We felt this episode is the appropriate choice for getting into the new year because our well-being & mental health can be tested over the holidays. Whether is family stuff, financial stress, or simply reflecting on the previous year the holidays can be emotional. This is a reminder to take care of your well-being first before taking care of others. Using the analogy of using an oxygen mask on an aeroplane; the instructions given by airlines are to put your oxygen mask on first before helping others because you simply cannot take good care of others if you are not taking care of yourself first (this goes for your cyber security digital hygiene too). On that note! Welcome back to our podcast! Steve is a cyber security leader, having seen many aspects of the challenges that organisations big & small have had to face. He has worked for startups in hyper-growth (including Mimecast, Rapid7 and Bridewell), medium-sized (RSA Security), and large enterprises (including Microsoft for 11 years, HP & PwC). Steve knows his stuff and is very comfortable working directly with the board, security architects, developers, business people and everyday users of technology. After 30 years as a cyber security professional Steve continues to be curious and intrigued about how to bring to bear technology and people-based security controls to enable businesses to flourish while being confident that their risk profile is aligned with their appetite for risk. He has worked in technical support, marketing (product management and public relations) and consulting. Steve leads by example and enjoys encouraging positive change both in organisations that employ him directly and with his personal clients. Steve loves mentoring and coaching people who are earlier in their journey into cyber as they often ask thought-provoking questions and challenge the status quo which itself is an ever-moving feast given the pace of technological innovations. In recent years Steve has placed a lot of focus on becoming more present and aware of how his subconscious often drives his behaviour. He has trained and is Professionally qualified as a “shadow work” and a “breath work” facilitator and coach to both help himself and others to see where the subconscious grabs hold of the wheel in response to old programming.
