The greatest micro-sculptor with the biggest heart, with Dr Willard Wigan MBE, creator of the world’s smallest sculptures.06 Dec 202101:28:46
This week, Holly has one of her most thought provoking and emotional conversations yet, with Dr Willard Wigan MBE, a man famous for creating the world's tiniest and most beautifully crafted micro-sculptures that are invisible to the naked eye.
Growing up in the sixties, with undiagnosed dyslexia and autism, Willard experienced a heart-breakingly difficult childhood as his confidence was crushed at school by a taunting teacher he will never forget. However as Willard’s late mother always said, “Don’t get bitter, get better” — and that’s just what Willard did.
Turning to his love for crafting all things minute, Willard began at just six-years-old to build tiny pieces of furniture for his beloved garden ants, and his work only got smaller from there. Now, Willard is recognised across the globe, by his fans and also by royalty, for his miraculous sculptures that can only be viewed through a microscope.
Despite the painstaking process of carving his creations, Willard’s unbreakable determination ignited by his mother and fuelled by a need to prove those who have underestimated him wrong, always sees him through. Willard really is the ‘Micro-Angelo’ of our time.

This week’s episode of Conversations of Inspiration sees Holly speak with psychotherapist, speaker and author, Anna Mathur.

Anna is a strong believer that needing help and support isn’t failure; it’s a prerequisite of being human.

It’s easy to feel like a failure. It’s easy to feel guilty for not giving enough of yourself to your work, to your family, to your friends, and it's easy to feel alone with these thoughts. Anna has an amazing way of normalising these emotions, encouraging us to accept our humanness and giving us the gift of being able to find compassion for ourselves.

A total breath of fresh air, Anna has a really honest and open view of her own life which allows you to look at yours through a different lens, lower the bar for yourself and accept that you are enough.

If you are in need of a warm hug, grab yourself a cup of tea, curl up, and listen to this conversation. It has the power to change your life.

S10: Changing the craft landscape, with Sophie Sellu, founder of Grain & Knot25 Jan 202100:57:37
This week Holly talks to Sophie Sellu, founder of Grain & Knot. Born from a love of nature and the need for purpose in creation, Sophie makes beautifully tactile, fully functional kitchen utensils using modern design and traditional tools and methods.

After being made redundant and deciding to attend a wood carving course,  Sophie bought an axe and a set of knives and set about carving her own future, by embracing a craft that she loved.

Embracing ‘slow’ is part of Sophie’s philosophy and she discusses the early days of honing her woodcarving skills, the joy of sharing the mental health benefits of crafting and her desire to build a soulful and sustainable brand.
