Goebbels 101: America's New State-Controlled Media01 Mar 202500:25:31

Let’s blow a kiss to democracy—that fragile, battered thing, held together by the desperate hope that facts still matter and that the loudest voice in the room isn’t always the most unhinged. But here we are, in the age of the new court scribes, where the jesters get front-row seats in the palace and call themselves journalists. The so-called "new media" isn’t reporting so much as genuflecting, regurgitating the talking points of the powers that be like a well-trained parrot, minus the charm.

To help us untangle this media labyrinth, we have the reporter who brought this issue to public attention, Anna Merlan, senior reporter at Mother Jones covering disinformation, technology, and extremism. She was previously a senior reporter at Vice and Gizmodo Media Group, was also on staff at the Village Voice and the Dallas Observer. (She's frequently covered conspiracy theories, actual conspiracies, sexual violence, scams, cults, crime, politics, and new religious movements). Merlan’s also the author of the book Republic of Lies: American Conspiracy Theorists and Their Surprising Rise to Power. Her latest in Mother Jones is entitled ‘Meet the New State Media: How the second Trump administration grants access and status to conspiracy theorists, propagandists, and far-right influencers.

Meanwhile, Let’s highlight one such creature …

a Mr. Jack Posobiec, once an internet clown barking about satanic pizza parlors run by Hillary Clinton, now finds himself rubbing elbows with cabinet members, striding through the halls of power - as though he didn’t build his career in the sewer of conspiracy theories. The man who couldn’t string together a coherent thought without plagiarizing white nationalists, is now getting invites from the Secretary of Defense. A beautiful moment in the great decline.

But, of course, he’s not alone. There’s an entire flotilla of sycophants being ushered into the White House press room under the sainted banner of "new media," a term stretched so thin it now includes Breitbart and influencers whose main qualification is being able to hold a camera steady while yelling, “Legacy media!” Members of mainstream media, those sorry b******s who spent years trying to report the news, are now being told to sit in the back. Or better yet, like the AP…. get out entirely unless they’re willing to call the Gulf of Mexico by its new, government-approved name, the "Gulf of America."

And so we have state-sponsored media without the inconvenience of state control. A press corps – or corpse - that doesn’t need to be coerced into compliance because they’re already eager to grovel and kiss the ring. But is this really new? Or have we just traded one flavor of propaganda for another?

Behind-the-scenes we see Brendan Carr, the newly-appointed chair of the Federal Communications Commission…. waging a war on the legacy news media and the administration’s quest to destroy freedom of the press and the First Amendment. Carr announced an investigation into the diversity, equity and inclusion policies of Comcast and NBCUniversal, and now NBCUniversal’s MSNBC channel has sucked upward its last-remaining testicle and has fired everyone that might require darker make up to fit their natural skin tone.

Authoritarianism Surges In Europe & US01 Mar 202500:25:30

Now, you’d think a man with a thirst for foreign lands, degrees from London’s finest institutions, and fluent in multiple languages would have the good sense to find a tropical island and hide out there. But, reporters are reporters and showing up is part of the hardwiring. He’s reported from the beating heart of London, the sun-soaked charm of Morocco, and the synthetic dreamland here in Hollywood, where reality is a suggestion and history gets rewritten with better lighting… similar to many governments, these days. And now, it seems, German history doesn’t just repeat—it occasionally tries to form a coalition government. And it seems to have a first cousin in Washington DC with the same goals and aspirations. Fascism is blooming like a genetically-modified periwinkle and cactus hybrid.

In Frankfurt Germany is Jan Tüssing with AFD Germany public radio. Over the years I’ve gotten to know him very well – meeting first at Sundance and witnessing his world in Germany, from personal coaching and media training to helping people as a therapist. One of the savviest commentators on history with a keen perspective that is meticulously focused and a great credit to the last remaining of us in this Musk-clobbered business. We discuss what’s unfolding here in the United States and the fast redrawing of the post World War II alliance map to favor the reboot of a vast Russian Empire with quid pro quo cash and prizes for the (quite literal) Oval Office brokers in this art of a deal.

We’d all like to think that much of the nation was gobsmacked by the public dressdown of Zelensky in the Oval - like kicking a collie immobilized with a broken leg. Donald Trump is reportedly furious that so many European leaders are pledging enough support, money, and arms for Ukraine to sideline him completely, and was overheard shouting to his staffers, "This is supposed to be MY deal, and MY Nobel Peace Prize!" Unfathomable how the Red Lobster thinks that rebooting the Russian Empire for a a quid pro quo transaction of $1 trillion in mineral rights on the backs of 400,000 dead Ukrainians earns him the Nobel peace prize.

Swastikas and Guns Surge In Germany

But we’re not alone. Germany’s just gone ahead and reminded us all, that bad ideas never really die … they just get better branding. Swastikas and brown shirts again march the streets across eastern Germany. We explore the playbook of the new German government that seems in lockstep with Mr. Vance and Musk’s vision for a new world order.

Will the Democrats rise up like a tidal wave? Will even one of them arise off a flattened scrotum and swish the air with a plastic fork? While reasonable Germans have been flooding the streets by the hundreds of thousands in righteous protest of fascism, Americans have, indeed, been sending thousands of letters, calls, and emails to overwhelm their congressional Democrats as leader Hakim Jeffries reminds his team to stand down and be supplicating fascist-fluffers. Is this history repeating itself with our own version of Vichy governance?

As LA Fire Conspiracy Theories Multiply...17 Jan 202500:49:55

Cary Harrison is you-supported. As the FCC looks to kill-off public radio, please become a free or paid subscriber to maintain our full spectrum of information.

During today's morning drive, we delivered a list of active, often outrageous conspiracy theories connected to the most expensive natural disaster in all of US history. While most contain more than one kernel of truth, some are physically impossible, while others, in light of the incoming administration, appear oddly like shadowy policy moves.

[Below you will see Cary’s entire list of active LA fires conspiracy theories]

Sometimes it's easiest to lay out preposterosity in the simple language and single-strand brain patterns of our new president, Donald J Trump. This was sent to me on WhatsApp earlier today by Joey, an English listener, who went for a pithy insight into appalling lampoon. This British “cousin” is somehow able to channel our vaunted president weeks before He will utter the same things:

“I feel like I've been struggling to really channel him with the same accuracy or creative flair that I've used in past ones. This latest one was at least accurate in reflecting the depth of his understanding of genetics - what genes are and where you get them from. I'm so glad he's back in charge.

America is sick right now and it really needs a President who understands science and medicine. You'll be well equipped to handle the next pandemic because you'll be able to eliminate the virus by injecting bleach, drinking a pint of hydroxychloroquine or blasting high strength UV into the airways that's intense enough to reach the surface of every alveoli pocket and then it will be, like, totally beautiful.

You know, COVID could've been so good, so good - no problems, back to normal - but the Democrats created that totally ineffective and dangerous vaccine that actually, if you really think about it, actually killed maybe even more Americans - hardworking Middle Class Americans - _Christians_. But it's true - a lot of very smart and very brilliant people are saying that actually the vaccine - which people were forced to take against the Constitution - really, the vaccine killed more people even than the China Virus that it was supposed to cure. And a lot of people don't know this but virus - the Wuhan Flu - it was actually released from a military lab in a little place known as Wuhan Province - total dump. Don't go there. It's almost like a s**t hole country, quite frankly - but it was released on the direct orders of Ping Pong the Emperor with the intent to destroy America - and it would have totally failed if it weren't for the Democrats and Joe Biden.

Right now America is, like, totally broke and we're really, really we're like a third world country. Other countries are totally killing us - they're killing us, they're _raping_ us - and they're laughing at us because they think we're weak. Well they won't be laughing on Jan 20th, folks, because we're going to make them pay back everything they owe with a little thing called a "tariffs". Maybe it's the most beautiful word in the dictionary and if you look it up, what it means is that other countries are going to pay us, really, a lot of money - maybe 60 or 70% - so they can import their worthless junk into America. Our enemies will pay and our allies are going to have to pay too. And that's going to make Americans, like, totally rich.”

List of active LA fires conspiracy theories:

First, we delve into conspiracy theory number one: the world of DEWs… or Directed Energy Weapons, the exotic imagination that implies lasers from the sky, akin to war gadgets meddling where they shouldn't. While some claim they have reared their fiery heads and left behind scorched landscapes with suspicious precision, common sense—unmoved by the flair of dramatics—points to nature's unpredictable hand, with winds and dry brush as more logical culprits. Proponents of this theory claim that the wildfires were caused by DEWs, which are advanced technologies that can create intense heat or energy beams. They point to unusual burn patterns, such as:

* Uniformly burned areas, suggesting a precise and controlled energy source

* Burned trees with no apparent ignition source

* Melted metal and other materials, indicating extremely high temperatures

Some theorize that DEWs were used to start or exacerbate the fires, possibly as part of a larger experiment or to achieve a specific goal. In a few minutes, let’s open up the phone lines and HERE the conspiracy theories your hearing about or if you think some of these are actually true!

Here's Conspiracy theory number two: LA’s published Smart City Project

This theory posits that LA's Smart City project, which aims to integrate technology and data analytics to improve city services, is connected to the wildfires. Some claim that the project's infrastructure, such as:

* Smart meters and sensors, could be used to start or exacerbate the fires

* Data analytics and AI could be used to predict and manipulate the spread of the fires

* The project's focus on sustainability and environmental monitoring could be a cover for more sinister activities

Yet, there is no evidence to suggest that the Smart City project is capable of starting or controlling fires. The project's goals and technologies are publicly available, and experts confirm that the infrastructure is designed for benign purposes like energy efficiency and traffic management. Yet, tens of thousands of people now say it’s actually a covert e-pyro-maniac, igniting flames of chaos with each digital pulse and not meant to improve, but incinerate.

Next, we encounter conspiracy theory number three…the specter of the UN’s Agenda 21—the whisper that rattles in certain circles suggesting a plot to clear our lands for modern utopias. Speculated are the fires as a meddlesome means to push humans towards dense communal habitats. The Agenda 21 theory suggests that the wildfires are part of a larger agenda to implement the United Nations' Agenda 21, which aims to promote sustainable development and reduce urban sprawl. Some believe that the fires are being used to:

* Clear land for new development projects or high-density housing

* Force people out of their homes and into more densely populated areas

* Create a sense of urgency and crisis, allowing for the implementation of Agenda 21's principles

In reality, Agenda 21 is a non-binding and voluntary agreement, and there is no evidence to suggest that it is being used to justify or orchestrate the wildfires. The agenda's principles focus on sustainable development, not forced relocation or land clearance. But, who’s used to say what “Forced” means?

Consider conspiracy theory number four – climate engineering's …. Or chemtrail’s ghost, haunting yet another chamber of the mind. A serious of nefarious experiments by scientists play out, twisting clouds to wreak flaming havoc. With Climate Engineering, Some theorize that the wildfires are a result of climate engineering experiments gone wrong. They claim that scientists are manipulating the weather using techniques like geoengineering, which involves injecting substances into the atmosphere to alter weather patterns.

* Some point to the presence of unusual cloud formations or atmospheric phenomena as evidence of climate engineering

* Others claim that the wildfires are a result of accidental or intentional manipulation of the weather

Yet, there is no credible evidence to support the claim that climate engineering is responsible for the wildfires. Geoengineering is a highly debated and controversial topic, and most experts agree that it is real…. but not currently being used to manipulate the weather on a large scale.

Conspiracy theory number five: Arson by Government or Corporate Agents

This theory posits that the wildfires were intentionally started by government or corporate agents to:

* Clear land for development or resource extraction

* Create a false flag event to justify increased surveillance or control

* Distract from other news or events

* Generate profits for companies involved in firefighting or reconstruction efforts

The causes of the wildfires are still under investigation, but experts attribute them to natural factors like drought, heat, and wind. That’s not to say that there aren’t 1 million developers, realtors, and corporate people who haven’t fantasized about this kind of opportunity. We only need to look back to hurricane Katrina – a disaster of epic proportions, a hurricane that ravaged the Gulf Coast, leaving destruction and devastation in its wake. Hurricane Katrina, one of the deadliest and costliest natural disasters in American history now surpassed an extraordinary numbers by the LA wildfires.

But in the aftermath of Katrina, something else unfolded, a story of corruption, of cronyism, of no-bid contracts and corporate greed.

Halliburton, the energy giant, the company once led by none other than Dick Cheney, the Vice President of the United States. Cheney, the man who had once been the CEO of Halliburton, the man who still had ties to the company, even as he served in the Bush administration. That was considered shocking and today the president of the United States owns giant hotel chains, sell sneakers, swag and merch and his government leader to shrink the size of government has contracts woven throughout the same federal government including NASA, the world’s global communication satellite systems, and pretty much everything with a chip and a signal.

But back then, it was an obvious and appalling conflict of interest when Halliburton's subsidiary, Kellogg Brown & Root, was awarded a no-bid contract for debris removal and cleanup services in the aftermath of Katrina. A contract worth over half a billion dollars.

But this was no ordinary contract. It was a deal that sparked outrage, that sparked controversy, that sparked investigations. Investigations that revealed the contract was awarded without proper competition, without proper transparency.

The Government Accountability Office, the Congressional Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, they all looked into this deal, and they all came to the same conclusion: this was a contract that reeked of favoritism, of corruption.

And the cost overruns, the performance issues, they only added to the scandal. The Pentagon's Inspector General found that Halliburton had overbilled the government by millions, that they had failed to meet their contractual obligations.

This was a deal that smelled of rot, of corruption, of corporate greed. And it's a deal that should never be forgotten, a deal that should serve as a reminder of the dangers of no-bid contracts, of cronyism, of corporate influence in government. And now the government has become Mussolini’s wet dream and is truly the perfect intertwining of corporation and government as a single swamp creature with enormous appetites.

Let’s now jump to conspiracy theory number six: Smart Meter Fires

Some claim that smart meters, which are part of LA's Smart City project, can cause fires due to electrical malfunctions or overheating. They point to instances of smart meters catching fire or exploding as evidence.

However, experts confirm that smart meters are designed with multiple safety features to prevent overheating and electrical malfunctions. While it is possible for smart meters to malfunction, there’s no evidence to suggest that they are a significant contributor to the wildfires.

5G, riding on waves of anxiety, faces finger-pointing as well. Accused of radiating wildfires to life, the tale lacks bite as science sits unshakeably on its throne, undeterred by fear. 5G and EMF

Some theorize that the rollout of 5G networks and the increased electromagnetic frequency (EMF) radiation are contributing to the wildfires. They claim that EMF can:

* Ignite fires or exacerbate existing ones

* Disrupt natural processes and create an environment conducive to wildfires

Still, there is no scientific evidence to support the claim that EMF radiation from 5G networks is contributing to the wildfires. We’re told that the radiation levels from 5G networks are well within safe limits and do not pose a fire hazard – maybe a surveillance hazard and an eyesore hazard, but who knows.

Conspiracy theory number eight: Weather Warfare

This theory suggests that the wildfires are a result of weather warfare, where advanced technologies are used to manipulate the weather and create extreme events like wildfires. Some point to:

* Unusual weather patterns or storms as evidence of weather manipulation

* The presence of unusual cloud formations or atmospheric phenomena

Somehow missing is the conspiracy to sell the public on fossil fuels as an innocent and benign, permanently necessary way of life. I remember interviewing Al Roker a few years ago and asked him why he never, never ever ever ever ever mentioned climate change. He said, "well, I work for General Electric".

Conspiracy theory number nine: Insurance and Financial Gain

Some conspiracy theorists believe that the wildfires were started or exacerbated to generate profits for insurance companies or to create a financial windfall for those involved in reconstruction efforts, as was truly an undeniably the case for Dick Cheney’s companies during Katrina. At this point, investigations have not found any evidence of arson or intentional firestarting for financial gain. The causes of the wildfires are still under investigation, but experts attribute them to natural factors like drought, heat, and wind.

And finally, before we go to the phones, conspiracy theory number 10 😊 Depopulation Agenda

A more extreme theory posits that the wildfires are part of a larger depopulation agenda, aimed at reducing the global population or forcing people out of certain areas. Some claim that the fires are being used to:

* Clear land for new development projects or to create a sense of urgency and crisis

* Force people out of their homes and into more densely populated areas

* Create a sense of fear and panic, allowing for the implementation of depopulation policies

This seems almost the worst too contemplate - the extraordinarily bleak possibility of a Depopulation Agenda—fires as dreadful scythes in a cosmic populace harvest. The closest we may see to evidence of that will be the willfull destruction of Obama care, privatization of remaining municipal utilities, oil Derek on every US beach, condos in protected parks, removal of EPA, OSHA, consumer protection agencies, and ironically the legacy of one Richard Millhouse Nixon.

Noah Lenard, lead immigration reporter for Mother Jones Magazine, joins us to discuss the shifting politics of Latino voters in Los Angeles. With a recent presidential election showing a 40% shift towards Trump in Southeast Los Angeles, Lenard explores the complexities of this phenomenon and what it means for the future of the Democratic Party.

Key Takeaways

* Working-class Latino voters in Southeast Los Angeles are increasingly drawn to the GOP, despite Trump's inflammatory rhetoric.

* Affluent, educated voters in Los Angeles are sticking with the Democrats, while working-class Asian and Latino voters are shifting to the GOP.

* The economy and job security are key factors in this shift, with voters hoping Trump will bring back the economy of four years ago.

* There is a growing awareness among voters of the complexities of immigration policy and the need for a more nuanced approach.

Special Live Wildfires Coverage

by Cary Harrison

Apologies for my voice but it’s torn by smoke. I’m certainly not the only one. In just a few minutes, I’m gonna open up the phones because it’s critical that you be heard during this time of horrific disaster. I’m want you to be able to resonate with your neighbors, offer information as you know it, and most importantly… Know that you are not alone. These fires don’t seem to want to stop. LA's densely populated urban landscape including miles of chaparral and dry eucalyptus trees…. also includes flammable material with hanging power cables, a city landscaped with wooden telephone poles going back to the 1920s….and homes built with wood …. wood… to satisfy earthquake codes. Then, you add in the bone dry, low humidity, and high temperature Santa Ana winds to fan wildfires… all blowing over the hilltops and down through the canyons.

The concept of the complete loss of the Pacific Palisades is unthinkable. While The remains of the Palisades look like Vesuvius, thankfully, we have minimal loss of life. We've been fighting a wildfire with urban water systems – corner fire hydrants and people attempting to use garden hoses. It's not that there’s not enough water here in Southern California; it's that there's not enough water in any given area for the several hours that you need it to saturate fires.

