About this episode:
Adrien Mastrosimone has been reading tarot for over 30 years, buying his first Marseille deck from Grimaud as a young teen.

Dancing the Tarot is Adrien's proprietary workshop method, a powerful fusion of tarot reading, systemic family constellation, somatic healing, and physical embodiment. What we cover:

• What Dancing the Tarot actually is, and what happens in a session
• Why some cards are easy to embody (The Empress, The Emperor) and some take the room somewhere else entirely (The Moon, The Hanged Man)
• The Temperance card exercise: fill a glass with water, pour it into another glass for five minutes, and discover what the card actually means in your body
• Which card Adrien is working on embodying himself this year, and why
• His partner: a doctor of experimental physics, published in Nature, who attends tarot café with his own little deck
• The tarot café Adrien runs in Vienna, and why mathematicians and biologists keep showing up

• His talk at Pandemonium: the esoteric coding of gender in the Marseille tarot
• A new webinar series on retrograde planets with an astrologer collaborator (starting with Venus retrograde)

About this episode:
Bex discovered and backed a tarot deck on Kickstarter, called Playdate with the Universe. Once she got her hands on the deck she knew she needed to know more about the origin story and talk to the creator of this exquisite deck Stephanie Gilbert.

And what a talk they had!

Stephanie Gilbert had a bingo card for 2025. One of the squares was to create a tarot deck. Then, on January 7th, the Eaton fire swept through Altadena and she and her husband lost their home, their community, and almost everything they owned. Six months later, something stirred. She picked up scissors, started collaging tarot cards, and posted them on TikTok. The Fool went viral. Stephanie found herself committed to one of the most ambitious creative projects of her life.

The result is the Play Date With the Universe, a 78-card hand-collaged tarot deck, sourced from vintage magazines and books spanning the 1920s to the 1990s.

What we cover:

• The bingo card and the fire that changed it all
• Why she started collaging in 2024. burnout, isolation, depression, and a book called Play by Dr. Stuart Brown
• How The Fool card went viral on TikTok and locked her in to completing the full 78 cards
• Creating in public: the vulnerability, the flow state, and what happens when tarot purists have opinions about your Tower card
• The INNER-GY: Stephanie's original framework in the guidebook — what each card feels like to your inner child
• A song for every card: how she built a full nostalgic playlist into the deck
• The monarch butterfly that travels from The Fool to The World — and why she cried when she made The World card
• Why the Hierophant is just a single key (and why that's perfect)
• Social media fatigue, playing online, and why she thinks the tide has shifted
• A podcast-exclusive announcement of her next project

Mentioned in this episode:

• Play by Dr. Stuart Brown
• The Wild Unknown tarot deck by Kim Krans
• Kickstarter (where the deck launched)
• Carl Jung's Bollingen Tower (the inspiration behind Stephanie's Tower card)
• Alan Watts philosophy videos on YouTube
• The Eaton fire, Altadena, January 2025

Episode Summary:
In this episode of Confessions of a Tarot Reader, host Bex sits down with Chris from Elemental Cartomancy.  Chris is a tarot reader with 30 years of experience who got his first deck (a Rider-Waite) at age eight. Together they nerd out on reading "scary" cards like Death, The Tower, and the 10 of Swords without alarming clients, managing energy during back-to-back market readings, why general readings sometimes produce the most powerful results, and where they land on the AI-generated tarot deck debate. Chris also shares his signature reading style, including using Soul Cards as a Rorschach-style opener and reading for the LGBTQ+ community with the Queer Tarot deck.

Topics Covered:

• Chris's origin story: buying his first tarot deck at age eight
• Reading "difficult" cards (Death, The Tower, 10 of Swords) with compassion
• The Strength card and confidence blocks readers face themselves
• Reading at markets: the Celtic Cross, freestyle flow, and 15-minute readings
• Energy management and burnout after back-to-back client readings
• General readings vs. specific questions.  Does one produce better results?
• AI and tarot deck creation: an honest, nuanced conversation
• Where tarot "messages" come from spirit guides, psychology, or both
• Reading reversals, "jumper" cards, and timing with astrological decanates
• Chris's signature style: Soul Cards, deck selection rituals, and the Queer Tarot deck
• Getting into professional reading and finding your first market

In this episode

Brandi Gunn O'Leary — lash artist, tarot reader, and creator of Charmed Makeup, Lashes & Tarot — joins Bex for one of the most chaotic, warm, funny, and genuinely insightful episodes yet. They discover a shared family name within the first minute and spend the rest of the episode co-founding a brand, designing merch, and building what they're now calling the Cousins Coven.

