How SmartSweets Went From $0 to $360M in 4 Years: Case Study09 Sep 202600:21:27

I help entrepreneurs create their idea, launch, get to the first seven figures, and then prepare for a life-changing exit. The playbook we use to do it is free:
► Get the free playbook: https://capitalism.com/100K

Tara Bosch started SmartSweets in her kitchen at 21 with no capital, no experience and no connections in candy, and 4 years later she sold a majority stake for $360 million. I sat down with Tara more than once, so what you get here is the sequence rather than the headline: a giant market changed in one way, a few hundred customers who acted like they worked there, a premium price in a category that competes on price, inventory funded with debt instead of equity, and a hiring order that held as the company grew. It is the same pattern behind Dr. Squatch, Dollar Shave Club and Gruns, and it compresses the timeline more than anything else I know of.

I Gave Her a 90-Day Plan to Double Her Business02 Sep 202600:37:33

Our playbook to $100,000 a month is free, and it's where the 90-day plan in this podcast comes from:
► The $100K Playbook: https://capitalism.com/100K

Dr. Megan Jolley Milne is a pharmacist, and her company Nutranize does $20,000-$27,000 a month almost entirely off one YouTube channel. She's in a tiny space with a skeptical market and she can't run ads because of medical claims, so when she flew into our in-person mastermind I sat down with her and built a 90-day plan to double the business. I didn't give her a single new thing to do. I took things away. And you can run the same subtraction on yours.

Resources mentioned in the podcast:
► The $100K Playbook: https://capitalism.com/100K
► Bootcamp waitlist: https://capitalism.com/bootcamp

(0:00) A business that should be doing a million, stuck in the low six figures
(1:15) Everything runs on one YouTube channel, and she's stuck on what comes next
(2:14) What she sells: a supplement for the side effects of prednisone, $104.99 a month
(3:03) The numbers: $20,000-$27,000 a month, and what made May different
(4:01) What I caught at breakfast: the traffic goes everywhere
(4:35) The inventory: Amazon, a sales page, a checklist, a taper chart, a quiz
(5:16) Thousands of leads and zero buyers
(6:03) The queen bee activity, and why it decides what you work on
(7:08) Leakage, and why scattering a little energy waters nothing
(9:27) Her magnum opus, and the phone calls it produced
(11:01) Make the thing that already converts your only lead magnet
(12:04) One promise up front, everything else stacked behind it
(14:10) "That feels relieving. I just need to do one thing."
(14:33) A separate follow-up series for every lead magnet is exhausting
(15:59) The prescription: one opt-in, and commit to it
(16:55) The lead magnet you have beats the one that doesn't exist
(17:27) Put a discount in the P.S. of every email
(19:49) I don't consider content a call to action
(20:33) 4 offers at checkout, and the 1 upsell worth adding
(23:20) Why she doesn't have to touch ads in a regulated space
(24:01) Why 90 days and not 5 years
(25:48) The million-dollar move: out of a niche of all niches
(26:23) Nutrient depletion is the brand, prednisone is just the first drug
(28:05) A new drug is a new person, and a new funnel
(29:42) 80% of my job is telling people what not to do
(30:49) No permission to launch a 2nd product for 90 days
(31:45) Her last worry: what if they never watch the video
(33:01) The Facebook group with 5,000 members she forgot she had
(34:35) Now the email list and the group promote each other
(36:03) "I just got my money's worth"
(36:19) What I didn't do: I took things away

How Thorne Sold for $3.8B in 3 Years: Case Study26 Aug 202600:19:24

I help entrepreneurs build brands to seven figures and then position them for a multi-million dollar payday. The playbook we use to do it is free:
► Get the free playbook: https://capitalism.com/100K

Thorne is forty years old, and everything that made it worth $3.8 billion happened in the last three. It had gone public and lost more than half its value when a private equity group took it off the market, and Procter & Gamble has now agreed to buy it with the same products on the shelf. I break down the playbook L Catterton ran, why sales roughly doubled while the price went up more than five times, and the three things besides revenue that decide what a buyer pays you, whether you would rather buy a business like this one or build one worth buying.

