EP33: MILLENNIALS & GEN Z: Revolutionizing the Path to a Brighter Future03 Nov 202000:19:11

EP33: MILLENNIALS & GEN Z: Revolutionizing the Path to a Brighter Future

This is a special episode on the show because it is Election Day! Yes folx, Tuesday, Nov 2!

Did you vote? I was so excited to go and vote today and purposely waiting until today because for me I didn't feel like I would have to wait what may feel like an eternity for the results.

Voting is so important!!

It's your civic duty!

It's your right!

It's your voice!

It's your vote!

And guess what it matters today more than ever! Get out and vote if you haven't! Polls close at 9pm tonight and you can find out where to vote by visiting vote.org to find your closest polling location.

In this episode I share my views, thoughts and opinion on how the #Millennial and #GenZ generations are shaping the next wave of our workplace, our rights, our democracy and our future.

The world is changing in front of us and we have to embrace the change and join in to support it.

There is so much healing our nation and country need! We are still living in a pandemic, there are people's rights on the line and social injustice taking place. We have to be the change we want to see and we need to come together to support each other.

At the root of it, time and time again, these two generations value democracy, race, climate, the economy (more specifically student loan and credit card debt), inclusion, balance and collaboration/partnerships.

I can't wait for you to listen to this episode and to hear what you think. If you like what hear and you found value in this episode, remember to head over to Apple Podcast and leave a review. Be sure to screenshot the review and post it over on Instagram, tag me at josemiguellongo for your shout out!

EP32: WHAT'S YOUR WHY? Discovering Your GOD Given Purpose29 Oct 202000:17:26

EP32: WHAT'S YOUR WHY? Discovering Your GOD Given Purpose

Hey Chit Chatters!

Happy Thursday!!

I know I've been talking a lot about my new found relationship with God and I want you to know that it's important for everyone to find a connection with who ever and whatever they believe in. I mean this in every respectful way possible. Faith and spirituality is very important and we have to dig deep to build a connect to what brings us life and lifts us up.

This journey for me is important so I can be the best version of me as I continue to coach everyday!

In this short episode I share some details on purpose on how asking "What is your why?" can help you figure out what your purpose is and what God needs you to do.

Everyone has a purpose in life. We need to take action to find what it is. We have to get messy and roll up our sleeves to see what we are meant to be doing.

Dive into this episode and hear me talk about a few ways you can discover your purpose. There is more to come on this in future episodes!

If you're seeking to purchase the Bible Study Book/Journal I am referring to in this episode, you can find it here .

Until the next episode!

XO,

José Miguel

EP29 THE CAREER EDIT: Gaining Clarity Through Values X Strengths15 Oct 202000:35:13

EP29: THE CAREER EDIT: Gaining Clarity Through Strength X Values

How are y’all doing? How are you feeling in this new season?

Have you been feeling drained with all the things? I know, me too!

We can talk more on this later….hint..hint ;-)

In this episode, I go into a deep dive on my version of The Career Edit. Yes, this episode title was inspired by the hit Netflix show The Home Edit. Don’t you love that show? I am so obsessed with it!

The reason the show inspired me is because they work with their clients to help them organize their spaces in their homes. In the process they focus on clarifying needs of items and editing them out, while strategizing and compartmentalizing the items into zones to make sense of the space.

This is relatable to career and life because we always want to gain clarity in our lives when we are experiencing seasons of change, which in turn create growth!

To gain this clarity we have to go back to exploring our values and to what makes the most sense for us. Our values fuel our purpose and provide us with that feeling of groundness, while connecting to our strengths, which then gives us the opportunity to realize what we truly want and what we are ultimately able to achieve.

So if you’re feeling stuck in funk with your career or life this quick Values X Strength exercise helps link what's most important to you and allow you to hone in with what you value the most!

Let’s get started!

Be sure to find a place where you can be alone for at least 10 minutes and be sure to bring a pen and paper with you (journal or notebook).

Close your eyes and relax for a minute or so and take a series of deep breaths. Inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth.

Step 1: Think of a time in your life when you had an experience, a moment when you were at your best.

  • What does at your best mean? This is when you were in a moment of joy, gratitude, success, happiness, energize or excited. An experience that was memorable.

Step 2: Write down this experience/moment. Why was this experience so important and life changing?

Step 3: Next, I want you to think about this experience and take a look at the list of values below. Which of the values do you feel your experience is most connected to? Write them down.  These are just a short list. You can come up with your own if you feel more comfortable.

  • Accounting
  • Achievement
  • Adventure
  • Aesthetics
  • Affection
  • Autonomy
  • Balance
  • Caution
  • Challenge
  • Clarity
  • Collaboration
  • Competition
  • Competency
  • Courage
  • Creativity
  • Curiosity
  • Discipline
  • Drive
  • Effectiveness
  • Efficiency
  • Entrepreneurism
  • Environment
  • Enthusiasm
  • Equality
  • Excellence
  • Fame
  • Family
  • Fun/Pleasure
  • Focus
  • Having Impact
  • Harmony
  • Hard Work
  • Health Helping Others
  • Humor
  • Independence
  • Influence
  • Innovation
  • Integrity/Honesty
  • Knowledge
  • Learning
  • Loyalty
  • Obedience
  • Optimism
  • Order
  • Ownership
  • Productivity
  • Power
  • Recognition
  • Relationships
  • Responsibility
  • Respect
  • Risk-Taking
  • Security
  • Self-Sufficiency
  • Simplicity
  • Social Service
  • Spirituality
  • Structure
  • Teamwork
  • Tolerance
  • Trust
  • Wealth

Step 4: Take your list of values and then rank them in order of importance to you. For example 1= Most Important | 2= Important | 3= Somewhat Important | 4= Least Important 5= Not Important (you can make your choice on how you label them too!)

Step 5: Last step! I promise.. I want you to think about your top 5 Strengths.

  • Write them down in number order on the left side of your sheet of paper or in your notebook.
  • Across from this list on the right side of the paper, write down your values.
  • Draw a line from the strength to the value to highlight the connection between each. This will indicate how you weigh your values with your strengths.

This is going to help you align your values with your true heart and all the important things to help you get clearer and more focus, while being able to define the strengths that are truly important to you AND help you get more engaged with what you want out of life and your career.

THINGS TO CONSIDER…

Schedule a session to help you get more clarity in your exploration and discovery process. (Special promo for $50.00 off 1 hour session when you mentioned PODCAST in your checkout.)

EP 28: ACE THE INTERVIEW: Tips & Tricks on How to Prep for Your Next Interview ( From My Car!)09 Oct 202000:10:56

Since I can remember interviewing was always one of my favorite things to do! I know, I am a true dork! BUT..I always felt energized by the idea to answer questions about myself because no one knows you better than YOU!

One of the most important parts about interviewing is that it's just a conversation. Whether you're in an interview with one person or a group, it is about you sharing your brightest moments and being able to let others get to know you. Learn about your skills, values, and experiences.

You should always remember that you're interviewing them too just as much as they're interviewing you! You want to make sure these folx jive with you and that the feel of the environment and culture of the organization matches your style and your energy. If you're doing a remote interview, ask questions about the work environment and how they would describe it.

