| Week 8 overreaction: Ohio State beats Penn State, USC falls to Utah & the latest on Michigan’s sign stealing investigation | 22 Oct 2023 | 01:15:00 | |
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde break down this weekend’s biggest games, upsets & news coming out of Week 8 in the college football season. Ohio State came out on top over Penn State in a highly anticipated Big Ten matchup. The crew questions whether James Franklin will ever be able to win the big game when it matters most. Meanwhile, Ohio State’s defense shined in this win making Penn State’s offense look disjointed and shaky. The Utah Utes took care of business by taking down USC in a big Pac-12 matchup. Lincoln Riley’s team is now effectively removed from College Football Playoff contention and the situation leaves USC fans wondering what could have been this season. With a pending move to the Big Ten, the guys suggest that Lincoln Riley needs to build a tougher team for the much tougher conference. Alabama and Nick Saban proved that they are still alive this year after crushing Tennessee at home. Great coaches find a way to win the tough games, and Saban showed that in the second half after trailing the Volunteers in the first. Michigan taking on Michigan State was a wild one. Aside from the 49-0 rout that Michigan delivered, the fan antics and scoreboard graphics provided a confusing environment. The Michigan sign stealing investigation has also progressed. Dan gives his theory as to what really took place with the alleged sign stealing and tries to provide some clarity to those still puzzled about what reporting the news actually entails. Iowa took a tough loss this week as a a punt return touchdown late in the 4th quarter was overturned after officials ruled a fair catch was signaled prior to the return. There may be hope for Mario Cristobal yet as Miami took a win over Dabo Swinney’s Clemson team. The Hurricanes will try to build off this momentum for the rest of the season heading into 2024. To close out the podcast, the guys provide their Small Sample Heisman candidates & play a around of Say Something Nice. 1:00 - Ohio State beats Penn State 15:00 - USC falls to Utah 27:31 - Michigan State’s tough night 33:55 - Michigan’s sign stealing investigation update 52:10 - Iowa loses on overturned punt return touchdown 58:10 - Clemson falls to Miami 1:01:35 - Small Sample Heisman 1:07:18 - Say Something Nice Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger 🖥️ Watch this full episode on YouTube Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
| Michigan under investigation for alleged cheating & Race for the Case Week 8 | 19 Oct 2023 | 00:58:25 | |
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde kick off the podcast detailing new allegations around Jim Harbaugh in Michigan football, in which the NCAA is investigating the team illegally sending advance scouts to steal signs and gain other competitive advantages. Dan & Ross broke today’s blockbuster news, and while there are no rules against stealing signs in-game, there are rules about in-person scouting and sign stealing using electronic transmissions. The podcast reacts to the news and how this could add a cloud to Michigan’s current football season and stain seasons past. Pat wonders whether or not Michigan are high frequency cheaters or just really bad at getting away with it. While the narrative of the season has definitely changed for Michigan, the guys debate what the next move for Jim Harbaugh is if this investigation is proven to be accurate. Moving away from the Michigan scandal, Week 8 has some interesting games to keep an eye on. There is a big MAC matchup between Toledo & Miami of Ohio, Minnesota and Iowa are squaring off in an expected low-scoring affair & we get the Hugh Freeze bowl in a matchup between Auburn and Ole Miss. Meanwhile in Oklahoma, Tulsa is trying to break the world record for the world’s largest beer tasting event ahead of their game vs Rice. And where animal news meets football news, a Montana man was traumatized after being attacked by a grizzly bear and is channeling his anger towards the University of Montana. To close out the podcast, the guys give their picks against the spread for the #7 ranked Penn State Nittany Lions at the #3 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes, the #17 ranked Tennessee Volunteers at the #11 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide, the #16 ranked Duke Blue Devils visiting the #4 ranked Florida State Seminoles, the #14 ranked Utah Utes at the #18 ranked USC Trojans, the Clemson Tigers at the Miami Hurricanes, and as always, Dan, Ross and Pat give their locks of the week. 1:00 - Michigan is under investigation for alleged rule violations connected to sign stealing 25:04 - Most interesting games of the weekend 34:21 - Tulsa is trying to break the world record for the largest beer tasting event 36:10 - Man has developed serious hatred for the University of Montana after bear attack 38:23 - #7 Penn State @ #3 Ohio State 43:42 - #17 Tennessee @ #11 Alabama 46:26 - #16 Duke @ #4 Florida State 48:33 - #14 Utah @ #18 USC 51:00 - Clemson @ Miami 54:04 - Lock of the week Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger 🖥️ Watch this full episode on YouTube Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
| Penn State vs. Ohio State preview, Brock Bowers injury & possible collective bargaining for student athletes | 18 Oct 2023 | 01:14:42 | |
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde take a look into this weekend’s most interesting game between Big Ten rivals Ohio State and Penn State before diving into a bevy of other college football news. Both Ryan Day and James Franklin need a win this weekend to keep their playoff hopes alive but the guys question which coach needs it more. James Franklin has yet to get his signature win at Penn State and beating Ohio State this year could give him just that. Ryan Day has been feeling the pressure after dropping two in a row to Michigan, and a loss to Penn State could put him on the hot seat for the Buckeye faithful. We get a rematch of one of last season’s craziest games on Saturday when Tennessee squares off with Alabama again. The tone of this game is different as neither team is equipped for another high-scoring affair, so the winning team needs do it in the trenches. The expectations for Alabama are significantly higher than Tennessee’s right now, so Nick Saban doesn’t want to lose two-in-a-row to the Volunteers. Georgia’s star tight end for Brock Bowers was injured in last week’s game against Vanderbilt. Bowers is expected to undergo ankle surgery in hopes to return to the team before the College Football Playoff. South Carolina coach Shane Beamer had an injury of his own this past weekend after kicking something that he shouldn’t have after losing a tight game to Florida and breaking a bone in his foot. The guys turn their focus to Dabo Swinney, who spoke out about the expectations that are put on the Clemson football team. Swinney doesn’t like that the perception that teams are losers if they’re not undefeated and hopes that a down-year can lighten up the Clemson bandwagon. After many successful seasons at Clemson, Dabo’s biggest problem seems to be that he was too successful in years past. The 10th Congressional NIL hearing took place on Tuesday and the guys tracked it intently. Ross was in attendance and got to report on the theatrics, as well as have a conversation with Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick, who believes that collective bargaining for student athletes may be coming sooner than we speak. The crew debates the pros and cons of having student athletes be considered employees and why this matter has even been elevated to the halls of congress. To close out the podcast, the world now has a new record for the spiciest pepper, as a report came out detailing the process of creating ‘Pepper X’ & the potentially dangerous aftermath of consuming it. 1:00 - Big Ten is back with Penn State vs. Ohio State 20:54 - Tennessee vs. Alabama 27:20 - Brock Bowers is out 4-6 weeks with ankle surgery 32:32 - Shane Beamer’s broken foot 34:25 - Dabo Swinney doesn’t appreciate the lofty expectations for Clemson football 37:40 - 10th Congressional NIL hearing took place Tuesday in Washington, DC 1:05:40 - New world record for hottest pepper Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger 🖥️ Watch this full episode on YouTube Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
| Week 7 overreaction: USC falls to Notre Dame, Washington beats Oregon & the Hawkeye train is rolling | 15 Oct 2023 | 01:00:13 | |
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde react to all of the major games that took place this weekend in college football as quite a handful of ranked teams suffered a loss on Saturday. The Washington Huskies took home a win in a game-of-the-year candidate against the Oregon Ducks. With all of the high-powered offensive fireworks, along with the in-conference rivalry, there was a lot to break down from the matchup. Dan Lanning’s decision-making on 4th downs confused the guys as his system has not worked well enough in close games against good opponents and a key turnover on downs gave the Washington offense a short field in the eventual game-winning drive. Marcus Freeman’s system worked against USC as the Fighting Irish took down the Trojans 48-20. USC was a mess in this game and Notre Dame took advantage of it by consistently turning over Caleb Williams and executing on special teams. The cream is starting to rise a bit in the SEC as Tennessee staved off Texas A&M, Alabama beat Arkansas, & Missouri took down Kentucky. The Colorado Buffaloes had a tough one on Friday night as they lost to Stanford after leading by as much as 29 points in the game. The guys determine that this is a loss where things could falls apart for the Buffs and that Coach Deion Sanders needs to get past this as soon as possible or Colorado could miss bowl season. The Iowa Hawkeyes went on the road and beat Wisconsin with punting, defense and 2 catches from wide receivers. Kirk Ferentz is simultaneously on the hottest and coldest seats in college football thanks to his 6-1 record, yet having an offense so bad that it could squander a championship-caliber defense. To the guys’ dismay, Grazer won Fat Bear Week with a record setting performance over runner-up Chunk. To close out the podcast, the guys give out their Small Sample Heisman candidates & play a round of Say Something Nice. 1:00 - Washington takes down Oregon 36-33 21:10 - Notre Dame stomps USC 48-20 29:25 - Around the SEC: Tennessee beats Texas A&M, Alabama holds off Arkansas 39:41 - Colorado blows a 29-point lead at home against Stanford 45:32 - Iowa Hawkeyes are rolling, defeat Wisconsin 51:07 - Fat Bear Week Championship 51:38 - Small Sample Heisman 54:38 - Say Something Nice Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger 🖥️ Watch this full episode on YouTube Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
| Race for the Case week 7: Oregon vs. Washington, USC vs. Notre Dame & Kansas vs. the NCAA | 12 Oct 2023 | 01:01:50 | |
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde pick the biggest college football matchups in week 7 against the spread in this week’s Race for the Case. Before their picks, the hosts break down the latest in the NCAA’s case against the Kansas Jayhawks basketball team as well as how it caused the IARP to shut down. After six years, a ruling on the five Level I infractions against Kansas has been determined and Bill Self is walking away unscathed. The IARP will be remembered as an abject failure as anyone who faced it went virtually unpunished. Dan provides his idea for what Charlie Baker should present to Congress next. A full restart and clean slate may be necessary for this new regime to try and earn some credibility. Week 7 has a bundle of interesting games so the pod decides to go through their favorite watches for the upcoming weekend, including the battle for the Big Ten West, the anniversary of a 0-0 regulation game & the matchup for first place in the Mountain West. The University of Washington’s new AD Troy Dannen made waves after being announced. Dannen decided to chirp Texas and Ohio State, stating that they should win more given the size of their annual budgets. To close out the show, the guys give their Race for the Case picks for the No. 8 Oregon Ducks at the No. 7 Washington Huskies, the Texas A&M Aggies at the No. 19 Tennessee Volunteers, the No. 10 USC Trojans @ the No. 21 Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the No. 25 Miami Hurricanes at the No. 12 UNC Tarheels, the No. 18 UCLA Bruins at the No. 15 Oregon State Beavers, and as always, Dan, Ross and Pat give their locks of the week. 1:00 - Kansas vs. the NCAA 13:19 - What Charlie Baker should tell Congress 26:08 - The most interesting games of the weekend 42:27 - Washington’s new AD Troy Dannen talked some trash about budgets 44:25 - No. 8 Oregon at No. 7 Washington 47:29 - Texas A&M at No. 19 Tennessee 49:18 - No. 10 USC at No. 21 Notre Dame 52:30 - No. 25 Miami at No. 12 UNC 55:07 - No. 18 UCLA at No. 15 Oregon State 56:30 - Lock of the Week Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger 🖥️ Watch this full episode on YouTube Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