Resources mentioned in the episode:
► The $100K Playbook: https://capitalism.com/100K

(0:00) The same company, the same products, and a $3.8 billion payday three years later
(1:00) The products sitting on my desk are all saturated markets, and that is the point
(2:00) The terms: Procter & Gamble, all cash, and why a deal like that closes
(3:00) The seller is the real story: L Catterton, from Kodiak Cakes to Nutrafol
(4:00) Buy the whole company, get it off the public exchange, run the playbook in private
(5:00) The new CEO went back to basics and decided who Thorne was actually for
(6:00) Direct-to-consumer acquisition, after years of selling only through physicians
(7:00) Auto-ship, and why keeping the customer was worth more than getting them
(8:00) They refused to discount the brand, and that is what protected the margins
(9:00) Plain old fish oil, sold to the person who wants the best fish oil
(10:00) Lesson one, follow the money: Nutrafol, Gruns, Onnit
(11:00) Thorne grew by doing less, and retention mattered more than acquisition
(12:00) The part that shocked me: sales doubled, the price went up more than 5X
(13:00) What actually moves a valuation: leadership, a growth story, and timing
(15:00) The two ways to compress forty years into three: buy a neglected brand, or run the playbook on your own
(17:00) Primal Kitchen sold to Heinz, and the big money made it better

The 3-Year Exit: How Create A Life-Changing Payday In (About) 36 Months22 Aug 202600:41:19

The next boot camp is this exact plan. We set your exit number together and build the plan to hit it, in about three hours, for <$100:
► Workshop waitlist: https://capitalism.com/bootcamp

Most people are told to work 30 years, save, and call that retirement. I think that is a bad plan, so this episode is the whole map to a life-changing exit in about three years: how to set your number, why I would build a high-margin subscription product to get there, and the math that shrinks the whole thing down to four or five subscriptions a day. I also get into the tax rule that can take your capital gains to zero, and the liquidation event you can have without ever selling the business.

Resources mentioned on the podcast:

► Work with me and my team: https://capitalism.com/join

(0:00) The whole plan for an exit that makes you financially free in three years
(1:00) I built a business in 2013 and sold it four years later in a $16M package
(2:00) Throw out the 30-year retirement playbook
(3:00) Your impossible goal does not have to be a billion dollars
(4:00) The clients who went from zero to $500K a month, and what slowed them down
(6:00) Step one, set a target that would actually change your life
(7:00) Sam Prentice's formula: the passive income you need, times 17
(9:00) Why product creation beats every other route to an exit right now
(11:00) Poor man's math: the profit that justifies a $4.25M price
(12:00) Gruns sold for $1.2B without the profit to justify it
(13:00) The three years: launch, acquire, then scale and prep the exit
(14:00) $1M in profit a year is $2,750 a day, or 110 sales
(15:00) Why subscription products change the math
(17:00) 3,300 people on auto-ship is four to five new subscriptions a day
(18:00) The gateway product, and doing this with one-time purchases
(19:00) The free GPT that builds your product for you
(21:00) Two paths: build an audience or build a funnel
(22:00) Content or ads to an opt-in, then follow up. Everything else is drama
(23:00) What the free route looks like day to day, and the hours in the DMs
(26:00) The paid route: fewer moving pieces, one big cost
(27:00) Why I tell you to start free even though it is slower
(29:00) The whole model in one paragraph
(30:00) What to do about the exit itself
(31:00) QSBS: hold five years and pay zero capital gains
(32:00) You need close to $1M in profit to attract a good buyer
(33:00) You can have a liquidation event without selling the business
(34:00) My deal was $16M at a 5X multiple, and we only got 60% upfront
(35:00) What I would do differently: take the cash and keep the business
(36:00) Why entrepreneurs get defensive at $1M in profit
(37:00) The target, the math, and the plan in one recap
(39:00) Two ways I can help, starting with the next boot camp