HERE ARE MY TOP 11 TIPS FOR ACING THE INTERVIEW

  1. Review the Job Description
  • This is critical to help you understand what they expect of you in the role. The job description has the day to day responsibilities that you should anticipate if you were hired.
  • A question you can ask is, "What are some challenges you expect your ideal candidate to have in this role?" If their response is way off from the job description then you know you need to ask more questions.
  1. Why Are You Interviewing? Are You Qualified For The Job?
  • You're probably wondering why this would be important. Truth is sometimes we get too deep into the job search process and don't always ask ourselves if this job is going to be a good fit. You want to make sure that the company truly where you see yourself spending your precious time.
  1. Research The Company, Culture, What They Do and The Job!
  • DO YOUR HOMEWORK!! As I mentioned in the podcast you have to be on your "A" game to answer questions about the organization. Get a feel for who they are and what they do.
  1. Create Practical Questions To Ask In Your Interview
  • You can google some questions to ask, but I think you should do your homework to get a better sense. Be mindful of how many questions you ask.
  1. Practice Your Posture, Body Language and Speaking
  • Work on this with a friend or family member. This is important. You want to seem engaged and ready to work!
  1. Consider How You Would Answer Behavioral Interview Questions
  • Most interviews are behavioral. This means the questions are shaped around a situation that you need to share your experience.
  • Typically you're asked to provide examples of how you handled a situation.
    • I would encourage most people to review the STAR method
      • Situation
      • Task
      • Action
      • Result
    • This is a common way to provide the interviewer with all details related to their question.
    • A good way of practicing is by reviewing the responsibilities in the job description and thinking of scenarios that may arise from those duties.
  1. Conduct a Practice OR Mock Interview
  • Practice doesn't make perfect always, but helps you to relax be more comfortable in the situation and handle the conversation more smoothly
  1. Prepare Your Resume
  • Most companies have your resume before you arrive. BUT don't always expect that they will. Be sure to ask during the time of scheduling your interview who you should anticipate to meet with. Or ask how many people.
  • If you don't get a response, bring a minimum of 5 copies of your resume with you
  1. Day Prior to Interview: Review Details of Location/Time/Attire
  • A practice run is always ideal for travelling to an interview. Get familiar with your location and how much time it takes to travel. Arrive 10-15 minute prior to your interview.
  • If your interview is remote, great! Be sure to look fresh and groomed (good lighting and professional attire)
  • Business Professional is always BEST for an interview. Unless otherwise noted by the employer, you should ALWAYS plan to dress in a suite of sorts. You can google Business Professional for some suggestions.
  • Stick to neutral colors, no patterns or flash colors.
  1. Sell Yourself- They Want to Get to Know You!
  • The most common incorrectly answered interview question is, "tell us about yourself" People miss the opportunity for a connection to be developed. Really tell them who you are!
  1. Follow-Up!
  • Send a thank you email or note within 24-48hours your interview. Be sure to highlight critical points of the conversation.

EP 27: PIVOTING TO SUCCESS: How to Assess Yourself to Build the Life You Want06 Oct 202000:26:58

EP 27: PIVOTING TO SUCCESS: How to Assess Yourself to Build the Life You Want

I want to do a shout to all of the amazing superfans who listen to the show day in and day out and have taken the time to rate, review it and love it!

Thank you to @TheTiffanyHuff, Kristin Dronchi, ProducerKFC, & Jenilegs YOU PEEPS ROCK!!!

In this episode I am digging deep to help people find what the need to change to help them pivot into their success.

Change is a scary thing! No one really likes change and people usually struggle with accepting it. However from change comes a lot of growth, a lot lessons learned and tons of success.

BUT let’s clarify something about SUCCESS….

ONLY YOU can define your success

ONLY YOU have the ability to decide what a success is for you and your family

ONLY YOU can make your success a reality

ONLY YOU can take ACTION…to be SUCCESSFUL!!!

Do hear this? Well you’re reading it now! THIS IS GOLD!!!

This message right here is what’s really going to give you the leg up on shifting your mindset and your energy to get out of your comfort zone, lean into change and make some actions that will create the change for your LIFE!!

WHO IS WITH ME??

If you want to build a life that is successful to you, especially now that I know many people have been assessing their lives, wants, needs and future you need to take note some really important questions.

  1. What do you want for your life? Be realistic and think about the things you can work hard at achieving.
  2. What do you see yourself doing in the next 5 years? 10 years is too far and not tangible. 5 years will allow you to make some goals that you can achieve and have some impact in achieving them.

These are some big steps and questions to consider while make some changes. Start small and write down the things you enjoy the most and want to do more of. How can you make time for that?

MORE EPISODES COMING!!

I want to grow this show, the listeners and give you more coaching!

I am going to make a commitment to have 2 episodes a week. I am going to do my best to bring more content and amazing guests to the show to share thoughts on culture, society, business, life and coaching. Can’t wait for you to listen

It is often believed that what we study, if you got to college, will lead you on a path to a successful career. We'll as the amazing coach that I am, I am here to tell you that is false.

College is about exploring and learning about your skills, talents and values. It a time to dive deep into yourself and discover who you are, where you want to go and who you want to be.

EP 24: THE DONUT SHACK: Defining Your Passion & Pivoting to Success with Nicole Vivieros24 Sep 202000:30:37

EP 24: THE DONUT SHACK: Defining Your Passion & Pivoting to Success with Nicole Vivieros

In this episode I had a conversation with my friend Nicole about her new venture, The Donut Shack. Being a baker was something Nicole had been super passionate about for over 7 years. She had started small back in 2013 and was distracted by LIFE!

She put her baking dreams on hold and shifted her multi-passionate entrepreneur ideas to wanting to create retreats. She ultimately wanted to create an Adult Girl Scout experience and create delicious confections for her troops.

Nevertheless she kept finding herself further away from her original passion of creating food for people. As life went on Nicole discovered that she had a diary allergy and couldn’t eat certain foods especially donuts. She then came up with the idea of creating a donut that is 100% Vegan, Dairy Free, Nut Free.

BUT…It gets better, Nicole isn’t an ordinary baker she is also a Construction Manager! Nicole knew she always wanted to do something with baking, but she is using her current full-time role to help make the side hustle the real deals.

In this episode you can hear the following takeaways:

  1. All it takes is 20 seconds of courage: most things we find to be uncomfortable, confusing or even awkward will pass. Take a dive a something your gut is telling you to do is the first step to getting to where you want to go.
  2. Make a list: Look at all the things you love to do and write them down. You’re going to always looks for ways to help your business grow and pivot
  3. Don’t give up on your failures: Mis-steps and failures are intended for us to grow and be able to learn from them. The period where we feel that we failed miserably are moments of success in learn how to be the best version of what you need to do.
  4. Consistency: This probably the most important of them all. You want to make sure everything you set out to do you do it consistently and don’t stop
  5. All the Feels: When you’re so excited you think you might throw up, that when your energy, time and hard work has paid and you’re actually doing what it is you are meant to be doing.

ABOUT NICOLE VIVIEROS

Currently I’m a construction project manager, who has been making carrot cake for nearly two decades as Xmas gifts. Always had a dairy allergy and recently went vegan earlier this year. I have a niece who’s allergic to nuts and a friend who’s allergic to gluten. Those three things helped me come up with my basis for the donut shack and how I make the donuts.

Went to a Trace School for Culinary Arts. Got my associates in entrepreneurship. Grew up in a family business (not food related). Always been interested in startups.

EP 23: PASSION VS PURPOSE: How to Fuel Your Passion & Connect to Your Purpose18 Sep 202000:14:31

Episode 23: PASSION VS PURPOSE: How to Fuel Your Passion & Connect to Your Purpose

In this week’s episode we are talking about the discovery and exploration of passion vs. purpose. Both are different but connected.

Here is this quote I mentioned, “Life is a process, not an outcome. It’s like a dance, with a really good set of dance moves” – Bill Burnett

What is Passion?

Passion is used to describe and define emotions & feelings.

It resembles strength and conviction to things we love or hate.

It shares powerful enthusiasm that can often display our deepest desires.

What is Purpose?

Purpose is defined in a more intentional level and way. It’s connected to our behavior, it influences our goals, provide direction and gives us meaning.

