Oisin Murphy - Beyond The Finish line, Racing, Recovery & Redemption26 Nov 202501:08:28

This week, I’m joined by one of the best talents in modern horse racing, five-time British Champion Jockey Oisín Murphy. Oisín takes us far beyond the headlines and the finish lines. We explore his remarkable rise in the sport, the relentless pressure that comes with staying at the top, and the physical and mental toll of life as a jockey. Oisín speaks with rare honesty about his battle with alcoholism, the daily struggle to maintain race weight, and the intense scrutiny that followed his toughest moments.

But this is also a story of resilience. Oisín reflects on the highs of his career — the iconic wins, the moments that made history — and the ongoing work of rebuilding, staying sober, and striving to be better every day. It’s candid, it’s human, and it’s a powerful insight into a world few truly understand.

East Coast Bose - Honor, Hustle, and Harlem20 Nov 202501:25:59

Today's episode has been two years in the making.

East Coast Bose joins me for a raw and unfiltered conversation about a world most people only see through headlines or hear about in lyrics. From Broadway, the heart of New York City, Bose walks us through the evolution of Harlem, the impact of gentrification, and what happens when the rules of the game change but the consequences don't.

We talk about the old code of honor, the rise of informants, the shift from violent street crime to modern hustles, and how legends like Camron shaped an entire generation. Bose opens up about personal loss, life behind the wall, celebrity encounters, regrets, and the realities of a culture that's disappearing as fast as New York changes around it.

On today's episode, I sit down with Scott DeLuzio, an army veteran who served in the Connecticut Army National Guard as an infantryman between 2005-2011 and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2010.

Scott discusses the challenges veterans face, including mental health issues and the search for purpose after service. He highlights the importance of community support, the complexities of combat experiences, and the role of humor in coping with trauma.

Scott's experiences in combat and the loss of his brother have fueled his passion for veteran advocacy and honoring the legacy of those who served.

After returning home, Scott struggled with PTSD, grief, and the transition to civilian life. Determined to address the mental health challenges facing veterans, he launched the Drive On Podcast, now in its fifth year with over 450 episodes.

Brent Cassity - Nightmare Success, From CEO to Cellblock29 May 202501:17:25

In this powerful episode, Brent Cassity opens up about his dramatic fall from corporate success to federal prison — and the remarkable personal transformation that followed. Once a high-flying CEO, Brent shares how his father's incarceration foreshadowed his own, and how the weight of shame, stigma, and regret nearly broke him.

Through raw storytelling and hard-won insight, Brent reflects on the emotional toll of the plea process, the collapse of his business, and the surreal moment he stepped inside prison walls. But what followed wasn’t just survival — it was the beginning of something redemptive.

We dive into his concept of "Nightmare Success," the lessons he's learned about identity, second chances, and the quiet power of purpose. Brent also discusses the writing of his book, the strength he drew from his family, and why he now advocates for reform and compassion in the justice system.

This is a story of loss, reckoning, and the unbreakable human will to rebuild.

In this episode, Gary sits down with M.E. Thomas, author of Confessions of a Sociopath, to explore the nuanced world of psychopathy — from societal perceptions and neurodiversity to capitalism and morality. Their conversation dives into the complex relationship between empathy, narcissism, and identity, touching on everything from immigrant contributions and fictional character relatability to language, writing, and community dynamics. Harry McGee - The Insane Case of Malcolm Macarthur, GUBU, Charles Haughey, and Irish Politics17 Sep 202401:38:02

On this week’s episode we sit down with author and award-winning political journalist Harry McGee. Harry is the political correspondent with The Irish Times, and has previously worked for several publications, including being political editor of the Irish Examiner, as well as jobs with the Sunday Tribune, and the Sunday Press. Harry also authored “The Murderer and the Taoiseach: Death, Politics and GUBU”, which explores a notorious case in 1980s Ireland involving Malcolm Macarthur, an Irish aristocrat who committed a brutal killing spree in an attempt to alleviate his financial troubles. The case not only shocked the nation but also had profound political ramifications, leading to widespread damage to the reputation of then Taoiseach Charles Haughey. The term GUBU (grotesque, unbelievable, bizarre, and unprecedented) was coined by Haughey himself to describe the events, encapsulating the surreal and shocking nature of the scandal.

Nules - A Contract Killing Case That Will SHOCK You24 Oct 202501:08:16

This week I'm joined by Nules, host of the Ireland Crime and Mysteries podcast. She was actually my first guest back in early 2024, so it's great to have her back on. Nules runs one of the best true crime podcasts out there: diving deep into solved and unsolved murders, vanishings, and mysteries that have left an unsettling chill at the heart of Ireland.

Today, we get a real taste of all that. We talk about the rise in crime statistics, the impact of mental health on criminal behaviour, and how society is becoming increasingly desensitised to violence. We also dig into some specific cases, including the Michael Gaine and Irene White murders, exploring the complexities of these investigations and the ongoing issues of coercive control and contract killings.

My new thriller How It Falls Apart out now 🧨

The Irish Juggernaut, Connor Magee - Bodybuilding, Road to Redemption, Training and Dieting12 Jun 202401:39:19

On this week’s episode we have super heavy weight bodybuilder Connor Magee. During covid, Connor had a horrific accident when re-racking the bar of the smith machine. He broke his both ankles, shin bones and ruptured both knees. He spent time in a wheelchair, but his drive to lift and compete again kept him going. He's since bounced back, and will be competing in the Irish Nationals and in Sweden later in the year. I found his mentality, and his road to redemption story to be so incredibly inspiring, and I believe you will too.

Kail Baxley - Making Music, Golden Gloves, DMT, Travelling & More22 May 202401:38:58

On this week’s episode we have singer / songwriter Kail Baxley. We go deep on this one; His outlaw parents, impoverished youth, the golden glove medals, gunshot wounds, making music, DMT, and so much more. This is a fascinating episode, and remembered, if you’re liking the podcast, please subscribe, rate, follow, and share it with others.

Kail has lived an almost filimic life; full of highs and lows, strange characters and, finally, redemption. When he was a child his father ran out on him and his mother went to prison. He was raised by his grandfather. He came to know James Brown as a child as Brown was incarcerated in the same prison as his mother. They used to sing in the prison church. He learned guitar from a Haitian refugee in his hometown. He was a golden glove boxer who missed out on the Olympics due to a brush with the law. Both his parents died from drug overdoses and he made money digging graves at the local cemetery. He headed to LA with nothing but the shirt on his back and his guitar, living in an RV for two years whilst saving to record his first record. That record, ‘Heat Stroke / The  Wind and The War’ was nominated for album of the year by NPR.