This Weird Niche Makes Them $7 Million/Year19 Aug 202600:44:32

My guests fly in from Spain and go home with one idea. You don't need the flight. I run a live workshop where I teach one idea you can put into your business over the next 30 to 90 days:
► Workshop waitlist: https://capitalism.com/bootcamp

Juan Ramón and Carlos found my podcast in 2020, ran the playbook, and it still took them three full years to make their first million dollars. Then they tripled in a single year, and when I asked what changed, they told me they did less: they cut 80% of their products. They sell a $1,000 car screen out of Spain at 40% margins, they do about $500K a month, and most of this conversation is about how much they had to take away to get there.

(1:29) Five years old, $7M in the last 12 months
(2:06) The night they crossed their first million
(2:46) They found the podcast in 2020, and the business that never hit $10K a month
(4:49) What they actually sell: pull the old radio, drop in a Tesla-style screen
(5:20) Why they chased a $1,000 product instead of a $10 one, and the margin on it
(6:52) "This has not been an overnight success." 7 years to 10,000 orders
(7:46) A year and a half losing money, then a year and a half at break even
(8:17) How they get customers without ever touching Amazon
(9:02) "I do not feel successful." What $7 million a year actually feels like
(10:40) Treating the whole thing as a game, and whether they think about an exit yet
(12:36) The 10 days they lost 30% of their revenue
(13:18) "Just pure anxiety." The fear of failing himself
(14:06) What broke: a Google account, a disconnected Meta pixel, both algorithms
(15:39) The two roles, and how they split the company between them
(16:42) "We are a service company that sells products"
(17:27) Rocket fuel: the one with the ideas and the one who keeps it from breaking

(21:41) What changed the year they tripled: they did less
(23:25) Why removing products is what unlocks growth under seven figures

(30:57) Learning by doing, and what a partner who has your back makes possible
(32:10) "The relationship comes first," agreed before they made a single sale
(34:00) The pressure of entrepreneurship that nobody outside it understands
(36:19) Why they fly in from Spain for a single idea
(39:15) Set the outcome, not the process, and let the team figure out how
(40:40) A million dollars a month, and what would have to be true to get there
(43:26) What actually took them from zero to $7M a year

Set Goals like Elon Musk | Ben Hardy12 Aug 202601:14:07

Our playbook to $100K a month is free, and it comes with an AI tool that builds a plan for you:
► The $100K Playbook: https://capitalism.com/100K

Dr. Benjamin Hardy is the co-author of the books, "10x Is Easier Than 2x" and "Who Not How" with Dan Sullivan. I read his new one, "The Science of Scaling," and then I couldn't sleep. Step one is to set a goal so big you don't believe you can hit it, and I got stuck there, so instead of interviewing Ben about his framework I asked him to run it on me live. He pulled my own goal three years forward and made me say out loud what would have to go, which is when it clicked: the goal is not a prediction, it's a tool for deciding what you cut.

► Bootcamp waitlist: https://capitalism.com/bootcamp
► The Science of Scaling by Dr. Benjamin Hardy

(0:00) Very talented entrepreneurs could be getting 100X the results they are
(0:38) Step one of the book: set an impossible goal

(6:27) Most people think scale means doing twice as many things
(8:03) High-rep, low-rep, and Joseph Nguyen's "no-rep" learning
(9:59) Five pathways that were all decent, and not one of them powerful
(11:09) I got stuck on chapter one with seven goals that all seemed related
(14:20) Using time as a tool: shorten the window, filter out the seven-figure decisions
(15:53) "How blunt do you want me to be?" Ben moves my 2030 goal to 2027
(16:53) The first thing that falls apart is a role we manage instead of hire well
(18:29) Acquire bigger brands, or install better operators
(19:20) The honest answer for why I never just changed the timeline
(20:44) Nobody is monitoring your goal, which is exactly what makes it a tool
(23:30) Your impossible goal does not have to be a billion dollars
(24:46) What happens after $100 million, and why a billion feels unclear
(26:05) My seven goals out loud, and the four I had already forgotten

He Walked Away From Millions... Then Built Truvani | Derek Halpern05 Aug 202601:28:18

Derek Halpern shut down the biggest business podcast in the space, walked away from millions of dollars in cashflow, and started a turmeric company with $30,000 split three ways.

