We catch up after 5 years since the last show , with a general overview of whats been happening since we last spoke in Music Tech/Reaperland.

We discuss the milestone releases since the last show, covering V5-V7 which saw over 100 updates during that time , and the ongoing company culture and philosophy towards development, licensing and support.

We take a deep technical dive into the finer details and methodology of the Anticipative FX processing engine, and how it differs to other extended buffering schemes on other DAW's. We cover the ongoing challenges of navigating cross platform, complex multithreading and serial processing routines with the current asymmetric CPU architectures, and the respective O.S's. 

We cover some emerging technologies and weigh up the Pro's and Con's of integration and development in those areas, discuss 3d party and community involvement in advancing and expanding future features, as well as muse about the current evolving Music Tech landscape, and much much more.

Hosted by Vin Curigliano of AAVIM Technology, I am joined by guest co-host Pete Brown of Microsoft and special guest Marcus Ryle , whose career spans over 4 decades on the front line of Music Tech Innovation.

We discuss Marcus' early history with music and technology , and how that lead a path to starting his career at Oberheim.

We cover his involvement in the development of  some of the final iconic products at Oberheim, including the OB-Xa, Expander and Matrix 12. We discuss the fall of the company and his co-founding of Fast Forward Designs, which was a design and engineering company that was involved in the development of numerous revolutionary products and technologies for several companies, including the Alesis ADAT.

We also cover his co-founding of Line 6 and how those products launched the modeled guitar amp era, and revolutionized the paradigm of guitar production and live performance. We discuss Marcus' new company WRiiG and his involvement with the return and revival of both Sequential and Oberheim, how he has come full circle with the development of the new Oberheim OB-X8, and much, much more.

We discuss Daves early history with music and technology , and how that lead a path to founding Sequential Circuits, the early days exploring analog synths and creating tools to expand their usability, to his work with microprocessors and the eventual development of the revolutionary Prophet 5 Polyphonic synth.

We cover his involvement in the development of MIDI and the paradigm shift that created in the industry, the challenges of staying ahead of an ever increasing competitive market, the damage caused by being too early to market with evolving technologies , the fall of the company and his work with other companies in the late 80's and 90's.

We also cover Daves return to hardware synthesisers with DSI - Dave Smith Instruments in the 00's, the eventual return of the Sequential brand name, his ongoing work with continuing to deliver analog synth mastery, and much, much more.

We discuss Ernst history with music and computer technology , his previous involvement in MI and early experiences within the emerging Music Tech arena, which lead to the founding of the company that brought you Reason.

We cover the early years with the successive releases of Recycle, ReBirth and Reason , each individually changing the game at their respective points, and the cult like status that the software achieved with artist, producers and the general Music Tech community.

We explore the company's unique approach to keeping the coding closed and in house, and for the longest time not expanding to supporting 3rd party plugin formats, instead developing their own with Rack Extensions , while also developing formats like .rex and ReWire which were widely adopted though out the industry.

We also discuss the community involvement and cover the shifting landscape of forums and social media regards how companies are communicating and staying connected with their end users. We also share some thoughts on the current state of Music Tech, and much more.