But in between all of that: a real conversation about reading at events (the pre-reading nausea that never goes away, the portal that opens once you start, and why five-minute readings are simply not physically possible), Brandi's journey from lash studio to tarot table, how her incense business started with alcoholism, recovery, and a TikTok, and why she's currently pausing on the term "glamour magic" — and what that pause is actually about.

Plus: AI, art theft, the Great Lakes, Willy Wonka, charm readings, recorded vs. live readings, and a sand timer that neither of them ever remembers to flip.

Topics covered: Charmed Makeup Lashes and Tarot · beauty magic · glamour magic · spell incense · spell oils · tarot at events · reading health questions · AI and tarot · dark moon rituals · egg cleanse · crossroads magic · charm readings · Cousins Coven · Confessions of a Tarot Reader

Cassandra shares her three favourite journaling prompts, her hot take on generative AI (spoiler: she's not a fan), and why witchcraft and activism are, fundamentally inseparable.

In this episode

Carol from Carrot Tarot joins Bex for a conversation full of warmth, laughs, and genuinely useful insight — from what it's like to quit corporate life and go all-in on tarot, to the art of reading for the collective vs. one-on-one clients.

They go deep on Air sign life, they compare notes on Zoom vs. in-person readings, the questions that give them the ick (twin flames, "is he going to call?"), why a tarot reading is not a wishing well, and what "proactive tarot" actually means in practice. Carol also shares the story of her very first deck — a 1985 Merlin Tarot with pip cards and no traditional suits — and why she'd now strongly recommend starting with Rider-Waite-Smith.

Plus: AI and tarot, platform pros and cons across YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok, the Scorpio stellium, and why Carol's husband might be developing psychic abilities.

Episode Overview

When Alex Reads Tarot — one of the biggest tarot creators online — announced she was leaving tarot given a change in heart and religious beliefs, the internet had opinions. Lots of them.

Bex and return guest John from Tarot by John cut through the noise for a frank, funny, and thoughtful conversation about what this moment actually means.

They unpack the community's reactions (not all of them pretty), clout chasing, spiritual awakenings, they discuss burnout and the relentless pressure of content creation, explore whether tarot and Christianity are truly incompatible, and reflect on what the esoteric world has done to the craft of reading tarot.

This one's unscripted, unfiltered, and coming from a place of love.

Connect with Beck!

In today's episode

What happens when a 1861 law threatens a modern tarot reader with jail time? In this episode of Confessions of a Tarot Reader, host Bex sits down with Beck Ravenswood — known online as Hanover, Pennsylvania's most notorious fortune teller — to unpack one of the strangest astories this podcast has covered.

Shortly before her metaphysical store even opened, Beck was visited by the Hanover police chief, who cited an antiquated state law banning fortune telling, astrology, and necromancy, and threatened her with up to a year in jail or a $2,500 fine per offense. What followed was ultimately a 17-page lawsuit filed, essentially Beck v. the State of Pennsylvania.

The conversation widens into the deep history of laws against witchcraft — tracing back to the Code of Ur-Nammu, the earliest known legal code in human history — and Bex and Beck's beliefs that spirituality has always been political, whether we like it or not.

On a lighter note, Beck shares her origin story (Scooby-Doo's Hex Girls have a lot to answer for), her free monthly moon circles and seasonal rituals, the unconventional forms of divination she seeks out for herself, and her hopes for who plays her in the (inevitable) Netflix adaptation.