Eight years later Truvani is in more than 14,000 retail stores, including 4,200 Walmarts, it shipped 450,000 units in a single month, and it has never raised a dollar of outside capital.

We break down the sampling strategy that built demand before the product ever hit a shelf, the one paragraph on why most good D2C brands die in retail, and how he decides whether something is worth winning.

Links mentioned in the video:

► The eight-step plan to a million-dollar business: https://capitalism.com/100K

Derek is running the same three-part system I mentor clients through on the way to their first $100,000 a month. The whole model is laid out in one video:

► How we take a business from zero to $100,000 a month: https://capitalism.com/model

(0:00) Why he shut down the biggest business podcast in the space

(1:56) "I was an accidental teacher": the real reason he quit

(3:52) Just under $1 million in year one, one course, one employee

(5:37) It wasn't a protein company. It was a turmeric company.

(7:15) August 2017: three people, three skill sets, one phone call

(8:00) The pre-sale that broke the plan: 5,000 bottles ordered, 35,000 needed

(9:09) What leaning on an influencer partner costs you later

(10:57) Turmeric to bone broth to protein, still not sure who they were

(13:00) Facebook banned them over hemp, so they reformulated in eight months

(14:05) The three parts of the seven-figure system, running inside Truvani

(15:25) Going into retail with zero retail experience

(16:35) A year and a half of not knowing what kind of company they were

(17:05) The one thing they did know: no weird ingredients

(18:00) Hiring a retail consultant and asking him the dumbest questions

(19:00) Expo West cancelled the day before the flight

(19:44) The zag: doubling down on retail while everyone else ran online

(20:45) The bottom-shelf photo that forced them to build a flavor line

(21:52) The clean-brand detour: deodorant, toothpaste, lip balm

(23:00) 100 doors to 2,000, and the 76-store chain that unlocked Sprouts

(23:21) One paragraph on why good D2C brands fail in retail

(24:47) Killing "more for more" and putting the whole ad budget into samples

(25:50) Why Truvani won in retail: a million samples before the shelf

(28:36) Selling out on purpose vs. selling out by accident

(30:45) Pent-up demand, and where to see the eight-step plan

(33:16) Proof of concept as the number one guiding principle

(33:46) 200 gifts to 50,000 gifts in a single year

(36:46) Why he would rather you buy on Amazon than Shopify

(37:54) Retail has the best price, and that is on purpose

(38:46) End caps, secondary placement, and earning shelf space

(41:01) $30,000 total, 12,000 doors, zero dollars raised

(42:57) Revolving credit lines vs. the fixed-term trap that killed brands

(44:48) Chess, pushups, and a dad who made him pay the bet

(47:00) Winning is eventual, and most people quit at the first failure

(50:55) How he decides whether something is worth winning

(52:03) Big opportunity, a better product, and numbers that work

(53:00) Why they killed the deodorant and the bone broth

(54:54) Free shaker cups on an end cap, because nobody said he could

(57:48) "We don't do content. We just buy ads." Does he still mean it?

(58:44) "I hate remarketing," and the 90% net-new rule

(59:52) People buy because they believe what you believe

(1:02:00) No gums, no flow agents, and a year of hand-filled bags

(1:04:10) The market caught up, and most people still don't care

(1:05:54) The delectable-treat Trojan horse: sell the brownie

(1:07:37) 40% of their buyers had never taken a protein before

(1:09:20) 4,200 Walmarts, and 450,000 units in one month

(1:11:35) What changes when private equity sees you in the Nielsen reports

(1:13:42) Hot Takes: discounts

(1:14:53) Hot Takes: Walmart

(1:16:44) Hot Takes: tariffs, pea protein, and black swan events

(1:20:18) Hot Takes: influencers

(1:21:16) Hot Takes: capitalism

(1:23:36) Does he miss the limelight?

