- South African counterpart, Naked, which offers a digital way for consumers to insure their cars, homes, and valuables raised $17 million in Series B funding.
- Kenya's data center market is at a growing stage with revenues expected to reach $100 million by 2027
- Co-Creation Hub (CcHUB), is launching a $15 million accelerator program to back and support 72 African edtech startups over the next three years.
- Smile Identity, a leading ID verification and KYC startup, closed a $20 million Series B round, Cleantech Qotto plans further growth backed by a new $8 million funding, Terraa raised $1.5 million to improve food supply in Morocco while mobility startup Treepz expanded to Kenya with a $1.2 million investment boost.
- French telecom giant Orange jointly unveiled a new digital center in Sierra Leone with the German government, Starlink plans to pilot its internet satellite in Rwandan schools ahead of launch this month, Nigerian crypto startup Fluidcoins was acquired by UAEâs Blockfinex after failing to raise funding and according to Disrupt Africaâs new funding report, active investors in African tech grew by 28% in 2022.

- Partech, a global VC firm reached the first close of its second Africa-focused fund at $263 million, making it the largest fund yet targeting the continentâs startups.Â
- Vantage Capital, one of Africaâs largest mezzanine fund managers, announced the final close on its fourth mezzanine fund with a total of $377 million in commitments secured from European and US-based investors and development finance institutions.Â
- Disrupt Africa released its African Tech Startups Funding report for 2022 this week and found that investment in Africaâs tech startup ecosystem passed the $3 billion mark for the first time last year.
- Flutterwave is launching in Egypt. The Nigeria-born pan-African payments giant facilitates cross-border transactions in at least 100 different currencies and has received two payment licenses in the north African nation, allowing it to operate as an official payment service provider.Â
- Elon Muskâs Starlink is forging ahead in Africa. The SpaceX-owned satellite internet service has already launched in the continent, debuting in Nigeria this month, and has the approval to set up in Rwanda. It plans to enter more than 20 African markets.
- Oikocredit partners with MyCredit to fund SMEs in Kenya as Nigerian digital bank Umba launches operations in the east African nation.Â
- OPEC Fund is backing the Africa Finance Corporationâs infrastructure funding with $50m while Untapped Global has launched a climate initiative for Africa in partnership with a consortium of partners.
- On startup funding, Egyptâs Gameball raised $3.5m to scale its CRM platform, and Yodawy, the regionâs leading pharmacy benefits management platform, raised $16m in a Series B round co-led by several investors.Â
- Morocco-based Chari and Sand to Green bagged $1m each from Orange Ventures and Norwayâs Katapult & Catalyst respectively while South Africaâs Sendmarc closed a $7m Series A funding round.