Most people would say their purpose is what get them up in the morning and their reason for living.

Purpose also has a deeply rooted connection to achieving a goal that is often long-term but most importantly are meaningful both personally and professionally.

Our passion will fuel our purpose and give it the energy to live and connect to goals that can help us achieve satisfaction and success.

In a more symbolic lens, passion fuels the excitement and motivation to allow purpose to allow purpose to follow the journey through life.

How to Connect Your Passion & Purpose?

Passion will ALWAYS come first. It’s the vehicle that will allow the purpose to take you on the journey. The connection is YOU pushing the start button or turning the ignition.

To find your purpose…

You need to EXPLORE!

Spend time thinking about what you like and you don’t like to discover the things that truly give you the energy and motivation you for what you want to spend all of your time doing them.

These things should be things that excite you and come easy to you.

Keep a journal to document your journey. In this process, ask yourself these questions and make a list:

  • What are your favorite things in the world?
  • When you wake up in the morning what motivates and excite you?
  • Draft a statement of purpose you’re choosing to live by
  • Follow your heart and listen to god’s calling
  • Determine where you want to go with this calling, goal and journey

Building the Passion….

Passion is going to drive you to take the journey and help you practice the things in your statement of purpose. It’s important to take the time to explore the things and to them. Try them and try them again to affirm your goals, statement and solidify your passion.

EP 22: DESIGNING YOUR LIFE & CAREER: How To Mind Map The Life You Want & Deserve11 Sep 202000:24:28

EP 22: DESIGNING YOUR LIFE & CAREER: How To Mind Map The Life You Want & Deserve

Let's start by talking about what mind mapping is…

A mind map is a visual diagram that showcases organized thoughts and ideas that help you visualize what you need clarity in, create alignment in your life and provide a space to visualize outcomes and/or goals

How do you create a mind map for your life and career? WRITE THESE DOWN

Start Small! Identify three things that give you the most joy in your life, this could be a place, an experience. Think about how these things, actions or ideas energize you.

Then following the same process, If you could be anything in the world and there were 0 barriers (money, education, family, etc) what would you be or do? WRITE IT DOWN

Come to the other side of the page. Pick the place or experience that gives the most excitement and joy. Do the same for the career.

On the other side of your sheet of paper, in the middle of the page write a word affiliated to these two visions, like dream or life goals, future, etc.

Then circle the word. Draw a line from the word and write down one of the chosen life experiences, place or thing. Then do the same for the job or thing you want to be.

Continue to identify words and actions that come to mind from the two main visions of your life experience and the career you want.

You’ve now created your mind map and it's time to share it! Connect with a friend, mentor, spouse, significant others whomever you trust and feel will hold you accountable to starting to visualize these goals/dreams.

Take the time to reflect, focus and create well established goals for how you want to create this life. You may need to conduct informational interviewing/research to learn about the career and how to get there.

Have conversations with your loved ones about the life you want to live. Discuss how you can make changes to bring that vision to life and you can get their support.

EP21: HOW TO OPTIMIZE YOUR BUSINESS USING A VIRTUAL ASSISTANT: Strategies to Overcome the Burnout While Being Efficient with Jacqueline Howard03 Sep 202000:30:47

EP21: HOW TO OPTIMIZE YOUR BUSINESS USING A VIRTUAL ASSISTANT: Strategies to Overcome the Burnout While Being Efficient with Jacqueline Howard

Welcome Back! We are so glad you’re here!

In this episode I have a candid conversation with my good friend Jacqueline Howard about the value and strategies an Virtual Assistant (VA) can be to your business when you’re becoming overwhelmed and burnout.

BRING YOUR PEN & NOTEBOOK FOR THIS ONE!!

The first strategy Jacqueline talks about is recognizing what are all the things you do in a day to day business. MAKE A LIST!

  • Spend time tracking your steps and action items that you do everyday. Write them down!
  • Pay attention to the list and know which are the items you can source out and let someone do for you and what are the ones that you must do in your business.

To make your burden lighter, work in your zone of genius!

  • Pay attention to what you are best at. What is that your business is doing and serving. Are you a presenter/speaker? Focus on doing that and let your VA do the rest.

How can you develop a relationship with a VA to know if they are going to be a good fit for you in all the things you’re willing to give up?

  • Identify small things that will not hurt your business and looking for ways that the work you share with can provide accountability

Give this person:

  • General/small tasks: social media, email list, procedures or outlines
  • Work with the person to have a discovery call and see if can be a match for that person

Looking for a VA Job? Seeking to Pivot Into Becoming a Virtual Assistant?

  • Most VA’s are a jack of all trades
  • Try to not pigeonhole yourself, but try all the things that will help you determine the area of focus for the VA role that you want to do. FIND WHAT YOU WANT TO FOCUS ON
  • Look at the industry that you like and love. What is that catches your eye and what you follow.
  • Get deep into the industry and where the businesses are that need something you can offer.

EP20: FAILURE + GROWTH = SUCCESS: Overcoming a Failure in Life and Business- Why You Should Never Quit27 Aug 202000:21:21

EP20: FAILURE + GROWTH = SUCCESS: Overcoming a Failure in Life and Business- Why You Should Never Quit

“Failure gets you closer to what you’re good at” -Louis CK

In today’s episode I am sharing with you my experience with failing at a lunch for a workshop and having NO ONE sign up!

FACING REALITY HEAD ON: Trying very hard, but without being scared

Now, I wasn’t devastated that no one purchased this workshop because I was realistic about the potential outcome based on the number of people listening and following all of my content.

I leaned in with courage instead of comfort and I did it because I felt like I needed to.

KNOWING WHO YOU AUDIENCE IS AND IF THEY ARE READY TO BUY

  • You need to know how many people are actively following you and engaging in your content.
  • You need to know how many superfans you have to be able to know what they need and create all the things they need and how you can serve them.

I have 35 superfans right now. They may not be ready to buy anything from me because they may not trust me yet. They may not need what I am selling but want to actively engage and listen to the podcast.

MY PROMISE:

I am going to work hard to build an audience that will trust me and wants me to be their coach and teacher!

I recognized from this that I wasn't ready not just because I didn't have the audience, but I wasn't ready when it comes to all of the building blocks of business. Having all the engagement, followers, and listeners doesn't mean anything if the person who is there doesn't trust what you have to offer.

You have to have self-awareness and be able to give yourself permission to try things that may not work. It's the only way your going to grow. You have to give yourself the courage to do it scared and know that it might not work and not give up! NEVER GIVE UP!!

This is your time to build something amazing that only you can create, design, and share with the world. The world needs your special gift.

I know I am doing what I am meant to be doing with the podcast and the coaching business and I know that creating courses as a form of monetization is something I am going to make money on, be successful and it will happen when the timing is right.

FREEBIES ARE COMING!!!

I am going to give you all the free things! YES FREEBIES!

I am going to give freebies on coaching, resume tips, business building, LinkedIn and more! Be on the lookout!

MY HEART & SOUL

I want you to trust me and know that I am here for you and I want to deliver you results and hold you accountable in achieving your goals so you can succeed in life.

EP 19: HOW TO QUIT YOUR DAY JOB & LAUNCH YOUR COACHING PRACTICE: Tips & Tricks to Take Your Career Shift to The Next Level with Krystal Hicks, JOBTALK, LLC.20 Aug 202000:51:23

EP 19: HOW TO QUIT YOUR DAY JOB & LAUNCH YOUR COACHING PRACTICE: Tips & Tricks to Take Your Career Shift to The Next Level with Krystal Hicks, JOBTALK, LLC.

In this episode my good friend Krystal Hicks shares her story of how she took the big step of leaving a full-time job to lead a more fulfilling life as a Career Strategist/Coach.

