Scotland: John Law, The Man Who Financially Ruined France 16 Mar 202601:11:03

In today’s episode, we’re diving into the chaotic life of John Law — the Scottish economist who escaped prison, fled across Europe, and somehow convinced France to let him run their entire financial system.

We’re talking:

  • Gambling addictions and duels in 1600s London
  • Escaping prison and going full digital nomad across Europe
  • The creation of paper money in France
  • The rise and catastrophic fall of the Mississippi Company
  • The financial bubble that helped spark the French Revolution

At one point, John Law became the richest man in Europe.
And then? He lost everything.

This episode covers one of the most infamous financial crashes in history — a cautionary tale about speculation, inflation, stock market bubbles, and what happens when you let a gambler print unlimited money.

If you love stories about:

  • Financial history
  • Economic collapse
  • Stock market bubbles
  • The history of paper money
  • Wild historical scandals
  • And... Gerard Butler!?

You are going to love this one.

My (Very) Honest Digital Nomad Story: How I Became a Full Time Traveller and the Realities 22 Dec 202501:13:21

What no one tells you about being a digital nomad is that the freedom comes with a cost ..

Today I’m flipping the mic and sharing a very real, very unfiltered conversation I had on James Hammond’s Winging It Travel Podcast. If you’ve ever dreamed about getting paid to travel, building a business from your laptop, or living the digital nomad life heading into digital nomad 2026… this one’s for you.

This isn’t the romanticized “work from a beach in Bali” version. This is the behind-the-scenes reality — the burnout, the loneliness, the identity shifts, and the hard lessons I learned after traveling for nearly 10 months straight while running my business.

In this episode, we talk about:

  • Why I left the U.S. to become a digital nomad — and why I came back
  • The difference between backpacking vs. being paid to travel with a business
  • How travel burnout sneaks up on you (even when you “love travel”)
  • The hidden loneliness of long-term travel
  • Why co-living can make or break your digital nomad experience
  • The truth about popular nomad hubs (and why Bali wasn’t it for me)
  • How traveling too fast nearly wrecked my nervous system
  • Why I believe most people shouldn’t be nomads forever
  • What I’d do differently if I started again in digital nomad 2026

🌍  Check out James Hammond:

This episode originally aired on Winging It Travel Podcast hosted by James Hammond, where he shares honest travel stories, digital nomad realities, and global adventures from around the world.

Scotland: The Tragedy of Mary Queen of Scots 27 Oct 202501:19:47

Today we are covering a woman whose life was so full of drama we are still talking about her 500 years later... Mary Queen of Scots.

We’re not only covering the twists, betrayals, and wild scandals of Scottish history, but we’re also reliving our own adventures in Scotland — from cozy hot chocolate in Edinburgh to getting terrorized by Scottish teens and even visiting the very castle where part of Mary’s story went down, Holyrood Castle.

You’ll learn:

  • Why Mary’s life was basically a soap opera-meets-Game of Thrones.
  • How her choices in love (spoiler: bad ones) shaped the fate of nations.
  • Why her name still sparks fascination centuries later.
  • Fun and spooky Harry Potter connections in Edinburgh, including the haunted graveyard that inspired Tom Riddle.

Our top Scotland travel recommendations: Uplands Roast hot chocolate in The Meadows, Mellis Cheese Shop in Edinburgh,  strolling colorful Victoria Street, and experiencing the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

  • Landing in New Delhi straight from Thailandand immediately questioning all life choices

  • The darker side of India travel — confronting poverty up close, cultural confusion, and witnessing things you can’t unsee

Vietnam Unfiltered: 3 Months in Hội An20 Aug 202500:23:30

Today I want to share my three-month stay in Hội An, Vietnam. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s really like to live there (beyond the touristy highlights), this one’s for you.

I spill my observations of everyday life: water buffalo naps, karaoke at 8am, maggots in my pho (yes, really), the strongest coffee I’ve ever had, and why Vietnam is the land of beautiful chaos. You’ll also hear about the women running the show in Hội An, my hilarious food-only conversations with a stranger, and why Anthony Bourdain loved Vietnam so much.