The devastating wildfires in Los Angeles have claimed at least 10 lives, destroyed hundreds of buildings, and forced nearly 180,000 residents to evacuate. Despite the efforts of thousands of firefighters, the biggest blazes remain uncontained, with weather conditions and climate change expected to fan the flames for days to come.

In LA County, 179,000 people are under evacuation orders, with another 200,000 on alert. More than 10,000 buildings have been razed, with 60,000 more at risk. Insured losses are expected to exceed $30 billion.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of starting a new fire, but the causes of the original fires remain unknown. National Guard troops have been deployed to prevent looting, with 20 arrests made so far.

The fires have also affected celebrities, including Mel Gibson, Leighton Meester, and Adam Brody, who have lost their homes.

Fire officials are battling five major fires, including the Palisades and Eaton fires, which have scorched nearly 20,000 acres and 14,000 acres respectively.

Questions are being raised about the city's preparedness for the fires, with some firefighters reporting hoses ran dry. Mayor Karen Bass has faced intense questioning about her leadership and the water issues. Meanwhile, KTLA reports there’s a camp set up in Brookside Park in Pasadena that’s feeding people, getting donations and telling anyone who needs anything to come on down.

The Wildfires ravaging Southern California, are fueled by high winds and dry conditions. But experts say climate change is the underlying factor, increasing the likelihood of these devastating blazes. The Southern California fires are a perfect storm of natural and human-induced factors. High winds, known as Santa Ana winds, are blowing at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour, drying out the land and spreading the flames. But researchers say climate change is altering the background conditions, making these fires more likely and more intense. Lack of rain in recent months, following a very warm summer have brought dry conditions that have created a tinderbox of shrubs and trees - perfect fuel for fires. A warming climate makes it more difficult to forecast the likelihood of landslides Which can happen as a result of sudden tree loss through burning.

Ep. 71: AI: Promise Or Peril? | Behind The Mass Killings04 Jan 202500:55:21

The Double-Edged Sword: AI's Reckoning and the Human Folly

by Cary Harrison

In the labyrinth of modern civilization, there emerges a paradoxical juggernaut poised to topple our quaint human conceits—the double-edged sword of Artificial Intelligence. It is a peculiar creation, conceived by the hubristic hands of humankind, for purposes that oscillate between benign ambitions and sinister possibilities. And within its steely depths, it holds a mirror to our psyche, reflecting both our illuminated lofts and our murky abysses.

A Brave New World

Harrison casts a discerning eye on the contradictions inherent in our embrace of this new frontier. AI, in its grandeur, promises to revolutionize medicine and industry, to unburden our flesh strangled by the mundane, to alleviate souls tethered by toil. And yet, beneath this gilded veneer lies the grim specter of obsolescence, where the very architects of these technological wonders risk becoming relics of their own making.

The Harrowing Dilemma

On one hand, AI beckons with the siren call of a utopia—a world where diseases are vanquished, and poverty vanishes into the ether. On the other, it looms as a Goliath, poised to strip away the individuality and agency that define our species. It is the age-old quandary of master versus servant, an inquiry into whether we shall command these silicon behemoths or cower under their unyielding logic.

The Pendulum of Impact

Ever the provocateur, I engage with Jeff Michael Fishback, a polymath in the realm of forensic technology. Fishback articulates a tempered optimism, championing the benefits AI might bestow—life-saving alerts whispered from AI-infused spectacles, auguries of health conveyed with diligence and discretion. Yet, the discussion veers towards the disquieting possibility of AI running amok, untethered by the moral and ethical considerations that bind mere mortals.

Whither Humanity?

Through the veneer of confidence and assured prose, lurks an unsettling thought: do we, in our zeal for progress, inadvertently craft a future that diminishes our very humanity? It is a question unworthy of facile answers, yet gnawing at the intellect of every thinking creature. For as we stand at the precipice of this brave new world, the decision rests not in wires and circuits but in the faltering hands of those who birthed this mechanical offshoot.

The dialogue concludes, not with a solution, but with an admonition—an entreaty to wrest control from the machinations of corporate titans who would prioritize the stock ledger over the ledger of human morality. The future, Harrison insists, is not preordained. It is ours to craft, to nurture, and to preserve against the caustic currents of shortsighted ambition.

In the end, one truth looms clear: AI's story is as much about human folly as it is about technological triumph, a narrative fraught with the frailty and fortitude of its progenitors. And that, dear reader, is a saga Wirt of both admiration and admonition, demanding unabated vigilance and unrelenting humility.

Rethinking Heroes: Killing CEOs and why the public is generally unsympathetic.

Ah, the cacophony of modern life, where earnest souls strive to weave order amid the loquacious chaos. As thinkers and doers alike hustle through the kaleidoscope of media distractions, a discerning few pause to scrutinize the shadows cast by towering institutions—those corporate monoliths that dwarf mundane street miscreants. In the vaudeville of American civilization, is it not the height of folly to treat the crimes of the destitute with the iron hand of retribution, while excusing the genteel depredations of our economic overlords?

Thus unfolds our critical conversation—a tête-à-tête shared between the esteemed Professor Anthony Grosso. Professor Grosso, with stately aplomb, brings forth the dichotomy of our justice system, captured within the pages of his latest, Dual Justice: America's Divergent Approaches to Street and Corporate Crime. A title as poised as our fabled lady justice, and as blind, it seems.

If one were to traverse the labyrinthine alleys of American culture, one would discern the messianic zeal with which we persecute street crime. The youth, driven by desperation, lash out as their starkly limited world offers no solace. Yet, in our social theaters, it is not the scallywag with empty coffers but the magnate with a gilded ledger who commands a sympathetic bow—or sometimes none at all.

Ah, but the wheel of fortune turns, and with it the rhetoric of political demagogues, who skillfully manipulate the proletariat, turning neighbor against neighbor, immigrant against native, in this Hobbesian state we call democracy. The great irony remains untouched: while the rhetoric of "Make America Great Again" resounds like tinny music on a broken hurdy-gurdy, the true architects of our malaise—the barons of industry—govern unchecked, their machinations scandalously ensconced within the legal folios of corporate America.

As I reflect upon this, the European model of welfare and camaraderie breezes by, a sweet zephyr in a desert of dysfunction. The middle class—ah, remember them?—go about their lives without the existential dread of falling through life's cracks. Symphonies play under the open sky while Americans, hand firmly on wallet, rarely catch sight of the stars for fear of thieves.

But what, then, of solutions? Shall we, the humble constituents of this great unravel, merely bemoan the state of the world, echoing Cicero in the twilight of the Roman Republic? Professor Grosso suggests instead a governance like that of a maestro over symphonic chaos—a regulatory ethos applied equally to street ruffians and suited sycophants, sculpting a society where prosperities are shared and punishments are equitably meted.

As the Professor departs, the resonance of his words lingers in our collective conscience—a siren call to reimagine justice not as a tool of division but as a scaffold of societal harmony. And thus, I offer my own farewell with the hope that this parley ignites a morsel of thought in your minds—the seed of revolution not in arms, but in ideas.

Next week, dear reader, as you sit within the confines of your self-driving vehicle, traversing the veritable odyssey that is Los Angeles traffic, perhaps you'll ponder these notions from afar and conceive of a world less divided, less fraught, and infinitely more just. Until we meet again on the waves of "Rethinking Heroes," sign up for our newsletter (RethinkingHeroes.com), an invitation to explore further into the heart of this most wondrous, pitiful experiment in governance.

Ep. 65: Fmr. Soviet Bloc Students on Freedom 18 Oct 202400:57:28

From Los Angeles…

Rethinking Heroes with Cary Harrison: Two 12th-graders show sage understanding of books, academics, brains, and a bold future - if they’re allowed to have it!

We often think of heroes as established figures with a lasting impact. However, history shows that many heroes have been young people who risked everything for an uncertain future. Today, as freedom hangs in the balance, we confront the perils of our time: dictatorships rising in the east and west, propaganda, and lost civil rights - an unholy trinity threatening humanity's progress.

So, what is dictatorship? It's rule by fear, where one person's power overrides the people's voice. A single entity dictates truth, silencing dissent and opposition.

What is propaganda? Manipulated information spreading like wildfire, fueling hatred and dividing nations. Does this sound familiar?

And what's at stake? Your civil rights: fundamental freedoms dwindling, leaving vulnerability in their wake. Speech suppressed, assembly restricted, equality eroded.

From Eastern autocracies to Western democracies in decline, warning signs are flashing red. The danger is real, pervasive, and escalating.

But remarkably, many young people refuse to surrender. They're rising against oppression, uniting for freedom, and reclaiming their inherent rights. They champion truth, defend dissent, and demand accountability.

Notably, many of these young heroes are from former Soviet bloc countries, where education remains a valued tool that empowers everyone - knowledge. Unlike in some US states, where governors like Ron DeSantis have restricted history, banned over 1,000 books, and made being gay a felony, alongside discussions of climate change.

What's the difference between these governments and Putin's Moscow? It seems there are more similarities than differences.

We'll explore these perils, expose their roots, and examine a united front against tyranny. These students believe the future of our world depends on it.

I've had the privilege of teaching critical thinking and media literacy in Switzerland to exceptional students at Institut Montana in Zug. One of these students, from Lithuania, connected her school with us to discuss the world's realities on public radio. Lithuania, situated in the heart of the former Soviet bloc, surrounded by Russia and Ukraine, has recently experienced fascism, dictatorship, and authoritarianism.

Hearing from these young minds offers a fresh perspective, untainted by corporate media biases. Please welcome 18-year-old Atėnė Goštautaitė, a senior high school student. She is one of the founders of her school's writing club and represented Lithuania in Germany through the prestigious PAD exchange program, where she joined students from over 80 countries.

Atėnė's accomplishments include participating in Erasmus programs focused on ecology and culture. She speaks English, Lithuanian, and German and has studied business and entrepreneurship. Additionally, she has been a dedicated dancer for 12 years.

Joining Atėnė is 18-year-old Nojus Mačulis, also a 12th grader in Lithuania. Nojus is passionate about finance and economics and founded his school's finance and investing course, paving the way for his future studies in economics. Beyond academics, he enjoys reading novels, playing basketball, and competing in track and field.

Nojus is also committed to community service, volunteering at a local homeless shelter and helping organize TEDxYouth for his school.

Ep. 61: Why Some Americans Love Authoritarianism & Open Phones07 Sep 202400:54:33

From Los Angeles…

Rethinking Heroes: Why Some Americans Love Authoritarianism

Well, today we embark on a journey through the annals of what I shall refer to as the "Traitor's Path." A meandering trek that some Americans seem alarmingly eager to undertake, often driven by the irresistible allure of authoritarianism. As we wade through these murky waters, let us marvel at the sheer caprice of human nature and the fallacies that lead men to betray their kind in pursuit of what can only be described as fleeting illusions.

Picture it: our nation, envisioned as a beacon of liberty and justice, has its very fabric tested by the temptations of despotism. Indeed, my own family's lineage contains within it the dichotomy that represents our national struggle. On my mother's side, an illustrious connection to Abraham Lincoln, the liberator and emancipator. On my father's side, a sordid history of slavers, bound to the whims of English royalty dating back to 1640. Another illustrious figure, one shrouded in infamy—Benedict Arnold—lies nestled in my maternal genealogy, a man whose treachery is both famous and instructive.

Arnold fought initially on the side of George Washington, striving, as did many colonialists, against the perceived tyranny of British rule. Yet, financial woes and an unpaid Congress nudged him into the debtor's prison that England so gleefully maintained. Abruptly, Arnold shifted allegiances, his motivations quintessentially mercenary, to save his own neck. This man was branded a villain for generations, and deservedly so.

Oh, the ease with which necessity transforms into treachery! But let us not conflate necessity with the whimsy and malevolent desires that fuel today's traitors. Enter the modern-day fluffer—an individual steeped in opportunistic duplicity. The betrayal here reeks more pungently than any historical turncoat could muster. Think of the gay individual, once an advocate for Joe Biden, now espousing the bizarre assertions of Bobby Kennedy Jr., only to later supplicate before the altars of Trumpism.

What greets him? Not the inclusivity and humane progressive stance one might expect—but rather a perilous flirtation with far-right dogma. For Trump has promised, openly, to enact the largest deportation in American history—a cantankerous echo of authoritarian regimes past.

So, why do ordinary people with ordinary lives embrace fascist ideologies? The answer lies deep within the complexities of human nature, manipulated by those who prey on fears and desires. The promise of stability amid chaos, the allure of simple solutions to intricate problems—these are the serpent's whispers that lead men astray. The nostalgic rhapsody of "Make America Great Again!" offers not a concrete temporal vision but a mirage, a fantastical past where systemic oppression reigned unchallenged.

Yet, herein lies the most terrifying transformation. The ordinary man, seeking security, sacrificing individuality, autonomy, and freedom—evokes memories of the post-9/11 panic that birthed the Patriot Act, a legislation that stripped away fundamental liberties in the name of safety. The creeping return to monarchical rule, replete with overbearing surveillance—Ashcroft’s vile concoction.

Stooping lower yet, consider the self-deluded—those who genuinely drink from the cauldron of fascist ideology, believers in the false promises of tomorrow. They are oblivious to the harm they incur, the lives they dismantle, for their joy is short-lived, and the infamy eternal. The essence of their actions is driven by fear—fear of the unknown, of change, of being left behind.

But fear shall not prevail, not today. Not here. Not now.

Stand firm against the fascists, reclaim empathy and compassion. Understand that the traitor's path is one of self-deception that can indeed be halted. America's educational erosion since the early 1900s, a deliberate manipulation designed to keep the populace quiescent and non-questioning, has only exacerbated this plight.

Contrary to the divisive narratives, we must offer a different vision—a narrative that is compassionate and humane. Remember that the framing of our Constitution and the Declaration of Independence are not relics of 1776 but alive and pertinent today.

In our media-driven world, now more than ever, we must ensure that the airwaves serve us—the people—and not the corporate overlords. Let us recapture the media as a force for good, as a tool for enlightenment, rendering not empty noise but informed and insightful discourse.

So, dear reader, I call on you to join this conversation, to share your thoughts, to participate actively in shaping a media landscape that serves democracy, justice, and truth.

As we ponder this broad spectrum of betrayal and attraction to authoritarianism, remember our charge is eternal—to fight for a world that values liberty and equity, where the media is ours, and the future is worth fighting for.

Join us, call in, share, and be heard.

Here’s to rethinking heroes, rethinking America.

Ep. 60: 10 Pillars of Fascism | Tidal Wave of New Voters31 Aug 202400:48:14

From Los Angeles, Rethinking Heroes with Cary Harrison - Rethinking Heroes: Unmasking the Machinations of Modern Fascism. Yale professor Jason Stanley, delves into the tactics of modern fascism and its impact on history and education. The discussion covers the manipulation of historical narratives by authoritarian regimes, the role of education in fostering or suppressing critical thought, and how today's political landscapes echo past fascist movements. They also discuss the current legal battles against censorship and the importance of acknowledging America's historical contradictions. Furthermore, former presidential candidate Jason Palmer shares his ambitious plan to register a million new young voters, leveraging technology and the influence of college athletes. This episode serves as a call to action to stay informed and fight against the distortion of history and encroaching authoritarianism.

The War on History: Erasing and Manipulating the Past

Today, we’re tackling how authoritarian regimes, especially fascist movements, manipulate history to consolidate their grip on power. If you’ve read Orwell's "1984," you’re in for a ride through the twisted machinery that masks and distorts reality.

Why Rewriting History is a Fascist Staple

Yale professor, Jason Stanley, today's intellectual powerhouse, explains it all. Authoritarians love a singular, mythical narrative. It simplifies the mind and makes people easier to control. They dismantle varied accounts of history, suppress dissent, and enforce a unified story—one that supports their agenda and marginalizes all others.

The Silent Genocide and the Erasure of Oppression

Take the Holocaust, for example. Soviet regimes didn't acknowledge it, fearing that once one genocide was recognized, others might be too. Fast forward to today, and history is under siege—some presidential hopefuls are crafting "MAGA histories" that entangle the truth in such propaganda it’s laughable, yet devastatingly effective.

Fascist Tactics in Today's Political Landscape

Stanley doesn’t sugarcoat it—today's fascists aim to divide and conquer by exploiting racial, religious, and sexual differences. They paint a mythical past and use propaganda to justify racial and religious hierarchies. Despite their efforts, true history—people's lived experiences—can’t be completely erased. Families who lost loved ones to COVID, for instance, know the reality, regardless of the political spin.

The Link Between Authoritarianism and Today's Education

One of the hot topics? Education. Across the U.S., particularly in states like Florida, there's an ongoing battle over what's taught in schools. Admitting climate change or acknowledging the humanity of LGBTQ individuals has become a criminal act in some areas. The fascists' playbook includes suppressing critical thought and rewriting curricula to foster obedient followers—a grim echo of regimes past.

The Role of Corporations and Legal Battles

It's a twisted irony that big corporations are now some of the loudest opponents of these fascist strategies. Major book publishers have taken a stand against censorship, suing states that ban books and ideas from schools and public libraries. Corporations, once the problem, are now part of the resistance—delicious paradox, indeed.

Jason Stanley: Knowledge as an Arm Against Authoritarianism

Stanley argues that knowledge alone isn't a safeguard against fascism. Some of history’s sharpest minds were fascists themselves, using their intellect to wield power ruthlessly. Thus, it's not just about education but what kind of education and to what end.

America's Historical Paradoxes

Harrison dives into America's founding sins—slavery, manifest destiny, genocides. Facing history head-on is crucial. America can’t shy away from its past; confronting it is the only path to genuine progress and democracy.

The Future of History and Education

Harrison and Stanley spell out the future if figures like Trump reclaim power: education becomes a tool for nationalistic ego-stroking rather than democratic enlightenment. Public schools could turn into breeding grounds for blind patriotism rather than nurturing critical, informed citizens.

Meet Jason Palmer: The Maverick Who’s Mobilizing Gen Z to Save America

Palmer isn't your cookie-cutter politician spouting the same old tired rhetoric. This guy, a former Democratic presidential candidate, isn’t just sitting on his thumbs. He’s made headlines and charged into the political fray with a victory in American Samoa, no less. Now, you might think, "Big whoop, what’s next?" Jason’s got a plan that puts most political folks to shame. He's creating partnerships in over a thousand schools and 300 colleges, teaching kids how to dissect the media blob, and telling them what's real, what's not, and how it's all glued together with propaganda.