| Mark Stoops wants more money, Oregon faces off against Washington & will Jim Harbaugh get the big contract? | 10 Oct 2023 | 01:04:54 | |
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde kick off the podcast breaking down Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops’s attempt to get more money in his program through NIL donations. On his radio show after a tough loss to Georgia, Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops explains that Georgia has been able to buy more talented players due to their reservoir of NIL money. Stoops then attempts to urge Kentucky football fans to help out the program by donating to lure more talent onto the team. Is this a strategy more programs should employ, or is the request a bit tone deaf coming from a coach who is making $8 million a year? Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh is looking to secure a new contract after taking a pay reduction in 2020. The guys debate whether or not Harbaugh should get the market value top coach contract. #8 ranked Oregon and #7 ranked Washington headline this weekend’s slate of games. Both teams are equipped with high-powered offenses and such an exciting match up will make fans yearn for more Pac-12 football after this year. More clarity has been provided following the Miami Hurricanes’ game-losing gaffe against Georgia Tech. Despite the scrutiny and madness centered around him, head coach Mario Cristobal took accountability and was also able to use the situation swing a recruit from Georgia to commit to Miami. Ross spent Saturday with SEC commissioner Greg Sankey and details his takeaways afterwards. The guys reflect on Sankey’s reign as the SEC commissioner as well as what could be coming next for college athletics. To close out the podcast, it’s theFat Bear Week finals and the crew has decided to rally behind Chunk instead of the fraudulent Grazer. Also, in more food malfeasance news, Texas Pete comes out of its false advertising lawsuit unscathed. 1:00 - Mark Stoops wants Kentucky fans to give more money 16:08 - Will Jim Harbaugh get a new contract? 27:02 - Oregon vs Washington preview 40:16 - Mario Cristobal’s rollercoaster weekend in Miami 42:41 - Ross’s day with SEC commissioner Greg Sankey 54:57 - Fat Bear Week finals are upon us 60:11 - Texas Pete hot sauce lawsuit update Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger 🖥️ Watch this full episode on YouTube Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
| Week 6 overreaction: Miami loses to Georgia Tech, Oklahoma beats Texas & the USC freakshow | 08 Oct 2023 | 01:07:00 | |
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde break down all the action that took place on a very hectic Saturday of college football. Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes lost in shocking fashion to Georgia Tech after a mind-boggling decision to not kneel out the game. Miami had the game locked up, but decided to run a play instead of taking a knee, prompting a fumble and a walk-off touchdown from Georgia Tech. Alabama shipped off to Texas to take on Texas A&M this Saturday. The Tide were able to leave with a victory & the pod breaks down how it happened as well as the discomfort from Texas A&M fans knowing that they could have stolen a big win. The Red River Rivalry returned and left us with a good one. The fellas discuss how good of a job Brent Venables has done since last year’s 49-0 drubbing. The Sooners picked up a big win and made the rest of the season much harder for the Longhorns. Notre Dame appears to have lost its footing as it was upset by Louisville this weekend. Jeff Brohm has done a tremendous job so far and has the Louisville program humming. Notre Dame can’t seem to figure out who it wants to be yet after falling to 5-2 overall. USC was lucky to escape with a win against a fired-up Arizona team. The USC offense was not clicking & the defense seems to be regressing every week. The state of Iowa had a good time this weekend as the Hawkeyes got another win to move to 5-1 & the Cyclones decided to have an interesting dinosaur-themed field performance. The Fat Bear Week committee has been called into question by Dan, as his pick 747 was eliminated from the bracket by Grazer. To close out the pod, the guys Say Something Nice & give out their Small Sample Heisman candidates. 1:00 - Miami declines to kneel out the win, loses to Georgia Tech 14:07 - Alabama edges out Texas A&M 24:34 - Oklahoma wins the Red River Rivalry 36:13 - Louisville upsets Notre Dame 41:06 - USC beats Arizona in triple-overtime 46:22 - The state of Iowa had a big weekend 51:48 - The Fat Bear Week scandal 55:22 - Small Sample Heisman 59:57 - Say Something Nice Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger 🖥️ Watch this full episode on YouTube Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
| Race for the Case Week 6: Alabama vs. Texas A&M, LSU vs. Missouri & Fat Bear Week picks | 05 Oct 2023 | 01:11:35 | |
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde pick the biggest Week 6 college football matchups against the spread in this week’s Race for the Case. Ahead of their official picks, the hosts give an in-depth preview of the big matchup between Alabama and Texas A&M. The old beef between Jimbo Fisher and Nick Saban has evolved interestingly over the years. Which coach needs a win more in this matchup? Week 6 has some very interesting games, even if they all aren’t ranked matchups, so the guys snake draft their favorites and Ross shares his least watchable game of the week. In Texas-Oklahoma news, one of the show’s many helpful listeners has provided more context to the infamous Red River Rivalry bar brawl that left one man with 60 stitches. A sophomore at Oregon is causing a stir due to his emotional support duck that he brought into the Colorado-Oregon game with him. “Quacktavius” the duck is now a pressing matter in Eugene, as many fans are trying to get the duck permission to attend the games, while campus security and the stadium police department have attempted to have the duck removed from official athletic events. Fat Bear Week returns, so the hosts make their official selections for which bear in the Katmai National Park will gain the most weight ahead of hibernation season. To close out the show, the guys give their Race for the Case picks for the #12 ranked Oklahoma Sooners at the #3 ranked Texas Longhorns, the #23 ranked LSU Tigers at the #21 ranked Missouri Tigers, the Maryland Terrapins visiting the #4 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes, the #11 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide at the Texas A&M Aggies, the #20 ranked Kentucky Wildcats against the #1 ranked Georgia Bulldogs, and as always, Dan, Ross, & Pat give their locks of the week. 0:00 - Introduction 1:00 - Alabama vs. Texas A&M preview 23:33 - Most (and least) interesting games of Week 6 38:00 - Red River Rivalry bar fight update 43:30 - Oregon sophomore’s emotional support duck 48:53 - Fat Bear Week has opened up 53:26 - #12 Oklahoma @ #3 Texas 57:41 - #23 LSU @ #21 Missouri 1:00:20 - Maryland @ #4 Ohio State 1:02:53 - #11 Alabama @ Texas A&M 1:04:58 - #20 Kentucky @ #1 Georgia 1:07:56 - Lock of the week Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger 🖥️ Watch this full episode on YouTube Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
| Red River Rivalry, unexpected undefeated teams & big burger gets one over on the government | 03 Oct 2023 | 01:04:18 | |
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde determine who needs a win more in the last Big 12 occurrence of the Red River Rivalry game. Texas and Oklahoma hold the title of the biggest matchup of the weekend. The historic Red River Rivalry gets its Big 12 sendoff with SEC commissioner Greg Sankey expected to be in attendance, possibly to get a look at his two newest programs. The guys debate which team has more at stake in this game: Texas has a legitimate chance at a national title, with no clear buzzsaw in the SEC to stop them, whereas Oklahoma is trying to carry some momentum into the SEC next year and a big win against #3 ranked Texas could give them just that. There are plenty of unexpected teams that are 5-0 through September so the guys decide to highlight them and note what they have done well so far. Mike Locksley seems to have his best team yet at Maryland as the Terrapins are undefeated going into October. The Miami Hurricanes have been cruising so far, but they have a tough stretch coming up, so Mario Cristobal needs to keep them sharp. Louisville has been reaping the benefits of their transfer portal additions this offseason as Jeff Brohm has the Cardinals rolling. Eli Drinkwitz has been able to utilize NIL incentives to field a strong team in Missouri, who could send LSU into a bad spiral quickly with a win this weekend. The Texas State Fair has returned with a new menu filled with some interesting foods, so the show plays another game of Would You Eat It? Items ranging from deep-fried sushi to cereal-coated pickles highlight this year’s offerings. Ole Miss had to pay LSU $100,000 for fans storming the field after their game in Baton Rouge last weekend. The guys don’t see that amount of money becoming a huge deterrent from stopping passionate and inebriated fans from celebrating on the field. Lastly, a major saga in fast food gets a resolution as a US District Court Judge provides a verdict on the possible false advertising lawsuit against McDonald’s & Wendy’s. 1:00 - Who needs to win the Red River Rivalry the most: Texas or Oklahoma? 22:13 - Unexpectedly undefeated teams: Maryland, Miami, Louisville & Missouri 42:29 - Would you eat it: Texas State Fair edition 51:34 - Ole Miss was fined $100,000 for storming the field vs. LSU 55:18 - A verdict in the McDonalds & Wendy’s lawsuit Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger 🖥️ Watch this full episode on YouTube Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
| Week 5 overreaction: Georgia looks human, USC’s concerning defense & LSU falls to Ole Miss | 01 Oct 2023 | 01:02:40 | |
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde review the loaded slate of Week 5 college football games on today’s podcast. To kick things off, Notre Dame gets a solid bounce-back win against Duke. The Fighting Irish have played in back-to-back rollercoaster games, but come out on top in this one after losing in the final seconds last week to Ohio State. The Georgia Bulldogs had to lean heavily on star tight end Brock Bowers in order to beat Auburn on Saturday. Auburn showed up to play and made Georgia look a little more vulnerable than everyone projected. Kentucky had a dominant win over Florida behind Ray Davis’s 280-yard performance on the ground. The podcast imagines how Florida fans must be feeling after seeing other programs rebuild so quickly while trying to remain patient under the Billy Napier regime. The SEC is a mess this year and there is no clear favorite to win the west division. The guys analyze who could come out on top at the end of the season and separate from the rest of the pack. Ole Miss won in an epic shootout against LSU on Saturday. The Rebels took advantage of LSU’s weak secondary and put Brian Kelly on the warm seat in Baton Rouge. Caleb Williams dominated in a big win over Colorado. Coach Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes tried to climb back in it, but the USC offense just couldn’t be stopped. The USC defense, on the other hand, raises a lot of questions about whether or not they can really compete for a title. The Red River rivalry returns next week with a now 5-0 Texas Longhorns team facing off against a 5-0 Oklahoma Sooners team. This should be the game of the week, so the guys look ahead as the two teams face off for the final time as members of the Big 12. In other news, Dan, Ross & Pat reflect on the infamous murder of Tupac Shakur 27 years ago, and the arrest of his alleged killer Duane “Keffe D” Davis this week in Las Vegas. To close out the episode, the guys provide a Brian Ferentz scoring update, give thoughts on a sleepy Penn State team, they Say Something Nice & give out their Small Sample Heisman candidates. 1:00 - Notre Dame bounces back to beat Duke 6:15 - Georgia edges out Auburn 11:47 - Kentucky cruises past Florida 16:40 - Who will win the SEC West? 20:47 - LSU falls to Ole Miss in a thriller 25:38 - Is USC’s defense a liability? 31:37 - The Red River Rivalry returns next week 38:50 - West Virginia is heating up after beating TCU 42:19 - Tupac Shakur’s killer is identified and charged after 27-year mystery 48:08 - Iowa’s Brian Ferentz scoring update 49:29 - Did Clemson restore any faith after beating Syracuse? 50:35 - Penn State looked shaky vs. Northwestern 52:15 - Say Something Nice 58:13 - Small Sample Heisman Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger 🖥️ Watch this full episode on YouTube Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
