Campervan Electrics Explained - How Much Power Do You Really Need?19 oct. 202600:21:15

How much power do you really need in a campervan? And do you actually need solar panels, lithium batteries or an inverter?

Campervan electrics can quickly become confusing, particularly if you're buying your first van. With so many options available, it's easy to spend money on equipment you don't really need.

In this episode of Campervan Considered, we explore the practical side of campervan power and electrics, without getting too technical.

We'll cover:

  • 🔋 Leisure batteries – AGM versus lithium.
  • ⚡ How much electricity you'll actually use.
  • ☀️ Solar panels – are they worth the investment?
  • 🔌 Electric hook-up versus off-grid camping.
  • 🔄 Inverters – when you need one and when you don't.
  • 🚐 What to check when buying a campervan.
  • 💬 My own experiences with portable power and solar charging.

Whether you're planning occasional campsite weekends or longer adventures off-grid, this episode will help you understand what electrical setup might work best for you.

The aim isn't to have the most powerful system. It's to have the right system for how you want to travel.

Pop-Top vs High Roof vs Standard Roof: Which Campervan Is Right for You?13 oct. 202600:17:03

Pop-top, permanent high roof or standard roof—which would suit your campervan life?

In this episode of Campervan Considered, we explore how your roof choice affects living space, sleeping comfort and everyday practicality.

We discuss:
• The differences between the three roof types
• Why the height of the people sleeping upstairs matters when choosing a pop-top
• Checking bed length, headroom and access before you buy
• Why sleeping in a fabric-sided pop-top during colder weather can feel more like sleeping in a tent
• Parking, setting up, maintenance and buying checks

Whether you’re planning weekend escapes, family holidays or longer tours, request the Campervan Considered checklist (https://campervanconsidered.co.uk) to work through your requirements and keep track of what to check when viewing a van. Include who will sleep in the roof, how much space they need and the weather you plan to travel in.

Campervan Layouts & Beds: Which One Is Right for You?05 oct. 202600:14:51

Choosing the right campervan layout is about much more than deciding where you're going to sleep.

In this episode of Campervan Considered, I look at the questions worth asking before choosing your layout:

✓ How many people need to travel, sit and sleep in the van?
✓ Fixed bed or rock-and-roll bed?
✓ How much living space do you really need?
✓ What happens when the bed is made up?
✓ Can you still reach the fridge and storage?
✓ And what happens when everyone is stuck inside on a wet afternoon?

I also talk about our own experience of living with a rock-and-roll bed and why choosing a layout is really about deciding which compromises work best for you.

The aim isn't to tell you which campervan to buy. It's to help you ask better questions before you buy one.

SWB vs LWB Campervan – Which Size Is Right for You?28 sept. 202600:17:40

Choosing between a short wheelbase (SWB) and long wheelbase (LWB) campervan can seem like a simple decision — but those extra centimetres can make a big difference.

In this episode of Campervan Considered, I talk through the things I think you should consider before deciding which size is right for you.

We look at:

🚐 SWB vs LWB – what’s the real difference?
🅿️ Parking and using your campervan as an everyday vehicle
🏠 Driveway and storage considerations
🛏️ The difference extra space can make inside
🌧️ What happens when the weather keeps you inside
👨‍👩‍👧 How many people you need to accommodate
🧳 Storage, travelling and longer trips
🚐 Why I chose a SWB campervan — and whether I’d choose one again

For me, the key question is:

Where are you prepared to compromise — inside the campervan or outside it?

Campervan Considered is about helping you think through the decisions involved in choosing and owning a campervan — based on real-world experience rather than simply telling you what to buy.

Better decisions. Brighter adventures.