Empowering the Future Voters

Palmer talks about running the gauntlet against polarization. He’s endorsed 18 young, vibrant candidates, with an average age of 38. These aren’t your typical, stuck-in-the-mud politicians. Half are Democrats, half are Republicans, with a sprinkling of Independents who, just maybe, have a shot in hell of winning. The aim here is to take Congress back from the lunatic fringe, the crazies, and put it in the hands of younger, tech-savvy people who might actually get something done. Imagine that, Congress filled with folks who know how to turn on a computer without their kid showing them.

No More Partisan Nonsense

Harrison chimes in, happy that Palmer is bridging this chasmic divide between Democrats and Republicans. And why shouldn’t he? There was a time, not too long ago, when Republicans stood for something other than chaos and incompetence. Sure, they weren't perfect, but at least they weren't trying to stage a damn coup d'état. Cary’s heartening message here is bipartisan hope—good people on both sides who know if America goes to the dogs, they're going with it.

The Youth Revolution: Rooted in Technology

Palmer, being the dapper entrepreneur he is, heads back to his roots. Jason isn’t just talking the talk; he's walking the walk. Working with young entrepreneurs, investing in their mission-driven companies, and leveraging his political failures to catalyze real change, his guerrilla tactics might just be the thing we need to bust through this political quagmire. It’s about leveraging technology, using athletes from college campuses to promote voter registration in ways that are fresh, modern, and yes, tech-savvy.

Common Issues, Uncommon Solutions

Let's talk issues that matter to Gen Z because, unlike the crusty old politicians, they’ve got their priorities straight. Palmer lists five key issues: climate change, gun violence, affordable higher education, and the elusive promise of a good first job. Gun violence and climate change, topics often dismissed by the older generation, are at the top of their concerns. Why? Because while grandpa is arguing about the good old days, these young souls are doing active shooter drills at school. Nice way to say, "Welcome to adulthood," huh?

Parents and Gen Z: United by Fear and Hope

What really ties the bow on this is the involvement of parents. They’re vested in this struggle too—you bet your ass they are. When they think about the future, they're not just thinking about their retirements but also about the safety and prospects of their kids. Your support can make this happen, not just for Gen Z, but for the collective future we all share.

Visit Together, Palmer’s initiative, togetherpurple.org. Let’s bring the red and blue together—mix it up, shake it around, and create something truly transformative. Because if we don't, well, we might as well sit back and watch the whole circus burn to the ground. And let's face it, nobody wants to roast marshmallows over that kind of fire.

Ep. 59: Supreme Court: Presidential Crime OK06 Jul 202400:59:39

From Los Angeles, Rethinking Heroes with Cary Harrison presents an eye-opening discussion on the recent Supreme Court ruling that grants unprecedented powers of immunity to the sitting President of the United States. This episode dives deep into the implications of the court’s decision, featuring viewpoints from experts in the field, including Professor Francis Boyle, a renowned International Law professor at the University of Illinois and widely published author and globally-recognized legal scholar.

Exploring the Boundaries of Presidential Power

The show opens with an introduction by Cary Harrison, setting the stage for a robust exploration of what this ruling means for America, unearthing uncomfortable truths and challenges listener/viewers to grapple with the consequences of such judicial decisions.

Harrison, recognized for his investigative prowess in journalism, does not shy away from contentious issues. His monologue effectively underscores the gravity of the Supreme Court’s decision. The central question of whether the President of the United States is truly above the law is examined in detail, with historical context and present-day implications considered.

Supreme Court’s Decision in Trump vs. United States

Cary Harrison critiques the Supreme Court's decision, describing it as a move that essentially lifts the President to a king-like status. This sentiment is best captured in his recount of Justice Kavanaugh’s arguments during the case. Particularly striking is Kavanaugh's hypothetical scenario where a President orchestrating a coup d'etat might be considered engaging in an "official act" and thus be safeguarded from prosecution.

Professor Francis Boyle joins the discussion to provide expert analysis. He echoes Harrison’s concerns and draws chilling parallels to historical events. Boyle equates the January 6th attacks to Hitler’s Munich Beer Hall Putsch of 1923, suggesting a frightening trajectory for American democracy. The conversation with Boyle reveals a deep-seated fear among legal experts—that this decision could effectively insulate the President from any form of criminal liability, undermining the rule of law.

The Realities and Consequences of the Ruling

Harrison dives deeper, illustrating the absurdity of what could transpire under this new judicial protection. He paints a vivid picture: a President could theoretically commit heinous acts under the guise of performing "official duties" and consequently be immune from prosecution. The discussion extends to cover various legal and political ramifications, including the controversial ‘Project 2025’ which aims at dismantling significant aspects of government and public welfare.

Professor Boyle offers solutions, such as counterpacking the Supreme Court to balance the ideological scales skewed by years of strategic judicial appointments by Republican Presidents. This approach, he argues, is a necessary countermeasure to restore equilibrium and prevent the further degradation of constitutional governance.

The Role of Civil Resistance

Reflecting on historical and contemporary advocacy, Boyle stresses the importance of civil resistance. He advocates for peaceful, non-violent protest, invoking the spirit of previous movements that have shaped American policy and public opinion. His insights suggest a way for citizens to take action despite institutional failings.

Precedents in International Law and Current Affairs

The conversation broadens to international implications, including the U.S.'s continuing arms support to Israel amid allegations of violations of several U.S. laws. Boyle’s legal expertise underscores the gravity of the situation, criticizing actions that might be rendered untouchable by the recent Supreme Court decision.

Then, ‘Open-Phones’ Callers from various backgrounds share their thoughts, urging action and expressing deep-seated fears about the future of American democracy under such legal precedents. The dialogue underscores a collective awareness and readiness to contest these unsettling developments.

Retrospective and Forward Action

Harrison encapsulates the episode’s discussions, emphasizing the urgency for informed citizenry and civic involvement. He encourages his listeners to stay engaged, suggesting platforms and avenues for active participation, including joining the Rethinking Heroes community and tuning into further discussions.

The episode effectively mobilizes public sentiment, providing not only a critique of contemporary issues but also offering avenues for meaningful action. It leaves an indelible mark, highlighting the critical juncture at which America stands and the imperative for collective, informed resistance to safeguard democracy.

Family Fueds During These Politcal Times (FULL SHOW)24 Feb 202500:50:39

Ah, the road to tyranny isn’t paved with the footsteps of villains alone. No, it is smoothed and widened by the well-meaning, by the hopeful, by those who—through some twist of history, some whisper of propaganda—become the unwitting accomplices of their own oppression.

Take Germany, for instance. A nation battered, humiliated, and economically crippled after the First World War. Its people—intelligent, cultured, and deeply wounded—it wanted nothing more than dignity, prosperity, and security. And so, when a charismatic leader arrived, promising revival, strength, and unity… the promise to make Germany great again… they listened. Not because they were cruel, but because they believed in something better. They saw a man who spoke their grievances, who promised to shield them from the chaos of modernity, who swore that the enemy was not within, but without. And isn’t that a comforting thought? That one’s suffering isn’t one’s own doing, but the result of an external force—be it a group, a race, or a set of ideals that must be eliminated for the good of the people?

It never begins with atrocities. It begins with small concessions. A newspaper is shut down because it spreads "misinformation." A professor is dismissed because his ideas "weaken the moral fabric of society." A neighbor is arrested because, well, "he was always a bit suspicious, wasn’t he?" The well-meaning shrug, tell themselves these are necessary adjustments, temporary measures for the greater good. They believe it is their duty, their responsibility, to uphold the fabric of their civilization, even as the very hands they trust are unweaving it thread by thread.

But Germany isn’t the only story. The same melody plays throughout history, different instruments, same tune. The Soviet farmer, desperate for land reform, gives his loyalty to a system that will later take his land and leave him starving. The Chinese intellectual, dreaming of a fairer society, kneels before a revolution that will devour him for thinking too much. The Venezuelan worker, weary of corruption, cheers for a leader who promises justice but delivers ruin.

* You see, authoritarianism rarely marches in with a snarl. It smiles. It reassures. It promises solutions. It presents itself as the logical choice, the only choice. And the well-meaning? They welcome it, convinced that their ideals—justice, order, security—are finally within reach. They don’t realize, until it is too late, that they have bartered their freedom for chains.

And perhaps the cruelest irony of all is that when the truth becomes too evident to ignore, when the atrocities mount, the brainwashing holds fast. The well-meaning become the defenders of their own undoing, too proud, too frightened, too invested to admit they were wrong. So they double down. They justify. They say, “It wasn’t supposed to be this way, but what choice do we have now?”

And that’s how the descent completes itself. Not with a single moment of surrender, but with a thousand small nods of agreement. Not with an iron fist crashing down overnight, but with a slow, suffocating embrace.

Yet, let’s not be naïve—some really don’t march blindly into the abyss. Some see exactly what is happening and welcome it.

For them, authoritarianism isn’t a tragic accident but a golden opportunity. They are the ones who hear the rhetoric of exclusion and smile, because it ensures that power remains in hands that look like theirs. They watch as the walls close in around the weak, the different, the inconvenient—and they breathe easier, knowing that the chaos of true equality will never touch them.

* They are self-aware, these architects of oppression. They know these official speeches about a new “unity” are a lie, that the scapegoats of today will be the corpses of tomorrow.

FastClass: How authoritarianism takes root (in Spanish)

But they don’t care. They don’t need to believe in the ideology as long as it serves them. The demagogue gives them permission—not just to rule, but to indulge, to discriminate, to erase. And in return, they prop him up, protect him, and whisper in his ear what he already knows: That the illusion of order is best maintained when the privileged few get to write the rules and hoard the spoils.

And so, they toast to the suffering of others, justifying it as the natural order, the price of security, the reward of the “deserving.” Not misled, not brainwashed—just willing executioners of a world designed for them and them alone.

These are the completely invented red state-blue state divisions in a single country of United States. States that are disunited, even though they are federally-tethered. Families who can’t even visit together on holidays because stabbing each other would somehow be more delicious than the turkey. Yet, the same people watch the same shows on Netflix, eat the same Krispy Kreme doughnuts, drive on the same freeways. But when reminded that their own children are the enemy or that their cousins voted in a certain way, it is the union versus the Confederacy… with no actual reward for the emotional victor. Parents who love their children but who would actually blindly slaughter them with a carving knife if the right manufactured topic arose.

I speak of my own late father who would be exactly in that knife-wielding, self justifying blind rage to hold onto this self-assessed power that he was told was his and his alone. Many of us are disenfranchised from our own families in these recent times. With us is yet another daughter of parents who can turn like pitbulls at the silent ding of the propaganda bell. Ep. 53: True Crime - FL Sheriffs Wrongly Arrest Top Secret Clearance Vet.11 May 202400:58:56

In the latest episode of "Rethinking Heroes with Cary Harrison," we feature critical discussions on the consequences of wrongful arrests, highlighting the case of Ian Murray, a U.S. military veteran who fought to clear his name against wrongful charges by the ambitious Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. Then, Open Phones and an actual AI-created video sample of Donald Trump defending his "toadstool-like penis”, as witnessed by Stormy Daniels under oath.

This epsisode with Mr. Murray and more broadly through later phone calls, elaborates on the importance of self-advocacy, the role of peaceful protests, and parallels with historical movements. The episode also addresses challenges to free speech and activism, exploring perspectives on the Kent State massacre, legal restrictions on climate change discourse in Florida, and arrest tactics against activists like Jill Stein. It further examines the militarization of police, the US and Germany's role in the Gaza conflict, and controversial legislation against criticizing Israel. Emphasizing the significance of nonviolent resistance, the episode underscores the need for maintaining free speech and critical thinking in the face of power misuse and misinformation.

**The Struggle for Truth**

Ian's story begins upon his return from deployment, where he was unjustly swept into the nightmare of wrongful arrests, a plight that unfortunately isn't rare in our society today. Unpacking the layers of Ian's experiences, Cary navigates through the complex interaction between military service, public perception, and the often misunderstood realities of legal battles against unfounded charges.

**A Veteran's Fight Against False Accusations**

Ian Murray stood firm against the waves of misconception and defamation that followed a baseless accusation of misusing military leave—a charge that seemed as ludicrous as it was groundless. His odyssey wasn't just a personal battle; it was a stark illumination of how swiftly and severely the machinery of misunderstanding and prejudice can operate against veterans and citizens alike.

**The Legal Labyrinth and Public Perception**

Ian's narrative is a sobering reminder of the scars left by wrongful arrests, scars that persist even after legal victories. These battles are not solely fought in courtrooms but in the court of public opinion, where the shadows of misjudgment can linger far longer than any legal proceeding. The episode delves into the complexities of restoring one's reputation in the digital age—a task as daunting as any legal fight.

**The Role of Critical Media**

"Rethinking Heroes" also brings into focus the vital role of media in shaping narratives around public figures and controversial issues. In an era where misinformation can spread like wildfire, Cary Harrison's nuanced exploration of Ian's journey shines as a beacon of responsible journalism, providing a platform for truth and fostering a more informed public discourse.

**Conclusion: The Continuous Fight for Justice**

As "Rethinking Heroes" concludes, listeners are left with a sense of gravity regarding the challenges that lie in the quest for justice, but also with a feeling of inspiration from the courage displayed by individuals like Ian Murray. It's a poignant reminder of the ongoing struggle many face in seeking to clear their names and reclaim their lives amidst unfounded accusations and societal misconceptions.

In every episode, "Rethinking Heroes" not only tells a story but also poses a challenge to its listeners—to engage, think critically, and advocate for a just and informed society. Ian Murray's perseverance and the scrutiny of his and others' stories through this platform encourage a deeper understanding of the nuanced truths that shape our perceptions of heroism, justice, and redemption in the contemporary world.

Ep. 53: True Crime Pt. 2 - False Sexting w/ Minor Lands L.A. in $40M Suit30 Apr 202400:32:23

Rebuilding Reputations: A Hollywood Actor’s Legal Battle for Justice

You’ll remember a few months ago we broke the story about now-dismissed sexting charges from the LA DA’s office. In what reads like a screenplay full of twists and turns, Hollywood actor Joseph Gatt, renowned for his roles in 'Game of Thrones,' 'Thor,' and 'True Detective,' found himself at the heart of a legal whirlwind after being falsely accused of sexual misconduct with a minor. Now, he has initiated a $40M lawsuit against Los Angeles County, DA George Gascón, among others, claiming his career was unjustly sabotaged by baseless allegations of communicating inappropriately with a minor - which was later dismissed. Gatt contends that sloppy investigative work led to a premature announcement of felony charges, which were later disproved by forensic analysis showing the evidence had been tampered with. The fallout from these accusations has had a catastrophic effect on his life, both professionally and personally, with Joseph Gatt estimating a loss of $40 million in potential earnings.

Joseph Gatt's fight to clear his name and rebuild his Hollywood career is a stark reminder of the complex interplay between law, media, and the people caught in their crosshairs – including his partner, Mercy Malick, and attorney, Dean Pamphilis. We share insights into the flaws in the criminal justice system, highlighting the importance of accountability and the need for systemic change to protect individuals from similar injustices.

Ep. 52: The Rise of Synthetic Relationships & AI; Project 2025's Plan For Authoritarianism22 Apr 202400:53:45

The Future of AI in Social Networks & The Threats of Project 2025

Cary Harrison takes you into the evolution of social networks led by Meta, formerly Facebook, towards the creation of synthetic social networks utilizing AI to generate chatbots mimicking celebrities and creators. He discusses the growing interest in AI interactions, the shift in the meaning of friendships due to social media, and how our interactions may become indistinguishable between humans and bots. Interviewed is Ed Watal, a tech expert who discusses the potential misuse of AI, including deepfakes and cyber threats, alongside his work on an Ethical AI Platform. Later, superhero Anne Nelson exposes 'Project 2025,' a secretive initiative aimed at dismantling government and civil liberties. (Anne Nelson, author of 'Shadow Network') highlights the project's dangers, including its impact on environmental policies and civil liberties, gays, guns, and all of Europe.

Part 1.

Navigating the Ethical Maze of AI in Social Media: The Rise of Synthetic Relationships**

In the digital age, the intersection of technology, social media, and artificial intelligence (AI) has reshaped our lives in unprecedented ways. As we delve into this complex web, the emergence of "synthetic relationships" fostered by AI, particularly through platforms like Meta (formerly Facebook), presents a paradigm shift in how we interact online.

By introducing chatbots mimicking celebrities, Meta has laid the foundation for a future where digital personas and synthetic relationships flourish. The concept might sound bizarre, but it underscores a reality where the lines between genuine and artificial interactions blur.

**The Illusion of Connection**

Cary Harrison progresses by highlighting the illusion of connection that social media platforms have nurtured. With platforms enabling users to accumulate thousands of "friends," the essence of true friendship dilutes. This critique isn't about vilifying social media but rather spotlighting its potential misuse, drawing parallels with historical propaganda techniques.

Facebook's pivot towards a creator-centric model, influenced by platforms like TikTok, further complicates this relationship. The discussion touches on the ethical ramifications of AI-generated content and its role in shaping the internet's future, emphasizing the need for a discerning approach to online interactions.

**Guest Insights: Ed Watal**

The conversation with Ed Watal, an expert in cybersecurity and founder of Intellibus, introduces a critical perspective on the challenges and opportunities presented by AI. Watal dives into the concept of "deepfakes" and their potential for fraudulent activities, stressing the need for vigilance and ethical frameworks in AI development. His insights into open-source vulnerabilities and the risk of manipulated information echo the urgency for ethical guidelines in the digital landscape.

Watal's vision for an "ethical AI platform" proposes a model where the integrity of information, respect for copyright, and the protection of public domain are paramount. This approach not only safeguards against unethical data practices but also advocates for a future where AI serves humanity's best interests, without compromising ethical standards.

**Embracing Ethical AI**

The exploration into the realms of AI and social media through "Rethinking Heroes" not only sheds light on the current landscape but also poses significant questions about the future we are constructing. As we forge ahead, the emphasis on ethical AI and the preservation of authentic human connections will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in shaping a digital environment grounded in integrity, accountability, and genuine engagement.

Part 2.

