Incubus' Brandon Boyd on Morning View XXIII

Morning View by Incubus is a classic. With the band shifting from nu metal to a more alternative rock style, the album spawned hit singes like "Wish You Were Here," "Drive," and "Warning." In 2021, the band celebrated the album's 20th anniversary with a livestreamed full-album performance at the Malibu location where the LP was originally recorded. The celebration continues this year with the release of a freshly re-recorded version of the LP dubbed Morning View XXIII (out May 10th) and an upcoming summer that will see Incubus playing the album in full alongside other classics (get tickets here).
For our latest episode of Consequence UNCUT, Brandon Boyd chats with Associate Editor Paolo Ragusa about where Incubus was during the original Morning View era, revisiting it for XXIII, and how they have grown into seasoned and settled performers.

Nate Bargatze has been a respected standup comedian for years, but he's never had a year like 2023 -- which is why Consequence is naming him our Comedian of the Year. With his relatable, clean humor mining everyday situations for laugh, Bargatze broke records with both his new Amazon Prime Video special Hello World and his "Be Funny Tour," which smashed attendance records at Bridgestone Arena in his Nashville hometown. He also turned in one of the best Saturday Night Live hosting gigs in years.

James Ford made a name for himself by refusing to be pinned down and this year is no exception. In addition to the release of his first solo LP, The Hum, Ford produced Jessie Ware’s That! Feels Good!, Geese’s 3D Country, Depeche Mode’s Memento Mori, the self-titled debut from Graham Coxon and Rose Elinor Dougall’s The WAEVE, and Blur’s first album in eight years, The Ballad of Darren. Not only that, he worked with breakout newcomers The Last Dinner Party and Fat Dog.

We caught up with the artist aka Sabrina Teitelbaum in the middle of her tour with Liz Phair. Calling in froma Minneapolis hotel room, Blondshell spoke with Associate Editor Paolo Ragusa about her grungy songwriting, toxic relationship habits, and being on the road for Phair's Welcome to Guyville 30th anniversary celebration.

For many, their first taste of Brooklyn rapper Lola Brooke came with 2021’s in-your-face banger “Don’t Play with It.” The track’s skittering trap beat, aggressive flow, and sheer confidence made it a favorite both in the scene and online, sparking somewhat of a viral trend. In the two years since, Lola has hunkered down, developed herself as an artist, and dropped some great one-off tracks along the way. Now, she finally arrives with her much-anticipated debut album, Dennis Daughter, and by the looks of it, a whole lot more people are about to learn of the rising talent.

Jimmy Iovine Believes “Fame Has Replaced Great”

Spend time on the internet and you’ll soon hear some variation on “the grind never stops.” But after nearly 50 years in the music industry, Jimmy Iovine, now 70, begs to differ: “Maybe there’s one person in their 80s or 90s that could be as effective and is in it as much as somebody who’s 40 or even 50, but I don’t want to be that person,” he says, “I want to experiment. I want to do a lot of things. I want to help people, but everywhere I’m involved has great CEOs in it. I’m not the CEO. The hook is not in my mouth. I spit out that hook.”