| Roster limits, revenue sharing & NIL arbitration: what to make of the milestone NCAA antitrust agreement | 27 Jul 2024 | 00:41:23 | |
On Friday, the NCAA and power conferences filed a 100-plus page agreement settling the three antitrust cases brought against the organizations, the result of which could continue to reshape the college athletics landscape for years to come as it relates to revenue sharing, how many scholarships a university can have on each team and the future of NIL deals. Dan Wetzel and Ross Dellenger break down this landmark deal and explain what this means for the future of college football, most notably with the sport increasing the maximum number of scholarship roster spots from 85 to 105. The guys break down how many of the key points of this agreement may continue to expand the competitive gap between blue blood schools and the mid to low-tier schools in the power conferences. | Race for the Case Week 5: Colorado vs. USC, Georgia vs. Auburn & emotional support alligators vs. the Phillies | 28 Sep 2023 | 01:15:18
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde pick the biggest Week 5 matchups in college football against the spread in this week’s Race for the Case. Before making their official picks, the guys dive back into the Ryan Day vs. Lou Holtz saga. Ryan Day’s post-game outburst after beating Notre Dame seems to be stemming from a place other than Lou Holtz. The guys settle on one thing: if Ohio State wants to stop hearing comments about how they lose to more physical teams, they need to start by beating Michigan this year. Later, the guys run through a handful of make-or-break SEC games that will undoubtedly affect the chase for the playoffs now that October is right around the corner. Colorado coach Deion Sanders spoke in a press conference this week and was asked about cornerback Cormani McClain’s lack of playing time. Coach Prime opened up and explained that McClain hasn’t prepared himself enough to garner more snaps on the field. The crew is taken aback by Sanders’ honesty, as not many college football coaches will explicitly say that their 5-star recruit hasn’t applied himself enough. Ross provides an update from the latest College Football Playoff meetings, along with an update on the possibility of Army joining the American Athletic Conference in the future. The People’s Court returns with two cases: first, did New Mexico State QB Diego Pavia urinate on the practice field logo of in-state rival New Mexico? Secondly, the guys go through details a man being denied entry to a Philadelphia Phillies game due to his emotional support alligator. To close out the podcast, the guys give their Race for the Case picks for the #10 ranked Utah Utes at the #19 ranked Oregon State Beavers, the #8 ranked USC Trojans at the Colorado Buffaloes, the #1 ranked Georgia Bulldogs at the Auburn Tigers, the #13 ranked LSU Tigers at the #20 ranked Ole Miss Rebels, the #11 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish at the #17 ranked Duke Blue Devils, and as always, Dan, Ross & Pat give their locks of the week. 1:00 - What was behind the Ryan Day v Lou Holtz beef? 16:44 - Make-or-break games for the SEC 29:01 - Deion Sanders’ comments on Cormani McClain 43:10 - Army could be moving to the American Athletic Conference 51:05 - The People’s Court: field urination & emotional support alligators 59:52 - #10 Utah @ #19 Oregon State 1:02:15 - #8 USC @ Colorado 1:04:38 - #1 Georgia @ Auburn 1:07:25 - #13 LSU @ #20 Ole Miss 1:08:35 - #11 Notre Dame @ #17 Duke 1:11:20 - Lock of the week Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger 🖥️ Watch this full episode on YouTube Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts There are risks involved with investing in ETFs, including possible loss of money. | Notre Dame travels to Duke, Oregon’s botany lesson & should Florida State be ranked #1? | 26 Sep 2023 | 00:55:21
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde react to Marcus Freeman’s explanation of his coaching gaffe versus Ohio State last Saturday and preview Notre Dame’s upcoming matchup with Duke. After a tough loss to Ohio State last weekend, Notre Dame is looking to bounce back. With playoff hopes still alive, the Fighting Irish have to stave off an athletic and well-coached Duke football program. Duke’s Riley Leonard and Mike Elko have been strong this season and the Blue Devils could be very well playing for the ACC championship late in the season with this squad. This week’s Big Ten football slate is a good example of why TV executives and the conference wanted to expand. The uninspiring matchups should be reduced with new exciting teams entering the conference, but the show questions why the mid-level Big Ten teams wanted the expansion while knowing their fate would be to relegated out of these major nationally televised matchups. Florida State was ranked #5 in this week’s AP poll. The guys debate this ranking as FSU has had the best resume through 4 weeks of college football, while Georgia and Michigan have yet to play a worthy opponent to earn a top-2 spot. Ross is attending College Football Playoff meetings this week as the committee decides how they want to handle automatic bids for the expanded 12-team playoff. Group of Five commissioners obviously want 6 automatic bids, while the Power Five is interested in getting more of their teams in the bracket. How will the future of the tournament shake out? Oregon football released a movie-style recap of their win over Colorado. In the video, Ducks coach Dan Lanning stated, “I’ve never seen a redwood stand alone,” leading the podcast down the botany rabbit hole. This week, Dan constructed the 12-team playoff bracket as if it were in effect this season. The major players involved would make the games fantastic, but the neutral site bowls in the second-round could still detract from the true feeling of the sport. Lastly, a new national champion was crowned from Texas Tech: Cletus Johnson in something known as blade sport. 1:00 - Duke vs. Notre Dame preview 17:27 - NBC is struggling with good Big Ten Matchups 22:17 - Should Florida State be ranked #1? 28:39 - How many automatic bids should the future playoff have? 39:00 - Oregon coach Dan Lanning makes us ask: Can redwoods stand alone? 44:24 - What a 12-team playoff would look like right now 49:00- Can Kentucky fans be ready for a noon kickoff? 50:11- Texas Tech wins the blade sport national championship Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger 🖥️ Watch this full episode on YouTube Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts There are risks involved with investing in ETFs, including possible loss of money. | Week 4 overreaction: Colorado vs Oregon, Alabama vs Ole Miss & Ryan Day vs everybody | 25 Sep 2023 | 00:59:41
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde review a conflict-filled week of college football. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish hosted the Ohio State Buckeyes in an incredibly tough game that went down to the wire. Ohio State pulled off the win on the very last play of the game, partially due to a Marcus Freeman oversight, and let the world know about it. After receiving some criticism from Lou Holtz, Ryan Day fired back at the legendary coach in his postgame interview, leaving the guys in awe. Florida State was able to get past Clemson in overtime on Saturday. The Seminoles defense showed up when they needed it thanks in part to their transfer portal star recruit Keon Coleman, who caught the game-winning touchdown. Coach Deion Sanders and Colorado traveled up to Eugene and left with a bad taste in their mouths after losing 42-6 to the Oregon Ducks. The guys provide their thoughts on the lack of Colorado offense as well as Dan Lanning’s passionate pregame speech about the Buffs. The battle of the Pac-2 came down to the wire as Washington State held off a feverish comeback from Oregon State on the back of quarterback Cam Ward. Washington State head coach had words for Lee Corso, after believing that the College Football Gameday host had called the game “nobody watches bowl” instead of the intended “nobody wants them bowl.” Texas A&M had a big win against Auburn, holding the Hugh Freeze-led offense to under 200 total yards with a suffocating defensive performance. Alabama took care of business and made the Lane Kiffin-led Ole Miss Rebels look like they were being led by Lane Kiffin. Alabama’s meat and potatoes approach wore down Ole Miss and surely hindered their hopes for a playoff berth as well. Penn State looked very sharp against Iowa, leaving them scoreless in a 41-0 drubbing in Happy Valley. To close out the show, the show provides their Innovative Play of the Week, they Say Something Nice and gives out their Small Sample Heisman candidates. 1:00 Ohio State vs Notre Dame & Lou Holtz 19:00 Florida States edges out Clemson in overtime 23:02 Oregon beats Colorado 42-6 29:48 Washington State defeats Oregon State 38-35 34:42 Texas A&M looks sharp vs Auburn 38:00 Alabama responds against Ole Miss 41:52 Penn State won in dominating fashion over Iowa 45:17 The Innovative Play of the Weekend 47:28 Say Something Nice 53:22 Small Sample Heisman Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger 🖥️ Watch this full episode on YouTube Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts There are risks involved with investing in ETFs, including possible loss of money. | Race for the Case Week 4: Ole Miss vs. Alabama, Ohio State vs. Notre Dame & relegation in college football? | 21 Sep 2023 | 01:03:25
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde pick the biggest Week 4 college football games against the spread in this week’s Race for the Case episode. Before they get to the games, the podcast reflects on the massive ratings number that the Colorado State/Colorado game drew on ESPN last Saturday night. The game eclipsed 9 million viewers so the guys determine whether Colorado can keep that viewership up and how long the Coach Prime effect can last. In new meetings, the Pac-12 has been exploring the option of creating a relegation-style football conference. The popular format used in European soccer has excited American fans for years, and the guys wonder how it would operate in football. Congress met this week to discuss revenue sharing within college athletics and our very own Ross was in attendance. Dan and Pat commend Ross for his wardrobe choice and believe it exemplified the podcast and college football itself. This weekend is not for apple picking as the slate of games is packed. The show performs a lightning-round of the games that you will want to keep your eyes on if you’re looking for top-notch college action outside of the ranked matchups. In Race for the Case the guys make their picks as the #4 ranked Florida State Seminoles take on the Clemson Tigers, the #19 ranked Colorado Buffaloes visit the #10 ranked Oregon Ducks, the #15 ranked Ole Miss Rebels travel to the #13 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide, the #14 ranked Oregon State Beavers visit the #21 ranked Washington State Cougars, the #6 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes take on the #9 Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and as always Dan, Ross & Pat give their locks of the week. 1:00 Colorado vs Colorado State amassed 9.3 million viewers 16:28 The Pac-2 is considering a relegation style conference 24:49 Congress meets over revenue sharing 31:35 Fascinating games lightning round 44:40 #4 FSU @ Clemson 46:55 #19 Colorado @ #10 Oregon 49:25 #14 Oregon State @ #21 Washington State 51:10 #15 Ole Miss @ #13 Alabama 53:50 #6 Ohio State @ #9 Notre Dame 57:55 Lock of the Week Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts There are risks involved with investing in ETFs, including possible loss of money. | Ohio State vs Notre Dame, Lane Kiffin’s masterful trolling & Mel Tucker is gone at Michigan State | 19 Sep 2023 | 00:58:17