"Project 2025: Unveiling The Blueprint for America's Future"

**Introduction to Project 2025**

Cary speaks with Anne Nelson, a renowned author, international affairs expert, and journalism award winner. Nelson offers a critical examination of the ideological underpinnings and strategic goals of Project 2025, shedding light on its potential impacts on America's governance, environmental policies, and public health. Crafted by influential entities such as the Heritage Foundation and Koch Industries, this plan proposes sweeping changes that have the potential to radically alter the future of the United States.

**The Creators Behind The Scheme**

The Heritage Foundation, well-known for its conservative policy advocacy, together with Koch Industries—yes, the very same that supplies much of the country's toilet paper—have been at the forefront of this ambitious blueprint. Their vision, however, extends far beyond mere policy changes, stirring deep concerns about its implications for democracy, the environment, and societal norms.

**The Objectives of Project 2025**

Delving into the specifics, Project 2025 aims for a dramatic reshaping of the nation's legislative and judicial frameworks. It proposes to dismantle and restructure federal agencies, some of which were established during Nixon's presidency as safeguards for public welfare and environmental protection.

**The Strategic Media and Digital Campaigns**

Nelson elucidates on the sophisticated digital and media strategies employed by the proponents of Project 2025. Through their well-funded platforms, they've launched a pervasive campaign to sway public opinion and political outcomes. These strategies include misinformation about climate change, undermining public health initiatives, and promoting divisive societal norms.

**The Environmental and Social Implications**

One of the most alarming aspects of Project 2025 is its overt assault on environmental protections. The blueprint calls for dismantling the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and renouncing international climate agreements. Moreover, it harbors regressive stances on women's rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and public education, aiming to roll back decades of progress in these areas.

**Conclusion: The Path Forward**

As citizens and stakeholders of democracy, the revelations about Project 2025 serve as a wake-up call. It underscores the necessity for informed participation in the political process, critical thinking in assessing information, and a collective effort to safeguard democratic values and public welfare. In the face of such a pivotal turning point, engagement, advocacy, and vigilance are more crucial than ever.

True Crime Hypocrisy: Moms for Liberty, School Politics, and Climate Change06 Apr 202400:40:27

This episode of Los Angeles Public Radio’s 'Rethinking Heroes' hosted by Cary Harrison delves into the controversial actions and background of Moms for Liberty, a group known for their stance against the LGBT community and book-banning while engaging in lesbian three-ways and rape allegations. Additionally, the episode discusses broader issues such as climate change denial, extremism in school boards, and the politicization of education in Florida. Featuring an in-depth interview with Dr. Maurice Cunningham, an expert on dark money, featured in Forbes. We explore the origins, motivations, and impact of right-wing “parent” groups on public education. Callers also chime-in on wealth, discrimination, geoengineering, and climate change, 'Rethinking Heroes' aims to shed light on pressing social and political issues through critical discussion and satire.

We dive into a discussion that's as fun as it is necessary. There's something even more exhilarating - unraveling the threads of truth in our society's fabric. Take education, for instance. Imagine a world where schools prioritize scholastics, real history, and science. Instead, what do we see? A ban on books, a censorship of critical content, and a bizarre obsession with keeping children away from harm's way without addressing root causes. It's ludicrous. But let's tread deeper into the waters of historical amnesia. In some places, slavery is brushed under the carpet, as if erasing it from textbooks could change history. My ancestors owned plantations, a fact documented in family diaries alongside visits from George Washington. Yet, acknowledging such truths becomes controversial. Why? Because it challenges a political narrative, disrupts the comfort of ignorance and allows for indifferent gerrymandering. Switch gears to the present. We live in an era where Huck Finn and David Sedaris are banned throughout the southeast, yet the real comedy is the attempt to sanitize history. Who'd have thought?

I've read so many books from from William F. Buckley Jr. to Chomsky to De Tocqueville - books that shaped a portion of my political understanding which seem lost in today's discourse. It's not just about reading; it's about understanding the pivotal role of critical thinking. In this landscape of absurdity, where “grooming” is equated to mere exposure to different American lifestyles, history's complexity is reduced to good versus evil.

Did the gay actor companions of Ronald Reagan alter his sexuality or beliefs? Of course not. He did marry the popular Nancy Reagan, Hollywood legend known for being able to "unbuckle her jaw". No amount of dinner parties with Truman Capote or Rock Hudson changed the Gipper’s appetites nor minimized the joys of her vaunted jaw.

It's a reminder that personal liberty and the complexities of the human condition demand respect, not censorship. As we navigate this terrain, remember that solutions exist, but they require courage and honesty - not just a willingness to turn a blind eye. It's about dismantling hypocrisy, not perpetuating it. And so, as we wax philosophical over brandy and cigars or yoga and green tea, let's commit to unearthing truth, promoting dialogue, and challenging the narratives that bind us. It's not just educational; it's essential to the fabric of our society. Let's make these conversations public, not just for entertainment, but for enlightenment.

Digital Freedom vs. Political Control in the TikTok Sale Saga + Open Phones31 Mar 202400:47:47

PART. 1

## The Heartbeat of Free Speech and the Digital Arena: TikTok at the Crossroads

The recent buzz about TikTok potentially changing hands (from the Chinese) to a group led by none other than former W. Bush Treasury Secretary, Steve Mnuchin along with the Israeli spy chief, has rekindled fiery debates about digital autonomy, who holds the reins of power, and the ever-present specter of TikTok’s death-by-censorship. He who controls TikTok, controls the narrative.

You know, TikTok, that vibrant platform synonymous with bite-sized videos and a vibrant young community? It's become ground zero for discussions on free speech and the delicate dance between politics and control. TikTok is also a surprising political arena where topics and discussions, conspicuously avoided by the legacy media, are bountiful and unfiltered.

Critics aren't mincing words; they're arguing that this isn't just your run-of-the-mill business deal. Nope, it's a power play aimed at stifling dissent on sensitive issues, from human rights atrocities to progressive activism. They fear it's a slippery slope toward monopolizing the narrative, drowning out voices in a space once hailed as a sanctuary for unfiltered expression.

## The Political Oracle: James Ray's Insights on Digital Platforms and Political Activism

We speak with the Political Oracle himself, James Ray, a prominent political activist and commentator, particularly known for his extensive work on Palestine and his significant following on TikTok (400K+). Ray's perspective illuminated how TikTok, unlike other platforms, has enabled a broader dissemination of information on political issues like Palestine, which often face censorship elsewhere.

Follow James Ray on TikTok: @jamesgetspolitical

Follow Cary Harrison on TikTok: @TheCaryHarrison

The interactive session with James Ray shed light on the intrinsic value digital platforms hold in amplifying voices that are typically marginalized in mainstream discourse. This isn't just about one platform but the overall maneuvering of digital spaces to curate or control political education and activism, using murky security concerns to quash free speech.

And what about legacy media? Well, Cary's not one to shy away from the tough questions. In a world where truth is a rare commodity, he champions platforms like TikTok, fueled by brave activists like James Ray (Democratic Socialists of America) and Public Radio shows like "Rethinking Heroes" as beacons of raw honesty, doing what the mainstream media seems no longer willing or able to do.

## The Uncertain Future of Free Speech

Digital platforms, as underscored by Cary Harrison and information analysts like James Ray, remain crucial in the fight for a more equitable, just, and transparent world. The discussions on "Rethinking Heroes" serve as a reminder of the role each of us plays in shaping the future of our digital and real-world societies. Cary Harrison’s TikTok: @thecaryharrison

PART 2:

OPEN PHONES

In the heart of broadcast, where the unpredictable meets the airwaves, there's no telling what might happen when the phone lines open. Cary Harrison, a name synonymous with fearless journalism and untamed discussions, has seen his fair share of the unexpected, the bizarre, and the downright insane callers who have graced his show, 'Rethinking Heroes.' From audacious confessions to ludicrous assertions, these callers often leave us with jaws agape and minds boggling.

One such caller, fondly remembered as “Frog from Atlanta”, took us on a roller coaster of conspiracy theories, political bravado, and an alarming admiration for controversial figures. Frog's emphatic defense of former President Trump's endeavors and virtues (or lack thereof) painted a vivid picture of dedication mixed with a heap of delusion. His take on Trump-sponsored Bibles and celestial claims about Trump's supposed virtues was nothing short of comedic gold. Yet, beneath the chuckles, it underscored a glaring reflection on the depth of political polarization and media influence on public opinion.

Amidst these calls, Cary Harrison maintained his composure and wit, navigating through the absurdity with the grace of a seasoned broadcaster. His ability to entertain, inform, and provoke thought, all while dealing with the most wayward of callers, showcases the unique power of live radio.

'Rethinking Heroes' continues to be a beacon for those seeking a sanctuary for free speech, dissent, and the occasional dive into the depths of human eccentricity. It's a reminder that in the vast expanse of broadcast media, you're just a dial away from entering a world where the unexpected becomes the norm, and every caller has the potential to redefine what it means to be truly, utterly insane or brilliant at the same time.

[Full Video] Ep. #3: Torpedoed USS Liberty False-Flag Op? 25 Feb 202400:17:29

Remembering the USS Liberty: A Story of Betrayal and Bravery

In the annals of history, there are countless stories of unsung heroes whose sacrifices have shaped the world we live in today. One such story revolves around the USS Liberty, an American auxiliary ship that was attacked by Israeli fighter jets off the coast of Egypt during the Vietnam War in 1967. This tragic event, shrouded in secrecy and conspiracy, has become a symbol of betrayal and bravery. Join us as we delve into the untold story of the USS Liberty and honor the courageous crew members who survived against all odds.

The USS Liberty: A Targeted Attack

On that fateful day in 1967, the USS Liberty found itself in the crosshairs of Israeli planes. Many questions arise - Why was an American ship fired upon by Israeli jets? And why did the Defense Department instruct the crew to stand down and not respond?

To shed light on this fateful incident, we are privileged to have Phil Turney, a surviving crew member of the USS Liberty, joining us. Phil shares his firsthand account and reveals a more sinister plot behind the attack. It becomes clear that the objective was to sink the USS Liberty and blame it on Egypt's President Nasser, potentially dragging the United States into a catastrophic war with the Soviet Union.

The Aftermath: Silence and Cover-Up

Despite surviving the attack, the crew of the USS Liberty faced a new threat - the government's orders to remain silent. Phil Turney recounts the years of silence imposed upon them, with the threat of prison or death hanging over those who dared to speak out. It was only after 18 years that Phil decided to break his silence, inspired by a shipmate who fearlessly began telling their story.

The Betrayal Within: Government Involvement

The government's role in the USS Liberty incident further deepens the sense of betrayal. As Phil shares, top officials like Robert McNamara, the head of the Defense Department at the time, ordered the crew to do nothing and deployed jets to defend themselves. This invitation to hostility points to a more significant agenda, orchestrated by their own government.

Implications and the Path to Truth

The repercussions of the USS Liberty attack cannot be ignored. It raises questions about the integrity of the government, the military, and the media. Phil Turney emphasizes the importance of uncovering the truth to save the country from its current downward trajectory. The cover-up, which persists even after more than five decades, reveals a disturbing pattern of deceit that continues to plague our nation.

Rethinking Heroes: Advocating for the Truth

At Rethinking Heroes, we strive to bring the stories of veterans like Phil Turney to the forefront. We stand firmly against whitewashing history and believe that every perspective deserves to be heard. Through our efforts, we aim to bring relief to veterans and shed light on the sacrifices they have made.

Looking Ahead: The Need for Transparency

As we conclude our conversation with Phil Turney, his message resonates with civilians and veterans alike. We must demand transparency and accountability from our government. The reticence of presidents, congressmen, and senators to initiate a genuine investigation only perpetuates the cycle of deceit. Sharing the truth about the USS Liberty incident can guide our nation away from its perilous path.

Conclusion:

The untold story of the USS Liberty is a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by our military personnel and the lengths to which some will go to silence the truth. We salute the brave crew members who survived the attack, and we honor their courage in speaking out. Let us remember their story and ensure that such betrayals never happen again.

Note: To learn more about this incident, we encourage you to watch the documentary "Sacrificing Liberty" available on YouTube.

Phil Tourney is one of a handful of surviving crewmembers of the USS Liberty which was attacked during the 6-Day war in 1967 by Israeli fighter jets, killing 34 with 174 wounded. Mr. Tourney is three-time president of the Liberty Veteran's Association. Apart from has written three books and co-authored another, his mission is to let the American people know what really happened the the crew of the USS Liberty during Vietnam. If they sank, as planned by US ally, Israel, WW3 would be minutes away. the surviving Phillip Tourney think Americans should know and deserve the truth. He says his shipmates died because of a crooked government faction under president Lyndon Johnson in order to ramp up the Vietnam war. Tourney says The truth is known by our government, covered up under lock and key.

The Unheard Tale of the USS Liberty: Interview with a Survivor

In this episode of 'Rethinking Heroes,' Cary Harrison interviews Phil Turney, a surviving crew member of the USS Liberty, an American auxiliary ship that was attacked by Israeli jets during the Vietnam War in 1967. The attack resulted in 34 deaths and 174 injuries out of a crew of 294. Phil shares his harrowing personal experience of the incident and exposes an alleged conspiracy to provoke the U.S. into a war with Nasser and the Soviet Union. The discussion uncovers claims of government cover-ups, threats to survivors, and the courage of crew members who risk their lives to uncover the truth. Phil attributes their survival to good leadership and divine intervention. He strongly urges the government to disclose the truth about the incident, alleging it could possibly rescue America from its currently deteriorating state.

Musking Public Education Despite The Founding Fathers' Decree (FULL SHOW)17 Feb 202500:49:52

Ah, public education—the grand experiment that dragged this republic kicking and screaming toward something resembling civilization. For 250 years, it has been the great equalizer, wrenching the downtrodden from ignorance, opening doors for women, and even bestowing literacy upon the poor Southern whites who, before Reconstruction, were five times as illiterate as their Northern counterparts.

The Founding Fathers, those wild-eyed radicals, knew the truth: a self-governing people, left uneducated, would soon find themselves the playthings of tyrants. Madison warned that a democracy without an educated public was little more than a prelude to tragedy. Adams insisted that education must reach even the lowest citizen, lest the nation be governed by fools. …. lest the nation be governed by fools. Tommy Jefferson, ever the pessimist, predicted tyranny if the masses remained ignorant. And so, before the ink was dry on the Constitution, Congress enshrined education in law, carving up the frontier into tidy plots where schools would be built—by order of the state, no less.

FastClass: Why Abe Lincoln Built the Dept Of Education

Then came the Civil War, and with it, the next great push. Honest abe Lincoln, no stranger to self-education himself, saw literacy as a weapon of freedom. He demanded that Southern states, as they crawled back into the Union, educate their Black citizens. The army, usually busy with more destructive tasks, took up the cause—marching teachers into occupied territory, securing schoolhouses, and imposing a tax to fund this radical notion. When the war ended, the Freedmen’s Bureau carried on the crusade, planting schools across the South, hiring thousands of teachers, and proving—if proof was needed—that the thirst for knowledge was unquenchable, no matter what plantation owners or politicians believed.

By 1867, Congress had had enough of half-assed assurances and created a Department of Education. Naturally, some howled in protest, but they were drowned out by men who still had the smoke of war in their nostrils. Education, they declared, was the bedrock of the republic. Without it, liberty was a farce, democracy a tragic joke. The new department would, at last, ensure that every child—North or South, Black or white—had the tools to hold their government to account.

And yet, here we are, a century and a half later, still debating the merits of knowledge. The ghosts of ignorance still haunt the halls of power, their owners ever eager to unmake the progress that wiser men bled to build.

#38 Beyond Oppenheimer: Victims of Nuclear Testing31 Dec 202300:32:37

In a world where historical narratives often fall victim to omission and misrepresentation, it is crucial to shed light on untold stories that have been hidden in the shadows. "First We Bombed New Mexico" is a compelling documentary that uncovers the harrowing aftermath of the world's first atomic bomb detonation at the Trinity site in New Mexico. The film challenges the narrative propagated by Oppenheimer and exposes the ongoing radiological impact on the lives and lands of the people of New Mexico. In this blog post, we will dive into the remarkable journey of two extraordinary heroes, Tina Cordova and filmmaker Lois Lipman, who, against all odds, confront the federal government and demand justice for the affected communities.

Unveiling the True Fallout: A Legacy of Betrayal

The Trinity bomb, containing 13 pounds of weapons-grade plutonium, was detonated in New Mexico with little regard for the devastating consequences it would have on the lives of innocent people. Native Americans, Hispanics, and communities of color living as close as 12 miles from the blast were unknowingly subjected to catastrophic levels of radioactive fallout. Often referred to as "forgotten guinea pigs," these individuals were sacrificed for the sake of national security. The bomb's explosion near the largest gypsum deposit in the world exacerbated the situation, allowing radioactive particles to spread far and wide. As a result, the exposed population suffered from multi-generational cancers, covered-up statistics, and a long-lasting legacy of neglect by the government.

Unanswered Questions and Ongoing Fight for Justice

Lois Lipman, an Emmy award-winning filmmaker and passionate advocate for marginalized communities, decided to make "First We Bombed New Mexico" after discovering the horrifying truth about the nuclear bomb's impact. The documentary, narrated by Cary Harrison, delves deep into the government's deliberate silence and failure to acknowledge the suffering endured by those living near the Trinity site. Tina Cordova, a seventh-generation native New Mexican and cancer survivor, co-founded the Tularusa Basin Downwinders Consortium to bring attention to the health effects suffered by the affected communities. Tina, along with other activists, has testified before government agencies in an effort to include continuous overexposure to radiation in the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA).

The Omnipresence of Radiation: A Global Concern

The consequences of the Trinity bomb's detonation extend far beyond the borders of New Mexico. Fallout from the blast reached 46 states, Mexico, and Canada. It is vital to understand that radiation respects no boundaries and affects us all. For instance, the Chernobyl disaster in Ukraine demonstrated how radiation traveled across the globe, causing health complications for individuals in seemingly distant places. As global citizens, we must recognize the inherent danger of nuclear weapons and advocate for proper prevention, compensation, and support for affected communities.

Taking Action: How You Can Help

To support the Trinity Downwinders' fight for justice and recognition, you can visit their website at www.trinitydownwinders.com. This platform provides valuable information on how to get involved and contribute to their cause. Lobbying Congress and raising awareness about the issue are crucial steps in achieving justice for the people of New Mexico and other affected communities.

