Chanel Contos became a household name in 2021 after beginning an Instagram poll asking for Australian girls and women’s stories of sexual assault. After an outpouring of responses, Chanel began Teach Us Consent, a movement that urged the government to include sexual consent education in the curriculum. 

Since then, Chanel has created huge change in the country and won the Young People’s Human Rights Medal. As of this week, Chanel is also an author. Her first book, Consent Laid Bare, explores sex, consent and the education we all should have had.

Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, the myths and taboos of menstruation, and what happens when a mood becomes an illness, with author Emma Hardy.

PMDD is a severe, chronic medical condition similar to PMS, causing debilitating mood and physical symptoms in the 1–2 weeks before menstruation.

In this vulnerable chat, Emma shares her experience with the illness that led her to write the literary memoir and why PMDD is shrouded in cultural stigma.

Rudy is the iconic non-binary creative and presenter that’s been schooling us on the queer education we wish we had when we were younger.

They’re set on rewriting the false narratives about the LGBTQIA+ community through co-creating Rainbow History Class, co-writing the TikTok documentary TransAthletica, taking on the role as ABC’s queer-ospondent, as well as being a major fashion and beauty inspiration.

WE'RE BACK!

After a delicious summer break, we give you some updates on our lives and then jump into the world of pop culture. Melbourne Fashion Festival is beginning in a couple of weeks and while they champion small brands and slow fashion, they've decided to partner with Kmart, including hosting a runway. We read from this opinion piece and ask why they've made this choice.

Last week, Harry Styles won Album of The Year for Harry’s House at the 2023 Grammy awards. While he was saying his acceptance speech, however, one phrase he used got the internet talking: “This doesn’t happen to people like me.” We debate what he meant by that and read from this piece for VICE titled American Nepo Babies Have Nothing On The British by Elle Hunt. 48-year-old Leonardo Dicaprio is rumoured to be dating 19-year-old model, Eden Polani. Gross. We discuss this phenomenon and the discourse around it.

TikTok has introduced a lot of vocab into our lives, some more confusing or coded than others. One currently trending is referring to 'mascara' when talking about another topic entirely. We reference this piece from The Conversation. Julia Fox has come under fire for walking in alleged abuser, Alexander Wang's, runway show at NYFW which is... an interesting choice.

Next up, from the truly viral Dyson AirWrap to the Bella Hadid-endorsed Ugg Minis, it seems there’s always an onslaught of products that are a “must-have”. What's come in its place is "deinfluencing". We ask if this will really stop rampant consumerism or if it's a way to make people feel better about not being able to afford luxury goods.

Today’s guest is Jessica Cerro, AKA Montaigne. Montaigne is one of Australia’s most distinct and exciting musicians. The 30-year-old has a certified platinum hit, an ARIAs Breakthrough Artist of the Year title, and represented Australia on the Eurovision stage in 2021. They also compose music for video games. Montaigne released their fourth studio album It's Hard to Be a Fish last year, and is about to head out on the Glorious Heights 10th anniversary tour across the country this August.