Let me start by saying that this career shift didn’t come from disliking her full-time. It was the complete opposite! Krystal loved her job. She took her experience and passion to the next level. In search for a more meaningful path that was self-operated, fueled with purpose and having the ability to do it her way she launched JOBTALK, LLC.

Now, don’t go running so fast to submit your resignation. It’s important that as you think about starting this new journey and writing this chapter you take the time plan, save, and hold yourself accountable.

You Need To Map a Plan

Understand your values

Understand what your values mean to you

Find what full-fills you

What are you passionate about?

What do you feel is your purpose?

How will you make money

These are just some of the questions and thoughts you should be considering as you start to embark in the process of becoming self-employed.

The most important questions you should ask yourself is how will you serve and who will you serve?

Answering these questions will help you gain clarity on who your avatar is and identify their pain point.

Listen to Krystal’s story and journey that is so relatable and realistic to how anyone who has the dream to have their own business can have their own business. But you have to take risks, lean in with courage, learn what you’re worth and create the opportunity for yourself.

We talk about money, expenses, start-up costs, and more.

About Krystal  & How to Connect

Originally from Dover, NH,  Krystal graduated from UNH in 2007 with a BA in Journalism. As a born-and-raised Seacoaster, she stayed in the area and accidentally began her career in the employment sector when she fell backwards into an administrative role at a staffing firm in Portsmouth. She fell in love with the industry and soon moved into a Staffing Manager role, before transitioning into higher education career services. She obtained her Masters in Higher Education Leadership and returned to UNH, eventually becoming their Director of Career Services.  In 2016, Krystal was recruited by Lindt Chocolate USA and became their U.S. Recruitment Manager where she hired more than 220 people in 3+ years across all corporate functions of their U.S Headquarters.  Missing her career counseling roots, Krystal departed Lindt in April 2019 to launch JOBTALK, a career counseling practice that provides one-on-one job hunting support to individuals in transition, as well as employer branding consulting to companies.

Krystal also spent three years facilitating a pre-release employment program for inmates at the Strafford County Department of Corrections in Dover, and in 2017, was recognized as one of the Seacoast’s “10 to Watch" winners; a NH-based contest that recognizes young professionals who are active in the community and working towards economic development in the Seacoast.  She currently resides in Portsmouth, NH, and continues to teach her course, “College to Career: How to stand out in today’s job market” to undergraduate business students at UNH.

EP17. 3 TOOLS TO HELP YOU DIG DEEPER IN DISCOVERING YOUR PATH: The Tools of Personality, Career & Strengths Assessment To Help You Gain Clarity in Life, Career & Business with Jacqueline Wallace08 Aug 202000:46:48

EP 17.  3 TOOLS TO HELP YOU DIG DEEPER IN DISCOVERING YOUR PATH: The Tools of Personality, Career, and Strengths Assessment To Help You Gain Clarity in Life, Career and Business with Jacqueline Wallace

In this episode my good friend Jackie and I take a deep dive on the top 3 tools to help you dig deeper in discovering your path and passion. These are all the things that influence your values, interests, skills and passion.

StrengthsQuest

MBTI Myers Briggs

Strong Interest Inventory

When it comes to all of these assessments, the most important and influential piece after taking them is to connect in having a meaningful conversation.

These tools are intended to help an individual gain clarity and influence making informed decisions on their career, life, and goals.

Carl Jung: “We can learn a lot about ourselves by what annoys us about others!

StrengthsQuest

The language is based on themes of talent to align knowledge of skills to apply to life, working everyday with people and getting lost in what you're doing.

Having unique conversations leads us to appreciate and acknowledge people’s strengths and helps people process and learn how to own their unique talents and themes.

MBTI

Lots of data involved in Myers Briggs that can help individuals work better in a team. Being able to get a better understanding from the different dichotomies with the 16 different possibilities and the 4 different attributes. Learning about people and their traits will help you find ways to work with others who have different types.

Strong Interest Inventory

Focused on John Holland’s theory of Career Development. His theory was based on themes of Realistic, Investigative,Artistic, Social, Enterprising, Conventional (RIASEC). The report for this assessment allows you to explore a variety of different areas such as someone's hobbies and interests. It’s important to look at the combination of the 2 themes and being able to see how they work with each other.

Words of Wisdom from Jackie: Taking any of these assessments will help you learn the steps you can take next. She advises individuals who take the assessment to have a conversation with someone that can help you process what the results mean. Help you move along in gaining clarity and making decisions about life and career. These tools offer you the opportunity to engage in the meaningful conversations that will help you connect with the different values, the language and themes.

EP 14. THE MILLENNIAL DEBT CRISIS & HOW IT IMPACTS YOU: Student Loans/Credit Card Debt, How to Gain Financial Freedom While Winning in Life with Gail Keyes Allen24 Jul 202000:35:54

EP 14. THE MILLENNIAL DEBT CRISIS & HOW IT IMPACTS YOU: Student Loans/Credit Card Debt, How to Gain Financial Freedom While Winning in Life with Gail Keyes Allen

This week’s episode is all about helping your mindset around money and having an honest conversation with yourself around student loan debt, credit card debt, loans all the things around DEBT & MONEY!!

If you listen in, you will hear us talk about how to build a relationship with money and what money really.

Ideas on how to budget yourself and create a plan that has solid solutions and goals to solve the barriers and the challenges you are experiencing with money.

Gail sees debt as being “neutral” and chooses to decide how to view the debt in a positive vs. negative way.

You need to look at the debt as opposed to ignoring it. Seek the help to learn how to come ups with a plan to resolve your debt and identify possible solutions to work with creditors on getting your debt paid.

Gail’s ideas around budgeting are surrounded by creating a budget that works around your life and your goals.

  • Pick 1 goal that you want to solve or obtain first.
  • Look at what you’re good at:
    • Can you teach something?
    • Can you sell something?
    • Can you get a side gig or side hustle?

The idea is if you want something bad enough and this is part of your goal, you will discover a way to to really reduce the barriers to overcome the mindset to achieve the win!

Here are some barriers to overcome around money

  • You have to believe
  • You have to use your talents
  • You have to use your skills
  • You need to create something

CHANGING THE MINDSET AROUND MONEY

Make it intentional!

Think of all the ways you can make money. Write them down. Use your imagination. Use the power of affirmation, journaling and prayer to find what you can do!

Ask For It! Believe In It! Do It!

People argue for limitation: You have to believe that it is possible. People will convince themselves of the idea of not being able to do things.

  • Start with new thoughts
  • Power of Affirmation
  • Believing in yourself

Face It First

Head on, put it on paper

When you say you’re broke, you’re say you’re broken

If you’re saying your going to do it, Manifest it!

Put things in your budget that you enjoy! Things that can help you in your journey

Have a Money Date

Develop a relationship with money

Stop pretending that it’s not there

Talk about it with people you can trust and who can help you make decisions that are part of your plan

4 Important Things to Get Started

1. Start your day and end your day with putting your thoughts and feelings on paper. Be sure to address the things that are bringing you down so you can start improving the relationship you have with yourself and with money

2. Start Believing in What You Want to Achieve

When you say it’s hard, you’re going to make it hard for yourself. Put out into the universe what you want to make happen to produce the positive energy that you want to get out of the universe for your life!

3. No Matter What it is YOU Need to Show Up For YOU

Get yourself Unstuck to get yourself out of the way to shift and change the mindset

4. Use Your Skills & Talents To Go in The Right Direction

Look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself what your skills are?

What are your talents? What do you have to give to the world that can help you make money?

ASK FOR HELP! It’s important to be able to get out of your own way to get the help you need to be able to achieve your money goals.