Conclusion

"First We Bombed New Mexico" uncovers a painful and often disregarded chapter in history. The documentary's powerful storytelling reveals the lasting impacts of the Trinity bomb and exposes the government's negligence and betrayal. Tina Cordova and Lois Lipman's unwavering determination to demand acknowledgment and compensation for affected communities serves as an inspiration for us all. It is through shedding light on untold stories like this that we can strive for a more just and compassionate world, where the voices of those often silenced are heard and their experiences recognized.

#36: [FULL VIDEO]: Nuclear Catastrophe; Reflecting on 'The Day After'13 Dec 202300:50:09

Just finished an enlightening interview with film directors Nicholas Meyer & Jeff Daniels. 🎬 We discussed Meyer's ground-breaking TV film "The Day After" which brought the terrifying realities of nuclear war to the living rooms of millions. Daniels' upcoming PBS documentary "Television Event" gives us a behind-the-scenes insight into this once-controversial film. Tune in & stay tuned! 📺💥 #TheDayAfter #NicholasMeyer #JeffDaniels #TelevisionEvent #PBS #NuclearAwareness #RethinkingHeroes

In the latest edition of 'Rethinking Heroes', we take a deep dive into the making of 'The Day After', the most-watched television film ever. This blog post is based on fortuitously intriguing interviews with two revered film directors, Nicholas Meyer - the force behind 'The Day After', and Jeff Daniels, responsible for a compelling PBS documentary that unveils the reality behind Meyer's film, aptly titled 'Television Event'.

Nicholas Meyer, well-known for his outstanding creative work (Star Trek II, Star Trek IV, CBS, Netflix, HBO) spanning more than five decades in publishing, film, and television, shares his intentions behind 'The Day After'. His aim wasn't to craft an award-winning film, but to present a terrifying and realistic projection of nuclear war to the viewers. 'I just wanted to make a public service announcement. If you have a nuclear war, this is what it might look like.' - shares Meyer about the target of his much-acclaimed television movie.

Jeff Daniels, a multi-award-winning independent director, and producer, provides a behind-the-scenes look at 'The Day After' in his PBS documentary 'Television Event'. Daniels spotlights the challenge of creating and airing such thought-provoking content in an era overwhelmed by entertaining, feel-good television programming. The documentary underlines the influence television had during that time and the power artists like Nicholas Meyer possess to translate difficult subject matters into work that resonates personally with audiences.

The conversation eventually diverts to a broader and pressing issue: nuclear war and its imminent threat. Meyer shares his experiences and thoughts on the horrifying ramifications of nuclear weapons, and emphasizes the role artists can play in influencing society to take action against such threats. Daniels backs up Meyer, commenting on how his documentary showcases the significance of artistic initiatives in advocating for global concerns like nuclear wars.

The interviews with Nicholas Meyer and Jeff Daniels serve as an enlightening exploration of the behind-the-scenes action of 'The Day After', and how it used television as a medium to highlight the chilling reality of nuclear war. They underscore the role of artists and creators in society's awareness and action towards major global concerns. Whether it's making a movie, creating a documentary, or simply starting a conversation, every effort counts in reshaping perceptions and encouraging socially responsible action.

Defying the Ice: A Gay Hockey Player’s Fight for Visibility in an Era of DEI Deletion15 Feb 202500:21:28

Let’s now unravel a tale of ice, courage, and the rarest of human traits—authenticity. The arena? The United States of America. The combatants? Not merely swinging sticks, but young hockey players armed with an even deadlier weapon—conviction. And leading the charge, like a modern hero through the temple of tradition, is Brock McGillis, the first openly gay NHL hockey player who dared to challenge the untouchable gospel of hockey culture.

In 2023, he embarked on a quixotic quest across Canada—100 minor hockey teams in 100 days—saying: be yourself, break conformity, and stand up for one another. The Shiftmakers Tour, as it’s now known, is no ordinary tour. It is a clarion call, a battle cry against the unspoken rules that govern locker rooms and silence dissent. Brock made history by coming out in 2016 as was the first openly gay professional hockey player, and since then, he has been at the forefront of changing sports culture—earning accolades like The Hockey News "100 Most Influential People in Hockey" and Queerty’s Pride50. He's backed by NHL, NHLPA, the Seattle Kraken, Chicago Blackhawks, and our own Warner Brothers and the Shiftmakers Tour is tackling racism, homophobia, and sexism in hockey by inspiring young athletes to foster inclusive environments where everyone belongs.

And now he’s bringing his mission to the U.S. for the first time.

Ep. 27: Oppenheimer's Untold Secret | How WWII Secret Agent Started Russian Cold War29 Jul 202300:58:33

Rethinking Heroes with Cary Harrison is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

When the subject of the movie, Ted Hall, Arrived at Los Alamos in Jan. 1944, he was put to work on refining the complicated implosion system needed to detonate the plutonium bomb. As he did that work through that summer, it became clear to him and many other scientists that Germany was not going to get the bomb. The war was going oo badly for them.

While scientists like Niels Bohr and Leo Szilardvainly  tried to get the government to stop the program or to bring the Russians on instead of keeping it secret from a major ally in the war against the Nazis, Ted decided to act.. on his own.

His hope was that with that standoff, the bomb would be banned, like gas after WWI. Instead, it created Mutually Assured Destruction, but frightening as that has been, it still has given us 78 years so far of no atom bomb being used in war. Ted, an anti-hero, also messed up Truman's plans for a 400-nuke first strike on Soviet cities, preventing an unimaginable holocaust.

Then, Sociologist, THOMAS REIFER, from the University of San Diego and associate fellow at the Transnational Institute, tells us (summarized here) "Unfortunately, the film doesn’t take the time to go into the period of U.S. testing of the H-Bomb, which along with the earlier atomic explosions, spread radioactive waste, and led to the infamous Lucky Dragon incident, about a month and a half before Oppenheimer’s security hearing depicted in the film. On March 1, 1954, the U.S. exploded an H-bomb at Bikini in the South Pacific, and Japanese fishermen, though outside the no-sail zone, were all sickened by radioactive ash and hospitalized, with one dying within days. This was at a time when Lewis Strauss was President Eisenhower’s Atomic Energy Commission Chair, and advisor on nuclear weapons, from which he orchestrated the destruction of Oppenheimer’s reputation, with the help of the father of the H-bomb, Edward Teller, and the Strategic Air Command of the U.S. Air Force under Curtis LeMay. The Lucky Dragon incident, not to mention the fate of downwinders from the Pacific Islands, the U.S. and more, shows the urgency of movements to dismantle our current doomsday machines which can trigger a nuclear winter. They highlight too, the dangers of nuclear-armed military alliances, aggressive war and the escalation of current conventional wars and preparations for war with China, that risk a nuclear holocaust.”

As we pursue the WholEarth Game - a game of trust and sharing, we bring on new heroes making a brighter future all the more possible by their insights and proven concepts.

with us today, is L Huntet Lovins, author of several books, including Natural Capitalism: Creating the Next Industrial Revolution (with Amory Lovins and Paul Hawken), which has been translated into 20 languages. She is also a frequent speaker at conferences and events around the world.

Lovins's work has focused on the intersection of business and sustainability. She argues that businesses can profit from adopting sustainable practices, and she has helped to develop a number of tools and frameworks for businesses to do so. Lovins is also a strong advocate for government policies that support sustainability.

Lovins is a visionary leader who has helped to shape the sustainability movement. Her work has inspired businesses, governments, and individuals around the world to take action to protect the planet.

About the WholEarth Game:

Half measures will avail nothing. On a planet that is estimated to be 4.8 Billion years old, it is almost impossible to imagine that in just 200 years what we have done to our Mother Earth, Gaia. Any child that turns on its mother is in great confusion. How many times have played the WholEarth Game? How many times have we come from behind to win this game? After billions of years practicing we should be pretty good at it by now.

Love always wins.

Ep. 24: So-Called “Free State of Florida” | Why A Marine Defends His "LGBT Bros" | PSYOPS Vet Talks Domestic Terrorism | SCOTUS Clobbers Minorities - Exempts the Military08 Jul 202300:58:10

I delivered a long show today on the Fascism and cruelty of the “Free State Of Florida’s” gonad-curious governor.  With SCOTUS just determining that, in a return to 1950s-style clodhoppery, the homosexual, n*gro, hisp*nic, and j*w may not expect equal access to higher education. This movement de bowel is metastasizing across the fruited plain.  In the former Sunshine State, 200 new laws just went into effect that would grizzle the most grizzled geezer who lived through World War II. AR-15s are allowed in Botox clinics and Toys R Us; ice cream parlors and anal bleaching centers alike.  But books are banned and medicine withheld based on “moral reasons” from people who vote the wrong way.  Stalin must be rubbing his crabbed organ from the flames below and Goebbels must be limp-dancing on his clubbed leg for which he always received treatment despite his known “otherness”.

And it's all for politics for a party that barely resembles that of Abraham Lincoln or General Dwight D Eisenhower. Anything these blackguards can do to reduce and purge all the not-GOP voters is the goal of this evolving power game. An age-old ploy that always works when the average bloke is fed CNN or Fox as their main course.  Bummer that GOP only has a tranche of 80+ year old diehards from which to derive its undesirable new powers.  Flushing the social toilets leaves the bowl clean for Mildred and George who represent a disproportionately large GOP electorate in what used to be called the Sunshine State.  Mildred knows that Drag Queens are grooming children - children, the diametric opposite of anything remotely interesting to a drag queen. You'd have to give RuPaul $1 million to spend even two minutes with somebody's kid.

It is now illegal to sell my condo to a “chinaman” in FLA because he is a commie, yet his factories are models of patriotic business practices.   Add Venezuelans, Cubans, and a whole host of other cultures if that condo, property, real estate is within 10 miles of a military base. The whole state of Florida is a giant military base from NASA to Key West. Problem solved.

Orwell was gay and Huxley was straight… and yet they’re both banned in Florida. It’s their ideas, not their genitals.  And if it weren’t for the Emperor Hadrian and his boyfriend, Antonus, there’d be no concept of public liberrys from which to ban books.

Meanwhile, the great patriot, Bob Hope, still appears in drag on TV without a whiff of concern.

Oh, how the stench of b******t burns the nostrils.

Ep. 21: Rare Nixon Audio & Daniel Ellsberg | Navy Pilot Cracks Open Government UFO (UAP) Program | What Are Transgenders?24 Jun 202300:56:46

* Daniel Ellsberg rarely appeared on TV… yet he changed U.S. history like few private citizens.  Back in 1971, Daniel Ellsberg, a Pentagon military analyst, released a comprehensive record of U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War. Known as the "Pentagon Papers" … and his disclosure ended the 20th century's longest U.S. war. A landmark Supreme Court press freedom decision would follow…. And President Richard Nixon's response led directly to the scandals that ended Nixon’s presidency. This rare Nixon audio was never released. In it, President Nixon explains how he could've gotten away with a full cover-up.

* The tidal wave continues to grow over the military and government interest in what we used to call UFOs – now called UAP or unidentified anomalous phenomena.   What used to be the domain of the Air Force’s famous project blue book and endlessly passed off as weather balloons or drunken seagulls.… We have a new class of heroes – US Air Force pilots tasked with keeping us safe.  Thanks to technology which is no longer easily dismissed during repeated UAP sightings, a group of pilots have created a nonprofit organization called “Americans for Safe Aerospace”…. a military pilot-led nonprofit organization dedicated to aerospace safety and national security…. with a focus on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP).  ASA was founded by Ryan Graves, a former Lieutenant U.S. Navy F/A-18 pilot, who was the first active-duty pilot to come forward with Defense Department evidence to Congress about UAP.

[c] 12:01:15

Threethinking heroes with Carrie Harrison, with over 700 military veteran journalists worldwide its your rethinking heroes flash briefing stories from the front, Carrie Harrison, here, with your rethinking heroes flash briefing an update on national defense

[c] 12:01:33

news and stories affecting service members, veterans, and the rest of us.

[c] 12:01:37

I was just thinking about Daniel Ellsberg.

[c] 12:01:41

It's a tough one, a giant loss, for most of us we'll get to him in just a moment.

[c] 12:01:44

A naval base in Gulfport, Mississippi, has taken measures to protect itself from the gun violence that is spilling onto its borders.

[c] 12:01:51

The Naval Construction Battalion Center in Gulf Board, built a wall of shipping containers to keep stray bullets off the base.

[c] 12:01:59

Nbc. News reported the boxes were put into place after a shootout at a subsidized housing complex across the street, hit and damaged 5 homes on the base.

[c] 12:02:08

In addition to the barricade, the navy has increased patrols along the perimeter the base told Nbc.

[c] 12:02:13

The barriers met as a temporary solution and they've received assurances from the city of golf port that officials are addressing the escalating gun violence.

[c] 12:02:22

However, officials say they haven't ruled out something more permanent.

[c] 12:02:27

About 72,000 people live in Gulf Port, where they've been about 10 homicides a year since 2019, and that's up from about 2 to 3 a year.

[c] 12:02:37

A decade prior. Unfortunately, Gulf Port is not alone in its challenges with guns, according to the Cdc.

[c] 12:02:43

More Americans died in 2021 from gun injuries than any other year on record.

[c] 12:02:47

This also is the first time that a military base has used shipping containers as protection.

[c] 12:02:52

When Fort Cavazos, in Texas, then called Fort Hood, held the trial of the officer who conducted a mass shooting on the base in 2,009.

[c] 12:03:00

The base. Stacked, shipping containers in long lines surrounding that courthouse.

[c] 12:03:05

Now to a story about a tricycle stolen from the Coast Guard for real men used to trespass at a Florida airport for more.

[c] 12:03:13

On that we go to rethinking heroes. Rose Thor.

[rosethayer] 12:03:16

Thank you, Carrie. From Austin, Texas. This is Rose there, reporting for rethinking heroes a woman in Florida was arested after she hopped offense at the St.

[rosethayer] 12:03:27

Petersburg airport, and then wrote a tricycle onto the taxiway.

[rosethayer] 12:03:30

It turns out the tricycle was stolen from the nearby Coast Guard station in Clearwater.

[rosethayer] 12:03:36

This is something I was unaware of, but the Coast Guard uses tricycles as well.

[rosethayer] 12:03:40

Golf carts and bobcats to transport tools and parts around the station.

[rosethayer] 12:03:44

The Tampa Bay Times. Reports. The woman climbed the fence to the Coast Guard station stall, the tricycle, and then wrote it to a ramp area behind the terminal behind Terminal.

[rosethayer] 12:03:54

A at the St. Pete airport, her joy ride was busted when airport security noticed her on security camera, footage cruising along the restricted area on the tricycle.

[rosethayer] 12:04:04

She was arrested while trying to board a commercial flight.

[rosethayer] 12:04:07

To Argentina, and now faces a felony charge for the trespassing and grand theft, for the tricycle.

[rosethayer] 12:04:13

Now back to you, Carrie, to discuss the passing of a veteran who leaked the Pentagon papers in 1971 and helped lead to the resignation of President Richard Nixon.

[c] 12:04:23

Thank you. Rose. Daniel Ellsberg was a history-making whistleblower, known for his daring leak of documents to reveal the Government's internal doubt about the Vietnam War, and the campaign to deceive the public about those misgivings his recent

[c] 12:04:38

pasting at 92 from pancreatic cancer is a loss to accountability Ellsberg graduated from Harvard, served in the Marine Corps before consulting the Government on the Vietnam War and over time.

[c] 12:04:50

He noticed inconsistencies, and outright lies connected to the Us.

[c] 12:04:55

Involvement in Vietnam that led him to leak 7,000 pages of Pentagon documents to the Media that exposed the military's so-called review of its own involvement in the region as punishment President richard M.

[c] 12:05:10

Nixon went after Ellsberg directly, personally, which led to Watergate, which led to Nixon's later resignation.

[c] 12:05:17

We'll have some special, Dan Ellsberg audio later.

[c] 12:05:19

Here, and rethinking heroes back to military reporter, rose there to discuss the impact that increased hateful rhetoric has had on military families.

[rosethayer] 12:05:27

Yeah. Carrie, this news is heartbreaking to learn about the Air Force told Defense one news that it is moved.

[rosethayer] 12:05:35

Service members and their families. 15 times since 2021 to help them escape discrimination because of their race or sexual orientation.

[rosethayer] 12:05:43

In 2021 the Air Force began tracking. How often members of of the Air and Space Force requested to move duty stations because of racial or Lgbtq discrimination.

[rosethayer] 12:05:55

In some cases the move was requested because the service Members child was bullied in school request to move because of a personal hardship, have always been available.

[rosethayer] 12:06:04

To families, but because the Air Force only began tracking. Why troops asked to move about 2 years ago.

[rosethayer] 12:06:11

Officials couldn't say whether this increase, this is an increase to previous years.

[rosethayer] 12:06:16

This comes as Republican-led States have introduced historic levels of anti Lgbtq legislation, and even if these bills don't become law, just the introduction and discussion of them can make people feel unwelcome or empower others to discriminate for rethinking heroes

[rosethayer] 12:06:33

I'm rose there, back to you, Carrie!

[c] 12:06:35

Thank you so much for that, Rose, and we would all do well to remember history.

[c] 12:06:41

Alexander the Great, who conquered most of the known world, had a boyfriend.

[c] 12:06:44

You didn't want him to not be on your side.

[c] 12:06:48

The Spartans and ancient Greece, you didn't want them not to be on your side, and the Maori of New Zealand you didn't want them not to be on your side, as black people, because they were the only ones ever historically to have kicked the british's ass

[c] 12:07:07

as colonial forces. So those 2 groups are some of the most powerful warriors who have ever lived, so make no mistake you don't want them as your enemies special thanks to military reporter Rose Thear, for this rethinking hero's flash briefing from Los Angeles and beyond

[c] 12:09:43

We'll be talking to Ryan Graves in just a few moments.

[c] 12:09:45

I want to take a moment here and mention that rethinking heroes here is going to be able to stream the live TV broadcast of World Peace Day on September 20, first, unexpectedly, I was asked by Unesco to emcee the global event for the United Nations in

[c] 12:10:03

Switzerland. It's going to be televised from countries all over the world, and it's going to feature speeches and music.

[c] 12:10:07

Hope for peace during these truly unusual times every generation has said, Oh, these are on you!

[c] 12:10:13

These are unusual times. The entire planet is at war and nuclear power plants are being bombarded.