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde examine the biggest powerhouse matchups for this coming weekend of college football action. The rising Notre Dame Fighting Irish will be facing off with the #6 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. This has the potential to be a career-defining game for Marcus Freeman as a win could push him out of Brian Kelly’s shadow. The #10 ranked Oregon Ducks are hosting the #19 ranked Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday in a big Pac-12 matchup. With the latest news of Travis Hunter’s injury sidelining him for the next 3-4 weeks, the guys believe the Ducks may be too much to handle for Colorado. Lane Kiffin isn’t heading into Alabama quietly as the Ole Miss head coach pulled off two troll jobs on the Crimson Tide already. Kiffin started stirring the pot by stating that he had a source in Tuscaloosa who told him that Alabama defensive coordinator Kevin Steele was not calling the plays for Alabama’s defense. This statement earned a quick response from Nick Saban, who rejected the claim. Kiffin also posted a video of Taylor Swift performing her song ‘Castles Crumbling’. The song has lyrics indicative of a power falling from grace and the end of a dynasty. Another shot at Saban and a not as dominant Alabama squad? The ACC has a huge matchup this weekend between #4 ranked Florida State and Clemson. The show notes that this could be the chance for Mike Norvell and Florida State to finally get back to the top of the ACC by taking down Clemson. In the Big Ten, Michigan State has announced that they are starting the process of firing head football coach Mel Tucker, following allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a female staff member. Pat & Dan dive back into the saga and believe that this will truly be the end of Tucker at MSU. Lastly, the People’s Court takes on a case surrounding a Florida Man, an excavator and a Walmart. 1:00 Notre Dame vs Ohio State 16:35 Colorado heads to Oregon this weekend 26:55 Lane Kiffin’s latest trolling 43:04 Florida State vs Clemson 50:00 Michigan State is in the process of firing Mel Tucker 51:57 The People’s Court Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts There are risks involved with investing in ETFs, including possible loss of money. | Week 3 overreaction: Colorado duels with Colorado State & Florida shocks Tennessee in The Swamp | 17 Sep 2023 | 01:00:00
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde recap all of the action that took place this weekend in college football. Coach Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes won a shootout against in-state rival Colorado State. The podcast dives into the pre-game chippiness along with the impact that Shedeur Sanders makes on the Buffaloes offense. The Tennessee Volunteers left Florida with a bad taste in their mouth after getting upset by the Florida Gators. The sloppy Tennessee offense couldn’t keep up with Billy Napier’s squad and gave Napier his first signature win as the Florida coach. Alabama beat USF this weekend, but did not look very good doing it. The QB rotation of Tyler Buchner and Ty Simpson could not score or move the ball very effectively, leading the show to question what the best move going forward is for the Crimson Tide. In other games, the Georgia Bulldogs looked a bit more human this week vs South Carolina. The departure of Todd Monken and Stetson Bennett seems to be taking more of an impact than expected. Also, the West Virginia Mountaineers defended their home turf this week against Pitt in the Backward Brawl. Next, Fresno State receives praise from the guys after beating Arizona State 29-0. The Bulldogs are now the only team to have two wins against ranked teams on the road this season. Back in Iowa, Brian Ferentz and the Iowa Hawkeyes put up big numbers against Western Michigan. After the 41-point performance, Iowa’s offense is averaging over 25 points per game and Ferentz’ much-publicized contract incentives appear to be on-track. To close out the podcast, the guys give their Innovative Play of the Week, dole out their Small Sample Heisman candidates & play a around of Say Something Nice. 1:00 Colorado edges past Colorado State in double overtime 14:51 Florida stuns Tennessee in the swamp 23:30 Alabama’s QB woes 28:55 Georgia comes out victorious vs South Carolina 31:03 West Virginia wins the backyard brawl 34:08 Fresno State needs to be ranked high 37:36 Iowa and Brian Ferentz put 41 points on Western Michigan 41:14 Fascinating scores in week 3 43:55 Innovative Plays of the Week 46:18 Standout performances from the weekend 49:16 Small Sample Heisman 52:54 Say Something Nice Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts There are risks involved with investing in ETFs, including possible loss of money. | Race for the Case Week 3: Tennessee travels to The Swamp, the Pitt-WVU Backyard Brawl & mummified aliens emerge | 14 Sep 2023 | 01:12:25
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde pick their favorite college football Week 3 games against the spread in this week’s Race for the Case. Before their official picks, the show dives into the details of UNC’s Tez Walker’s appeal for NCAA eligibility this season. After Walker’s appeal was denied, UNC head coach Mack Brown spoke out against the NCAA and the rules that are preventing Walker from suiting up this season. Alabama is playing USF this weekend in a rare Power Five vs. Group of Five matchup in Tampa Bay. The Crimson Tide aren’t strangers to games in Florida & the guys hope that fans can get more interesting matchups like this in the future. Ahead of the next wave of realignment, ESPN’s Paul Finebaum stated that Florida State is not on the SEC’s wishlist of schools to add to their conference. With an already strong presence in Florida, the SEC’s sights are set on new states to expand into. The podcast shares its most interesting games of the weekend, including the Pitt-WVU Backyard Brawl, Michigan State vs. Washington and LSU in a pressure-filled matchup with Mississippi State. The Race for the Case games for Week 3 include the #15 ranked Kansas State Wildcats at the Missouri Tigers, the #14 ranked LSU Tigers at the Mississippi State Bulldogs, the #11 ranked Tennessee Volunteers at the Florida Gators, the Pittsburgh Panthers @ the West Virginia Mountaineers, the BYU Cougars at the Arkansas Razorbacks, and Dan, Ross & Pat’s locks of the week. | Pac-2 is suing the deserters, transfer portal is improving parity & who could take over the Michigan State job? | 12 Sep 2023 | 01:05:28
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde react to Mel Tucker’s response to the Title IX investigation and predict possible successors in the event that Tucker is let go from the Spartans. Michigan State’s Mel Tucker responded to the news surrounding his Title IX investigation and had a different stance than Brenda Tracy, the woman who he is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with. The guys still believe there is little to no chance that Tucker returns to Michigan State, so they go through possible candidates looking to make a splash in the Big Ten. With all the negativity from coaches and athletic directors in regards to NIL and the transfer portal, Dan decides to do some research and see if it’s impacting parity within college football. Dan explains that the top recruits in the nation are increasingly going to a wider variety of programs and the guys figure the phenomenon stems from universities’ desires for star players and athletes’ desires for earlier playing time. Week 3 of college football has an odd slate of games, and weeks like this will only increase due to scheduling stubbornness and trying to beat the bottom line. The guys share frustration that the Louisville and Indiana series will only take place this year due to Indiana backing out to play an additional home game vs Indiana State. The Pac-2 (Oregon State and Washington State) is suing the rest of the former Pac-12 to try and prevent them from a majority vote on the final details regarding their departure. There is another hearing expected in October to determine whether or not the schools that are leaving the conference will be able to have a say in the final matters. Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh had a big day off on Saturday. The crew revels in his lawn care routine along with a Harbaugh-esque speech he gave to a youth football team. Lastly, the People’s Court returns as Burger King is being sued over a disparity in size between their actual Whopper sandwich and the advertisements shown in restaurants. 1:00 Who should replace Mel Tucker? 21:24 The transfer portal is helping create parity 40:50 Week 3’s odd slate of games 50:17 Jim Harbaugh’s day off 52:50 The Pac-2 files a lawsuit against the quitters 59:50 The People’s Court Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts There are risks involved with investing in ETFs, including possible loss of money. | Week 2 overreaction: Mel Tucker in hot water, Texas upsets Alabama & Colorado is 2-0 | 11 Sep 2023 | 00:59:16
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde run through all of the biggest college football games from Week 2 along with the latest from the Mel Tucker scandal at Michigan State. Michigan State head coach Mel Tucker has ended up in a Title IX investigation after information surfaced about a possible inappropriate relationship with a colleague at Michigan State. The guys examine the details of the possible misconduct & provide their analysis of where Michigan State and Mel Tucker should go from here. The Texas Longhorns made a trip to Tuscaloosa to play the Alabama Crimson Tide and walked out with a convincing win. Steve Sarkisian & company were effective in all phases of the game and shocked the college football world with a 34-24 victory. Coach Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes kept the train rolling after beating Nebraska on Saturday to advance to 2-0. While Nebraska played disciplined defense, the Cornhuskers couldn’t keep up with Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter and the rest of this new-look Buffaloes team under Coach prime. Mario Cristobal had the Miami Hurricanes ready for action on Saturday as they trounced Texas A&M, thanks to a five touchdown performance from QB Tyler Van Dyke. Could this Miami squad be competing for an ACC title this season? The guys weigh the possibility. Notre Dame continues to look sharp after blowing out NC State 45-24. Even after a long weather delay, the Fighting Irish were able to stay hot and make the case that they’re a legitimate championship contender. Iowa and Brian Ferentz were able to beat Iowa State this week, but the Hawkeyes have still yet to eclipse 25 points per game so far this season. The guys question if Ferentz will be able to get the program over the coveted 25 points per game threshold to unlock his contract. Closing out the show, the crew shares their Innovative Play of the Week, Small Sample Heisman & play a round of Say Something Nice. 1:00 Mel Tucker could be out at Michigan State 15:56 Texas upsets Alabama 27:38 Colorado crushes Nebraska 35:00 The Miami Hurricanes ripped through Texas A&M 41:03 Notre Dame guts out a big win vs NC State 43:14 Brian Ferentz points tracker 45:00 The Innovative Play of the Week 47:15 Small Sample Heisman 51:00 Say Something Nice Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts There are risks involved with investing in ETFs, including possible loss of money. | Race for the Case Week 2: Nebraska heads to Colorado, Alabama hosts Texas & will Caleb Williams stay at USC an extra year? | 07 Sep 2023 | 00:52:19
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde give their picks against the spread for the biggest college football games in Week 2. To start the podcast, the guys discuss the upcoming matchup between Nebraska and Colorado. How many snaps Travis Hunter can realistically play? How can Nebraska leave Boulder with a win over the surprisingly 1-0 Buffaloes? In a recent GQ feature about his son, Carl Williams, father of USC quarterback Caleb Williams, stated that his son may not want to play for a dysfunctional team in the NFL. Carl Williams also believes that the draft system in the NFL is completely backwards and notes the possibility of Caleb returning to USC in hopes of landing on a more desirable NFL team in 2025. The guys later turn their sights towards coaching salaries. A new study shows rising pay for coaching staffs is soon to push past a tipping point, wherein salaries for the coaches alone will soon exceed how much universities are spending for their athletic programs in total. Dan, Ross & Pat wonder how coaches can keep on complaining about this sport while their bank accounts trend in a skyward direction Moving onto the intersection of conference realignment and cold hard cash, SMU’s boosters have bought them into the ACC with remarkable confidence. In a meeting with Jim Phillips, the Texas tycoons showed that they have the means to join the conference without receiving any TV money for the next 9 years. To close out the show, the crew shares their picks in Race for the Case. This week features matchups between the #10 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the NC State Wolfpack, the Nebraska Cornhuskers visiting the #22 ranked Colorado Buffaloes, the #20 ranked Ole Miss Rebels at the #22 ranked Tulane Green Wave, the #23 ranked Texas A&M Aggies at the Miami Hurricanes, the #11 ranked Texas Longhorns at the #3 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide and as always, the guys close out with their locks of the week. 1:00 Can Travis Hunter sustain his high snap amount? 9:40 Caleb Williams may stay at USC if the team with the #1 draft pick is dysfunctional 17:30 A new study shows the payment for football coaches at colleges will exceed all athletic scholarships at a school 27:58 SMU is giving up ACC revenue & will be booster funded for 9 years 35:50 #10 Notre Dame @ NC State 37:27 Nebraska @ #22 Colorado 38:35 #20 Ole Miss @ #22 Tulane 40:15 #23 Texas A&M @ Miami 42:02 #11 Texas @ #3 Alabama 43:43 Locks of the week 47:45 The Daily Mail has stayed on the nightmare flight trail Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts There are risks involved with investing in ETFs, including possible loss of money. | Chip Kelly upset about new clock rules, Alabama vs. Texas preview & a terrible flight to Barcelona | 06 Sep 2023 | 01:03:03
