Shockingly, Mike and Johnson have different thoughts when it comes to the Discovery finale.

At this point, we're publishing once a month! But life is busy and full of the unexpected.

It's definitely been a long road and we're not sure how we got here, but Star Trek Discovery is over. On this week's episode, we talk about the series finale, "Life, Itself." We catch up on some news first, including the Paramount/Skydance deal (is it happening...?) and Holly Hunter's casting on Starfleet Academy.

Our series finale deep dive then has us talking about the past, present, and future of the Discovery crew. Who had the best character arcs - and who had the worst? What did we think about the coda - and do we care about the tie-in to Calypso? Listen to find out!

And after another unexpected break, we find out that we have four episodes of Discovery to catch up on! This is fine.

April is but a distant memory, and we find ourselves in May - with Memorial Day right around the corner! Unfortunately, this means that we have NOT been keeping up with recording, and before you know it we have a backlog. But not to fear! We'll get through it in less than two hours somehow.

This week, we chat about Jinaal, Face the Strange, Mirrors, and Whistlespeak (it was a challenge just to remember all these episode titles). Discovery Season 5 is definitely ending up to be one of the stronger and consistent seasons of the series - but what did we think about each of these episodes? Listen and find out!

We've returned from a short hiatus with a special guest! This week we have Matt Jennings, fellow Star Trek fan and member of the LGBTQIA+ community. As a multi-talented artist who has pursued a career in the performing arts, Matt has spearheded 1701: A Blerd Story - a self referential web series that examines his life as a Black Gay Nerd. We chat with Matt about his show, his inspiration, and where he's taking things next.

Of course, we also can't help but to talk about some of the latest Star Trek news - including where we are with Star Trek Picard Season 3, and the impending final season of Star Trek Discovery plus lots of Deep Space Nine love. Join us for our thoughts and banter!

Mike and Johnson discuss their experience on the Star Trek Original Series Set Tour, which was simply amazing. We then get into "The Sanctuary," an episode that has us diving a bit deeper into Book... but Mike and Johnson care more about everything else that's going with the other characters. Speaking of, perhaps "manifest" should stay in contention for Saru's consideration? We then drop by Deanna's office, where we share about what we've been up to, and lament the end to the holiday break.

This week, we dive into the excellent "Unification III," which is not only big on the fan service, but is also effective at tying multiple series, storylines, and character arcs together. We then dive into some off topic - we chat about The Crown (Johnson really needs to start up this separate podcast), The Mandalorian (which deserves a separate season deep dive all its own), and all the other shows we've been binging and enjoying leading up to the holidays. Oh, and Johnson's dad died - RIP.

We start this episode by sharing a bit about what we've been Star Trekking: Mike is speeding through his Voyager rewatch, while Johnson has reached the last episode of Enterprise (but all good things must come to an end). New level reached! We arrive at Federation/Starfleet Headquarters, but it's not long before our heroes are sent onto another fetch quest. During the journey, Nhan decides to take a vacation on a Federation seed ship - will we ever see her again? Questions are raised if anyone really cares; although we like Rachel, we won't miss Nhan that much... Apparently, downsizing still exists in the 32nd century, by 1 at least. Mike and Johnson then drop by Dina's (it's DEANNA) to share some life updates. IYKYK.

After another week's absence, Mike and Johnson return with a jam packed episode. We marvel at Tilly's emotional insight in "People of Earth," before attending the Discovery family's awkward dinner in "Forget Me Not." We then explore the journey of Adira's character, and if it'll live up to the expectations of the LGBTQ+ community...but as an aside, is Gray a force ghost? In an extensive off topic segment, Mike talks about his binge watch of Community and the start of The Mandalorian's second season, while Johnson ponders a spinoff podcast about The Crown.

After a week's absence, Mike and Johnson are back! They drop by Counselor Troi's office for a quick visit to talk about what's been going on in their personal lives, before sharing their thoughts on S3E2 of Discovery, "Far From Home." Reactions were positive for this episode - while not too much happened plot wise, it was great just to catch up with the crew of the Discovery. And is parasitic ice really a thing?

We've arrived at the end of Season 1 of Lower Decks, a bittersweet moment indeed! Mike and Johnson delve into Mariner's psyche in "Crisis Point" and "No Small Parts," and chat about their feelings on the first season as a whole. We then go into some lengthy off topic, which includes discussions about The Last of Us Part 2, The Boys, Lovecraft Country, The Boys in the Band, and The Haunting of Bly Manor. Mike discusses the plans he has for his day off (Indigenous Peoples' Day is NOT a bank holiday Mike!!), and Johnson talks about his custom fishtank build.