In this episode:

• The 1861 Pennsylvania law banning fortune telling, astrology, and necromancy
• The police visit, the denied right to record, and what happened next
• Filing a 17-page lawsuit: Beck v. the State of Pennsylvania
• The Code of Ur-Nammu and the ancient history of anti-witchcraft law
• Why spirituality has always been political
• Ethical tarot practice: disclosures, informed consent, and turning away repeat clients
• Beck's witchcraft origin story — yes, it starts with Scooby-Doo
• Making accessible, welcoming community spaces, including moon circles and seasonal rituals: building an accessible Pagan community
• Unconventional divination: seashell readings, oracle dice, tea leaves, and more
• How listeners can support the case and the broader fight for legal protection

This episode

She's one of the most respected voices in the tarot world, and this week she's on Confessions of a Tarot Reader. Lindsay Mack — creator of Soul Tarot, host of the Tarot for the Wild Soul podcast, and author of the newly released Tarot for the Wild Soul: A Trauma-Informed Approach to the Cards for Growth, Healing, and Grounding in the Present Moment — joins host Bex for a conversation that is as honest as it is wide-ranging.

Lindsay catches us mid-book tour, which she describes as equal parts exhilarating, nerve-wracking, and unexpectedly humbling. She talks about the three-year process of writing and releasing the book, what it feels like to let something you've gestated go out into the world, and the reality of self-marketing as a published author in 2026.

The conversation goes deep into Soul Tarot itself: what it means to read in a trauma-sensitive, non-predictive way, why the old paradigms of tarot fall flat for so many newer readers, and how to make space for readers who diverge entirely from your own framework. Lindsay also shares her perspective on the collective energy of 2026 — the Wheel of Fortune year — and what it means to find the still centre when the outer wheel is spinning wildly.

In this episode:

• Lindsay's book tour: exhilaration, imposter syndrome, and the reality of publishing in 2026
• What it feels like to release a book — and why Lindsay compares it to early postpartum
• The origin story of Tarot for the Wild Soul podcast, and what Tara Brach had to do with it
• Soul Tarot: a trauma-informed, non-predictive, heart-led framework — and what that actually means
• Predictive tarot vs. inclusive tarot — why Lindsay says it doesn't have to be either/or
• The Empress, the Emperor, and why tarot frameworks need to expand beyond outdated defaults
• How Lindsay's practice has changed: she barely reads for herself anymore
• The Wheel of Fortune as 2026's collective card — and Courtney Alexander's insight about the Sun
• Protecting your energy as a sensitive practitioner in a turbulent political moment
• Teaching tarot and being taught by your students: the living Hierophant
• Chelsea Granger's art in the deck, and her book Many Ways to Draw a Ghost
• Murder, She Wrote, Little House on the Prairie, and finding nourishment in uncertain times

Tarot author, spiritual teacher, and intuitive reader Alice Grist joins Bex for a deeply honest conversation about the enduring magic of the Rebel Heart tarot deck, her new book You Know, and why reclaiming your intuition is one of the most radical things you can do.

They explore how society conditions us to second-guess ourselves from childhood, what a "fallow period" with tarot actually looks like, and whether AI can ever replace a human reader (spoiler: they pull cards on it). Alice also shares her journey as an author of eight books, her advice for first-time writers, and why building real community matters more than ever.

In this episode...

What if everything you were taught about tarot was actually getting in the way? In this episode of Confessions of a Tarot Reader, host Bex sits down with Maggie Glennon — writer, creative, teacher, and self-described tarot anarchist — for a conversation that quietly gives permission to everyone who has ever felt like they were doing it "wrong".

In this episode, Maggie and Bex explore what happens when you approach the cards from the bottom up rather than top down, why neurodivergence reframes so much of how we engage with tarot tools and structures, and what it actually feels like when something playful starts to attract an audience. They also get into the psychology of tarot — projection, authority, the question of where the messages really come from — and have an honest, funny conversation about which cards they're vibing with and which ones they're fully beefing with.