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde highlight the biggest matchups in Week 2 of college football including Alabama vs. Texas, Texas A&M vs. Miami, & Colorado vs. Nebraska. To kick off the podcast, former colleagues go to battle this Saturday in Tuscaloosa as Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide host Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns. Can Texas pull off the upset? Will Alabama relegate Texas’ marching band to the nosebleed section? We will find out for sure on Saturday. In other big Saturday matchups, Texas A&M squares off against Miami in a true ladder game, while recently-ranked Colorado hosts Nebraska this weekend. The guys question why Colorado is ranked so low and what more they need to do in order to climb up the national polls. In the final game of Week 1, the Duke Blue Devils upset the #9 ranked Clemson Tigers, shocking the college football world. The show debates who is at fault for Clemson’s stumble while crediting Duke for being much improved over the last two seasons. LSU Tigers head coach Brian Kelly has recently denied that he claimed LSU would beat FSU, although audio from his radio show proves otherwise, leading to a very confusing denial. Later in the show, Dan bestows a new theme song onto the remaining members of the Pac-2 in the hopes they can find a new home. Also, Purdue made waves by losing to Fresno State last weekend, but they may have bounced back after being able to create the world’s smallest drum. Lastly, a flight from Atlanta to Barcelona had to be turned around after an unfortunate mid-flight accident. 1:00 Alabama vs Texas preview 14:53 Texas A&M vs Miami 19:25 Colorado is hosting Nebraska this weekend 27:13 #9 Clemson gets upset by Duke 33:27 Brian Kelly is denying that he said LSU would beat FSU 38:16 The new Pac-2 theme song 41:08 Some coaches are upset with the new clock rules in college football 46:00 The scripture update 48:11 Purdue is acting up again 49:47 The nightmare flight from Atlanta to Barcelona Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts There are risks involved with investing in ETFs, including possible loss of money. | Week 1 overreaction: LSU falls to FSU, Pac-12 goes undefeated & Colorado steals the show | 04 Sep 2023 | 01:07:04
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde lead off a special Labor Day edition of the College Football Enquirer with thoughts on all the biggest games and stories to come out of Week 1. On Sunday night, the Florida State Seminoles faced off against the LSU Tigers in Orlando. The most anticipated matchup of Week 1 turned out to be a classic drubbing by the end of the game, as Florida State handled business, leaving Brian Kelly and company wondering what they need to do to bounce back from this early season loss. Big things are happening in Boulder as Coach Deion Sanders led the Buffaloes into battle against TCU to get their first win of the season. Travis Hunter & Shedeur Sanders proved that this Colorado team is here to compete after their dynamic performances in this major Week 1 upset. The SEC had a tough Week 1 as the conference ended up 1-3 vs Power Five opponents. Tennessee took the sole victory over Virginia, but Florida, South Carolina & LSU dropped their first games. The guys discuss how strong this conference will be this season top to bottom. Further north, the Big Ten looked sharp this weekend as Penn State, Ohio State & Michigan all picked up wins to open their seasons. The guys were impressed by Penn State’s Drew Allar, had some concerns for Ohio State’s Kyle McCord and mixed reviews for Michigan’s tribute to Jim Harbaugh. To close out the podcast, the crew wraps up with a trio of segments: Innovative Plays of the Week, Small Sample Heisman & Say Something Nice. 1:00 Florida State beats LSU 16:15 Colorado & Coach Prime take down TCU 29:30 The SEC went 1-3 vs P-5 opponents this weekend 38:08 Latest from the Big Ten 44:31 College football roundabout 48:37 An update on Howdy Doody the bull 52:05 The Innovative play of the week 55:00 Small Sample Heisman 1:01:30 Say Something Nice Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts There are risks involved with investing in ETFs, including possible loss of money. | Race for the Case Week 1: Battle for Carolina, Florida State vs LSU & Nebraska’s wild week | 31 Aug 2023 | 01:05:04
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde make their picks against the spread for the biggest games of Week 1 of the college football season. To kick off the pod, Ross gives us an update on the latest from the yearly College Football Playoff meetings in Dallas. The guys dive into how the structure of the expanded playoff must include automatic bids in order to preserve the importance of the regular season, along with how the ACC/Big Ten/Pac-12 “Alliance” got to this point. Nebraska has had a huge week in the news – some good, some bad. First, the school set an attendance record for a women’s volleyball game at home against Omaha. Then, Nebraska football player Arik Gilbert was arrested after allegedly robbing a liquor store. But for Dan, Ross & Pat, the coup de grâce for Nebraska came after a man was pulled over driving with a full-sized bull riding shotgun. South Alabama and Tulane face off this week in the “Battle for Mardi Gras,” and the guys dive into which team should have the title of the true Mardi Gras originators. Wrapping up the show, the “Race for the Case” is back. The guys make their picks, leading off with the Florida Gators visiting the #14 ranked Utah Utes. Next, the Colorado Buffaloes face off at the #17 ranked TCU Horned Frogs in Coach Prime’s Power Five debut. The Battle of the Carolinas takes place this weekend between the #21 ranked UNC Tarheels and South Carolina Gamecocks in Charlotte, NC. The headlining game of the weekend is between the #5 ranked LSU Tigers and the #8 ranked Florida State Seminoles. Lastly, the show closes out with each host giving their locks of the week. 1:00 - Latest from the CFP meetings 19:00 Nebraska volleyball sets the attendance record for a women's game 30:50 Nebraska’s Arik Gilbert arrested after break in 34:45 A Nebraska man was pulled over for letting his Watusi bull ride shotgun 40:45 Where is the home of Mardi Gras? 46:45 Florida @ #14 Utah 50:40 Colorado @ #17 TCU 53:45 #21 UNC @ South Carolina 57:51 #5 LSU @ #8 FSU 1:01:02 Lock of the week Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
| Coach Prime’s Power Five debut, cliques of the ACC & will Brian Ferentz average 25 points per game? | 30 Aug 2023 | 01:00:40 | |
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde get you ready for Week 1 of the college football season by breaking down the biggest stories ahead of kickoff. Alabama head coach Nick Saban has yet to release the team’s official Week 1 depth chart, frustrating fans and pundits across the nation. The savvy coach may be withholding as much information as possible as to not give the Texas Longhorns a head start on game planning for the Crimson Tide. Deion Sanders makes his first Power FIve coaching debut this weekend as Colorado faces TCU in their opener. Coach Prime is no stranger to the bright lights and is bringing his luggage and confidence with him to Fort Worth for what will undoubtedly be a much scrutinized premiere against the Horned Frogs. The guys do their due diligence and provide their official playoff picks before the season gets underway. This final year of the four-team playoff is expected to be a doozy with high levels of competition in the Big Ten, SEC & Pac-12. Houston coach Dana Holgorson didn’t mince words when discussing the departure of Texas and Texas A&M from the Big 12. Holgorson believes those two schools kept the Cougars out of the conference for decades. The ACC still hasn’t made a decision on the addition of Stanford and Cal, but they did pair up with movie theaters in an agreement to show games on the big screen. In Iowa news, Brian Ferentz’s updated contract begins this week. Ferentz and the Iowa Hawkeyes need to average 25 points per game and 7 wins for Ferentz to achieve the full financial benefits of his contract. Can the Hawkeyes do it? Lastly, in news of the weird, the US may be following an egregious health initiative established by Canada. 1:00 Nick Saban won’t release a depth chart 10:42 Coach Prime’s P-5 debut 18:58 The pod’s official playoff picks 25:18 Dana Holgorsen had words for Texas & Texas A&M 27:41 ACC realignment check in 34:40 The ACC will show football games in movie theaters. 38:32 Brian Ferentz’s new contract begins this week 45:31 The truth about the Iowa butter cow 47:58 Off the radar games you’re excited about 52:47 The US may begin to follow Canada’s drink guidelines Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
| Sam Hartman impresses at Notre Dame, Arizona State’s self-imposed bowl ban & does USC already have issues on defense? | 28 Aug 2023 | 01:04:38 | |
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde provide their takeaways and thoughts from Week 0 of the college football season. Notre Dame got off to a hot start with a drubbing of Navy behind new signal caller Sam Hartman. The Wake Forest transfer lived up to the hype and the Fighting Irish finally have a quarterback that they can depend on again. USC faced off against San Jose State this weekend for their first game of the season. The Trojans won by a solid margin, but their defense quickly drew irritation from fans. The podcast speculates how this USC team will fare against teams that are strong in the trenches or play a particularly physical style of football. It looks as if the ACC could add Stanford and Cal soon after ACC commissioner Jim Phillips and his team constructed new financial plans in the event that the conference expands. If this takes place, the Pac-4 will turn into the Pac-2 with Oregon State and Washington State remaining unclaimed by the other power conferences. The guys discuss if it’s likely they’ll join the Mountain West or the American Athletic Conference. Arizona State has self-imposed a bowl ban for the 2023 season, leaving many shocked. After recruiting infractions under head coach Herm Edwards, it looked like the hammer was about to drop. The regime at Arizona State decided that for the first year under Kenny Dillingham, they will punish themselves before the NCAA has a chance to levy a harsher punishment. The LSU Tigers have a huge Week 1 matchup against the Florida State Seminoles, so the show dives into what we can expect from Brian Kelly’s team in year two. Miami of Ohio and the University of Miami face off in Week 1, which prompts a debate as to which Miami school should be the true Miami in college football. Wrapping up the show, Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark attended a Texas Tech booster club dinner and let the nation know that he wants to see Texas Tech beat Texas this year as a proper send-off to the Longhorns from the Big 12. 1:00 Sam Hartman impressed in his first game at Notre Dame 8:55 Does USC have an issue on defense already? 15:49 The Pac-4 remnants 24:34 What do Washington State & Oregon State do? 30:43 Arizona State self imposes a 1-year bowl ban 40:13 LSU opens their season against Florida State 48:19 The battle of Miami 51:41 Brett Yormark had some favorable comments about Texas Tech 58:21 A monkey settles the chicken wars once and for all Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
| Coaching hot seats, Reggie Bush to sue NCAA & Race for the Case: Week 0 | 23 Aug 2023 | 01:08:40 | |