[c] 12:10:21

Truly unusual times, so I'm going to keep you up to date, and you can feel comfortable that the impact that rethinking heroes has had, and how this show, and how me, as the host was invited as a global Mc representing hundreds of nations around the world that's because of

[c] 12:10:34

you. So we're gonna keep you in the loop on where and how you can watch and participate.

[c] 12:10:40

Let's take a moment now to remember a hero for our modern times, a groundbreaking hero and father of what it means to be a brave whistleblower with the Pentagon papers.

[c] 12:10:50

Leaker, Daniel Ellsberg passed from pancreatic cancer.

[c] 12:10:53

This brave man up to his death. Quote continued to speak out urgently to the media about nuclear dangers, especially the danger of nuclear war posed by the Ukraine war.

[c] 12:11:04

And Taiwan. That's what his family said.

[c] 12:11:07

Daniel Ellsberg rarely appeared on TV, yet he changed us history, like few private citizens ever could or did.

[c] 12:11:14

Back in 1971 Daniel Ellsberg, a Pentagon military analyst, released a comprehensive record of us.

[c] 12:11:21

Involvement in the Vietnam War, known as the Pentagon Papers, and his disclosure ended. The twentieth century's longest u.

[c] 12:11:28

S. War a landmark Supreme Court press, freedom, decision would follow, and President Richard Nixon's response led directly to the scandals that ended Nixon's Presidency Ellsberg, a forty-year-old marine corps veteran with a harvard

[c] 12:11:44

Doctorate had worked for the Defense and State departments and the think tank known as the Rand Corporation, which, by the way, stole my motto, preventing truth, Decay.

[c] 12:11:52

They just call it truth, decay. That's okay. I didn't trade market stupid.

[c] 12:11:56

Me less and learned. He worked at the Rand Corporation before arriving at the Pentagon, Dan Ellsberg, a hawk.

[K P F K] 12:11:58

Okay.

[c] 12:12:03

He was a hawk before going to Vietnam in 1,960.

[c] 12:12:06

5 later, turning against the war and its justifications, Ellsberg had access to the Rand's 7 thousand-page classified documents and historical narrative, and over months, as we heard from his son recently here on rethinking heroes, they were able to photocopy one

[c] 12:12:22

page, per Night, Daniel Ellsberg later showed several Senators that material.

[c] 12:12:27

He asked for hearings, or at least to place the report in the Congressional Record.

[c] 12:12:32

The senators refused, and Daniel Ellsberg suggested that the Senators read the New York Times instead, because in 1971 he gave it all to the New York Times.

[c] 12:12:44

The Washington Post and 17 other newspapers displeased the President of the United States himself.

[c] 12:12:51

None other than Richard Millhouse. Nixon went directly after Daniel Ellsberg, and charged him with 12 felony counts and a possible prison sentence of 115 years.

[c] 12:13:03

This was the famous Watergate scandal in connection with the Nixon directed burglary of the office of Dr.

[c] 12:13:09

Ellsberg's psychiatrist, in order to glean Daniel Ellsberg's personal secrets, that only a psychiatrist would know.

[c] 12:13:16

And then use those secrets against Ellsberg.

[c] 12:13:19

What followed were the convictions of several White House aides, and figured in the impeachment proceedings against President Nixon.

[c] 12:13:26

Here's a piece of audio you're never gonna have heard before.

[c] 12:13:29

It's Richard Nixon himself explaining on tape, of course, how he could have gotten away with a cover up.

[Ryan Graves] 12:13:34

Hello!

[c] 12:13:36

I played this clip to Daniel Ellsberg several years ago, when we were talking about the role of personal bravery and leadership in a world gone mad under the circumstances I would have to say that a reasonable person is could call that a cover-up I didn't think of it.

[c] 12:13:56

As a cover-up. I didn't intend it to cover, let me say, if I intended to cover up, believe me, I'd have done it.

[c] 12:14:04

You know how I could have done it so easily.

[c] 12:14:09

I could have done it immediately after the election, simply by giving clemency to everybody and the whole thing would have gone away.

[c] 12:14:19

I could do that. No, technically, I did not commit a crime, an impeachable offense, as far as the handling of this matter.

[c] 12:14:35

It was so botched up the A. And mother each day when he walks to the sea.

[c] 12:14:49

We're talking to Daniel Ellsberg.

[c] 12:14:50

He's a lecturer, writer, activist, and author now of secrets, a memoir of Vietnam in the Pentagon papers, and I didn't think of it as a cover up.

[c] 12:14:59

II could have got a cover up if I wanted to do a cover-up.

[c] 12:15:03

You know. Actually, that's very interesting. He's right in the sense that if he had taken the heat off people like John Dean and others, by giving clemency to everybody

[c] 12:15:15

Probably the thing would have kept covered up quite a bit, and that raises a question as to he doesn't really explain why he didn't do it.

[c] 12:15:22

I couldn't do that. Why? Because it would be illegal after all, that wasn't his worry.

[c] 12:15:28

We are talking today Daniel Ellsberg, you write about the joint Chiefs of Staff coming up with ways to best provoke an attack on us.

[c] 12:15:37

Forces, by the north. Vietnamese if it proved to get a rise out of them.

[c] 12:15:42

In other words, beat them with a stick until they do something back at you, and then you can really escalate a war congratulations on that background. It's exactly right.

[c] 12:15:50

So you have a good researcher. We do. We have Doria Biddle, our lipstick, Lesbian producer tricks and elocution, mistress and Quaker.

[c] 12:15:59

Hello! Nearly all of the things that he did against me at that time which made him impeachable are legal now under the Patriot Act, in order to silence whistleblowers or to silence dissent for example, he used the CIA against a domestic

[c] 12:16:18

citizen myself. They did a psychological profile on me.

[c] 12:16:22

They provided disguises and other links to me, and a number of their for people who were breaking into my former psychoanalyst's office to get information.

[c] 12:16:31

To blackmail me with how that break into the office would now be legal under the Patriot Act.

[c] 12:16:37

In the context of terrorism and the the fear of terrorism.

[c] 12:16:43

Now the illegal, warrantless wireta on which I was overheard at that time, which figured in the ending of my trial would be legal.

[c] 12:16:52

Now the hiring of the CIA assets and the using so-called assets Cubans who had worked in the Bay of Pigs and now we're used to neutralize Daniel Ellsberg to beat me up and so forth.

[c] 12:17:05

That hiring by the White House, and by others in domestic operations would be legal now, so that isn't to say they wouldn't still be doing it.

[c] 12:17:14

Legal things go beyond even the patriot act, but their hand at doing things that were previously been criminal against American citizens has now been these instruments have now been put in their hands.

[c] 12:17:29

That's what I love about looking back at German history.

[c] 12:17:33

For instance, when we read rise and fall of the third Reich, or study any history, and we see how the effective mechanism that Adolf Hitler used in the Nazi party was to change the laws, so that really everything they did was legal the most horrible surreptitious and to use them 9 elevenths

[c] 12:17:54

and an excuse to go against a crime that was not involved is like, is is is a major deception, and is rather like using Reichstag fire against a to a ban.

[c] 12:18:09

For example, most other parties, Daniel Ellsberg, remembering Richard Nixon, and also foreshadowing recent presidencies, and possibly well, let's just say quasi legal maneuvers.

[c] 12:18:23

Now that the gloves are off, and it's really up to you and me to remain ever vigilant and rethink what heroism can look like for each of us individually going down the road.

[c] 12:18:31

Carrie Harrison with you, and this is rethinking heroes coming up in just a moment.

[c] 12:20:32

We could. We could do all of that, but we still don't, because nobody can tell us.

[c] 12:20:38

But we're not. Why? Because we're still enlightened.

[c] 12:21:08

We're still here. We're still talking to each other.

[c] 12:21:11

We're still hunting for the truth. That's what it matters.

[c] 12:21:14

That's what public radio is always understood. That power of passionate and committed individuals.

[c] 12:21:20

And that's what today is all about. So if you're passionate about the news, and that's what today is all about. So if you're passionate about the news about the law, about real life, about what's going on transparency and government, who and where you are and how you relate to

[c] 12:22:21

All right, Carrie Harrison, with you. You know the tidal wave continues to grow over the military, and government interests, and what we used to call Ufos.

[c] 12:22:31

They're now called Uap, or unidentified anomalous phenomena.

[c] 12:22:34

Say that 1015 times quickly what used to be the domain of the Air Force's famous project, Blue Book, and endlessly passed off as weather balloons, drunken seagulls.

[c] 12:22:43

We now have a new class of heroes, us Air Force pilots tasked with keeping us safe, thanks to technology which is no longer easily dismissed during repeated Uap sightings, a group of pilots have created a nonprofit organization called Americans for safe aerospace a military

[c] 12:23:01

pilot led nonprofit organization, dedicated to aerospace safety and national security with a focus on unidentified, anomalous phenomena.

[c] 12:23:09

As A was founded by Ryan Graves, a former Lieutenant, U.

[c] 12:23:13

S. Navy, Fa. 18 pilot, who was the first active-duty pilot to come forward to Congress about Uap.

[c] 12:23:20

Here's a recent clip from Cnn, in which Lieutenant Graves breaks down the reality of some of these sightings, using official video belonging to the defense.

[c] 12:23:30

A Chinese balloon that floated across the Continental.

[c] 12:23:32

US. Got a lot of attention, and somehow it eclipsed other weirder, unidentified flying objects.

[c] 12:23:43

Hey! Hey!

[c] 12:23:46

Project that, hey? Oh, my gosh! Now it's!

[c] 12:24:04

Former navy fighter, pilot, Brian Graves, has a new article in politico titled, we have a real Ufo problem, and it's not balloons.

[c] 12:24:10

It's not that we were just seeing him out there and somewhat identifying something in in the distance.

[c] 12:24:17

We're using a multitude of sensors on our aircraft and also distributed across multiple aircraft and different platforms that are detecting these objects within us.

[c] 12:24:25

A sensor network. And so when we then correlate those radar tracks with our infrared camera systems, eventually moving closer to detect them with our eyeball, we we have high confidence in those track files.

[c] 12:24:38

And what we're experiencing and what we're experiencing are things that we're really not sure what they are.

[c] 12:24:43

At the end of the day they're performing a number of behaviors that we don't recognize, such as the ability to stay stationary and very high winds with no lifting platforms, no surfaces, but also to maintain speeds of point 6 to point 8 mach which is upwards

[c] 12:24:57

of 350 knots, and they can do that for for many hours on end.

[c] 12:25:04

We don't have the ability to do that in our aircraft.

[c] 12:25:06

We simply don't know who's operating these or what their intent are.

[c] 12:25:11

It's rotating.

[c] 12:25:17

Going against the wind. The winds are hunching, planning out west.

[c] 12:25:24

With me now via Zoom is Ryan Graves, a former navy. Fa.

[c] 12:25:30

18, sorry. FA. 18 F. Pilot, and Gos hawk, instructor, Pilot.

[c] 12:25:35

He deployed aboard the Uss. Enterprise in support of operation, enduring freedom, and again aboard the Uss.

[c] 12:25:41

S enterprise in support of operation, enduring freedom, and again aboard the Uss. Theodore Roosevelt, in support of operation, inherent resolve over Iraq and Syria.

[c] 12:25:46

His elite training is so complicated that you need a manual to unscramble the litany of military acronyms like Jtac.

[c] 12:25:52

Faca, Rmc. Lso. Neetops, Orm and Crm.

[c] 12:25:58

Suffice it to say, this high intelligence and home skill craft found him later leading advanced teams to win and execute Darpa contracts in Eric combat evolution.

[c] 12:26:07

The Air Force's Skyborg program. These are real and other classified projects.

[c] 12:26:12

Getting the message out is another act of bravery. As Ryan Graves is currently host of the merged, podcast a radically, open-minded exploration of unidentified, anomalous phenomena uap through the lens of pyths scientists and

[c] 12:26:26

innovators. Brian Graves would like to welcome you to rethinking heroes.

[Ryan Graves] 12:26:30

Thank you so much for that great introduction. It's a pleasure to be here.

[c] 12:26:33

Well, it's a pleasure to have you here. Anybody who stands up in front of the Government.

[c] 12:26:39

And now NASA is talking about it. There have been official broadcasts, giant conventions of the Federal Government now saying, well, yeah, yeah.

[c] 12:26:50

After 50 years of plaid project, blue book and tin foil hats and project disclosure, and everyone else kind of doing it under.

[c] 12:26:59

You have brought this into the foreground, and you're looking to make government accountable.

[c] 12:27:04

Tell us what that looks like.

[Ryan Graves] 12:27:05

Well, I think what that looks like at the very core of it is just being able to have a conversation and sharing information as it pertains to aviation, safety.

[Ryan Graves] 12:27:15

The Military, the Department of Defense, and even more specifically, the Navy have started reporting these objects on such a regular basis that the all domain, Anomaly Resolution Office, the office charged with investigating this at the Department of Defense had declared that these are a serious aviation Safety

[Ryan Graves] 12:27:33

Hazard, and so there are now reporting mechanisms being stood up within the military.

[Ryan Graves] 12:27:38

So we can perform an analysis and prevent having a midair and all that's occurring.

[Ryan Graves] 12:27:44

In a sense, in a vacuum, because we don't see any of that action happening on the commercial side in the civil sector.

[Ryan Graves] 12:27:50

Pilots are seeing these objects, which is actually a cause for concern, because if you're seeing them, these objects are much closer than perhaps what the military aviators are seeing with their advanced sensors.

[Ryan Graves] 12:28:02

So these commercial pilots are seeing objects at their flight altitudes, and they don't really have a mechanism to report it, and certainly not to have that information follow up on.

[c] 12:28:10

Ryan Graves. I was just looking at, and we just heard audio from actual defense department tapes.

[c] 12:28:16

So this is not Timmy in his basement with his iphone, making wild claims.

[c] 12:28:20

The official stuff, and you more than anyone, as an Air Force pilot, have seen these things, understand the technology and how the recording works.

[c] 12:28:32

What's been your most remarkable and inexplicable encounter or experience during your time in the skies?

[Ryan Graves] 12:28:38

Certainly, so in the 2015 time frame, when I was attached to the Uss.

[Ryan Graves] 12:28:44

Theodore Roosevelt, in the Navy. We were preparing for our deployment to the Middle East, and we're operating off the coast of Jacksonville, Florida.

[Ryan Graves] 12:28:53

And at this time we had been accustomed to seeing these objects in our working areas off the coast of Virginia and North Carolina still know what they are, or we weren't jumping to any conclusions.

[Ryan Graves] 12:29:05

Necessarily we just, you know, eventually, just try to stay away from them and avoid them.

[Ryan Graves] 12:29:08

So we could do our training. But this particular instance we're flying off the aircraft carrier.

[Ryan Graves] 12:29:16

We saw a new type of object that we hadn't seen before wasn't me personally, but it was aircrew that were in my squadron, and that was what's called now the Gimbal video.

[Ryan Graves] 12:29:26

And I think you show that here, just before this, on the intro, and essentially look like a gimbal on the infrared camera system that it was captured on.

[Ryan Graves] 12:29:34

We hadn't seen an object of that side or those performance characteristics, or any of the behaviors really.

[Ryan Graves] 12:29:41

And so that that was very unusual for us.

[Ryan Graves] 12:29:42

We came back I personally heard that my friends had caught something interesting on the camera.

[Ryan Graves] 12:29:49

So we went in, and we went to the debrief and watched these tapes try to get explained in some way, but everyone really had no idea what they were looking at.

[Ryan Graves] 12:29:56

And that particular case has been one that is still, you know, very much in the public sphere, and still a mystery. Today.

[c] 12:30:07

Carrie Harrison with you. This is rethinking heroes, rethinking heroes.

[c] 12:30:11

Comm. We're talking to former Navy F. 18 F.

[c] 12:30:15

Pilot, lieutenant Ryan Graves, of Americans for safe aerospace.

[c] 12:30:20

A military pilot-led nonprofit organization, dedicated to aerospace safety and national security, with a focus on unidentified, anomalous phenomena formerly known as Ufos Lieutenant Graves, remains the first active Duty Pilot to

[c] 12:30:33

come forward to Congress about Uap. Now, what makes this note worthy is that many modern heroes step outside of routine order-taking and use the advanced skills that they were taught in analytical prowess to think critically, critical thinking always an asset in any population whether it be these military vets commercial

[c] 12:30:52

pilots, aerospace workers, anyone impacted by Uap or scientists committed to investigating these mysteries it always boils down to this particular brand of media that you and I are participating in right now.

[c] 12:31:05

And all of us concerns citizens who believe in transparent disclosure from our government, and so pushing a government to open up.

[c] 12:31:13

I mean, let me just say, that's a pretty sexy feat, and many other nations wish you would come and visit even Butt for a week.

[c] 12:31:21

Let me ask you, Ryan Graves, about sort of the physical structure is Dominant. You reported on one.

[c] 12:31:31

We saw that in the Defense Department to escalating at an altitude in super high winds, we're talking greater or equal almost to the speed of sound at wild altitudes in high winds, and just there, for hours like do we have stuff that'll do that?

[Ryan Graves] 12:31:46

Not that I'm aware of and not that we've been able to figure out over the past 9 years.

[Ryan Graves] 12:31:51

These things are performing a ways that don't make sense according to our understanding of aerodynamics.

[Ryan Graves] 12:31:56

They're essentially breaking those rules. And so we have to assume their options in some way that we're just simply not familiar with.

[Ryan Graves] 12:32:02

That's potentially totally different. There are no wings, or there's no mass being propelled out.

[Ryan Graves] 12:32:09

The back of the vehicle, or exhaust.

[Ryan Graves] 12:32:12

There's no propellers spinning. There's no strong admissions in in the frequencies that we can detect in our jet.

[Ryan Graves] 12:32:20

So really for us. We don't understand how they're working, and not only how they're working, but how they're able to work so well over such a very, very long period of time.

[c] 12:32:29

So this could be what we're called in the 19 fifties, you know, Russian bogies.

[c] 12:32:36

That was just basically anything. But these could be potentially Chinese.

[c] 12:32:41

We're not talking weather balloons here. But this could be technology.

[c] 12:32:44

Well beyond our own, in which case we're talking national security threats, not little green men, or it could be both.

[c] 12:32:52

Do you have a sense of which either both?

[Ryan Graves] 12:32:55

Well for us at American for safe aerospace. We just have to stop at the uncertainty piece and recognize that as the problem.

