| Fighting To Find a Diagnosis For My Daughter - Pam Hutchings | 11 Mar 2023 | 01:10:06 | |

Then seemingly over night Taryn became suicidal, hearing voices and seeing things that weren't there. Over the last 7 months, Taryn has spent most of it in the hospital. Pam had to leave her job to become a care giver for Taryn all while trying to find medications and treatments that could have any affect on Taryn's health. | Sex and Mental Health - Robin Hilton | 04 Feb 2023 | 01:04:45
How does sex affect our mental health? How does mental health affect sex? Those are such big questions that Robin Hilton, a Pleasure Expert & Feminist Sex Coach/Educator and this weeks guest, only begins to scratch the surface to answer them. There was so much to talk about that I decided to make it a two part episode with the second part coming out sometime in the future. Robin's candid, sweet, empathetic, informative and non judgemental ways make her the perfect person to talk about this subject. At one point in this episode I open up and share something extremely personal so i have to admit i'm a bit nervous releasing this episode. EP 26 HOT TAKES on Involuntary Drug Treatment Policy & The Role of Vitamin D in Your Mental Health Nick and Todd are back with more mental health news, ready to dissect the headlines and spark your critical thinking. Nick brings research reporting linking depression and anxiety to a vitamin D deficiency. Ongoing research continues to examine the link between vitamin D and mental health due to the symptom overlap between vitamin D deficiency deficiency and those of depression, anxiety, and cognitive decline. Nick and Todd discuss the research and the importance of integrated approaches to mental health treatments. Todd brings to light a new Canadian policy for involuntary drug treatments. Alberta, Canada, has introduced new legislation that would be the first involuntary treatment law in Canada to target addiction for adults. Todd and Nick debate whether family members, doctors, or police can force drug users into a treatment plan. Prepare for passionate arguments, diverse perspectives, and a deeper understanding of the complex world of mental health. | From Substance Abuse and Violence To Giving Back - Steven Mark | 03 Dec 2022 | 00:55:35
I met Steven in Pine Lodge, an addiction treatment centre, in 2016. I instantly liked him. In fact everyone liked him. He behaved and even looked like members of my own family. When I arrived to Pine Lodge I was riddled with anxiety but Steven's feeling of familiarity he gave me, his humour and laugh help put me at ease. Everyone wanted to sit at his table at mealtime. When he left treatment two weeks into my 28 days, I like to think I filled that vacant position he left behind! Before meeting Steven, however, his life was filled with substance abuse, violence and personal neglect that left him homeless and fighting to stay alive. Today he is an addictions counsellor, working on a masters of social work and an author. His new book Punx Not Dead is a fascinating collection of stories taken over 22 years about how Steve fell into the abyss of the streets. | Updates With Former Guests - Daniel, James and Megan | 22 Jun 2024 | 00:51:17
What are some of your most memorable guests from Bunny Hugs and Mental Health? In this episode I catch up with former guests! Megan Burstyk was my guest on the fifth ever episode way back on April 24, 2021. Her episode was titled ‘I Lost Multiple Family Members To Suicide’. Megan’s father, brother and two sisters all took their own lives and her mother passed only a few months before we recorded. Daniel Norwood’s episode titled ‘I’ve Never Told My Story, Now I Hope To Help Others By Telling It’ aired on June 10th, 2023. In that episode Daniel tells his story of growing up on the street, fighting in Iraq, suffering from PTSD and addiction. He ends up finding redemption only to lose it all when he accidentally shot and killed his girlfriend while drunk. It took place in a car in front of Daniel’s daughter and his girlfriend’s son. James B. Jones starred in the Netflix reality series Love on the Spectrum, a show where folks on the autism spectrum try to find love. About a month after this episode aired (November 18th, 2023) the second season of Love on the Spectrum aired on Netflix, rocketing James’ popularity. On April 2, 2024, Netflix announced they will be shooting season 3 of the series. Please consider buying me a coffee here! Check out the podcast merch store here! | PMDD Took My Daughter's Life - Donna | 08 Oct 2022 | 00:58:28
Bachelor fans may recognize Donna Micheletti from an episode of Dr. Phil or from season 14 of The Bachelor. Donna's daughter Gia Allemand, who was a popular cast member that season, took her life in 2013. Gia struggled with suicidal thoughts and attempts in her teen years and was eventually diagnosed with PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder), a disorder that affect roughly 4 million women in the United States. Many women with PMDD are wrongfully diagnosed with bipolar because few doctors know much about PMDD. Sufferers of PMDD are more than 3 times more likely to attempt suicide than the average woman. Donna is on a mission to educate the world about PMDD and to let those suffering to know that taking your life is not the answer. EP 25: HOT TAKES on Why Young People Don’t Want to Talk to Therapists and Reimagining Masculinity for Men’s Mental Health Month Nick and Todd are back with more mental health news, ready to dissect the headlines and spark your critical thinking. Nick shares a 2023 focus group outcome exploring why young people don’t want to talk to therapists. A 2023 report by Mental Health in America found that 60 percent of youth with major depression are not seeking help from mental health professionals for several reasons, one of which is that youth don’t trust them. Nick and Todd share their thoughts and offer some insights to anyone struggling with opening up to a counselor. Todd brings a story about reimagining masculinity as part of Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month. Men are over-represented in most mental health statistics including being unhoused, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, and suicide. Todd and Nick discuss masculinity and the role it plays in men’s mental health. | Growing Up Silenced; Growing Up Around Mental Illness - Daniella Ponticelli | 23 Jul 2022 | 00:55:44
This is an episode I've been wanting to do for a long time! We've heard first hand experiences from people suffering from mental illness, professionals, parents and siblings but this episode is from the perspective of a child. This week I speak with Daniella. Daniella is a journalist that grew up in a house with mental illness. Not only did she live with an ill parent but her family also immigrated to Canada when she was a child. She explains how these challenges affected her own mental health growing up and how they still affect her today. Daniella's story is relatable, riveting and well told, so much so that I decided to make it a two part episode. Stay tuned next week for the conclusion of Growing Up Silenced; Growing Up Around Mental Illness. Topics include trauma, borderline personality disorder, addiction, anger, PTSD, generational trauma FOLLOW BUNNY HUGS AND MENTAL HEALTH