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde determine which coaches are on the hot seat heading into the upcoming football season. With Week 0 upon us, the podcast kicks off discussing which coaches could be on their way out if this season doesn’t meet expectations at their respective programs. Additionally, the show explores who the most interesting figures are within the sport in 2023. Selections range from Deion Sanders to Caleb Williams and many disingenuous play-callers in between. Former USC Trojan star running back Reggie Bush is planning on filing a defamation lawsuit against the NCAA in hopes to regain his Heisman trophy status. After deliberation with the Heisman trust, Bush is taking a new angle to try and retrieve the coveted award that was stripped from him after receiving compensation to play at USC. The guys work through the issue and try to find out whether or not Reggie Bush could get the trophy back after this effort. Freshman quarterback Jaden Rashada has won the starting job at Arizona State. After a tumultuous offseason filled with commitments and faulty collectives at Florida, the young signal-caller has proven his skills at camp and will be leading the Sun Devils offense. The podcast decides to break-in a new band today after the collapse of the Pac-12. A new song details the love of the remaining conference-less teams in the soon to be former Pac-12. Lastly, we have college football games this weekend so the Race for the Case starts anew. The guys pick against the spread for the Navy Midshipmen @ the #13 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the UMass Minutemen @ the New Mexico State Aggies, the Ohio University Bobcats @ the San Diego State Aztecs & the San Jose State Spartans @ the #6 ranked USC Trojans. 1:00 Who has the hottest seat in college football? 14:37 Who is the single most intriguing person in college football this year? 23:56 Reggie Bush is suing the NCAA for defamation 36:00 Jaden Rashada lands the Arizona State starting job 44:41 The Big 4 song 51:30 Iowa has betrayed the trust of the nation 55:41 Race for the case: Week 0 56:00 Navy @ #13 Notre Dame 53:03 UMass @ New Mexico State 1:00:28 Ohio @ San Diego State 1:02:00 San Jose State @ #6 USC Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
| Jim Harbaugh suspended by Michigan, expectations for Notre Dame & Missouri’s big swing on high school NIL money | 22 Aug 2023 | 01:05:03 | |
Dan Wetzel & SI’s Pat Forde make sense of the University of Michigan’s decision to levy a 3-game suspension on head coach Jim Harbaugh after the NCAA abstained from doing so just last week. The self-imposed suspension on Jim Harbaugh will only limit him to the first three games of the 2023 season. Jim Harbaugh will be back on field for Rutgers in Week 4 as Michigan decided to handle the allegations against their head coach in-house. The guys discuss how relevant recruiting violations will be in the future as they don’t seem to impact key programs and coaches that immensely. Notre Dame has the most exciting matchup for Week 0 in college football, so Dan & Pat discuss the state of the Fighting Irish program and how Marcus Freeman will do in year two. The coach is winning his players over but Notre Dame fans are hoping he can win more games on the field than in 2022, and the guys suggest that Brian Kelly was taken for granted at Notre Dame because of his prickly attitude. Big schools are starting to name their starters at quarterback this week. Georgia has stated that Carson Beck will be leading the team in Week 1, while Ohio State and Alabama both have battles that have yet to be decided. Pat & Dan explain how Ryan Day and Nick Saban are taking very different approaches to the college football preseason. Missouri has made waves this past week with recruiting, both on the field and in the living room of every high school athlete. The University of Missouri was able to land 5-star Williams Nwaneri to play defensive end, wile the state of Missouri enacted a new law where high school athletes who commit to play at an in-state college will be eligible to receive NIL money before going to college. | Why Florida State could leave ACC in 2025, Johnny Manziel doc & not another CFP format change | 16 Aug 2023 | 01:03:32
Florida State has been noticeably outspoken this college football offseason about their happiness (or lack thereof) with the state of the ACC, the conference in which they play. After a summer of seismic shifts to the college football landscape, most notably with the Pac-12 seemingly disintegrating before our eyes, attention has shifted to FSU to see if they'd be the next major university to seek greener pastures, presumably in the Big Ten or SEC. Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI's Pat Forde kick off today's podcast on this very subject. With the August 15th deadline to announce an intention to leave for the 2024 season now in the rear view mirror, will FSU make an announcement before next August with their hearts set on a 2025 exit? Is the Big Ten or SEC the most logical suitor, or would FSU go independent for a few years to see how the dust settles before making a new commitment. In more conference realignment news, Ross provides an update on where the College Football Playoff might take their format now that the Pac-12 will likely no longer be considered a Power Five conference. Could the upcoming format shift to six conference winners plus 6 at-large bids be scrapped in favor of a 'five plus seven' arrangement, or will the CFP opt to just take the 12 highest ranked teams? Ross explains the internal politics of where both options stand right now. In the world of entertainment, the guys react to the latest Netflix documentary, Untold: Johnny Football, about former Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel & chat about the new drama regarding former Ole Miss tackle Michael Oher, whose story was famously adapted into the Sandra Bullock film, The Blindside. Closing out the podcast, the crew chats about Peyton Manning's latest gig, school-branded alcohol, Eggo-flavored liqueur & an update from the Goodyear Blimp. 0:30 - FSU looking to leave ACC in 2025? 14:55 - Another CFP format change? 30:35 - Johnny Manziel documentary 44:50 - Michael Oher "Blindside" drama 53:15 - Professor Peyton Manning 55:30 - Alcohol & blimp news Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
| Lies, acronyms & cheeseburgers: why Jim Harbaugh will likely coach for all of 2023 | 14 Aug 2023 | 01:03:32 | |
Over the weekend, news broke that Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh would likely not be suspended for the first four games of the 2023 college football season, after initially agreeing to the punishment a few weeks prior. Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI's Pat Forde dive into the NCAA's internal politics that resulted in this news and the organization's stunning "not a cheeseburger" comments that sent this story from semi-reasonable to absurd. What's clear in all of this is that it will take so long to adjudicate, that Harbaugh may once again return to the NFL in early 2024, right when a full penalty would be issued, letting him coach this season in its entirety and get away scot-free. In other news, the ACC's attempt to acquire Stanford, Cal-Berkley & SMU has reportedly hit a major snag. ACC stalwarts Florida State, Clemson, NC State & North Carolina are allegedly not in favor of the three new entrants and any deal seems unlikely. The guys talk about what it means for the ACC, the four dissenting schools & the suddenly very lonely Stanford. In less than two weeks, we have actual college football action. The crew conducts a draft to pick their favorite six games in the opening week of the season. Closing out the show, a brief entry into the People's Court where the important question is asked: is the Goodyear Blimp spying on SEC schools on behalf of Ohio State? 0:00 - Jim Harbaugh's 4-game suspension likely on hold 33:05 - ACC's attempt to bring in SMU, Cal, Stanford likely DOA 47:25 - Week 0/Week 1 Games draft 57:45 - People's Court: Spy Blimps Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
| ACC targeting SMU, Stanford & Cal, first coaches poll & the Montgomery riverfront brawl | 09 Aug 2023 | 01:06:05 | |
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI's Pat Forde return with more fallout from the apparent collapse of the Pac-12. The ACC is smelling blood in the water and is reportedly targeting Pac-12 leftovers Cal & Stanford to join their conference, along with SMU of the American Athletic Conference. The guys discuss whether or not it makes sense for any party, especially the west-coast Cal & Stanford students who would suddenly find themselves consistently playing in four time-zones east of their home campuses. Meanwhile, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey recently made an appearance on the Paul Finebaum show to gloat that his conference "[doesn't] need to be in 4 time zones to generate interest." The podcast crew low-key loves the snark and doesn't blame the SEC for scooping up Texas and Oklahoma. Later in the show, the guys chat about the Montgomery riverfront brawl, react to Georgia, Alabama & Ohio State leading the first coaches poll of the offseason, the Johnny Manziel documentary on Netflix, an Italian man meeting a cheesy demise & emotional support emus. 1:00 The ACC is considering adding Stanford, Cal & SMU 17:30 SEC commissioner Greg Sankey spoke on Paul Finebaum’s show 23:38 The NCAA is back in the eligibility denial business 36:42 The Montgomery riverfront brawl 42:24 Reacting to the first college football coaches poll 55:08 The new Johnny Manziel documentary is released 56:43 West Virginia has joined the beer NIL derby 60:17 An Italian man fell victim to falling cheese 1:01:54 A Virginia Beach man went to court to see if he can keep his emotional support emu Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
| How many ACC teams can make the College Football Playoff in 2024? | 22 Jul 2024 | 01:06:09 | |
On today's episode, Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger and SI's Pat Forde discuss the biggest headlines heading into ACC Media Days this week. Specifically, they focus on the latest for Florida State and Clemson's plans to exit the conference. Wetzel poses the question of what it would take for Florida State and Clemson to stick with the ACC, and how the conference can best position themselves for long-term success in 2024. Forde and Wetzel also pitch other programs that could have big seasons, including Miami. Following their ACC talk, they cover a busy recruiting weekend for LSU and Brian Kelly. As the Tigers pulled two five stars, and one from Notre Dame, Wetzel and Forde talk about the implications this has on Notre Dame and LSU's budding rivalry. To wrap the show, they react to a story of a folklore-ish bear in Banff that has survived a train accident and fathered most of the bear population in the area. Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde try to pick up the pieces from last week’s realignment fallout after news that Washington, Oregon would be heading to the Big Ten, while Arizona, Arizona State & Utah would take their athletic programs to the Big 12. The 500th episode of the podcast opens with a discussion on the unserious nature of these Pac-12 realignment meetings, as a chairperson from Oregon joined a call on Zoom during his golf match. This leads the hosts to believe that the meetings were all planned on very short notice & that the conference members were all flying by the seat of their pants during these major decisions. The guys then dive into what happens next for the remaining four teams left in the Pac-12: Oregon State, Washington State, Cal & Stanford. Many Pac-12 fans can’t believe the other members left Stanford and Cal out to dry, while some believe that more schools should adopt playing in different conferences for different sports to make the transition easier. Dan pours water on the idea that the conference a team plays in impacts their academic standing, while Ross notes Mizzou head football coach Eli Drinkwitz’s comments about the well-being of student athletes being overlooked during the realignment process. Pac-12 softball players have been voicing their opinions and concerns on social media surrounding the realignment. The players state that they didn’t sign up to play games at Rutgers away from their families. The podcast crew notes that Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff may not be able to attend conference championships this year for the Pac-12 due to being so disliked at this moment. Rounding out the show, in recruiting news, Florida State lands a big time safety & Boise State is able to keep a wideout in Idaho over Michigan. In news of the weird, an ice cream shop in Santa Cruz is celebrating Otter 841 & fall funerals may be on the hot seat. 0:00 Introduction 5:00 A University of Oregon trustee chair joined their realignment meeting from the golf course 18:37 The latest on the Pac-4 34:05 Pac-12 softball players voiced their displeasure with their conference changing 41:22 What happens with the CFP? 46:06 The sun sets on the Pac-12 in the Rose Bowl 53:00 Florida State lands the #1 safety in the country 59:00 Gatlin Bair commits to Boise State over Michigan 1:00:45 Are fall funerals just as bad as fall weddings? 1:04:18 The otter uprising of 2023 Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
