In my curiosity over the summer break, I was able to slow down enough and listen to my heart. In this quietness, I realised that running this business doesn’t feel like freedom anymore for me or my family.

From that revelation, I announce that Curious Freedom is closing its doors and ceasing operations in its current iteration.

While this decision has been heartbreaking in many ways, it has also brought a feeling of peace. Therefore, I know it is the right and timely decision.

I am going to be taking a period of time to rest and process what has been a massive few years for my family and me. In this time, I am hoping that dreams will start developing for what is next for myself and Curious Freedom. I believe my season of working in the decluttering and organising industry is finished, however there is still so much growth in myself and others that I want to champion. I am hopeful that Curious Freedom and the podcast will be reborn, but I am holding all of it loosely as I lay down this chapter and rest.

So what does this mean?

  1. Curious Freedom as a decluttering and support service will cease trading as of 29th February 2024.
  2. If you wish to access decluttering services and support, please get in touch before then to express your interest and we will connect you with individual team members who are continuing to offer these services. Our wonderful existing clients have already been notified of this change and their options moving forward.
  3. If you wish to be informed of any future rebirthing of Curious Freedom and the Curious Freedom podcast, then stay subscribed to emails and the podcast.
  4. Curious Freedom’s social media accounts will be deactivated, allowing me to reactivate them in the future.
  5. The Curious Freedom website will retain the podcast page so you can continue to access past episodes via the website.

The words thank you simply don’t do justice to my gratitude for every single one of you

Some of you have been with me on my business journey since I first started as Feels Like Home Professional Organising eleven and a half years ago, and some of you have only recently joined. What a wild and wonderful journey it has been, and what a privilege it has been to have you along for the ride.

For everyone who has a connection to Curious Freedom - the clients who have trusted us and invited us into their homes, the people who have listened to our podcast episodes, those of you who have followed along on social media and opened emails when they’ve landed in your inbox, and those who’ve reached out to share how much the work we put out into the world has impacted your life - my most wholehearted thank you.

To all of my team, past and present, thank you for caring and supporting our clients and for doing the same for each other and me. My life is all the more beautiful because of your friendship.

I could say many more words, but for now, it is time for me to honour myself and my family and rest.

Here’s to staying curious about finding freedom in all areas of our lives.

With love and gratitude,

Kirsty - Founder and Director of Curious Freedom

This December we are taking a little break from recording and bring you some of our favourite episodes to listen to. For the month of December we will be bringing you our favourite famous guest episodes!

In 2020 while Peter was quarantining after returning to Australia from the USA, we managed to steal some of his time and pick his brain with all our questions. You may know him from his days as Oprah's Decluttering Guru, or TV shows such as The Living Room, The Rachel Ray Show and Space Invaders.

Peter is a legend and pioneer in the Professional Organising industry and it was such a joy and delight to have this time with him.

There is SO much gold in this episode that we know you'll get a lot out of it even if you've heard it before!

In this episode we;

● Learn Peter's story from being a teacher in Australia to sharing the TV screen with Oprah;

● Hear his heart for deep understanding of people and not just superficial tidying;

● Glean from his wisdom what changes happen in peoples heads, hearts and home when they do the deep work of decluttering;

● And so so so so much more...

We hope from this conversation we all learn something and put a smile on your face!

Shopping Bags24 Oct 202100:29:21

Did you know that shopping bags don't have to take over your house and that they can actually be nicely organised?!

Over a week ago Amy posted a video to our socials showing us all her hack for folding reusable plastic shopping bags - well it created quite a stir! We even had our friend and fellow podcast host Mandy from Too Peas DM us on Instagram with her own questions after seeing it. So thanks Mandy, today's podcast was inspired by you!

Since grocery stores phased out single use plastic shopping bags a few years ago, people all over the country have been unintentionally hoarding reusable bags. It is very common for us to find said bags stuffed into multiple cupboards and drawers when in our clients homes. We get it, we've all been there, you get to the checkout and the realisation sets in....you forgot your bags! Faced with the choice of becoming a pack horse laden with groceries or buying a new bag most pick the more convenient latter option.

Get ready as we delve into what we think about this and how to stop it by putting some helpful steps in place! Enjoy some laughs and giggles with us in your ears today.