What You’ll Hear in This Episode:

  • Why Hội An is a perfect digital nomad home base
  • My favorite cafes, yoga studios, and cocktail spots (Spice Root, Om Factory, and the iconic Hit Ha coworking café on the beach)
  • The Vietnamese karaoke obsession and what makes it so different from Thailand’s scene
  • The chaotic, unapologetic beauty of Vietnam—and why I find it so freeing
  • A personal and emotional share about my partner Ollie, who was such a big part of this trip

Recommendations from this Episode:

  • Stay at Mimi’s House in Hội An – A warm, family-run homestay where you’ll get homemade meals, karaoke nights, and the kind of community you can’t find in a regular Airbnb. DM me @culturecultshow if you want Mimi’s direct info and not the Airbnb markup.
  • Coffee musts: Coconut coffee, salted coffee, egg coffee, avocado coffee (don’t knock it ‘til you try it).
  • Spice Root – Incredible cocktails + live jazz in a lantern-lit heritage building.
  • Om Factory Yoga – Overlooking rice fields with aerial yoga and the sweetest teachers.
  • Hit Ha (HIT Space) – My favorite café + coworking spot in the world (dog + cat café on the beach!).

2 Months on the White Lotus Island in Thailand 17 Aug 202500:42:30

I spent two months in Thailand, living as a digital nomad on the island of Koh Samui — yes, the one that was featured in White Lotus Season 3. And  I found a hidden gem: Lamai, a magical little town that still feels deeply Thai and hasn’t been completely overrun by mass tourism.

This episode is part travel diary, part digital nomad guide. You’ll hear my wild stories (think full moon parties, tropical rainstorms in the back of a pickup truck, and mushroom trips), but also my best tips if you’re dreaming of traveling to Thailand or setting up in a digital nomad community.

What You’ll Hear in This Episode:

  • Why Lamai, Koh Samui is my secret paradise
  • My home at Amy Village — the co-living space that made my entire trip, complete with a pool, co-working space ( DM me at @culturecultshow to be put in touch with William the owner to book)
  • My go-to markets
  • The Full Moon Party experience on Koh Phangan — the good, the bad, the fire ropes
  • Tattoos, temples, and why Thailand might just be the happiest place on earth
  • 🧘🏽 The beautiful contradictions of Thailand: spirituality, hedonism, kindness, and freedom all in one.

👉 If you’re planning to travel to Thailand or curious about life as a digital nomad in Koh Samui, DM me on Instagram @CultureCultureShow. I can even connect you directly with William and Sunny at Amy Village so you don’t pay Airbnb prices.

Denmark: The Mysterious Disappearance of the Kobenhavn 20 Apr 202501:06:32

In 1928, Denmark's pride — the Kobehavn, one of the largest sailing ships ever built — vanished without a trace. No distress signals. No wreckage. Nothing. Nearly 100 years later, it’s still one of the greatest unsolved maritime mysteries in Danish history. So what happened to the Kobenhavn?

In this episode, we unravel the clues, explore wild theories, and travel through the waves of Denmark history, from legendary Vikings to modern-day mysteries.

🛶 Episode Summary:

From Viking raids to five-masted ghost ships, Marie and Kyle take you deep into Denmark. You’ll learn why the Vikings weren’t actually that horny (helmet-wise), why Danish women had it surprisingly good during the Viking era, and how a legendary ship simply disappeared off the map.

Plus, a warm and buttery dive into Denmark’s national dish with Alexandria from The Foreign Fork—and of course, some deeply unnecessary (yet delightful) fashion talk and crop top commentary.

🧭 What You'll Learn:

  • The haunting story of the Copenhagen and its 60 missing crew members
  • Why Viking longboats were as much engineering genius as they were terrifying
  • Fun, weird, and wild facts from Denmark’s history and culture

🍴 Cooking Corner:

Hear how to make Denmark’s national dish, Stegt flæsk, with Alexandra from The Foreign Fork — crispy pork, potatoes, and a creamy parsley sauce that even Vikings would fight over.

💬 Memorable Quotes:

  • “The Kobenhavn vanished with no trace. That’s Titanic-level, but without the iceberg or the ending.” – Marie

  • “I think I'd rather fight a Viking than dress for a Danish winter.” – Kyle

  • “That emergency that kept you off the boat? That might've saved your life.” – Marie

🔍 Keypoints:

Missing Danish ship, Copenhagen ship mystery, Danish history, Denmark history, Vikings, Viking women, Stegt flæsk, Viking longboats, Scandinavian culture, Denmark travel podcast

New Zealand: Flight Of The Conchords 12 May 202400:23:27

Today, we are talking about the rise of New Zealand's most ridiculous band and comedy troupe: Flight Of The Conchords. A band spotify describes as  "self proclaimed "fourth most" popular guitar-based digi-bongo a cappella -rap-runk-comedy trio."  (for more reference)
Do yourself a favor and listen to their music before the episode! It will make so much more sense and you'll have damn good laugh.

My favorite songs are:
We Are Both In Love With A Sexy Lady
Hurt Feelings
Too Many Dicks On The Dance Floor