EP 13: FROM SIDE GIG TO SIDE HUSTLE: How Building Your Own Business From The Ground Up Can Give You Life. Lesson from a Millennial Workaholic17 Jul 202000:36:43

EP 13: FROM SIDE GIG TO SIDE HUSTLE: How Building Your Own Business From The Ground Up Can Give You Life. Lesson from a Millennial Workaholic

In today’s episode, I am sharing with you my experiences of having many side gigs to launch my side hustle which is now Coaching with Jose Miguel. I’ve always wanted to have my own business, be my own boss! However, I had to go through a journey of personal growth, develop confidence and make lots and lots of mistakes to discover my true purpose in creating the side hustle.

This episode goes deep into what I’ve learned so far in launching my coaching business, creating the podcast, building my website and the meat and potatoes in between.

I share how I created my avatar to figuring out my niche. Both are essential in the first stages of launching a business.

I also discuss the value in understanding what you're selling and how and who you’re serving it to. Someone once told me that a confused buyer doesn’t buy. I’ve learned this lesson the hard way. Guess what I am still learning and growing.

There is no right or wrong way to grow and launch your business. Yes there are all types of best practices out there that people will sell you to make a buck, but ultimately you need to use your talents, skills and values to dig deep and find what your business aka side hustle should be.

One of the pieces I forgot to mention in the episode is I highly recommend finding a coach or a mentor who can support you, guide you and hold you accountable in achieving goals for your business along the way. Setting up goals is a fundamental function to lead your business to succeed.

If you’re interested in learning more about how to launch your business or are looking for a coach to mentor you, guide you and hold you accountable I am here to help! Be sure to reach out to book a consultation.

EP 12: NOT MAKING YOUR DREAMS A REALITY? 4 Steps to Discovering Your Passion & Making Your Dreams a Reality

In this episode I share with you 4 simple ways to make your dreams a reality while discovering your passion, fueling your strengths and igniting your motivation to making your dreams come true!

Be sure to grab your favorite beverage and notebook and pen. This one is going to be good!

STEP 1: FIND YOUR PASSION

  • Identify what excites and energizes you!
    • Grab a notebook and pen and start to write down the activities that you enjoy the most and how you feel when you do them.
  • Assessments are an option as opposed to digging deep into your inner child, but this type of activity will help you get clearer about your inner child and the things you were passionate about when you were a kid that you then become distracted by as you get older.
    • I love assessment tools and think that they are a great value. If you’re interested in taking a personality assessment please contact me so I can connect you to the best one.

STEP 2: Invest in Your Strengths

  • Take an honest inventory of what you do best.
  • Think of a time when you were at your best.
  • Ask your friends and family what they think you do well.
  • Write these things down and start to organize them by categories or themes
  • Spending time assessing your talents is critical to helping you work towards your passion and make sure that your skills and talents are aligned.

STEP 3: Tap Into Your Motivation

  • Think about what you need to stay motivated and what motivates you!
  • Set meaningful and realistic goals.
  • Find what's gonna drive you to succeed and achieve your goals and success
  • Find someone who is going to hold you accountable and motivate you to achieve your goals.
  • Be sure to start thinking about the future as you start to achieve the goals you’ve set so you can be strategic in each step.

STEP 4: Stay on Course

  • Make sure you’re using your passion to fuel your strengths that you continue to ignite your plans and goals.

THE JOURNEY OF SELF DISCOVERY WHILE FINDING HAPPINESS: Secrets to Love, Life, Business & Success with Tanner Efinger26 Jun 202000:33:24

EPISODE 10: THE JOURNEY OF SELF DISCOVERY WHILE FINDING YOUR HAPPINESS:

Secrets to Love, Life, Business & Success with Tanner Efinger

WHAT IS THE SELF DISCOVERY JOURNEY?

In this episode you will hear Tanner’s story of how he moved around the country and the world to build his career and found love along the way. He spent time exploring different forms of theater, acting and arts to follow his passion of theater and acting. Along the way he discovered his voice as an activist in the LGBTQI+ community and representing the community to be a voice and support.

He experienced a shift in his life where he recognized that his identity was at the core of the work he was meant to do. Being an activist was his calling and his mission has be been wholeheartedly called to support Queer people and the Arts while supporting a community that he identifies with and applying his passion in all of the areas.

HOW IT COMES TOGETHER: Secrets to His Passion

Accepting all of the cheesy elements that we see in our journey, passion and to then start living through the purpose our lives are intended to serve.

Tanner realized his leadership and advocacy for being an activist led to his entrepreneurial life in creating opportunity for local theater and arts.

Opportunity can be presented in the form of a community to define your career in anything and in your future for your own success.

“You can create the career you want, but need a community around doing the same thing”. -Tanner Efinger

CREATING OPPORTUNITY IN A COMMUNITY

Using the culture that is existing in our community to continue to grow the economy while continuing to grow it with collaborations, events, and partnerships. Tanner’s investment into establishing a business that is for the Queer community has expanded jobs, culture, connections and networks for not just the Queer community but also educating those around us.

Creating a community that is YES AND…

"Everyone's path is unique and free advice is what you paid for it!"

ABOUT TANNER

After graduating from Phillips Academy Andover, Tanner moved to New York City and received BFA theatre performance training at Marymount Manhattan College. He performed in NYC and LA for 10 years (see Performance CV) and in 2008 Tanner became active in community and national organizing. In 2011, Tanner moved to Oxford, UK where he managed several restaurant and art venues, before developing a career as a freelance theatre artist and creative consultant, promoting and encouraging artistic endeavors on a community scale. In 2017, Tanner moved to Syracuse, New York and founded Breadcrumbs Productions, where he now works as Founding Artistic Director. In 2019, he and his husband Nick opened Wunderbar, a queer bar and theatre in the heart of downtown Syracuse.

A CHIT CHAT CONVERSATION ON #BLACKLIVESMATTER MOVEMENT, RACE, & SOCIAL INEQUALITY: Where Do We Go From Here? With Guests Doneilous King & Melissa Prest17 Jun 202000:37:34

EPISODE 9: A CHIT CHAT CONVERSATION ON #BLACKLIVESMATTER MOVEMENT, RACE, & SOCIAL INEQUALITY: Where Do We Go From Here? With Guests Doneilous King & Melissa Prest

Let’s have a conversation about understanding what is happening in our country right now, what are all the terms people are seeing and hearing and how can our white brothers and sisters stand with us in the social justice movement, the new civil rights movement.

***Please excuse the audio as this is recorded conversation where I wanted to bring you the raw unedited audio that is truly authentic.***

I also want to make you aware that this is an educational conversation among my colleagues and myself. We are feeling the pain that is happening in the world in the social justice movement, #BlackLivesMatter and we wanted to share with listeners how they can engage in a conversation.

If there is anything you take away from this episode is to engage in conversation with your black friends and family. LISTEN!!! Listen to what is happening and people’s experiences. We all need to learn and we all need to be part of the conversation to help make the change.

Let’s Dive In!

What is EOP?

The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) has been around for over 50 years. Initially started in New York state. It’s a state funded program that designs to increase education for historically disadvantaged, under-represented populations. Specifically for students who are able to succeed in college, but due to certain circumstances wouldn’t normally be admitted into college. The program is designed to help students achieve academic success while having a positive college experience and helping them succeed in their life after college.

For more information on the EOP Program in New York go here: https://www.suny.edu/attend/academics/eop/

How has the situation impacted you as an educator and what do you say to someone who doesn’t understand?

Melissa shares that she grew up multiculturally and she believes it important to use life experiences and how your views are shaped to better understand what we are living with.

Doneilous shared that it is important to educate ourselves as much as our students/young people. It’s important to keep them safe, but  also help them understand the importance and values of voting, civic engagement, politics, history, and lead them into a positive place in society. More importantly loving who you are and where you come from. Accept those parts of you and love yourself!