Oh and if you are a super human and have managed to maintain the condition of those little black plastic bases that come with the green fabric bags please jump into our Facebook Community and show us - we need to know!

We hope from this conversation we all learn something and put a smile on your face!

Come join us for some laughs and giggles as we suggest swapping your to do list for a 'ta-da list' (thanks to Lauren from our community for that idea a few years ago) and help you uncover that maybe what you want out of life is to do less. Self-Sabotage26 Sep 202100:39:16

This week's episode was recorded on RUOk Day, so we took the opportunity to check in on each other and to have a little chat about how this never ending lockdown is going for us. As you may have noticed our topic for today is self-sabotage. After this theme popped up in a few virtual sessions recently, we decided it was worth a whole episode. We look at lots of good ideas and tips on how you can interrupt this pattern of behaviour, as well as delving into what actually is self-sabotage, what does it look like and why on earth we do it?! We hope you find today's episode to be helpful and empowering.

In this episode we:

● Discuss what self-sabotage is and what it can look like;

● Ask why we do self-sabotage and how often do we engage in it;

● Emphasise the importance of learning more about yourself;

● Chat about using The Four Tendencies as a helpful tool;

● Discuss self-sabotage in the context of decluttering;

Love It05 Sep 202100:22:02

Rounding out our mini series is this week's episode 'Love It'. Asking yourself 'Do I love it' can grant you the permission to keep or let go of an item you have been umming and aaahing over. How many things do we keep because we feel that we HAVE to, not because we actually LOVE them? Spoiler alert: It's ok to keep things that you absolutely love!! We also tackle some of the big issues like what to do when you love everything and can I still love the person that gave me something I don't love? We hope you have enjoyed this mini series and that you are feeling more equipped in your decluttering journey!

Use It29 Aug 202100:16:58

Do you use it? Following on from last week’s episode, today we are posing to you this question - Do you use it? We often buy things with good intentions or ideas in mind (we call this aspirational you) but often end up with an overflowing cupboard or room filled with said items. Get ready to clear the clutter by asking yourself some hard hitting questions to get some clarity on what is actually being used in your home.

Don't forget to come over to our Facebook community to let us know what you use and how that has changed as part of your decluttering journey AND what have you let go of that you used to think you used it but realised that you actually didn't.

In this episode we:

● Discuss how seeing the potential in an item and the reality of actually using it are two different things;

● Challenge you to ask - 'What could I instead?;

● Highlight that it's harder to let go of it once you've already purchased it;

● Hear how asking 'do you use it' has changed the way the Revell's and Farrugia's buy clothes for their kids;

● Encourage you to look at your possessions with fresh eyes;

And so so so so much more...

We hope from this conversation we all learn something and put a smile on your face!

Need It22 Aug 202100:24:36

Do you need it? Need is such a subjective thing, only you can truly know what you need but sometimes figuring that out can be a little tricky! We love questions (as you all know!) so this week we suggest adding this one to your decluttering toolkit to pull out when you need it (pun totally intended!). Today is the first of a 3 part series over the next couple of weeks where we'll be looking at questions that can serve you well on your decluttering journey. Join us as we share laughs - cue Amy's YES button, tips, advice and our feelings as we check in with each other about how lockdown is going. Sending love to all of you experiencing a hard time xx

In this episode we:

● Define and distinguish 'need' from 'want';

● Share the importance of timing when making purchases;

● Highlight that efficiency and effectiveness is a great way to determine a need;

● Remind you to be a thoughtful and conscious consumer;

● Encourage you to check yourself - are you buying to numb your feelings or do you need it?;

● Hear the return of Amy's Yes button;

And so so so so much more...

We hope from this conversation we all learn something and put a smile on your face!

Binary Decisions20 Jun 202100:23:59

Today's episode is a good one!! We bring you a concept that you can use as a tool to help make the decluttering process that little bit easier. Sometimes reducing the options to yes/no black/white type decisions can help you to refocus your energy in the midst of trickiness or when you can't see the forest for the trees. Enjoy our conversation today as we share loads tips and advice for you. Come over to our Facebook community and let us know your experiences with using binary decisions to help you achieve your goals in all areas not just decluttering.