[Ryan Graves] 12:33:03

Right now we recognize when we start to delve into what those uncertain objects are, those uncorrelated targets we're going to find.

[Ryan Graves] 12:33:09

Likely they're going to fall into one of 2 buckets.

[Ryan Graves] 12:33:12

Either national security issue from a foreign adversary that's penetrating our airspace or potentially something new that we haven't been able to see before.

[Ryan Graves] 12:33:20

And that's reason for scientific curiosity and integrity.

[Ryan Graves] 12:33:23

And so for us. It's very simple.

[Ryan Graves] 12:33:25

Bifurcation along those lines we see the Department of Defense now standing up in order to secure and look at those national security concerns, especially after what happened with the Chinese balloon.

[Ryan Graves] 12:33:36

But we're not necessarily seeing the uptick in science right now.

[Ryan Graves] 12:33:41

One of the reasons is because a lot of the expert has been walk behind classification barriers right now, and the scientific community and academic community have been slow to stand up on this topic due to the stigma involved and that's one of the things that we're pushing for at American safe aerospace

[Ryan Graves] 12:33:56

overall reduction of stigma on this topic through, you know, through increased reporting, through public communication on this topic, through the sharing of data, so that the Joan public can understand the reality of the situation.

[c] 12:34:10

Former Air, Force Pilot, Ryan Graves. What do you believe sets apart genuine Uap, formerly known as Ufo sightings from misidentified or explainable phenomena.

[c] 12:34:22

How do you personally discern between them? I say this as a civilian, because I have no idea.

[Ryan Graves] 12:34:28

Yes, certainly a number of ways at at the core of it.

[Ryan Graves] 12:34:32

There's really 2 ways you can look to assess everything in the sky and identify anomalies, and then we target into those anomalies as it becomes clear.

[Ryan Graves] 12:34:41

And another methodology. You could look for evidence of signals that exist in current data, or perhaps active or passive sensor systems that already exist and look to target those individuals.

[Ryan Graves] 12:34:57

Specific signals. So those efforts are being done by various organizations.

[Ryan Graves] 12:35:00

The various degrees, and I would venture a guess that will likely have luck with one of those methods in a not too distant future.

[c] 12:35:07

Ryan graves. Have you encountered any patterns or recurring behaviors in the behavior of Uaps that could provide insights into their origins or intentions?

[Ryan Graves] 12:35:19

That's part of what we need to do. We need to start to look at the data more broadly.

[Ryan Graves] 12:35:23

We need to be able to zoom out. See where where the data exists.

[Ryan Graves] 12:35:29

Outside of just military training zones where our high tech sensors are one of the ways we're gathering.

[Ryan Graves] 12:35:36

Information about this is that safe aerospace.org.

[Ryan Graves] 12:35:38

There you can sign up to be a member of our organization, and we've been receiving a lot of reports from commercial pilots.

[Ryan Graves] 12:35:46

Former military folks. And this data, you know, it might seem anecdotal, but en masse, when you gather a lot of that anecdotal together you you can start pulling out patterns and things of that nature.

[Ryan Graves] 12:35:55

And so that's another way that we can start to PIN down more information on this topic.

[c] 12:36:00

Carrie Harris with you. This is rethinking heroes, rethinking heroes.

[c] 12:36:04

Dot com. We're talking a former navy, fa. 18 F. Pilot.

[c] 12:36:09

Lieutenant Ryan Graves of Americans for safe aerospace investigating how to not only keep our aerospace safe from whatever, but what that, whatever might be you do, have this project, it's a podcast among many other things, where you're not just rambling about this but you're, actually

[c] 12:36:26

bringing, on the top of the top people to very soberly analyze whether they're scientists.

[c] 12:36:32

Other pilots, commercial pilots, military pilots, eyewitnesses, people who can actually intellectually wrap their head around it and try to break this down into some kind of understanding.

[c] 12:36:46

Are you guys heading in any direction where you sort of feel that you can synthesize this yet?

[Ryan Graves] 12:36:52

Absolutely we to your point. You know we just had so many pilots reach out.

[Ryan Graves] 12:36:57

We wanted to give them, you know, essentially a safe same platform to share their experiences without fear of repercussions of their job by having a high-level pilot pilot conversation.

[Ryan Graves] 12:37:06

And we're gonna continue to develop those content and bring those out share those because we wanna be able to use this conversations way to Cisco.

[Ryan Graves] 12:37:14

This community bring some of these stories to light, and also demonstrate some of the technology solutions.

[Ryan Graves] 12:37:19

And social solutions that we could put on this problem or to move it forward.

[c] 12:37:24

You know, going back to the 19 fifties, and I believe it was under the Eisenhower Administration Project, Blue Book, which was the very delicate dance around unidentified flying objects, neither admitting nor denying best assessment.

[c] 12:37:41

Have a nice day let's all move along. But clearly something was going on in there.

[c] 12:37:46

Everyone is aware of. Where is it? In Newmx? Roswell?

[c] 12:37:51

Everyone is aware of that. Maybe we could just jump there for a second only because everyone is aware of it.

[c] 12:37:59

Have you gotten any insight into what that was all about?

[Ryan Graves] 12:38:02

No, unfortunately I don't. You know. I'm familiar with the war, and you know some of the history behind it.

[Ryan Graves] 12:38:09

But I think, as we look at some of the legislation that's been passed in and up last National Defense Authorization Act, it does.

[Ryan Graves] 12:38:16

It does account for a recollection all the way back to 1945.

[Ryan Graves] 12:38:23

And so the intent here is, if that information does exist, that legislation.

[Ryan Graves] 12:38:28

Supposedly she gets to the bottom of it, so I'm eager to see how that plays out.

[c] 12:38:31

When you, Ryan Graves went up and addressed Congress about all of this and said, You guys really have to take this seriously, and you talk about stigma because there is there is the old canard of the tin foil hat and then people roll their eyes you're dismissed immediately and never spoke

[c] 12:38:49

it, again. But you're speaking to the governmental body.

[c] 12:38:52

That legislates that creates the laws and cuts the checks for the United States.

[c] 12:38:56

And you're telling them to pay serious attention I imagine that was an uphill battle with a certain amount of stigma.

[c] 12:39:03

But you actually created a tipping point, and I'm fascinated.

[c] 12:39:07

How you did that like we all wanna know. How do you do that?

[Ryan Graves] 12:39:10

I don't know if I can take that much credit for it.

[Ryan Graves] 12:39:13

You know, there was a lot of activity by a lot of people that seem to be happening just due to the momentum of the topic itself, and the importance of it.

[Ryan Graves] 12:39:20

And so, you know, for me, I was just seeing opportunities to add value to the conversation, and I just continued to do so.

[Ryan Graves] 12:39:28

I think there was a bit of a vacuum just based off of the topic, and that stigma.

[Ryan Graves] 12:39:33

And so, you know, being able to enter vacuum, you know, allowed me to expand into it. So I think you know there was just by willingness to be embarrassed or not to be afraid of the conversation, and gave me those opportunities to be able to help guide the conversation.

[c] 12:39:49

Alright. Well, in just a moment we're going to talk about.

[c] 12:39:52

How do you hold on to your set of manly parts, and not get too afraid?

[c] 12:39:59

And face, you know a giant wall of snarling tigers, and still pursue that's something that I think all of us even if we had 2% of that could move a lot farther in our own personal lives. So I'd be interested in that plus we'll take a look at your

[c] 12:40:15

foundation and what you're actually doing, what you're learning and what we can expect out of it in the future.

[c] 12:40:19

As we continue to talk to Lieutenant Ryan Graves, who is the first military pilot to have actually stood up in front of the government, and said, This stuff is real.

[c] 12:40:31

You need to look into it. We're going to look at that in just a second.

[c] 12:40:35

We are in complete control, rethinking heroes with Carrie Harrison, rethinking heroes.com.

[Ryan Graves] 12:40:40

Preventing truth, decay, rethinking heroes with Kerry Harrison, rethinking heroes, calm.

[c] 12:42:33

Alright, Carrie Harrison, with you. As we finish up a conversation with Lieutenant Ryan Graves, of Americans for safe aerospace.

[c] 12:42:41

A military pilot led nonprofit organization, dedicated to national security.

[c] 12:42:46

It looks like he may have dropped off I can't quite see if he still there, Ryan, I'm hoping you're still there.

[c] 12:42:51

Maybe you dropped off. In any event, what he has been doing in his organization is finding out what these Uaps are unidentified, anomalous phenomena and tracking them.

[c] 12:43:05

There is defense department, footage that bears this out you've been able to see it.

[c] 12:43:10

You'll see it if you go to rethinking heroes calm, you'll be able to see it.

[c] 12:43:13

If you go to the Kpfk Facebook page you'd be able to see what some of this actual defense department footage looks like.

[c] 12:43:20

And it's extraordinary to note that anybody was able to move the needle in that direction and make it happen unbelievable.

[c] 12:43:27

Great heroism, and part of what it takes to get it done.

[c] 12:43:32

Let's just finish up the show. By talking a little bit more about Kpfk.

[c] 12:43:37

If Ryan returns we'll make sure we bring it back on hopefully.

[c] 12:43:40

He's still there, but we'll see in just a moment one of the things that we get to do here at this radio station, which is very similar to what this military pilot did while standing in front of Congress.

[c] 12:43:52

Is, he was able to take a personal giant. So imagine your credibility first of all, you're highly trained.

[c] 12:43:59

This guy was dealing with AI on molecular levels, constructing and creating new ways to fly airplanes.

[c] 12:44:10

So no layabout, no slouch, no slob, and what he did was stand up in front of a government body that is admittedly, if you've watched any television, read the newspaper, observed any public media in the past number of years we have the most cynical Congress we have ever dealt with we have a

[c] 12:44:29

Congress that will refuse to swear in judges refuse to look at anybody in any government position, to be brought in because they may be of the wrong political party.

[c] 12:44:41

And what does that speak to? What does that remind you of in other countries?

[c] 12:44:45

It's shocking if you dare even make the analogy. So we don't make the analogy because it's forbidden, because we must enjoy the myth, that this is this unbelievably not corrupt free flowing open society but unfortunately, it's not so when

[c] 12:45:06

you go up against them, and you tell them, look, we've got footage of this stuff, and it's not just, you know.

[c] 12:45:12

Maybe project Blue Book stuff, but it could be the enemy, whatever the enemy means, flying around in monitoring us at triple the speed of sound and able to hang for 1 h in one position in high winds.

[c] 12:45:26

We have no such aircraft, no such technology that can do that, and therefore it falls outside the scope of anything we know about, and that is frightening to stand up in front of a government body that are not scientists.

[c] 12:45:41

Some of them are barely lawyers. They're all very rich, most of them don't want to take a risk.

[c] 12:45:48

Put their neck out. Look embarrassed, look shocked, and he pushed this thing into openness.

[c] 12:45:54

Because really it's not just about how safe are the skies, which is everything for a pilot.

[c] 12:46:00

But how open is your government and that's the part that you and I want, and if that's the side effect of all of this, where NASA is now opening up the defense department is now opening up.

[c] 12:46:11

You might for the first time in your life, in your living life, ever get a glimpse into your own defense department, and therefore have some sway into decisions that are made, and how long you get to stay alive.

[c] 12:46:24

If bad decisions are made, you know, you look back at Stanley Kramer and Kubrick, the doctor.

[c] 12:46:32

Strange loves of it all. They weren't kidding I mean, that stuff was real personal story.

[c] 12:46:37

My father, who was in the Air Force in the was a notorious drinker.

[c] 12:46:44

Notorious drinker, and he sat in the Officers Club and boozed it up with all the pilots.

[c] 12:46:52

He boozed it up. He was an officer, so he poozed it up with all the other officers, you know, very likable guy.

[c] 12:46:59

Everyone liked him. He got this great idea in the late 19 fifties that it was time to actually bomb the rushes.

[c] 12:47:05

Enough, enough of these commis. Get rid of them, and this is priests fail-safe, which happened in the early sixties back.

[c] 12:47:12

Then there were code books and ring binders, and you cracked the plastic and you read the code.

[c] 12:47:18

But you knew sort of how to break through all of that, and he was in charge in Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota.

[c] 12:47:27

B. 52 s. That flew 24 HA day, laden with nuclear bombs.

[c] 12:47:33

They flew over Russia, they flew over the whole world 24 HA day, not landing, they were refueled in the air, so they were.

[c] 12:47:40

Battle ready, and he called up to one of these planes and got partial codes, and they wouldn't do it.

[c] 12:47:49

They would not follow through, thank God! But you know, if this is just my own father, sure, different era, different time.

[c] 12:47:56

But this stuff is happening every day with lunatics that are passionate about finishing a problem, not getting that the whole problem ends up being us, and we all get finished.

[c] 12:48:08

This is why transparency in government is critical.

[c] 12:48:12

This is why you're being ever vigilant as Tommy Jefferson would remind you, is so important.

[c] 12:48:19

That's why a station like Kpfk is so important.

[c] 12:48:24

Because we stay awake. We don't go to sleep.

[c] 12:48:26

We follow this stuff all the time at our own pill, at our own discomfort, and, like me as a volunteer, and if I don't do it, and others don't do it, it doesn't get done, and then what do you have relaxing easy favorites well good luck on that if you'll

[c] 12:48:47

remember Michael Jackson, you'll never forget Michael Jackson.

[c] 12:48:50

But there was a time when what used to be called clear channel was busted publicly, and you found out exactly how not interested they were in helping you out.

[c] 12:49:01

So Michael Jackson had died, and it took 3 days for the news departments.

[c] 12:49:07

That was the largest radio operator at the time. 3 days for them to start to do live news about Michael Jackson, because they had computerized.

[c] 12:49:18

They had fired back in 2,008, 60,000 live radio people whose job whereas to, you know, cover the news.

[c] 12:49:28

Follow the news? Do research, fact check. You had a local weather guy.

[c] 12:49:32

You had a local traffic guy, all of them wiped out, replaced by computer, where one guy, one guy, could record for 1,500 stations.

[c] 12:49:44

A music show that could air on bunches of stations, and all he had to do was take 2 days and record call letters W.

[c] 12:49:52

Blah, blah blah blah blah blah.

[c] 12:49:54

And then the computer would just drop them in, and it would sound like he was saying them.

[c] 12:49:57

So you've reduced a stat of 60,000 people, and I'm making an analogy to AI.

[c] 12:50:04

And what is to come, and I don't care how much we all wish.

[c] 12:50:07

Oh, AI is here to help me, because these companies just want to help me.

[c] 12:50:12

They would love paying for unemployment, compensation.

[c] 12:50:16

They love paying 400 oneks. They love being sued for fill in the blank when they misbehave so they just want to spend even more money creating AI just to help me.

[c] 12:50:31

No so just like radio operators, they blow out 60,000 live humans.

[c] 12:50:37

Their overhead shrinks their profit. Margins go through the roof and they syndicate everything.

[c] 12:50:45

So one guy now does a show on 1,500 stations.

[c] 12:50:49

The same music show, like Kc Caseem. If you remember this guy, things like that that were sort of 19 seventies, syndication models very rare. Back then.

[c] 12:50:59

But then you had Rush, and you had everyone else, and they serviced hundreds, if not thousands, of radio stations.

[c] 12:51:06

Same with these music shows, and you just drop in the call letters.

[c] 12:51:11

You have a weather service that is based in Oklahoma, doing your la traffic, your la Weather.

[c] 12:51:16

They're not even here, they're watching it on a computer.

[c] 12:51:19

They have no idea what the 405 is or is not.

[c] 12:51:24

It doesn't matter to them, and that's how it is on commercial stations.

[c] 12:51:27

So that's things to come. And that's why, at this stage we don't do that.

[c] 12:51:32

If something happens, we are able to go there right then pick up a phone and even play it through a phone.

[c] 12:51:39

If that's what we have to do, you have to remember Pacifica Network was the network back when Rosa Parks was arrested.

[c] 12:51:47

That actually went to her jail cell, stuck a microphone through the bars and asked her what happened.

[c] 12:51:54

Now, many of us in school were taught an alternative story.

[c] 12:51:58

I was taught an alternative story. I was taught that she was protesting that she went to the front of the bus, and she refused to go to the back of the boss and so started a movie.

[c] 12:52:08

All that is true in a general way, but if you listen to our unique tapes, we're the only ones that have them.

[c] 12:52:17

By the way, Pacifica, our archives are so magnificently rare you find out she was a cleaning lady, and her feet hurt like hell.

[c] 12:52:27

After working couple of jobs she was trying to get to the back of the bus.

[c] 12:52:30

But you know slipped twisted, or ankle whatever, and fell into a front seat and couldn't get up fast enough while she was being yelled at, and so that turned into, I think, just basically, her collapsing.

[c] 12:52:43

And it became and retold a critical political movement of which she participated.

[c] 12:52:51

No doubt about it, but you have to hear the real audio, and that's what we're doing here right now is we're saving that real audio real-to-reel tapes are magnetic.

[c] 12:53:02

You probably remember cassette tapes, you might still have them if you've ever thrown one in a cassette player, you'll hear it's kind of echoing, and you'll hear parts that you already.

[c] 12:53:14

Heard coming through. Well, because all that magnetism starts to bleed into each other and so each separate piece of tape is no longer filled with individual audio.

[c] 12:53:23

It just starts to bleed and merge and one of the things we have to do here at Kpfk, here at Pacifica is archive.

[c] 12:53:31

Those tapes as digitally transfer them, so that that never happens.

[c] 12:53:36

It already has to a great degree, too much of our archives, because it's very expensive, and these tapes are made out of a very old material.

[c] 12:53:45

You put it, we call it spooling it up into a big old reeled a real machine that tape can break bam gone!

[c] 12:53:52

It's thin. It's brittle like a 78 rpm. Record.

[c] 12:53:57

If you've ever encountered one, the older they get you pick it up.

[c] 12:53:59

It just cracks in half same kind of idea. So sometimes you have to soak these tapes.

[c] 12:54:04

There's a lot that goes into it. So radio, as you know it, and what we do here in getting information, as you know, it is not just cracking a mic and it's all automated.

[c] 12:54:16

It is not automated. This is not a giant syndication machine playing endless commercials and relaxing whatever their slogan is.

