

As an employee, we work within a structured framework and follow the company's vision. However, as an entrepreneur, we become responsible for creating our own vision and thinking outside the box. Entrepreneurs need to learn to think critically, solve problems, and explore different angles to seize opportunities.

A growth mindset is so important, which encompasses curiosity, thinking outside the box, and critical thinking. Having an open mind and a willingness to explore different possibilities and solutions is crucial.

These pros and cons are personal to me.  They are why I stay in business and also what I struggled with most at the beginning.

Pros:

1. Control over schedule and time: you get to choose what's important to you and how you want to spend your time.

2. Unlimited earning potential: ditch the glass ceiling and make your financial goals a reality.

3. Pursue a purposeful career: do something you love and define your own purpose.

Cons:

1. Business can be unpredictable and your income can fluctuate but you can start a side hustle and build your business while you still have a full-time income.

2. Self-promotion can be awkward at first but I have met some really great people through networking and promoting my business.

6 | What is my Business Idea? 5 Questions to Ask Yourself05 Jul 202300:06:08

I’m not an expert in anything so I don’t know what business to start.

I hear this so often from my clients.  You don’t need to be an expert in your field to start, you just need a 10% edge.

We all have something we are good at that we can share with the world.

Here are 5 questions to ask yourself to get started with some business ideas:

  1. What are you passionate about?
  2. When do you experience flow?
  3. What life experience have you walked through?
  4. What do your family and friends say about you?
  5. What do people ask you about?

So many businesses are built on past experiences.  What is your idea? What is one thing you can think of that will make a difference?

Remember, your business doesn’t have to be something you plan to do for the rest of your life.  Sometimes you just need that one idea to get started.

If you have a business idea, I would love to hear from you.  Fire me an email and share your idea so I can cheer you on!

Don’t have an idea or know where to start? No problem, book a discovery call with me and I can help you get started.

4 | Does your Business Feel Like a Prison: How to have Business Boundaries21 Jun 202300:07:37

Have you heard the saying, I quit my job to have more freedom and now I work 24/7 for myself?

I have and I hate it!  I don’t believe that is what business is about.

Yes, in the beginning, it can require more time to build systems and grow your business, but you should always have boundaries.

When I first started, I had been working day and night, responding to messages the minute they came in, afraid to take breaks from my phone in case I missed something.

I hired a business coach who told me to have business hours, just like a regular business.

I took her advice, created business hours, and responded to messages and emails only during those times and it completely changed my life.

Here are a few ways I gain control over my time:

-Don’t share my phone number with clients

-Determine how much money I needed to make

-Remember my Why

-Paid myself right away

-Set Business Hours

Take a listen and learn more about the ways I set boundaries and how it changed my business and life!