In this episode we:

● Define and discuss what we mean by binary decisions;

● Share how to use this concept as a tool to help simplify the decluttering process;

● Highlight yet again our differences!;

Gosh are we excited for today's episode!! Not only do we have a guest, but we are also talking all things Space Invaders!!! Our beautiful friend and collegue Sarah Cottman sat down with us to answer all our questions of what goes on behind the scenes and when the cameras aren't rolling. Sarah is a Professional Organiser who has had the privilege of working with Peter Walsh over the years on the Living Room TV show as well as currently on Channel 9's Space Invaders. If you are a fan of the show then this episode is a must!! If you haven't seen it yet, we highly recommend checking it out as we feel it is such a great representation of our industry. Bonus Episode - Eden Update31 Mar 202100:11:00

*Trigger warning - this episode talks about sexual exploitation, human trafficking and the current coup in Myanmar - this episode is not suitable for children*

This week we have a bonus episode for you. We are giving you a much needed update on This is Eden - the organisation we support. Back in November we spoke with Michelle from the Australian Team of This is Eden (please go back and listen to that episode it was very eye opening and powerful!) and she shared with us about the amazing work they do in Myanmar. Not sure if you have seen the news lately but the current situation in Myanmar is pretty horrific, so Amy checked in with some of the team over the weekend so we could update you all on the situation.

We also wanted to say a massive thank you to all of YOU!! Every time you book a session with our staff, buy a book, listen to an ad on the podcast or even join one of our courses, money from every single way you support us goes straight to Eden. So thank you a million times over!!

In this episode we:

● Share how much $$ we have already donated to Eden this financial year;

● Update you on what’s been happening in Myanmar and the training centre there that we support;

● Tell you all the ways that you are supporting Eden by supporting us;

● Remind you that every time you listen to the podcast and hear an ad, or book a decluttering session or support us in anyway you are also supporting freeing women and girls from sexual slavery;

● And so so so so much more...

We hope from this update we all realise that we CAN do something to help in this seemingly helpless situation.

Curious about Personality Types with Kate Mason31 Aug 202300:43:38

Have you ever heard these myths about personality types and clutter? Myth #1: Messy people are lazy and disorganised. Myth #2: Neat freaks are uptight and controlling. In this episode, our guest, Kate Mason, will debunk these myths and share how understanding personality types can help improve relationships and communication.

Our guest, Kate Mason, is a personality coach known for her unique perspective on understanding and accepting diverse temperaments. Rooted in her personal experiences as a mother to two wonderfully different children and a wife celebrating 37 years of marriage, Kate's insights are deeply personal and relatable. Her journey commenced when her new sister-in-law gave her the book 'Personality Plus,' which helped her nurture empathy towards her husband's contrasting temperament. Kate's ability to draw upon her incredible journey to tap into the unique aspects of individuals makes her a compelling guest to listen to.

In this episode, you will be able to:

  • Investigate the distinct tidiness patterns in judging and perceiving personality types, catapulting you towards a cleaner, more organised space.
  • Reflect on whether you lean more towards extroversion or introversion when it comes to where you get your energy from.
  • Explore the differences between intuition and sensing about how you perceive and interact with the world.
  • Consider whether you approach clutter and decluttering from a thinking or feeling perspective, focusing on logic or sentimentality.
  • Reflect on whether you lean more towards judging or perceiving when organising and tidying your space. Use the insights from personality typing to understand better and appreciate the unique perspectives and preferences of those around you.
  • Embrace that understanding personality types can lead to more effective communication, motivation, and relationship support.

The resources mentioned in this episode are:

  • Visit Kate Mason's website to learn more about her personality coaching services and how they can help you understand yourself better.
  • Check out Kate's podcast episodes to hear more about personality profiling and parenting.

Just One More07 Mar 202100:22:21

We like to pull out this question at the end of a session to see if we can encourage our clients to dig a little deeper - even when they are tired, annoyed and ready to be done! Tune in to find out how you too can dig a little deeper by asking ''Just One More'...

In this episode we:

● Share a trick we use as Professional Organisers ;

● Discuss when we use this trick and what it looks like when we do;

● Highlight the benefit of asking 'Just One More';
