Episode #23 - Cessationism 12 (Awakening & Revival)

Épisode 23

jeudi 4 avril 2024Durée 01:10:45

In the final episode of the Off The Record Podcast, Daniel Kolenda continues to delve into the history of the Holy Spirit's movement within the Church, focusing on the period from the Reformation to the 20th century. The episode highlights the origins of the modern Pentecostal movement back to the famous Azusa Street Revival in Los Angeles in 1906. Led by William J. Seymour, the revival saw manifestations of speaking in tongues, healings, and widespread spiritual renewal. With as many as 700 million people now identifying as Pentecostal or Charismatic, this movement has been instrumental in fulfilling the Great Commission, spreading the Gospel message worldwide and revitalizing Christianity. Ultimately, Daniel concludes this series by celebrating the ongoing presence and work of the Holy Spirit, affirming the fulfillment of biblical prophecy and the continuation of miraculous signs and wonders in the Church.

Episode #22 - Cessationism 11 (Miracles in the Middle Ages)

mercredi 20 mars 2024Durée 50:18

In this episode of Off The Record, Daniel Kolenda continues his series on "The Heresy of Cessationism" by delving into the historical development of modern cessationism, emphasizing its roots in Enlightenment philosophy and skepticism towards the supernatural. Benjamin Warfield, regarded as the pioneer of modern cessationism, is highlighted for basing his arguments more on historical critique than Scriptural exegesis.

Kolenda challenges the notion of historical cessationism by pointing out the prevalence of reported miracles throughout church history in the Middle Ages. He also notes a shift in attitudes towards supernatural phenomena, particularly during the Protestant Reformation, suggesting a resurgence of Holy Spirit activity despite Calvinist leanings towards cessationism.

Episode #13 - Cessationism - 2 (A Cascade of Lies)

vendredi 20 octobre 2023Durée 47:10

Cessationists often link the end of the Apostolate to the cessation of the miraculous gifts. In this episode of OFF THE RECORD, Daniel Kolenda delves into Part Two of his series on "The Heresy of Cessationism" entitled "A Cascade of Lies" and begins by challanging the assumption that the apostolic gift has ceased.  To view Daniel's more in-depth podcast about the apostolic gift called, "Are There Apostles in the Church Today?" visit: Are there Apostles in the Church Today? | Daniel Kolenda: Off The Record https://youtu.be/XOrssO8QEzw To view the original debate between Dr. Michael Brown and Samuel Waldron (from which the clip of Waldron explaining his "Cascade Argument" in this episode, was taken) visit: Have the New Testament Charismatic Gifts Ceased? Episode #12 - Cessationism - 1 (The Bible is Continuationist)

vendredi 13 octobre 2023Durée 40:34

Cessationism is the belief that the "miraculous gifts" of the Spirit ceased with the end of the "Apostolic Age." In this Episode of OFF THE RECORD, Daniel Kolenda begins a series aimed at "The Heresy of Cessationism" prompted by the "Cessationist Conference" which was held the week prior.  In Part One of this series entitled "The Scriptures" Daniel begins the conversation by having a look at the common cessationist proof text. Then he contrasts the weak and meager Biblical support for cessationism to the abundant and compelling Scriptural evidence that the gifts continue.  Among the cessationist proof text Daniel adresses are: - 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 - Ephesians 4:11 - Romans 12:6-8 - 1 Corinthians 13:8-13 - Hebrews 2:3-4  - Ephesians 2:20 - Jude 1:3 - 2 Corinthians 12:12 Among the texts Daniel addresses that refute cessationism are: - 1 Corinthians 14:1-5 - Joel 2:28-29 (which was quoted in Acts 2:17-18)  - 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 - Mark 16:17-18 - 1 Thessalonians 5:19-21 - 1 Corinthians 14:39 See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Episode #9 - Are there Apostles in the Church Today?

lundi 11 juillet 2022Durée 02:14:25

In this episode of Off the Record, Daniel Kolenda revisits the topic of modern day apostles (as promised) from his previous podcast about the New Apostolic Reformation. While confronting the question, "Are there apostles in the church today?" Daniel also addresses important related topics. He provides a short primer on what apostles are and what they do. He talks about the potential for abuse of authority in the church and addresses the important concern about protecting the closed cannon of Scripture. He provides some helpful insight into the debate over the cessation of miraculous gifts and provides a clear explanation for the different kinds of apostles described in Scripture. After watching this episode, viewers will have a new appreciation for the nuance surrounding this subject and a balanced, Biblical understanding of what the Bible has to say about the apostolic gifting.