How is today’s movement different from the one we have seen in recent years and the civil rights movement?

More people who would oftentimes not find themselves affected by what is happening are getting involved and are recognizing that it is going to take everybody to make it better.

At the root of it, Black People have been historically seeking Human Rights and Equal Right which is a basic fundamental value and right that white people have always had, but black people have had to fight for.

The difference between today and the past is that social media plays a pivotal role in how it is seen and how it is being circulated. Harnessing the power of social media to not just share it but use it as the tool for the voice. The response of the people and their reaction to get involved has ignited people to go out and support the change that is not just social but a fight for equality in the treatment of black.

How can you educate someone who is white and is trying to educate themselves on what they are seeing and hearing?

Supporters or white allies, be humble and become a listener. Watch movies and documentaries that can help you understand the historical context and educate yourself a little to see the history of how this has been building. It will help understand how black people have suffered for hundreds of years for what has been done to them. From slavery to Jim Crow Laws, to Civil Right Movement in the 1960’s.

People can also understand what white privilege is. It’s been a super power in america that has built an advantage or a generational pass through. To be white in america is to never have to know the black experience.

What can white people do?

They need to put black people at the table and not let them be part of the menu.

White people are not qualified to decide what issue is race related. For example, if you want to learn about domestic violence, you talk to the victim not the perpetrator. White privilege prohibits people from seeing racism and microaggressions.

White people need to understand the agents of the overarching problem which is white supremacy. You don’t have to be racist but you’re perpetuating the values of racism.

You have to go back to where racism comes from. Racism is learned behavior and it starts in the home. A young child doesn’t know what racism is, their values and sometimes it’s faith driven. Understanding where someone’s racism is stemmed from and how it is embedded into someone’s views and beliefs. People have to experience it to understand it.

Recognizing the built in racism and hate that religion to have the conversation of where it stemmed from. Understanding and knowing the history is important to be able to move forward to create the change that is needed for today and the future.

What is the takeaway from this movement and what would you as a black person want people to know and be aware of?

Share in someone’s pain. Learn, listen and share in the experiences of being able to validate someone’s experiences.

It’s important to hold people accountable. People of color are always fixing their problem in society. It’s important to hold people accountable for their actions in the situation we are living in right now, this is a problem for everyone, but caused by white people and white people need to fix it even though it is perceived as it is only impacting black people.

Guest Bio & Info

Thanks again to both of my guests, Donelious and Melissa in having this conversation with me. It is not only important for people to start having more conversations such as this one, but to be forgiving of people who are unaware of the terms and the language that is being used. As we mentioned earlier in the episode some white people aren’t aware of what white privilege means. This is key to help others learn but also allow them to be part of the conversation to create awareness, support, and create a social impact.

STRUGGLING TO FIND YOUR PURPOSE IN YOUR CAREER & LIFE? How to Land Your Next Job & Get What You Want12 Jun 202000:23:07

EPISODE 8: STRUGGLING TO FIND YOUR PURPOSE IN YOUR CAREER & LIFE? How to Land Your Next Job & Get What You Want!

Please note this episode has no editing. I felt I like I need to connect with all of you and basically jumped on the laptop, put on the headphone and clicked record. I hope you don't mind. :)

Hello Chit Chatters!

Life is all about living, learning and growing. I have been doing a lot of growing and learning, but also self-reflecting. I learned recently that a part of me is more vulnerable than I thought it was. Like many others out there, I have been struggling with the death of George Floyd and seeking how to support my brothers and sisters of color. I’ve been struggling with how I can speak what I am feeling and how to be mindful and empathetic to black people.

I shared perhaps one of my most vulnerable posts on Instagram recently that was really eye opening. I am a Hispanic 36 year old gay millennial. I am a husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. I identify as a person of color.

Those words made me cry when I wrote them. I cried a little even writing them again. Yes my skin color is lighter than my brothers and sisters of color. How can I help in the movement of #BlackLivesMatter? How can I stand with my brothers and sisters? I USED MY VOICE!

I spoke up on a few occasions over the past few days and shared how white supremacy and white privilege can’t continue. How we need to have conversations that are hard and definitely powerful but we need to discuss the implicit bias, we need to talk about the microaggressions and the systemic-racism. These conversations are learning opportunities for all.

I am no expert and don’t pretend to me. But I am sure passionate about social issues, creating change for diversity, equity and inclusion. I have fought for this since I was 11 years old!

Now this episode is 20 minutes long and I don’t go too deep into everything regarding the #BlackLivesMatter, but I share a few thoughts on how I have been feeling. I can tell you I am in pain and deeply saddened. At the same time I am hopeful for the change that we are creating in our world right now!

I also talked about what to expect with the show in the upcoming weeks. I have an episode coming up on Monday with two of my colleagues where we dive in on how white people can help in the #BlackLivesMatter movement and they speak to their experiences as African Americans in their community.

We will also be having some live coaching sessions! I am excited to bring you these 3 amazing coaching sessions with some gals that I met in my Facebook Community.

PLUS…

This episode goes into detail on how I can help you discover your purpose in life and your career. Are you currently jobless, unemployed or seeking and stuck! I CAN HELP! Let’s set up a coaching session and get you employed, fulfilled and unstuck!

I talk about creating the perfect resume for your dream job, SEO and ATS. I am an expert at resume and cover letter writing and my strategies are proven to get you the interview!!

This episode is filled with emotion, energy and passion from beginning to end.

Let’s dive into the show!

Struggling to Find Clarity? Beat the Head VS. The Heart Battle

Stef and worked on this title together and a lot of the notes in this episode are inspired by the conversation and what she said.

How do you get clarity and what does that mean? Below are some examples of what to do to start getting clarity

Who is the person that GOD is calling you to be?

Start with 1 thing a day

Turn off work on Fridays

Alignment with clarity and your call is fueled by you listening to your inner voice. Oftentimes this requires sitting in silence.

Get a journal and start writing!

What is Clarity Coaching?

Clarity is everything!! All of us are born with a spiritual God given gift. It’s up to you to uncover it and let it shine. Often it's a call to serve people or make things or create things. Everyone has a gift to share with the world that is special in its own way.

What is the gift and when does it come to us? How do we find it?

Who you’re at 10 is the same person you are today, but you got distracted by the world (ie: parents told you who you are, your teachers told you who you are, money, career, success, social media, etc.)

As a 10 year old the dream was in your heart. You have to come back to that.

So you ask yourself! What was I created to do here?

Tacticals!!

  1. Identify your clarity roadblocks

Sit with yourself and yourself only, if you’re spiritual GOD too, with a sheet of paper:

What is keeping you from clarity

  • Shiny objects
  • Opinions of others
  • Multipassionate, I can’t pick one thing
  • Someone already does that

These are limiting beliefs because you are scared!! They are lives you keep telling yourself!

Get ready for the breakthrough of doing the discovery!  SAY THE WORDS: I am ready for my clarity breakthrough!

You need to get rid of the noise, get quiet: What is that for you? Meditation, prayer, journaling?

Who are you at your core?

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF

  1. What are you great at?

Journey is uncovered as you do your best work where you are!

  1. Those I serve best are?

Start with the visuals, who do you serve? Who is it that you can serve best? What does it look like?

  1. Now, how can I serve you? This is the how to..

A business roadmap? Career & Personality Assessment? Job Searching? Clarity Discovery

  1. What lights you up and what fires you up?

Where is the energy leading you?

  1. Where are you aligned and where are you not aligned?

Leadership, public speaking, events, personal development

Following the rules, selling one thing, listening to someone else, not being my own boss

Is what I am doing right now right??

