Scholarships can help to relieve the financial burden of tuition in school, which is why it is my passion and goal to continue awarding dental hygiene students money with the Dental Hygiene Basics Scholarship! After graduating with her associate's in dental hygiene in 2011, she immediately began a bachelor's completion program through Old Dominion University. Candice discusses how her career as a dental hygienist has helped her in her new role as a myofunctional therapist. She also covers tips for writing your personal statement, the lack of bachelor's dental hygiene programs in Colorado, and how to find patients for dental hygiene school. On this episode, Dana meets with Amanda Zubricki. Amanda is a clinical dental hygienist who operates the non-profit "That Deaf RDH Foundation." She graduated from Northern Virginia Community College in 2017. Her foundation provides scholarships to deaf and hard-of-hearing dental hygiene students. Amanda discusses how she applied to dental hygiene school three times. She actually ended up appealing her third rejection letter to dental hygiene school which helped her finally get accepted! Amanda overcame rejection, feelings of self doubt, and failure to succeed in her goal of earning her RDH license! She is an inspiration to anyone applying to dental hygiene school.

The host of the DH Basics Podcast steps out of the interrogation role this week to be interviewed. Jessica comes back on to interview Dana, and Dana tells her story of the world's craziest dental hygiene interview. Dana has technically been rejected by admissions committees 4 times, but she didn't let that stop her. She says time only made her stronger, and she encourages students to consider delaying their applications to dental hygiene school if it will make them a stronger applicant.
