| Intuition, Tarot, and Ritual Tradition with Deborah Lipp | 09 Sep 2026 | 01:00:07 | |
In this episode of Coffee and Divination, I’m joined by Deborah Lipp — author, Witch, High Priestess, tarot reader, and teacher who has been practicing and teaching Wicca, magic, and occult subjects for more than forty years. Deborah is the author of numerous books on Witchcraft, ritual, magical practice, tarot, and polarity, including The Elements of Ritual, Tarot Interactions, Bending the Binary, and her newest book, Roadmap by Moonlight: A Guide to Wicca for Life. We begin by talking about what it means to build a magical and spiritual practice that can actually last for decades — not simply a collection of techniques, correspondences, or rituals. We also talk about experimentation, adapting to new situations and needs, and how we create vibrant new things, without losing the structure that makes it all work. And of course, we spend quite a bit of time on divination: Learning to see a spread as a complete image; psychic perception and the ways it can become suppressed; intuition versus projection; prediction; and the importance of becoming willing to take risks. We also talk about magical polarity beyond simplistic male/female binaries, the ideas behind Deborah’s book Bending the Binary, and what happens when inherited magical structures are examined more deeply instead of simply discarded or repeated. It was a lovely conversation to have, and I appreciate all the care that Deborah puts into all of her books and teachings. -- Find Deborah Lipp online: Deborah’s website: Deborah’s books: Deborah’s Bookshop.org store: -- Upcoming Events with JoAnna: Thursday, September 10, 2026 at 7 p.m.: Nov - December 2026: Registration is now open for The Diviner’s Pathway - a live, small-group divination container beginning Nov. 10. | Plant Spirits, Divination, and Everyday Witchcraft with Leandra Witchwood | 31 Aug 2026 | 00:55:31
In this episode of Coffee and Divination, I'm joined by Leandra Witchwood — modern witch, wortcunner, herbalist, author, teacher, and founder of The Magick Kitchen podcast. Leandra's work brings together witchcraft, herbalism, plant-spirit relationships, shadow work, divination, and decades of magical practice. She is a Master Herbalist and Reiki Master, and through The Witchwood Teahouse, she creates intentional hand-blended teas rooted in her work with plants and herbalism. We begin with Leandra's earliest experiences with divination, as well as her path into herbalism and the practice of wortcunning. We also dive into dendromancy -- divination and communication with trees -- as well as ways of listening to the spirits of land and place. If you're listening as this episode comes out, Leandra has several classes and offerings happening very soon — and Leandra and I will both be teaching at TempleFest in Massachusetts, September 4–7. If you're finding this episode later on, visit her website to see what she's currently teaching and offering. A quick note on herbalism: This episode includes general discussion of herbs and herbal practices for educational and spiritual purposes only. | Magic for Uncertain Times: Risk, Sovereignty, and Divination with Ivy Bromius | 03 Jul 2026 | 01:06:40
In this episode, I welcome my friend and returning guest Ivy Bromius of Circle Thrice back to the show. Ivy and I have known each other for a number of years, and her work brings together a wonderfully unusual - and extremely useful -combination of professional project management, practical enchantment, and magical timing through tarot and other divinatory arts. We begin with risk: how can divination help us look toward the future without becoming trapped by fear? Ivy explains why thoughtfully considering what could go wrong is not the same as magically causing it to happen—and why facing a possible risk can actually make us feel more empowered, and capable of changing our course. We discuss the emotional reality of fear, and explore courage and sovereignty: the ability to act according to our values, and work toward something better for ourselves, our families, and our communities. | Episode 35: Solo Show on Developing Divination Relationships, and An Exciting Announcement | 23 Mar 2023 | 00:20:27
The very first "solo show" of Coffee and Divination! I wanted to speak a little about a topic that's come up with a number with my guests recently: how we relate to our divinatory tools, and also how we might deepen our connections to them. As a Witch who practices a nature-based, pantheist, and animist Tradition, the act of relating to forms of divination, and the Spirits who speak through them, is something I think a great deal about both as a teacher and a practitioner. In today's episode, I share five things that I feel are key to developing healthy relationships in divination. There is obviously a great deal to say on the topic, so this is only a beginning...
| Episode 34: Peter Mark Adams on Sacred Art, Architecture, and Hellenistic Mysteries | 10 Mar 2023 | 01:18:10 | |
The latest episode is another lovely discussion with author, poet, and scholar Peter Mark Adams. His latest work, "Hagia Sophia / Sanctum of Kronos: Spiritual Dissent in an Age of Tyranny," is a fascinating exploration of the pagan Mystery cults and their diverse survivals in later philosophical traditions, as well as a discussion of the ways in which the construction of the Hagia Sophia cathedral in Constantinople (present-day Istanbul) encapsulates the metaphysics of spiritual union taught within the Eleusinian tradition – all in the face of intense persecution and oppression. Diving into the nature of sacred art, symbolism, and religious 'survivals,' I really enjoyed the conversation and I hope you do as well!

I certainly enjoyed it, and I hope you do as well!

A fascinating conversation with an author I've admired for many years, John Opsopaus. His work on the alphabet divinatory oracles of the ancient Greek world, "The Oracles of Apollo: Practical Ancient Greek Divination for Today" is a title I highly recommend, and he joins me to speak about it, as well as his thoughts on the art and practice of divination, and the worship of the Greek Gods. His newest work, "The Secret Texts of Hellenic Polytheism: A Practical Guide to the Restored Pagan Religion of George Gemistos Plethon" is also a fascinating read, and one we'll hopefully dive more into in a future discussion.