GOLDEN NUGGET ALERT: Give yourself the permission to do something new, let go of the fear and the limiting beliefs that are all lies!

6.How can you just make time to start doing the thing that lights you up even thirty minutes a week? How can you just start? Even if you don’t know how to monetize it, just start?

Raise your hand to allow all the answers flow through!

There is no end to clarity! It grows as you grow and it is constantly flowing, as you evolve in your journey your clarity will continue to come through.

Doing your thing doesn’t always have a title, just start some place and the evolutions to allow it grow with you. Listen to how you’re helping others.

Clarity comes first to understand the path you want to go in. Stef specialize in Mom’s who are or want to be entrepreneurs. She guides them through her 3 their system which is proven to help you succeed:

  1. Clarity: private coaching to find what your gift is
  2. Create Trust In Your Audience: Create a Podcast to serve for free and see results and find solutions. I doesn’t have to be just a podcast it could be a blog or youtube channel
  3. Coaching & Course: Solving people’s problems through implementation (1 on 1) or a course for structure.

How to bring your gifts to life during this difficult and challenging time we’re living in?

Spend this time building something that is your passion.

Are you looking for new ways to serve people? It doesn’t matter the scale it matters the impact

You then need to get clearer on how you can continue to serve people and get them to trust you. You do this through your podcast. Stef calls this Trust Tier 1.

How too can you serve more deeply. It doesn’t matter how it’s the impact. The more you can give away for free, the more it will come back to you 3x more.

You have to start somewhere to have service. Service over sales, never leave people without implementation. Offer what you do.

Out of 96.. 60 people took the implementation piece and took the offering because she showed up and shared her trust tiers. She knew what she needed to serve and it was received!

It’s not about marketing or sales, it’s about going deeper and serving while then showing the implementation level after you serve. It’s going to be different for each person and the audience.

When you serve for free you will see the impact and then see the change in the bank account!

EP 120: Overcoming Job Search Rejection08 May 202400:32:19

Episode 120: Overcoming Job Search Rejection

Hey everyone, and welcome back to Coaching for Millennials where we talk about all things career, success, and navigating those tricky life transitions. Today, we're diving into a topic that I know so many people struggle with – and I've struggled with it myself – the overwhelming sense of rejection and frustration that comes with a difficult job search.

If you feel like you've sent out hundreds of resumes, maybe gotten a few interviews, but those offers just don't seem to materialize, you're not alone. I'm going to break down exactly why job search rejection can be so soul-crushing, what you can do to manage the emotional side, and those actionable steps to improve your chances and stay in the game.

Segment 1: Why Job Rejection Hurts So Bad

  • Personalization: It's easy to feel that a rejection is a judgment of YOU, not just your skills or fit for the specific job.
  • Loss of Control: The job search often feels like you aren't in the driver's seat, and that compounds when you're faced with rejection.
  • Ego Bruising: Let's face it, your career is tied into your self-worth, and rejection can sting that pride.

Segment 2: Coping Strategies for Rejection

  • It's NOT personal (most of the time): Companies have countless reasons for not choosing you, many totally unrelated to your talent.
  • Give Yourself Time to Feel: It's okay to be disappointed, even angry. Vent to a trusted friend, go for a run, scream into a pillow. Then, time to refocus.
  • Focus on Controllables: You CAN'T control hiring decisions, but you CAN control the quality of your applications, your effort, your skills development.
  • Small Wins Matter: Did you tailor a cover letter especially well? Celebrate it! Small wins keep your momentum alive.

Segment 3: Staying Positive and Standing Out

  • Targeted Applications: Quality over quantity, folks. Deeply research jobs that are a TRUE fit and customize your materials for each.
  • Keywords are King: Your resume and cover letter must align with the job posting's lingo – they use software to scan these.
  • Networking Power: It sounds old school, but real human connections matter. LinkedIn, professional groups, even informational interviews.
  • The Skills Upgrade: Be honest – is there some training, software, or a relevant skill you could build to boost your appeal?

Show Notes

Action Items:

  • Revisit Your Materials: Is your resume up-to-date and impactful? Does your cover letter clearly show why you're the ideal fit? Get ruthless editing here.
  • Time Allocation: Set specific job search HOURS. Don't let it bleed into all your time and drain your energy
  • Accountability Buddy: Find a friend on a similar path and check in on each other's progress.

Positive Affirmation: "I am capable. I am worthy. The right opportunity is waiting for me."

From Drained and Bleh to Energized in 7 minutes with Benjamin Fritz14 May 202000:48:22

Show Notes: Episode 4- From Drained and Bleh to Energized in 7 minutes with Guest Benjamin Fritz, May 14

Today we have a special guest on our show, my friend Ben Fritz! Ben is the creator of “The Creative Energy Shift”, which we will talk about on the show today and he is also a fellow podcast host, “Why The World Needs You”. You can find Ben’s bio and social contact info below.

Today’s show is going to be about coaching and what coaching means. You’ll learn how to get inspired, motivated and how to learn to shift your mindset.

Ben shares his story on how he had a career change in his life and how his original plans after college changed him and his career. Throughout his journey he realized his passion and knew he needed to make a shift.

Early on in his college education he went for the career that led him to the money versus the path of his passion and purpose. He shares how it changed him and how his transition from a computer science programmer to fitness trainer to life coach as impacted his view on life.

We talked about how money is a resources but can hurt you when you let it be the sole factor in deciding your career and your future path.

We shifted our conversation to The Creative Energy Shift (CES). Ben believes that we each have a creative gift that we need to be giving the world.  The CES was born out of working with clients and people who are often working in careers that they are often not happy in or are too scared leaving their job. Minute 18:00

Making a risky changes while still keeping a job that can be consistent and stable. However when you want to create another world of work like a side hustle or gig you end up drained at the end of the day before you can even begin to get to put dinner at the table.

HOW DO YOU MAKE THE SHIFT

Two states, creative state and survival state. We all have things we need to do in our lives to get where we want to be. It’s hard to step into the person we want to become. Ben created this while working with his clients in harnessing the power of mindset, visualization and body to create a place this much light and more productive.

HOW WE LET FEAR TAKE OVER FROM REACHING OUR GOAL

Fear changes our mindset and always keeps us in the survival mode. Sometimes we are so scared to disappoint the people around us and trying to battle everything that we are dealing with like money, relationships, imposter syndrome, etc. Minute 22:00

SHIFTING THE CONVERSATION FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

Often we are asked at a young age, what do you want to do when you grow up? How can we know who we want to be when we are still trying to tie our shoes? It’s important to shift the conversation to learning to develop skills, understanding our values and using the strengths that we developed and are part of our unique personality and style to apply it to the world of work and future career. Using the conversation to really gather information and learn more about who we are meant to be.  Minute 28:40

WHERE DO YOU FIND A COMMUNITY AND HOW DO YOU BUILD ONE?

Depending on what you want and where you are looking there are tons of communities and group to join and be part of that help you in your personal and professional life. Sometimes a community can lift you up and help you find your happy and your gift. We all have one and we have to work to find it.

Ben says “hear the voice inside you and don’t let it hold you back. That little voice is the true you and what is urging you to do the things you are meant to do.” He shares that he works with people who are often stuck and are looking for a place to connect. He uses his podcast to create that space and share the journey that people have lived with and their life experience.

HOW TO FIND BEN?

Episode 3: How Courage Can Change Your Life06 May 202000:16:08

Show Notes: Episode 3: How Courage Can Change Your Life, May 6, 2020

Today we are going to talk about how courage can not only change your life, but give you the control that you need to get you where you want to go.

We are living in some really challenging times. This global pandemic has caused so many people to shift their lives in ways they never imagined. For many people it has affected their mental health and ability to cope with everyday tasks.

Let’s start off my identifying what Courage is?

