Checkout what Casey has to say, My name is Casey Kang Head. I am a 3x survivor of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. I am an Author, personal trainer, Yoga instructor, Yoga for oncology certified, Cancer Exercise Specialist, PN Level 1 Nutritionist, Restorative Yoga, Trauma Trained and lifelong learner. I am dog mom to Lily. A 3x cancer survivor from a rare children’s cancer I had at 31 years old. Here is the short story version. At 31 I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (a rare childrens’ cancer). 4 months into treatment I had a stroke & seizures went into a medically induced coma for 3 days. I had to relearn how to use the entire left side of my body(yes, walk, talk and function) while still going through treatment. My treatment protocol was 18 months long. During this time I settled affairs. Had hard conversations with friends and family about dying. Sat with them in tears, just holding space. I waited 4 months…..before the letter of compassion that we had to write to the FDA & drug manufacturer was approved, because it was an immunotherapy not yet approved to use or for my cancer. I had 4 rounds and by some miracle worked. .After that I had a stem cell transplant. Yes, I have two different types of DNA now. Yet about 6 months later I relapsed again. Another 4 rounds of immunotherapy and we waited to see if it would come back. Our delightful Guest today on our Podcast is Jenny, who was born in Ashburton New Zealand, lived a fairly ordinary life until her health took a turn for the worse towards the end of 1999. This decline resulted in her becoming bedridden and struggling with suicidal thoughts. She is married and has two grown-up sons. Then one night in desperation she cried out “I can not do this anymore – please help me”. She did not know it then but that was the turning point in her life. Jenny was further “tested” when she was diagnosed with Stage 3C ovarian cancer in December 2012. Of course, like anyone else who is diagnosed with cancer, I was afraid: well, that wasn’t altogether true, I was petrified. Fear being my constant companion as I shook like a leaf from sun up to sun down – until one morning, 10 days following my diagnosis, I woke to a knowing that I was healed. One sentence. That’s all it took. One sentence and my body shut down. Immediately. Entirely. “I’m so sorry, you have incurable ovarian cancer”. I didn’t hear another word the doctor said. I couldn’t talk. Her experiences in life and the many loved ones that she has lost will hopefully give you some tips on how to cope. Lisa Marie had tragedy struck. She lost 12 loved ones within a 22 month period; including her parents and her 24-year-old son-in-law. The amount of grief was nearly too much to bear. Lisa Marie was drowning. But, she carried her grief, and took on the grief of others. Especially her daughter’s pain. There are no words. She knew if SHE was going to survive, mentally and emotionally, she needed to make drastic changes. Life is short and fragile and she was no longer going to be stuck! Not for a single second did it go through my head that I was going to die", Caroline Monk Our interview today with Isabelle Amigues is taking a deeper look into stage 4 cancer and how we should beat it! Check out Isabelle's story! Isabelle had stage 4 cancer with Metastatis to the liver and bone. She is also an MD as well. Interestingly it changed my perspective on how to approach diseases from a different angle. Isabelle Amigues, MD, is a physician scientist with a specialty in rheumatology. She has trained both in Paris, France as well as Columbia University, in New York City. She is based in Denver, CO where she sees her patients. She is the author of multiple book chapters and scientific articles in rheumatology. She was on the path to becoming a full time researcher when, at age 40, in the midst of an existential crisis, she was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic breast cancer. A timely meeting with a non-traditionally trained practitioner taught her a different approach to disease. She experienced the power of meditation, visualization, energy healing and love. Her journey through cancer inspired her to learn more about these alternative approaches, and now that she has studied many of them she has integrated them into her own practice of medicine. She is the co-creator of a community meeting called coExistence where inspiring speakers share their wisdom to improve people’s lives.