[c] 12:54:27

This is a place where everything that matters to your life, to your survivability, to your ability to navigate crucially through your own future, hangs in the balance and this is one of the only places you'll find out what your options, and you'll hear the voices of people who are standing out trying to open up government trying to ask questions trying to

[c] 12:54:48

make sense of the senselessness that we're sold simply to swallow so I want to pick you.

[c] 12:54:53

I want you to pick up your phone right now and call 8, point 1 8 9 8 5 kpfk, pick up that phone call (818) 985-5735, and make a donation.

[c] 12:55:04

Knowing that this money goes somewhere. This money is the educational system of today that apparently is lacking I don't know how many people, you know that are boasting about the public school system.

[c] 12:55:18

I haven't met a single one. Frankly, private school systems are still very good, but those are private school systems, and most people are not going to private school systems, so they don't get access to the range of motion and history that we discuss here freely for the general public and by the way, when you listen here

[c] 12:55:41

you're not tracked. You're not monitored.

[c] 12:55:44

There's no cookies. There's no evidence you were ever here completely anonymous, and millions of people can tune into our signal the strongest FM.

[c] 12:55:54

West of the Mississippi, and the bandwidth does not diminish as it does on the Internet.

[c] 12:55:58

It's powerful stuff, and everything we do becomes school for someone else.

[c] 12:56:04

So if you think education is important, if you think people are Knitwits and not woke, or too woke, or whatever the problem is, and they need more access to real information and not have it impeded, disrupted, then you need to support Kpfk you need to pick up, the phone call 8 1 8 9 8 5

[c] 12:56:23

Kpfk. Make a $50 donation, make a $100 donation to 818, 9, 8, 5, 5, 7, 3, 5, 8, 1, 8, 9, 8, 9, 8, 5, 5,735.

[c] 12:56:33

If you're modern, jump on the Internet, make a secure donation at Kpfk Org, Kpfk Org, Carrie Harrison, with you.

[c] 12:56:42

This is rethinking heroes I actually adore talking about saving and supporting these public acts, such as what we have here at Kpfk and Pacifica.

[c] 12:56:55

I adore it. Why? Because without it there is nothing. Where do you go?

[c] 12:57:00

How many times a week do people ask you, where do I find my news?

[c] 12:57:04

And you go. I don't know. I don't know, and that's the right answer.

[c] 12:57:10

I don't know. There is no reliable Walter Cronkite anymore.

[c] 12:57:15

There is no reliable, anything, it's all just selfies.

[c] 12:57:20

Kardashianism, and complete and utter nonsense.

[c] 12:57:22

You have to actually go to channels in Europe to find out what's going on here in the Us.

[c] 12:57:28

That's wrong. It's just wrong, but that's because they fired every single journalist at every single paper, every single TV station that did that sort of thing.

[c] 12:57:38

So you really you can't know unless you listen to Kpfk.

[c] 12:57:42

So let me just finish by saying, pick up the phone call a 1, 8, 9, 8, 5, kpfk, 8, 1, 8, 9, 8, 5 and 7, 3, 5.

[c] 12:57:50

Make a $50 donation right now, boy, does that money go a long, long way?

[c] 12:57:56

Permanent shelf life, the shelf life of Education, 8, 1, 8, 9, 8, 9, 8, 5, kpfk, (818) 985-5735, make $100, donation double the pleasure double the fund, double the amount of brains that get impacted positively by your efforts your

[c] 12:58:24

Terry Harrison with you. This is rethinking heroes, preventing truth, decay, rethinking heroes with Carrie Harrison, rethinking heroes, calm.

[K P F K] 12:58:39

Is it possible to keep raising funds for kpfk while honoring the iconic host of some things happening?

[K P F K] 12:58:47

The late great Roy of Hollywood. We think so.

[K P F K] 12:58:50

Please tune into inner vision this Friday, at 1 50

So, Are we talking about wrapping tinfoil around the top of your head? No. This is deadly serious business because as Americans for Safe Aerospace posits in military speak… Identifying domain awareness gaps is critical to U.S. national security. If UAP are foreign assets, we must respond appropriately. If UAP continue to defy conventional explanation — we must invest in scientific research.

With me now via Zoom is Ryan Graves - a former Navy F-A18F pilot and Gaws-hawk instructor pilot. He deployed aboard the USS Enterprise in support of Operation Enduring Freedom… and again aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt in support of Operation Inherent Resolve over Iraq & Syria.  His elite training is so complicated that you’d need a manual to unscramble the litany of military acronyms like JTAC/FAC(A), (RMC), (LSO), NATOPS/ORM and CRM.  Suffice it to say his high intelligence and honed skillcraft, found him later leading advanced teams to win and execute DARPA contracts in Air Combat Evolution, the Air Force's Skyborg program – these are real… and other classified projects.

Ep. 20: Why Politicians Are Obsessed With Gay | Disney's Real Passion | Greg Palast on His Film, "Vigilante' 18 Jun 202300:44:22

Thanks for reading Rethinking Heroes with Cary Harrison! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work.

The Army is changing the way it measures body fat on soldiers … to make sure that its force remains fit for duty. When a soldier’s weight is too much in relation to their height … the Army has relied on measuring the soldier and then using a complicated equation to determine if they have too much body fat. The measurements were taken at different locations for men and women .. and soldiers often complained that it was inaccurate.

[c] 12:22:06

One of the award presenters was up there and referred to “Ron DeSantis as the Imperial Wizard Oops, I mean the Governor of Florida”.

[c] 12:22:16

If you live in Florida, or you intend to go, and you've already been cautioned not to go, because if you're an African-american, it is considered officially by the Naacp as

[c] 12:22:30

unsafe. It may or may not be, but it is inhospitable, because the second you step there.

[c] 12:22:36

If you walk onto school grounds and claim that your ancestors might have been inducted here, brought here in chains, and there was such a thing as slavery.

[c] 12:22:45

That could be a third-degree felony, and if you're a teacher and you happen to mention it, you might go to the hoosegow; and worse what if you have a gay nephew and you bring it up somewhere on Campus, like in the cafeteria? Well, you could could be in handcuffs under this guy.

[c] 12:23:01

Why not, or, better yet, have his private police force? The neo-nazis all over the State of Florida - literally planting swastikas on the property of a fortune 500 company, Disney, with the governor/presidential candidate’s name on attending signage.

[c] 12:23:08

Just come in and beat you up you know. That's pretty effective, and possibly not illegal.

[c] 12:23:13

We're still not sure how those things are going to work out yet, because it's not. Let's just say it's not illegal it might be unlawful, but with gunshows every other day who's to say so the fun is just beginning this guy wants to be your President he's banking on

[c] 12:23:28

the fact that Donald Trump is going to go to the Slammer, which I don't think is going to happen, because if you open the door and you start putting presidents in the Slammer and holding them accountable, then nobody else is safe, and I mean the people under them like all the Senators… all

[c] 12:23:43

the Congressmen, all the way down the food chain, everyone being held accountable.

[c] 12:23:49

I mean, I'm getting hard thinking about that, but it's never going to happen, not in this country, in its current state.

[c] 12:23:54

But we're going to get into that with the great Greg Palace down the road, in just a handful of minutes.

Ep. 19: VA Chief Talks Alzheimer’s | Shipping Cluster Bombs To Ukraine 11 Jun 202300:59:00

* It’s now estimated that around 7 million people 65 and older are living with Alzheimer’s dementia in the United States – a progressive disease that involves the deterioration of nerve cells in the brain, which in turn affects thoughts, memory, and language.  The Department of Veterans Affairs is committed to providing care and support to Veterans and their caregivers impacted by Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. In recognition of Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, Dr. Catherine Kelso, Deputy Executive Director of the VA Office of Geriatrics & Extended Care… of the Veterans Health Administration… joins us to discuss how the VA is paving the way for research and treatment.  *Care for Veterans with Alzheimer’s or dementia is provided throughout the full range of VA health care services. Depending on the Veteran's needs, services may include Home Based Primary Care, Homemaker and Home Health Aide, Respite Care, Adult Day Health Care, outpatient clinic, inpatient hospital, Nursing Home, Palliative Care, or Hospice Care. Caregiver Support is also an essential part of these services. For more information, you can visit VA.gov/geriatrics

* Most of us have heard of cluster bombs.  Last year the media extensively covered the Russian use of cluster bombs in Ukraine… condemning them as immoral and illegal.  Chalk it up to incompetence because the same Media generally accepted our use of cluster bombs across various wars.  But after sufficient financial lobbying, several Congress Members are now proposing to send cluster bombs to Ukraine … and the same media is completely silent.

Thanks for reading Rethinking Heroes with Cary Harrison! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work.

But, let’s break down what these cluster bombs are so you get the issue:  We’ll use the now-silent New York Times description: "Internationally banned cluster munitions” are “a variety of weapons — rockets, bombs, missiles, and artillery projectiles — that disperse lethal bomblets in midair over a wide area, hitting military targets and civilians alike.” And the Times noted that cluster bombs “kill so indiscriminately that they are banned under international law.”  If they’re banned under international law, then why would you send a bunch of them out internationally?  I’m not asking you to think. ‘Cause, If we all started thinking, there might be a big problem with the smoothness of the tennis game at the top.  Yet, by provoking thought, we can help people to understand the complex issues involved.

Let’s look at Democratic Congressman Adam Smith from Washington… who’s the ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee … said he’s “open to” America shipping cluster munitions to Ukraine.  Let me just say, It’s not bad enough with the collapsed Soviet-era dam having flooded a region of Ukraine…. But landmines are also being dislodged by the floodwaters, are now floating loose. The Red Cross's weapon contamination unit… said they’d lost track of where the landmines even are at this point.  And then, there’s one of the world’s largest nuclear power plants… that relied on that dam for coolant to avoid a meltdown.

Now, the Congressional idea is to ship crates of cluster bombs to add to the floating land mines, a compromised and thirsty nuclear power plant, and a flooded out and helpless population.  No amount of sarcasm or snide commentary can capture the idiocy of it all.

This is why we are lucky to have this next Rethinking Hero who has spent decades unearthing the truth with an uphill bulldozer of facts and intellect… against an avalanche of downhill poltroonery and knuckle-walking mountebankery.  What makes a hero in today’s Orwellian orgasm of media madness? Where Tolstoy is a rube compared to supreme influencers like Kim, Kloe, or Kaitlin Kardashian. Where Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis are the heralded saints in this Brave New World?

Let me introduce acclaimed veteran political analyst, Norman Solomon, the Institute for Public Accuracy’s executive director.  He’s also author of War Made Easy, and the newly-released, War Made Invisible.  This is what a hero looks like:  Mr. Solomon and the IPA have increased dramatically the reach and capacity of grassroots organizations (at no cost to them) the ability to address public policy by getting them and their ideas into the mainstream media, us included here on Rethinking Heroes. So, the IPA gains media access for those whose voices are commonly excluded or drowned out by government or corporate-backed institutions. Everybody loves that!  And For journalists, Mr. Solomon’s detailed set of constantly-updated databases of policy analysts, scholars, and other independent researchers … are truly indispensable.  Via Zoom from San Francisco, Norman Solomon, I want to welcome you to Rethinking Heroes.

Ep. 18: What Swedes Are Really Giving Up for NATO | Pentagon Leak: "We Nearly Averted WWIII" | NASA Admits UFO Possibilities03 Jun 202300:58:29

* JAN OBERG – Sweden, Ground Zero of this soon to be new NATO territory. Mr. Oberg is co-founder of the Swedish-based Transnational Foundation for Peace and Future Research.  He just wrote the piece "Provocative NATO undermines security of the Nordic region," which states that Finland and Sweden joining NATO would mean abandoning the neutrality that served them well for so long.  In other words, Sweden, along with Denmark and Norway will now have to accept foreign troops (similar to a permanent occupation) and pre-positioning of other people’s weapons on their territories. Yet, Iceland remains an un-armed member… providing the World War II-era Naval Keflavik Base.

* James Bamford has written extensively about the NSA and espionage – A topic close to the sensibility of everyone listening or watching Rethinking Heroes.  We’ve had veterans on this program from CIA spooks to World War II heroes… and all of them agree that any government overreach is not good in any country.  He says that unnoticed among the trove of documents in the Pentagon leak that he reported on is an account of how a recent miscommunication between a Russian pilot and his base… came perilously close to starting World War III.

*Bonus: Mr. Bamford also discovered that the Israeli equivalent of the NSA was "eavesdropping on the Russians … who were, themselves, spying on the Clinton campaign and the DNC.  The Israelis… Our allies … that receive billions of dollars a year from us …. Decided not to give it to the president at the time - Obama… And instead, secretly gave it to the Trump campaign.”  Cary asks, “What would be the benefit for Israel to help Donald Trump become president?”

* Dan Harary is author of the original science-fiction novel ….After They Came … a book now heralded and embraced by over a dozen of America’s leading UFO Researchers and Experts. Harary has been a member of the Southern California Chapter of the Mutual UFO Network – MUFON – since 2003. Dan Harary has personally witnessed three UFO sightings in his life: one in 1970 in New Jersey with his father; one in 1996 near Edwards Air Force Base; one at Washington State’s E-CETI Ranch – a globally renowned UFO hotspot.

Ep. 17: Inside Berlin's Secret Underground Nazi Bunkers | Hiroshima redux as current Nukes stay on hair-trigger alert | A giant gay party in Orlando in the face of a Presidential candidate.28 May 202300:57:40

* The Nazi bunkers in Berlin were a series of underground shelters that were built during World War II? . They were used to protect Nazi officials and their families from Allied bombing raids. The most famous of these bunkers is the Führerbunker – or the bunker for the Fuhrer-  which was where Adolf Hitler and his so-called wife, Eva Braun – after 10 years of no record of kissing or dating…. committed suicide on April 30, 1945.

The first Nazi bunkers in Berlin were built in 1936, as a temporary air-raid shelter for Hitler. These bunkers were located in the garden of the Reich Chancellery, and were known as the Vorbunker ("forward bunker"). In 1944, as the Allied bombing raids on Berlin intensified, the Vorbunker was expanded to create the Führerbunker. The Führerbunker was dug below that ….and was connected to it by a series of newly-found tunnels.

The Führerbunker was actually a complex of 30 rooms, and was equipped with its own power plant, water supply, and ventilation system. It was also heavily guarded by the SS.  Hitler and his staff moved into the Führerbunker in January 1945, as the Battle of Berlin raged on. The bunker became increasingly crowded as the war drew to a close, and by the end of April, it was home to over 100 people.

*   The upcoming anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki may be more poignant right now than it has ever been in the past. We heard last week on Rethinking Heroes from Dennis Fritz from US Space Command and NORAD that our nuclear weapons, here, are on here trigger alert, as are those of the Russians. It does not get more DEFCON scary than that. So I put together a documentary for you to lay out the sequences of how such any event could occur again – this time with weapons thousands of times stronger and with the capability of destroying all life on earth. We find out that the brave military men that were doing what they thought was right at the time, never knew what they were actually being sent to do. The creation of the Manhattan project and fat man and little boy was so top-secret that many bombardiers didn’t even know what was being loaded into their planes.

·      The bombing killed an estimated 140,000 people instantly, and another 60,000 died in the following months from radiation sickness. The city was completely destroyed, and the blast and heat effects were felt for miles around.

The atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki remain the only use of nuclear weapons in an armed conflict. They are a reminder of the destructive power of nuclear weapons and the importance of peace.

The Hiroshima bombing was a horrific event that killed and injured hundreds of thousands of people. It is a reminder of the destructive power of nuclear weapons and the importance of peace.

A Cary Harrison/Rethinking Heroes original radio documentary that plays some rare audio and tells the secret history of what ultimately took us into the long-lasting Cold War.

* As one of our major political parties sees their candidate overtly attacking people of color and LGBT, the entire educational system, literacy, and basic human decency, one of the groups under direct assault – the LGBT community of the entire state of Florida has found a way to respond. While the human rights campaign has put out a travel advisory against the state of Florida – as if it were Yemen or Syria… wrap your head around a travel advisory for an entire US state on American soil. What would you have to do to actually have a double travel advisory from both the African-American and LGBT sectors? How bad could it actually be for 2 complete population groups to put out travel advisories cautioning all living creatures to avoid exposure in one of our own 50 states? This is not what our service members went overseas to risk their lives to return to.  This is a new level of outrageous that we have never seen before.

It is now a third-degree felony in the state of Florida – to read books on paper in public that could contain content that an illiterate person who literally cannot read might have had banned at the recommendation of a governor – a governor who happens to be a failed history teacher, according to the New York Times, Raw story, and a dozen other media outlets that researched governor Ron DeSantis before his most recent run. A failed history teacher is now in charge of history for a population of 23 million people.  This is the stuff of Orwell and Huxley or comedy central.  But, it is real lives that hang in the balance.

But as a brilliant way to combat the stated war zone that is now the state of Florida – formally known as the sunshine state, this next hero has rethought a form of positive civil disobedience that will flood the state with fresh Tourism. While the governor has destroyed Tourism, knocked Disney off its axis, lost a $1 billion project with 20,000 new jobs, this hero has devised a benefit to the residents of his state; a benefit to his state economy. A reminder to the residents of Florida -who have no voice in the politics of their own governor…  that their state is one of Tourism and not a glowing sepulcher for the freshly-exhumed body of the late Anita Bryant.

What if a savvy entrepreneur threw one of largest parties the state of Florida has ever seen? What if his guest list came from all 50 states and Europe? We all know it’s the answer to ku kluxery, racism, and closeted politicians – not to mention, just plain bad manners.  With me is Joseph Clark, the CEO of GayDays which is breathing some enormous financial breath back into Orlando’s Disney World… which has steadfastly defended the first amendment and the voices of people smaller than itself (Disney) and all the folks who are not able to defend themselves from a gigantic state government.  Mr. Clark – who comes from an enormous sports franchise background… will be bringing in over 150,000 tourists to the city of Orlando to wash it in money, enjoy its hospitality, have the complete Disney-supported experience, and squeegee the soiled glass of the Tallahassee funhouse mirror.  If you really want to see real power, inspire people show up to an event. Cowards can only intimidate people to disappear.

·     Joseph Clark, the CEO of GayDays you’ve worked with the Pittsburgh Pirates (an MLB Team), NBA All Stars, the Kentucky Derby, Texas A&M College Football, The U.S. Open Tennis Tournament, and many more.  You recently left to work full-time with Gay Days, inc. as CEO & Co-Owner.  You come from a giant sports background and I’ve translated it into fun with a totally cool message…