| The Pac-12 has crumbled | 05 Aug 2023 | 00:53:52 | |
Dan Wetzel & SI’s Pat Forde react to the news that the Big Ten will be adding the University of Oregon and University of Washington. The hammer finally dropped on the Pac-12 as their two remaining headliners, Oregon and Washington have been approved to join the Big Ten. The guys break down the timeline that led to the formal realignment decision. After a rollercoaster of options and ideas, the final push to keep the Pac-12 together ultimately failed, and Dan & Pat are bewildered by how quickly the decision to add Oregon and Washington actually came to fruition. Later, the guys share their winners and losers following the big decision. Oregon is the first school under the magnifying glass, as they have a harder route to the playoff now, but their strong brand could keep them relevant in the new 18-team conference. Not much changes for the Big Ten operationally, but the newcomers are hoping to avoid being the next Nebraska. The Big 12 looks to be a big winner during this summer’s realignment. The conference, that was written off 2 years ago, now has a pending addition in the University of Arizona and is expected to make an attempt to acquire Arizona State and Utah as well. The show also analyzes where Oregon State, Washington State, Cal, & Stanford go from here. These odd schools out have a few options, such as joining the Mountain West Conference, going independent, or even moving down to Division 1-AA. Lastly, the guys remark that the SEC has seemed very quiet during this week’s monumental shakeup and the conference is perhaps aiming to keep it that way until other big schools are ready to join. 1:00 Oregon and Washington are headed to the Big Ten 20:33 Realignment winners and losers 29:16 Will the Big 12 end up getting Arizona, Arizona State & Utah? 35:45 What do Washington State and Oregon State do from here? 41:00 What does Stanford do? 45:10 Cal may be in a worse position than Stanford 48:00 The SEC seems very content 50:45 A river otter attacked tubers in Montana Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
| The Pac-12 is crumbling, part 2: Big Ten is in expansion meetings & Florida State is unhinged | 03 Aug 2023 | 00:46:30 | |
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde regather to react to the news that the Big Ten is meeting to discuss a plan for realignment with their eyes on Pac-12 teams. The podcast opens up by discussing which teams in the Pac-12 are in the forefront of the Big Ten’s eyes ahead of their latest pitch to expand. Four presidents have met today and the guys expect the top two targets to be the University of Oregon and the University of Washington, that is if the Big Ten only wants to add two teams in this volley. If the conference wishes to expand to 20 teams Stanford and California-Berkley are expected to be the next two schools to be rounded up. In true NCAA administrative fashion, the Big Ten doesn’t want to be seen as the conference that killed the Pac-12. Only in this line of work could you find such irony after adding USC and UCLA, which ended up tanking the Pac-12’s media rights deal this offseason. The guys speculate as to what will happen with the rest of the Pac-12 if Oregon and Washington leave, and the other options appear to be the Big 12 and Mountain West. The ACC couldn’t let the Big Ten have all the shine today, as member school Florida State expressed their displeasure that they will be receiving the same amount of money as other ACC schools this year. The guys aren’t impressed by Florida State’s antics and peacocking. Pat believes that ACC commissioner Jim Phillips should feel very disrespected by a program that has reached only tepid levels of relevancy over the last five seasons. Lastly, former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel is opening his own bar in College Station, Texas, so the show determines whether or not it’s worth checking out. 1:00 The Big Ten is meeting to discuss further expansion after the Pac-12 fallout 19:23 If you’re the Big Ten would you go to 18 teams or 20? 27:33 How should Oregon State and Washington State fans feel now? 35:27 Florida State is very unhappy with the ACC 44:03 Johnny Manziel is opening a bar Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
| The Pac-12 is crumbling, part 1: The Apple TV+ media deal & which teams are bound to leave? | 02 Aug 2023 | 01:04:55 | |
In part 1 of a two-part episode, Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde examine the Pac-12 landscape after more information about their media rights deal was released. The Pac-12 is expected to sign their upcoming TV deal with Apple TV+. After the Pac-12 network debacle, many see this deal as inferior to the deal that the Big 12 recently worked out. This news, coupled with Colorado’s departure from the Pac-12 has the guys seriously debating the likelihood of more Pac-12 teams leaving. Dan starts a new game called ‘Would You Go?’ where the hosts have to put themselves in the shoes of Pac-12 schools and reveal if they would leave the conference. The most obvious first choice would be the two Arizona schools, although separating the two could be an issue. The guys think that it would be beneficial for Pac-12 members to stay, so that the path to the playoff is easier. Moving away from the west coast, more betting scandals have come out as student athletes from Iowa and Iowa State have been reported as gambling on college sports as well as their own schools. The guys despair in realizing that the state of Iowa may not be as simple and quiet as they claim to be. Lastly, in animal news, there haven’t been any sightings of Otter 841 & visitors at a Chinese zoo believe the bears may not be real. 1:00 The Pac-12 is falling apart after new media deal information 47:32 Iowa is the new Las Vegas 56:41 Otter 841 update 57:31 A Chinese Zoo denies that their sun bears are humans wearing costumes Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
| Next moves for Pac-12, does Minnesota have a toxic culture & Hugh Freeze’s big week in golf and recruiting | 31 Jul 2023 | 01:01:44 | |
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde break down the fallout from last week’s news of Colorado leaving the Pac-12 for the Big 12. Now that the dust has settled on Colorado’s exodus to the Big 12, the guys discuss which team could leave the Pac-12 next. The University of Arizona seems to be the most logical program to join a new conference, but the Pac-12 may not be willing to let another member go. Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark has shown his savvy this offseason by keeping his foot on the pedal to acquire talented programs so it doesn’t look like he will stop until the Big 12 has 14 teams. A new article came out from University of Minnesota players critiquing PJ Fleck and the culture of the football program. The show dissects the article and determines how much weight it does and should carry. PJ Fleck is an interesting character for sure, but there doesn’t seem to be much evidence of a toxic environment for student athletes. New Ohio State commit Aaron Scott, Jr. took a moment to troll Michigan fans during his recruitment video. Scott revealed an Ohio State jersey that was pulled out of a University of Michigan backpack, giving the Michigan faithful a quick glimmer of hope before taking it away. Hugh Freeze had a big week on the recruiting trail with a couple highly touted prospects committing to Auburn, including flipping a 5-star wideout from Alabama. Aside from football, Freeze won the first golf flight at the Auburn University Club. After some extensive investigative journalism, the podcast deduces that Hugh Freeze may in fact be a very good golfer. Lastly, an Ohio State player isn’t as focused on NIL money, but rather farming supplies. 1:00 - What is the Pac-12's next move? 23:56 Do the Minnesota Golden Gophers have a toxic program? 45:00 Aaron Scott Jr commits to Ohio State over Michigan 48:40 Auburn is recruiting exceptionally well in Alabama right now 57:39 Ohio State’s Cade Stover has a unique NIL request Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
| Colorado to Big 12, Jim Harbaugh’s expected suspension & moving the Ohio State/Michigan game | 27 Jul 2023 | 01:01:01 | |
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde react to the breaking development that the University of Colorado is expected to join the Big 12 in 2024. In a very busy week with many headlines, the Colorado Buffaloes stole the show. After leaving the Big 12 in 2010, it is basically a done deal that Colorado will return to the conference after their patience with the Pac-12 wore thin. The guys speculate which other schools could join Colorado in the move & if it is even a good move in the first place. Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh is looking at the very real possibility of being suspended for the first four games of the 2023 college football season. Not all hope is lost for Michigan fans as the games should be easy in his absence, but some are shocked that the NCAA actually levied a punishment. The suspension stems from recruiting infractions that took place during the COVID-19 pandemic, which Harbaugh tried to lie about, thereby making the punishment worse. Ryan Day spoke at Big Ten media days and caused quite a stir about the chance that the Ohio State/Michigan game could be moved. Due to the elimination of the Big Ten West & Big Ten East divisions, Michigan & Ohio State’s traditional end-of-season game could be moved up to prevent playing each other in back-to-back weeks. In Iowa news, Kirk Ferentz coined a new slogan for the Iowa football program by noting his admiration for punters. Additionally, two Iowa offensive linemen competed against each other in a hay bale throwing contest. Lastly, Dan has a new favorite coach of the week & the Columbus Zoo made a questionable mistake. 1:00 - Colorado is moving to the Big 12 10:48 Who else could be joining Colorado in the Big 12? 24:11 Jim Harbaugh is expected to receive a 4 game suspension this season 34:46 Ryan Day stated that the Ohio State - Michigan game may get moved 42:52 Kirk Ferentz unveiled his appreciation for punters 54:00 Dan’s favorite coach of the week 56:16 The Columbus Zoo was confused about a gorilla birth Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
| Big Ten media days preview, Pac-12 media day recap, Lane Kiffin is maturing & California’s outlaw otter | 24 Jul 2023 | 01:02:45 | |
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde give their thoughts on Lane Kiffin’s media day highlights along with previewing the upcoming Big Ten media days & looking back at the Pac-12's outing from last week. Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin had plenty of opportunities to surprise and shock, like he has done in the past, but at the 2023 SEC media days he took the high road when asked to rank the aggressiveness of SEC boosters. With the good comes the bad though, as Lane Kiffin called college athletics a disaster surrounding the transfer portal and NIL. Kiffin described it as free agency and that the biggest buyer gets the best prizes, while noting that Ole Miss has been successful in transfer portal recruiting. Looking ahead to Big Ten media days, Ryan Day is believed to be one of the most interesting figures in college football coming into this season. He has had plenty of success, but losing to Michigan two years in a row has earned some distrust from the Buckeye faithful. The rest of the Big Ten will be very exciting, featuring newcomers Matt Rhule and Luke Fickell joining Nebraska and Wisconsin, respectively. The show wonders how Michigan State head coach Mel Tucker will be received after a very down year for the Spartans. The Pac-12 media day was underwhelming with Deion Sanders not being in attendance due to a surgery. Ross recaps a few of George Kliavkoff’s sentiments and the show acknowledges that once the Pac-12 can end the media deal drama, reporters can finally focus on football again. The Mid-American Conference may be trying to restore some of its top rivalries to weekend billings after seeing lower attendance on weekdays. The weekday MACtion is a great college tradition, but the conference is looking to reinvigorate the fans with more Saturday games between noted rivals. Lastly, an otter in California is taking over Santa Cruz by intimidating and stealing boards from surfers. 1:00 Lane Kiffin believes college sports are a disaster 15:28 Big Ten media days are around the corner 35:53 Fallout from Pac-12 media days 45:03 The MAC held their media days 53:57 There is an outlaw otter in California Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