According to the dictionary, courage is defined as

  • the ability to do something that frightens one.
  • strength in the face of pain or grief

Basically is doing something bravely or just the act of being brave. We all have this inside and we need to find it!

This is also about control. Having control over things during a challenging time or period can be difficult. When you don’t have control, you need to use courage to help you FEEL like you are in control.

Gretchin Rubin said it best, “Act the way you want to feel.” This is gold you guys!

  • We have to look for ways to process our feelings
  • We have to take care ourselves
  • Take care of our family and those around us

Why is Courage so Important?

We don’t give ourselves the permission to act bravely. Often we only have control of our feelings and our mindset. When you give yourself courage, you can change the mindset.

Often choosing comfort is the easy way out of choosing courage. You get in the mindset that negates your efforts to move you ahead. CHOSE Courage over Comfort and you will seek yourself grow.

One of my favorite quotes is by Brené Brown, “Courage has a ripple effect. Every time we choose courage, we make sure everyone around us is a little better and the world is a litter braver.”

I AM SO HERE FOR THIS!!!

  • You have the ability to be brave
  • You have the ability to challenge yourself

Key Takeaways

  • Be nice to yourself- Most Important
  • Be loving, compassionate, cooperative, and kind
  • Connect with 1 person each day for 1 week and ask them- How are they doing?
  • With Courage find Joy: look for things that make you happy, find an activity you can do that puts you at ease (music, meditation, working out, cooking, etc)
  • Connect with people: We are humans! We are meant to connect and have emotions!
  • Also May is National Mental Awareness Month, if you or someone you know suffers from mental health please check-in and let them know you are here for them.

EP117: Unlocking Your Potential: The Mindset & Manifestation Connection19 Apr 202400:36:40

Welcome back to another powerful episode, everyone! Today, we're diving deep into a transformative concept that can dramatically reshape your life – the interwoven nature of your mindset and the incredible potential of manifestation. If you're ready to take control of your thoughts, beliefs, and create the reality you deserve, you're in the right place. Let's get started!

Mindset: What It Is and How It Works

  • Definition of Mindset: Your mindset is an established set of beliefs and attitudes that shape how you see the world. Think of it like a pair of glasses – the lenses you use determine how situations and opportunities appear.
  • Mindset Matters: Your mindset impacts everything you do. It influences your motivation, resilience, the way you handle challenges, and even how you perceive yourself. If you want to change outcomes, shift your mindset first.
  • Growth vs. Fixed Mindset: Research made popular by Dr. Carol Dweck suggests we often fall into one of two categories:
    • Fixed mindset: Belief that talent and ability are set, leading to avoidance of challenges and a sense of stagnation.
    • Growth mindset: Belief that you can develop and expand abilities with practice and dedication, leading to embracing obstacles and a love of learning.

Developing Your Mindset: Facts and Action

  • Fact #1 – It Takes Work: Our mindsets are forged over time through experiences and messages we internalize. They're not set in stone. Changing them requires conscious effort.
  • Fact #2 – Neuroplasticity: This is the amazing ability of your brain to reorganize itself. With repetition and focus, you literally rewire your brain for a new mindset.
  • Develop It – How?
    • Challenge limiting beliefs: When you hear that inner critic ("I'm not good enough," etc.) examine the evidence. Are those thoughts really true?
    • Reframe negativity: Turn "I can't" into "I can't YET." Focus on growth, not limitations.
    • Empowering vocabulary: Choose words that reflect resilience, possibility, and ownership.

Mindset's Connection to Manifestation

  • Manifestation 101: Manifestation means bringing your desires into reality, aligning your thoughts, energy, and actions for specific outcomes. It taps into the power of focused intention.
  • Energy is Key: Your mindset determines your vibrational frequency. High vibes (joy, gratitude) attract positive experiences; low vibes (doubt, fear) manifest more of the same.
  • Your Beliefs Create Your Reality: If you subconsciously believe you're unworthy of love, for example, amazing partners won't just appear. Your mindset sets the stage for what you manifest.

Embracing Manifestations' Power

  • Why It Matters: Because you are a co-creator of your life, not just a passive observer. Manifestation empowers you, making you active in designing your ideal future.
  • Busting a Myth: Manifestation is not magic. It IS about focused intention and work, but life isn't a vending machine. Sometimes, it takes unexpected twists on the way to your goal.

Manifestation: Call to Action

  • Clarity is King (or Queen): Get crystal-clear on what you want, not just what you DON'T want.
  • Visualize & Feel: Imagine your desire as if it's already real. Engage the emotions you'll feel when you have it.
  • Inspired Action: Don't just sit around waiting. Take aligned steps towards your goals – big and small!

EP116: How to Overcome Your Fears in Your Career & Life11 Apr 202400:39:49

Hey everyone, and welcome back to Coaching for Millennials. For all of us navigating this wild ride of adulting, some days it can feel like fear is holding the steering wheel, and we're stuck in the passenger seat. But what if we could snatch that power back?

Today, we're getting down into the roots of fear, understanding where it comes from, and how we can use it as fuel for success. Let's dive in!"

Dissecting Fear: Where Does it Live?

Fear isn't all bad – evolutionarily, it kept us safe. Our modern fears: failure, rejection, the unknown, public speaking, being 'seen'. How fear manifests: avoidance, procrastination, self-sabotage. Fear, Imposter Syndrome, & Limiting Beliefs Our inner critic - it's fueled by fear. "I'm not good enough," "I'll fail" – these are FEAR talking, not truth.

Limiting beliefs hold us back from opportunities and personal growth. Courage: The Antidote It's NOT about being fearless, but acting in spite of fear. Small acts of courage build confidence – like raising your hand in a meeting! Courage lets us pivot – saying 'no', or changing careers when we're unhappy.

Strategies for Mastering Your Fears Acknowledgement:

Name your fear (it loses power in the light). Challenge your thoughts: Is this fear realistic? What's the worst that could happen? Reframing: See fear as a sign you're stepping into growth territory. Visualization: Imagine yourself succeeding despite the fear.

Call to Action

"What's ONE tiny but courageous act you can commit to this week? Maybe it's sending that job application, asking for that raise, or even just having that difficult conversation. Write it down, put it somewhere visible, and DO IT!

Key Takeaways

Fear is normal, but it doesn't have to control you. Fear often shows up as imposter syndrome and limiting beliefs. Courage is a muscle, it grows stronger with use. Small acts of courage can lead to huge shifts in your life.

Positive Affirmations

I am capable of overcoming my fears.

I choose courage over comfort.

My fears do not define me.

I am stepping into my power.

Call to Action Identify one specific fear you have.

EP111: Being Human: Coping with Anxiety & Depression29 Apr 202200:39:57

Hey Chit Chatters!

Welcome to Episode 2 of Season 3 of the show. This episode is a must listen to as it is probably the hardest episode I've ever had to record. You'll probably hear it in my voice that I am a little nervous sharing my story.

As of late, I really haven't been well and I have been working on myself. I am working on being human and had take to sometime to figure out what that means. I start to be honest with my feels and how I ignored them for so long. I began to process some really heavy stuff that I haven't been able to let go. I also realized that it's okay to not always have it all figured out.

I am coping with anxiety and depression that has hit me in a wave I never saw coming, but I also ignored. I ultimate pretended that what I was thinking and feeling couldn't be through until it consumed to a point where I had to let something go.  By March I finally asked for help because I was tired of how I was feeling and knew something was wrong. It was time to stop pretending everything was okay and start working to getting better.

I am grateful and blessed that I took that first step. I still have a long journey to go, but I am getting back to the things I love to do!

I hope you take the time to listen and if this episode resonates with you, please share it with someone you think need to hear it.

Love and Light,

José Miguel
