Q & A: Body Self-Consciousness and Aging06 Aug 202400:19:03

Solo episode Q & A this week!

This question comes to us from Aimee L. in Maine:

“As I continue to age, my body looks different in a bathing suit…Since I hit my 40s, I am embarrassed to go to the public pool…I will also see the parents of my children’s friends who will look at me like I am crazy in a bathing suit. Is there a dignified way for me to go to the public pool in a bathing suit?”

Great question, Aimee! Aging body stuff comes up a lot in my private practice too.

In this episode, I share:

-where body consciousness comes from and how to beat it;

-the vastly differing ways other countries see a woman in her 40s, 50s and beyond;

-how to drown out the noise of society’s demands on our bodies;

-the practical solution to the bathing suit conundrum of our 40s and up;

-using Internal Family Systems or IFS therapy to work on body self-consciousness issues;

-the importance of walking on an incline with a weighted vest for the exercise win;

-various other tools to support your mental health!

And the winner is…Kelly Burns!

Thank you so much for all of you who entered the giveaway. I LOVED reading your reviews of the podcast and it has reminded me of how lucky we are to have our community here. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Embodiment Meditation28 May 202400:09:50

In this week’s episode, you will receive a meditation to reach a more embodied state.

Embodiment is a process of recognizing that you are a spirit in human form, you have a physical body and it is yours to use as you want to. Many of us with histories of abuse, complex PTSD, PTSD and/or living in chronic pain have the ability to disassociate from our bodies.

It is impossible for your cortisol levels, the stress hormone, to drop when you are disassociated.

Read that again.

It is impossible for your cortisol levels to drop when you are disassociated. Consistently high cortisol leads to weight gain/difficulty losing weight, brain fog, decreased absorbtion of minersals, heart issues and so much more.

Let's get back into our bodies to avoid all of this!

In this episode, you will participate in:

-a grounding meditation in your favorite place outdoors;

-a process to move into a safe space for your mind, body and spirit;

-a meditation to allow you to feel your body without the pain or worry that comes along with it;

-a process to feel the safety that is possible in your body;

-encouragement to stay embodied throughout your day.

Eye Movement Therapy: what is EMDR?24 Jan 202300:37:43
What is EMDR? And what is Transformational Healing? And which one helps more? Short answer: both!   In this episode, I go into detail about: - EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, and why it works so well for single-event trauma recovery; -some of the literature that backs EMDR as a means of getting over one-time traumas like a car accident, a lost job, etc.; -Transformational Healing™ and why it works to change trauma-based patterns, like repetitive break ups, financial problems, your relationship with your mother, etc. -examples of healing success stories with neuroscience-based Transformational Healing; -why weaving spiritual healing in whatever we do can lead to more holistic healing; -my very personal reasons for getting certified in EMDR and still using it in working with clients; -A mini-Transformational Healing process to change your future TODAY!   SHOW NOTES