(1:27:00) Cashflow vs. enterprise value, and why he walked away

The $25K/Month System That Doesn't Need Ads29 Jul 202600:25:23

This is step six of the eight-step process we use to build million-dollar businesses. The whole model is laid out in one video:
► How we take a business from zero to $100,000 a month: https://capitalism.com/model

We also run live workshops where we work with clients and followers on building this inside their business.
► Waiting list for our next live workshop: https://capitalism.com/bootcamp

One of my clients sells a stain remover stick and was stuck under $10,000 a month. About 90 days after they built the flywheel, they were flirting with $30,000 a month, and they got it about half right.

In this episode I walk through the flywheel, the 60 to 90 minute daily process we use to get free traffic, leads every day, and sales in the bank account without an ad budget. Gather and post proof, send that traffic to a lead capture, then reach out to the people who engage. I pull up that client's actual Instagram and sales screenshots, show you the three things I would fix, and explain why proof converts better than anything else you can post.

Links mentioned in this episode:

► Free resources for the road to your first million-dollar business: https://capitalism.com/100K

(0:00) Would it be worth it to add $25,000 a month over the next 90 days
(1:10) What this does not require: no ad budget, no viral posting, no influencers
(1:40) The flywheel, and why it is step six of our eight-step process
(2:00) Where this fits, and where to see the whole model
(2:40) Thanks Mom Co: stuck under $10,000 a month with a stain remover stick
(3:10) What the flywheel did for them: past $25,000, flirting with $30,000
(4:10) Rule one: we measure content by leads, not views
(5:20) Rule two: proof equals conversions, and what actually counts as proof
(7:00) Rule three: run the flywheel before you run ads
(8:00) Step one: 20 to 30 minutes a day gathering and posting proof
(9:40) Step two: send that traffic to a lead capture or a first-time customer discount
(10:40) Step three: manual outreach, the part almost everybody skips
(11:40) The exact message to send someone who saw your story
(12:20) Switch Supplements and Kill Switch: 75 views into a seven-figure business
(13:50) Do not add more steps, get better at the three you have
(15:20) Inside the Thanks Mom Co Instagram and link in bio
(16:40) The stain stick demos: putty and Chick-fil-A sauce as perfect proof
(17:50) Fix one: no call to action, so no way to measure leads
(19:00) Fix two: a dedicated first-time customer discount page beats a pop-up
(19:50) Fix three: sprinkle proof into the sales page and the Amazon listing
(20:30) Their sales screenshots: one piece of proof, one email, a $1,500 day
(21:50) Almost a 100-sale day, and why that is a million-dollar business

Want to launch a premium, high-margin consumable brand and work with us to bring it to market? Get on the waitlist for our next cohort:
► Capitalism.com Bootcamp: https://capitalism.com/bootcamp

I sat down with Djamel, the co-founder of Organifi, who grew a superfoods brand from $1 million to $100 million in about four years. We break down exactly how it happened: a premium, high-margin product, affiliates paid 75% commissions when the rest of the industry paid 5%, customer data poured into Facebook ads, and the team and systems that turned a scrappy launch into a nine-figure business. None of this was an accident. It was manufactured, and you get the whole playbook.

How to Build a Million-Dollar Business With a Tiny Audience15 Jul 202600:26:39

Get the model and the free AI tools that show you where your business needs attention to reach $100K a month: https://capitalism.com/100K

I have two clients who built million-dollar businesses without being famous and without living on their phones. One is a worship pastor selling golf gear to 900 Instagram followers. The other sells dog shampoo and posts a few times a month.

