Concerns About the Office of Homeless Services Boil Over

With the Old Tent City encampment set for closure early next week, is Metro’s “Housing First” strategy being followed? Executive producer Whitney Pastorek sits down with Homelessness Planning Council chair Kennetha Patterson and writer/community organizer Mike Lacy, who say they have significant concerns about the Office of Homeless Services, the outside organizations tasked with overseeing supportive housing sites like Strobel House, and how Nashville’s Continuum of Care is being impacted as a result.

What Our Local Hemp Industry Is Fighting For

The battle over hemp products in Tennessee is ongoing, and prior to a judge's temporary injunction on Dec. 23, a contested new rule scheduled to go into effect today would have barred products that contain THCA — a chemical found naturally in hemp. Before the new regulations emerged, Grace Fuisz sat down with Matthew McClure, the keeper of Benny the CannaBUS, to explain what was actually being sold in Nashville, and help us understand what all the jargon means.

We promised drama at Tuesday’s Metro Council meeting and it delivered — although not in the way we expected. Nashville Scene columnist Nicole Williams joins host Marie Cecile Anderson and executive producer Whitney Pastorek for the final Friday News Roundup of 2024. She’s explaining why Morgan Wallen’s sign got approved without discussion and how a resolution involving public safety departments sparked emotions. Nicole and Whitney also go long on the “Survivor” finale (where local Titans beat reporter Sam Phalen made the final three), Marie alerts us to Justin Timberlake’s wardrobe malfunction at Bridgestone, and everyone shares their New Year’s resolutions for Nashville.
