| #104- Creative Self-Care Challenge: Creating a “sensory” inventory… | 02 Sep 2021 | 00:10:48 | |
Check out the episode on Youtube for closed captioning!
What is a sensory inventory? When we notice what is happening around us by focusing on our senses, we are able to tune in to everything that is happening around us. So often our brain tunes our sense out (understandably) but what happens when we notice? If we take an inventory of some of things we see, hear, or feel then we can really notice when something is different. Also -- take a listen to hear how you can turn this experience into an intervention in itself!

| #98- Part 2 – Being a witness, storytelling, play, and art with Ella Reilly, MA, PgD, BA | 22 Jul 2021 | 00:43:00 | |
In part one of this episode, Ella talks with us about the power of non directive work and storytelling within an expressive and play therapy environment. Ella shares with us what non directive play looks like in her work, how storytelling is an integral part of the work, and how symbols can be utilized throughout these experiences. Take a listen and enjoy!
Ella is a fully trained Art Psychotherapist. Her qualifications include: MA (Hons) in Art Therapy from Crawford College of Art and Design, PgD in Principles of Art Therapy from Crawford College of Art and Design, BA (Hons) in Design from NCAD, and Diplomas in Teletherapy and Play Therapy for adults and children. Ella is a fully accredited member of IACAT - The Irish Association of Creative Arts Therapists.
Ella has worked with children, adolescents, young adults, and families. Her experience includes children going through foster care, struggling with separation in the family, autism, trauma, grief, and diverse mental and physical disabilities. Ella has also worked with adults within the psychiatric services, in areas including bipolar disorder, addiction and psychosis. Ella is interested in working with children as well as adults. She has seen that art therapy is a powerful and non-invasive way of helping a person work through difficulties they are experiencing. Very often people can find it challenging to verbalise their issues. Help and support in the form of Art Therapy as such presents a very effective solution. By creating a safe and secure environment for her clients, Ella uses the creative process as a way of helping and guiding her clients through any issues they may have. Ella uses Art therapy, Play therapy, Sandtray play therapy, therapeutic story telling to name a few within her work. She uses a non directive approach throughout sessions with children, letting the child chose the narrative of the sessions. "It is only in being creative that the individual discovers the self"-D.W. | #97- Part 1 – Being a witness, storytelling, play, and art with Ella Reilly, MA, PgD, BA | 15 Jul 2021 | 00:48:15 | |
Check out this episode on Youtube for automatic closed captioning!
Winnicott

Hi Everyone! I’m Christa. I am a hobbyist photography, writer, plant mom, nature lover and content creator on IG. I’m the owner and founder of Creative Minds At Play LLC. I work full-time as Director of Counseling Programs at a nonprofit organization, and part-time in private practice at Seven Corners Psychotherapy in Northern Virginia. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Registered Play Therapists Supervisor and Nationally Certified TF-CBT Therapist, and Board Approved Licensure Supervisor by the Virginia Board of Counseling. Creative Minds At Play LLC was created out of my love for creativity and play therapy, and my desire to share with others the benefits that creativity and play has when used as both a personal and a professional tool. Creative Minds At Play LLC currently offers continuing education trainings for mental health professionals, workshops, clinical supervision, and consultation services. I am in the process of creating my very first children’s book and e-course.One thing that my friends, family and colleagues would say about me is that I am always striving to learn something new, and the first to share my knowledge with others. In true Capricorn nature, I am an extremely hard worker and I strive hard to serve others with the highest level of integrity, ethics, and professionalism. I am lifelong learner, and teaching comes natural to me.I enjoy integrating creativity into therapy with the use of play, expressive, art-based, and sand tray therapies. Creative adults, teens, and children, and I work very well together. However, I have many clients who don't identify as being creative but want to explore alternatives to traditional talk therapy. I am also a trauma therapist for adults, teens, and children. My approach to treating trauma is integrative. I incorporate expressive and art-based therapy, narrative therapy, self-empowerment, and resiliency-building skills, and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy to treating trauma. The focus is on healing and building post-traumatic growth. I have ten years of experience and have utilized play and expressive therapy techniques with individuals, families, and groups of all ages. My approach to treating trauma in youth incorporates integrative play therapy, neurobiology, and attachment theory. I work systemically with families with the goal of strengthening the parent-child relationship and supporting both the child and parent(s) in the development of skills to improve the overall family dynamics. I am skilled at helping children in areas of self-esteem, interpersonal skills, and emotion regulation. I help adults in healing their inner child, adjusting to life changes, exploring their life purposes, and developing a healthier sense of self. One of my favorite quotes is "the creative adult is the child that has survived." I am a creative, mental health therapist and a black woman helping others learn how to survive and thrive with the use of creativity.

| #80- On Mute (early). | 18 Mar 2021 | 00:08:43 | |
Normally, our podcast goes on mute once every three months to un-center our voice and instead raise importance Black, Indigenous, Asian, Latinx, People of Color, Disabled, and LGBTQA+ voices in our community.
With the recent hate crimes committed against Asian-American women in Atlanta, Georgia, we are turning off our voice early. We instead hope that you will use this time reading, listening, reflecting, reaching out, learning, and un-learning racism, racial trauma, and white supremacy.