In this episode I break down the traffic triangle, the exact model we use to turn a tiny audience into a responsive group of buyers, along with the three rules that make it work: the rule of thirds, the seven-hour rule, and sending all your traffic to an email capture. It only takes 100 to 200 of the right people to make it real.

She Lost Her Job... Then Built a $2M Business08 Jul 202601:01:44

Want to build a seven-figure brand the way Elina did?

Get the free $100K/month playbook and a quick diagnostic that shows you exactly which step to focus on next: https://capitalism.com/100K

Elina got laid off from her tech job, read 12 Months to $1 Million, and decided to bet on herself before she had any proof it would work. Eighteen months later she'd built Dood Woof, an all-natural detangler brand for doodle owners, into a seven-figure business by following our eight-step framework almost exactly.

In this conversation we break down how she went from a $10,000 launch to 100 sales a day, why the community she built became her most valuable asset, and how she survived the day she thought she'd have to shut everything down.

The old rule was 100 sales a day across four products to build a million-dollar business. In this episode, Ryan breaks down a faster, lower-stress path, the compounding sales model, that gets you to seven figures with a single product and as few as five sales a day. We walk through the product criteria, the bundle-and-autoship offer structure, and the audience-then-ads sequence that turns one sale into recurring revenue.

Hard Decisions To Create A Simpler Life & Business26 Mar 202600:32:11

What 1-3 decisions could you make that would dramatically simplify your life?

I (Ryan) asked myself this question earlier this year, and it served as a "forcing function" for me to make hard decisions in my life and business. What would my business look like if it was simple? What could become possible if I had more time to think? What skills might I learn if I had more mental capacity?

In this episode, I share some of the decisions that I made - and am considering making - in order to free up more space, and how I plan to use that new capacity to serve at a deeper, more meaningful level.

When Everything Is Falling Apart (Life Is Like An ETF)13 Mar 202600:37:15

When life feels uncertain and everything is falling apart... this is what to do when you don't know what to do.

Life is like an ETF; there are good things and bad things in your life "portfolio." We don't notice our improvements, and we are freaked out by our setbacks. Still, things tend to go up over time. The trick is staying the game long enough to let compounding returns kick in.

When everything is falling apart, we prepare for the next opportunity... and the opportunity of a lifetime tends to come around at least once a year, as long as we are ready for them.

What's Working, What's Not, & The Next $10M Exit04 Mar 202600:31:56

In this episode, we break down what's happening across the portfolio as of March 2026, including the wins, setbacks, and a possible exit.

You'll hear the numbers behind Sheer Strength's brand pivot, what's driving a 40% jump in profits, and how Switch Supplements is becoming a multi-7-figure business.

Not everything is working, though. A few projects are on the struggle bus and are dragging down the overall portfolio.

However, there's also a $10M exit brewing inside the Capitalism Fund, a $1M raise coming for one of the portfolio's fastest-growing brands... and some changes coming to Capitalism.com.

How To Scale Your Business 100x in 3 Years w/ Dr. Benjamin Hardy17 Sep 202501:19:57

What if your goals are too small—and your timelines too long?

In this deep-dive conversation, Dr. Benjamin Hardy (author of "The Science of Scaling" and "10x Is Easier Than 2x") challenges Ryan to rethink what it really means to scale. Together they unpack why the right goal is less about certainty and more about clarity, how collapsing time transforms strategy, and why raising the floor often means cutting what feels "good enough."

They explore:

  • Why a billion-dollar goal can be more useful than a hundred-million-dollar one
  • How to filter distractions and find the few "who's" that change everything
  • The psychology behind hidden commitments and unconscious goals
  • Lessons from Tom Brady, Elon Musk, and entrepreneurs who actually scale
  • Why focus and courage matter more than confidence at the start

Whether you're building your first business or running a portfolio of brands, this episode will challenge you to strip away distractions, clarify your true north star, and use time as the most powerful tool for scaling.
