Specifically, Gavin's family did sign paperwork consenting to a cremation, but only did so because they were under the impression that an autopsy had already been performed. Additionally, his death was ruled positional asphyxia, not an overdose, though investigators made clear they suspected drug use due to the positional asphyxia.