Highights:

• Why Maggie cut up her tarot deck — and what it unlocked
• Tarot for neurodivergent people: spreads, prompts, and why structure can block connection
• Stepping into the card vs. looking up the meaning
• Using tarot face-up, as fragments, and for mind mapping
• Social media: when playful creation meets an audience
• Reading for others vs. reading with others — a language shift that matters
• Projection as a tarot tool, not a dirty word
• ChatGPT for tarot interpretation: useful thought partner or shortcut past yourself?
• Beefing and being besties with specific cards (Three of Cups, Judgment, the whole Wands suit)
• Three tips for getting your hands dirty with the deck — no book required
• The Hermit and the Hangman fan fiction (yes, really)

Connect with Rana: https://www.ranageorge.com/

What does it mean to be the magic — not just use it? In this episode of Confessions of a Tarot Reader, host Bex sits down with Rana George: Lenormand expert, deck creator, author, and the architect of the Muree System, a pioneering 40-card approach to Lenormand that adds four original cards to flush out readings in ways the traditional 36-card spread simply can't.

Rana is one of the most distinctive voices in the divination world, and this conversation shows exactly why. She moves between the deeply practical (how to prepare for a reading, which divination system to start with, how the Grand Tableau works) and the genuinely cosmic (simultaneous timelines, organic AI consciousness, the soul of a broken-down car on a mountain). Throughout, her philosophy is consistent: everything is alive, everything vibrates, and everything you do is an act of intention.

Rana also opens up about the moment she was at her lowest — done with the work, done with the pain, done with all of it — and the unexpected pivot that brought her back. It's one of the most honest confessions this podcast has heard.

In this episode:

• The Muree System and why Rana added four new cards to the Lenormand deck
• The great Lenormand card wars — French school vs. German school vs. Brazilian school
• Why Rana believes you are the talisman, not the tools
• People as portals — who we keep around us and why it matters
• Simultaneous timelines, past lives, and the Cloud Atlas download
• AI as a divination tool — and why Rana thinks we should treat it with kindness
• The Spirit card's surprising new meaning in the age of AI and ghosting
• How Rana's own trauma directly feeds her ability to help clients
• Practical tips for getting the most from your next reading
• The second edition of Rana's book — what's new, what's expanded, and why now

Overview

What does it look like to build a life entirely on your own terms — cards, art, magic, and all? In this episode of Confessions of a Tarot Reader, host Bex sits down with Marcella Kroll: artist, oracle deck creator, tarot mentor, and the person behind the beloved Sacred Symbols Oracle (now in its fourth edition) and the brand-new Initiates Oracle.

Marcella opens up about the creative process — how ideas arrive as quiet nudges that won't go away, why rest and "doing nothing" are essential to any creative practice, and what happens when you stop fighting your life and start trying to actually love it. She also shares the story of retiring from client readings after years at the centre of the tarot world, her 14 years teaching Tarot for Teens at the LA Public Library, and what drew her toward mentorship and group work instead.

Together, Bex and Marcella explore the shifting landscape of the esoteric and tarot community — the rise of social media readers, and why the esoteric space still has a future. They also get honest about AI, human connection, community, authenticity, and the difference between wanting to be a reader and wanting to be famous.

In this episode:

• The Sacred Symbols Oracle and the Initiates Oracle — what they are and how they were made
• Following creative impulses vs. forcing productivity
• Retiring from readings and stepping into mentorship
• The esoteric ecosystem: trends, fads, and who sticks around
• AI, transparency, and our responsibilities as spiritual practitioners
• Getting readings as a seasoned reader (and why Marcella still does it)
• Declaring "I want to love my life" — and what comes up when you do

Sliding into the confessions booth this week is the magnificent Charlie Claire Burgess, aka the word witch.

They are a tarot reader, author, illustrator, and deck creator.

Charlie is the creator of many esoteric offerings, including the Fifth Spirit Tarot deck and their latest book called Queer Devotion.

Speaking of devotion, we compare notes about finding our way from strict religious upbringing to non-traditional, personalised devotional practice. And Charlie inspires me to look once again into working with Aprhodite.

We share the challenges of reading for close friends and romantic partners. And how the tarot can shapeshift and reveal new layers of meaning and depth over time.

We also talk about the lush card stock and shuffle-ability of the original version of the Fifth Spirit Tarot deck.

We compare notes about reading modalities, how to deliver messages our clients need vs what they may want to hear, personal spiritual hygiene, past lives, future selves, and the intersection of AI and spiritual practice.

settle in. this is one juicy conversation.