| College football all-name team, Nick Saban’s Italian holiday & can Georgia three-peat? | 20 Jul 2023 | 00:57:51 | |
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde discuss all the major headlines coming from the third session of SEC media days. To kick things off, Dan revels in the fact that Nick Saban begrudgingly took a vacation with his wife to Italy to commemorate their wedding anniversary. Nick Saban also provided a review of the country in a way that only the curmudgeonly Alabama coach could. On the football side for the Crimson Tide, the podcast contemplates how they will be able to keep up with Georgia given their unproven quarterback room. The rise and dominance of Georgia has also pushed the topic of a possible third championship in three years. Coaches and reporters across the country have noted that the 2020s have been Georgia’s decade and that pace doesn’t seem to be slowing down. In additional Georgia news, their adamant defense against an Atlanta Journal-Constitution article has forced article revisions and the firing of reporter Alan Judd. Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman continues to delight during media days, as he provided a memorable response when asked about a niche Minnesota beer. New Mississippi State head coach Zach Arnett has impressed at the podium with a strong air of comfortability with the media. The Bulldogs continue to have tough schedules but Arnett is confident in the direction of the program. Out west, the biggest news out of the Pac-12 is that there is no news. The television/media rights deal announcement has been delayed another month. Law firms in Chicago are getting busy with a preponderance of lawsuits popping up surrounding the Northwestern hazing scandal. Players, administrators & Pat Fitzgerald are lawyering up to make their points known. Lastly, the podcast reviews the 2023 college football all-name team & Jim Mora might have the answer to a very important question. 1:00 Nick Saban’s Italian holiday 8:30 Alabama letting the cake bake with the QB position 12:36 Can Georgia three-peat? 19:06 The AJC fired Alan Judd and issued corrections to their latest Georgia story 22:47 Sam Pittman continues to be a great part of SEC media days 26:51 The pod was impressed with Zach Arnett at the podium 31:45 The Pac-12 media deal was pushed back to August 37:52 Northwestern has announced two new reviews into the hazing allegations 42:20 This will be the petty year for the Big 12 vs Texas and Oklahoma 45:19 College football’s 2023 all-name team 50:21 Other notable events from SEC media days 53:30 A search warrant was issued in Nevada surrounding the Tupac Shakur murder Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
| Tennessee finally receives a ruling for infractions, the Big 12 vs Texas and Oklahoma & who is calling plays for Texas A&M? | 18 Jul 2023 | 01:03:01 | |
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde get together to recap a hectic weekend of college football media days. Kicking things off, the University of Tennessee has finally received a ruling for their many infractions under the reign of Jeremy Pruitt. The 200+ infractions warranted a fine and many no-show clauses for Pruitt and the Tennessee staffers. With help from Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti, the Volunteers were able to retain their bowl eligibility. SEC commissioner Greg Sankey spoke about the future of NIL and state involvement at SEC media days on Monday. Sankey is attempting to find a solution to reduce state involvement with NIL laws and regulations. The guys agree with Sankey’s sentiments and defend the NCAA against loopholes and government overreach into the sport. Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher had an interesting day at the podium. Fisher sidestepped a question when asked who would be calling the plays for the Aggies, himself or Bobby Petrino. Fisher withheld as to not give away the game plan for Saturdays. The Northwestern fallout continues as more athletes are suing the program after hazing reports came out that resulted in head coach Pat Fitzgerald’s dismissal. LSU’s Brian Kelly weighed in on the situation and didn’t hold back about how a team should be run to avoid situations like this. Big 12 deputy commissioner Tim Weiser spoke recently about the impending departure of Texas and Oklahoma. Dan, Pat & Ross react to Weiser’s statements about Texas not wanting to lose to Kansas State anymore & Oklahoma leaving just because Texas did. New Kansas Jayhawk Hunter Dickinson described Kansas residents as being much nicer than Michigan residents, which prompts the guys into a debate on whether or not ‘midwest nice’ is a real thing. Lastly, Dan and the newly minted Yahoo employee Ross confront Pat about a faux pas that occurred during the podcast taping. 1:00 Ross has made his employment decision 2:40 Tennessee gets a decision on their infractions case 14:30 Tennessee attorney general jumped in to defend the school 20:13 Greg Sankey speaks at SEC media days 34:20 Who will call the plays for Texas A&M? 37:50 Northwestern fallout continues 42:25 Tim Weiser from the Big 12 took some shots at Texas and Oklahoma 51:58 Hunter Dickinson praised the kindness of the people of Kansas 59:30 Pat was caught responding to a tweet mid-pod Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
| Pat Fitzgerald out at Northwestern, Georgia pushes back against press & new details on Alabama baseball betting scandal | 12 Jul 2023 | 01:12:00 | |
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde react to the news of Northwestern University firing longtime coach Pat Fitzgerald amid team hazing allegations. After a tumultuous week, the axe finally fell on Northwestern head football coach Pat Fitzgerald. A two-week suspension has now turned into a full dismissal after the bungling of the initial report surrounding football team hazing allegations. Many in the football world are shocked, but the guys stick with their sentiment that schools should release their full investigative reports upon completion to prevent a scenario like this from happening in the first place. Former West Virginia head basketball coach Bob Huggins is still adamant about not resigning from his position. The former coach and school have exchanged letters furthering the ‘Costanza’ narrative that Huggins is putting forward. The guys are getting tired of his act and are now seeing these actions as greedy and embarrassing. The University of Georgia has pushed back against an Atlanta Journal Constitution article that noted Georgia’s stance on sexual assault/harassment. Kirby Smart and other officials from the athletic department defended their school and policy, calling for a recall of the article. The crew believes that this tactic was used to deflect from the surge of speeding and reckless driving charges that Georgia football players are getting caught up in. New & baffling details have emerged from the college baseball betting scandal surrounding an Alabama/LSU game this past April. Security footage and a borderline spoken admission to a teller have revealed a new level of incompetence while trying to pull off a scam of this proportion. Lastly, one of America’s great newspaper writers is being celebrated this year. Mike Royko’s blind beer test is getting a 50th anniversary at The Billy Goat in Chicago to commemorate the writer & to see how far American beer has come. 1:00 Pat Fitzgerald fired by Northwestern 25:12 The pod has finalized their Nashville meetup plans 28:55 Bob Huggins stands by the idea that he didn’t resign 39:47 Georgia pushed back against AJC article 49:52 Rand Paul is upset with antitrust laws 52:02 Details on the Alabama - LSU baseball betting scandal 1:01:36 Mike Royko’s beer test comes back Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

On today's episode, Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger and SI's Pat Forde react to the biggest headlines coming from SEC Media Days in Dallas, Texas. They open the show with news of a revenue-sharing model for the SEC and how that will impact roster building in the future. They also discuss the implications for Title IX. After, they react to the comments made about Texas throughout the week. They agree with most at the event that are saying Texas won't step right in and immediately run the conference. They move on to multiple comments made by Georgia head coach Kirby Smart about Oregon mega-donor Phil Knight, and fining his players through the Georgia NIL collective. After the break, they quiet the latest realignment buzz by sharing comments made by SEC commissioner Greg Sankey directed at Florida State. | Hazing at Northwestern, Bob Huggins upset with West Virginia & Iowa likes to party | 10 Jul 2023 | 01:08:59
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde discuss the latest developments surrounding the Northwestern University hazing scandal. Recent reports have come to light where players involved with the Northwestern football program have been uncomfortable with team rituals. An internal investigation took place, but the full report was withheld leading to the campus paper to pick up the full story and report on it. The pod highlights how this mismanaged report could cost Pat Fitzgerald his job. The longtime Northwestern coach could very well be out the door after the story and hazing allegations have picked up steam over the weekend. Former West Virginia basketball coach Bob Huggins wants to remain with the team after stating his resignation announcement wasn’t real. Huggins, who left the Mountaineers after a DUI, has hired an attorney to plead his case that he never formally resigned. Huggins noted that the press releases and announcements about his departure were misleading. The pod isn’t impressed with these actions from Huggins and finds the whole situation very tacky. Highly touted recruit Elijah Rushing has committed to the University of Arizona. Head coach Jedd Fisch appears to be trying to take back recruiting in Arizona to compete with Arizona State and the rest of the Pac-12. Iowa fans were upset with Dan because the Hawkeyes have a beer where profits go to their NIL collective. | San Diego State stays in Mountain West, Trent Dilfer speaks out on poaching players & is Coach Prime at Colorado a lose-lose? | 05 Jul 2023 | 01:03:34
Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger and SI’s Pat Forde react to San Diego State deciding to return to the Mountain West conference for another year after flirting with the Pac-12. First, they kick off the pod with top defensive line recruit Justin Scott committing to Ohio State over Notre Dame and Michigan. As Fighting Irish fans grow frustrated with their squad always coming close, but never signing ‘the guy’, the hosts ponder how much juice Marcus Freeman has with recruiting at an elite level. Freeman has consistently recruited very well, but needs to take the next step to truly compete for the 5-star players. After a drama-filled offseason, San Diego State has decided to stay with the Mountain West for another year. Ross breaks down the soap opera while Dan & Pat determine why the Aztecs decided to stay instead of move up to a Power Five conference. In college athletics legal news, the California revenue-sharing bill has been pushed back a full year after being passed once. If passed twice, colleges would have to distribute money received from athletics back to the athletes. A recent report noted that an anonymous Pac-12 coach believes that the Deion Sanders Colorado hire will end up being a lose-lose situation. The coach believes that if Coach Prime wins enough games, he will leave the program quickly, and if he loses too many games, the dismissal will be a ‘circus’. The guys decide what would dictate a good season for the Colorado Buffaloes and what would prompt this statement from a fellow coach in the first place. New UAB head coach Trent Dilfer went on a radio program & talked about tampering with his student athletes. Dilfer notably dared other coaches to try and poach his players so he could expose them. Lastly in news of the weird, this Friday is National Dive Bar Day, a woman survived three days in a swamp & we may see more chicken sandwich innovation soon. 1:00 Introduction 4:02 Justin Scott chooses Ohio State over Notre Dame 22:57 San Diego State stays with the Mountain West 34:01 The California revenue sharing bill has been delayed a year 36:50 An anonymous Pac-12 coach thinks Coach Prime at Colorado is a lose-lose 44:08 Trent Dilfer dares other coaches to try and poach his players 48:45 National dive bar day is approaching 55:20 Restaurant Brands International is looking to strengthen their position in the chicken wars 58:13 A woman was found by a rescue team after being stuck in mud Follow Dan @DanWetzel Follow Pat @ByPatForde Follow Ross @RossDellenger Check out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
